Black Entrepreneurs Are Leading New Orleans’s Sober Bar Movement | Eater New Orleans

"I learned that Rhadell Green introduced the city to its first sober bar, Sober Bar Babe, in 2018, operating out of a purple, yellow, and blue tiny house on a trailer that resembles a New Orleans shotgun home. She offers a menu of non-alcoholic drinks, sno-balls, and locally-made snacks including pralines, often chatting with customers and sharing the pre-colonial history of New Orleans while discussing Black and gay issues—part of the reason she positioned herself as a sort of gatekeeper for Armstrong Park after moving to N. Rampart Street. Green began under the Claiborne Avenue bridge and spent time on the Lafitte Greenway before settling in front of the Louis Armstrong arch at Congo Square; she says she has faced verbal attacks, discrimination, and pressure to sell alcohol but remains committed to providing hydration and a community vibe for tourists and local events." - Clair Lorell
