Bar Alegria - Review - Sant Antoni - Barcelona - The Infatuation

"Before parents started getting health-conscious about what their kids snack on after school, Catalan kids used to get served a broken-up bar of chocolate stuffed between two slices of bread, soaked in olive oil and salt. Since then, nutritional advice has evolved, as have the snacking habits of Catalan families. While modern-day schoolkids chow down on nut bars, rice crackers, and yogurt bites, the chocolate sandwich has been relegated to a dessert. Sant Antoni’s always-crowded, good-energy tapas bar Bar Alegria has perfected the recipe, placing dollops of rich chocolate ganache between crunchy mini toasts and drizzling them with premium extra-virgin olive oil and flakes of sea salt. Order it after you’ve gorged yourself on the Cantabrian anchovy Gilda, the truffled omelet, and the Iberian ham and cheese bikini (also truffled up). RESERVE A TABLE" - Isabelle Kliger

I’ve been here a a few times and took my wife this evening. She loved it as I do. The menu if fantastic, we had the tortilla trufada, the calamarcitos and ensaladilla rusa and all were amazing. I’ve been at quiet times and busy times my suggestion is if you are going in the evenings especially Friday and Sunday to get there early. The decor is old style Spanish chic and has a charm that’s pleasing on the eye. Great and attentive staff who also took time to play with my baby son. I love this place and the food. The menu is an eclectic mix of traditional dishes with a twist that you’ll like!

Had a really lovely dinner at Bar Alegria. Make sure to make a reservation because they are almost always packed! The atmosphere is very quaint. We enjoyed sitting upstairs and being perched over everyone. From what I have heard, the menu is constantly changing so there is no guarantee you will find the same items each time you go in. This being said, everything we ordered was delicious so I don’t think you can go wrong! Lucas was our server, and he did an excellent job of taking care of us. Prices might be considered on the pricier end. (We thought they were reasonable, but we are from NYC so take this with a grain of salt.)

It might look like any other bar in the area (alrhough you notice a cool oldish style if you look carefully at it), but it isn't at all. Bar Alegria has a century behind delivering excellent small dishes. They work through ever changing menu and you get what is in fornthe day on the whiteboard. Obviously you can always trust there will be a bunch of classics like their truffle omelette, their ham&cheese sandwich (very special as well) or their russian salada. No matter the dish you will choose I'm positive it will be good. They are quite small though, so consider at least 2 per person if you want to get a full meal. This means also that the bill will be higher that the average in the area. Also worth to share some of their awesome desserts: their cheesecake and their mascarpone and pistachio are mind-blowing! Service good enough. The location is honestly terrible: Gran Via is one of the traffic busiest streets in Barcelona, so terrace is a choice of you are the one facing the restaurant :-) Illustration: bikini (ham&cheese sandwitch) for 11€ Labels: 2eat, $$$$, #metiterranean, #tapas, #terrace

A magical, authentic and traditional restaurant. The character and warmth of this place is charming. The passion coming from the chefs and the team was infectious. And was reflected in the food served. Fresh, ingredients bang in season and delicious. The tomato and basil salad was beautiful. My partner and I will be back when we are next in Barcelona. Gracias Bar Alegria - truly special spot.

We had a wonderful evening at Bar Alegria last Saturday! Santiago, our waiter, was truly outstanding, we let him take charge of ordering all our food and every dish he recommended was spot on. His friendly and attentive service made us feel so welcome and really elevated our experience. The atmosphere was lively, the food was delicious, and thanks to Santiago, it was a night to remember. Highly recommend!

Very nice and warm atmosphere, the staff was very polite and helpful - since I am from Greece and had no idea about what to choose to eat and drink Santiago (a staff member) chose for me and I'm thankful!

The food was incredible! we just kept on ordering more and it was great. The service was good and they were attentive. We sat outside and it was very comfy, with a lovely atmosphere. Cool music as well. Do recommend to make a reservation. It gets packed easily

My wife and I came here with some local friends that eat and drink here very often. We LOVED it! We sat outside and just ate and ate and ate and drank more! Everything was outstanding including the service and comfortable atmosphere. Where to start...the jamon Iberico, ensalada ruso, berenjena, and "El bikini de mi infancia" were all delicious. We had more dishes but trust, everything is awesome. Oh, and even though we are not typically dessert people, we ate every last bite of the flan and "Cremoso de chocolate con pan, aceite y sal". Yummy! We'll definitely return soon. Go!

Yelp
Wonderful place and we'll be back next time in Barcelona. We sat at the bar and ordered about 8 different tapas along with a couple of pitchers of sangria. Everything was delicious and the ambience was very cool. We had good service even though one of the waiters try to take the big wood tray away with food still on it :) I pulled it back and showed him the food that was still on the tray. Great time and great food!

Yelp
Was recommended to us by a friend who used to live here. We came here for dinner after watching FC Barcelona play last week and had amazing tapas!! Tried some local Cava which was great!

Yelp
Came here to have a quick cafe with Robert M., Sharon E. and my Tio Frank. It was about to rain and we were not done talking after our lunch at Rekons. But that's another review I have to write. Staff friendly and cafe con leche was delish as always in Spain. Where can you get a bad cafe? No where in Spain!!! They have TV and casino you can play. You can sit outside. It's pretty big. They also have tapas, a bar and cafe. I'd come back and drink a few!!!

Yelp
We came here for breakfast. We had: One fried egg, three strips of bacon, fries and a coffee for me. One fried egg, three strips of bacon, fries and an orange juice for my girlfriend. We ended up paying €14,80, which is way too much for what we got there. The eggs were greased with olive oil, the fries were soggy and the bacon wasn't baked very well. The fries were served on one plate (amount: equivalent to a small fries at McDonald's), even though in the end we paid for two portions. The guy that helped us wasn't very friendly, and was staring at us a lot from behind the bar. Pretty annoying. The only good thing in this bar is the coffee. If you're a tourist, skip this place. The food won't do you any good and you'll end up having breakfast somewhere else, but not before you overpaid for the food that you just had.
