Whimsical Bar Bambi Will Bring Technique-Driven Cocktails to West Town | Eater Chicago

"A new cocktail bar from veteran bartender Katie Renshaw is headed to West Town, where Bar Bambi at 1703 W. Chicago Avenue will reimagine classic cocktails with molecular techniques — fermentation, clarification, and forced carbonation — turning a martini into a sparkling highball and an old fashioned into a clarified whiskey sour, alongside spirit-free drinks, natural wines, Champagne, and bar snacks like wings and burgers. Designed to feel ethereal and dreamlike with playful, whimsical elements grounded by industrial touches, the space features a mirrored back bar with neon accents, floor-to-ceiling front windows, and an adjustable electric light installation that shifts with the hour and mood. Renshaw, a 2019 U.S. World Class Bartender of the Year with stints at Moneygun, Billy Sunday, GreenRiver, and the Aviary, says the lounge balances surreal, otherworldly details with comfort to feel both magical and distinctly Chicago, and it’s slated to open in late 2025 or early 2026." - Jeffy Mai

Bar Bambi – A Memorable Saturday Night Experience We visited Bar Bambi on a bustling Saturday night and were absolutely impressed by the experience. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was vibrant yet intimate – perfect for a weekend night out with mates. The food was a definite highlight. We enjoyed a delicious spread including the Spanner Crab Linguine, Chicken Main, Calamari, and Pork Sausage Pasta – each dish was beautifully presented, flavorful, and sumptuous. The kitchen delivered on quality and taste. To accompany our meal, we selected a stunning bottle of Nebbiolo, along with a few well-crafted cocktails – all of which added to the indulgence of the evening. A special mention goes to our waitress, Tilly, who provided warm, attentive, and professional service throughout the night. She helped elevate the experience with her friendly demeanor. Bar Bambi is a fantastic spot for a stylish night out, whether you're dining, drinking, dancing or just soaking up the ambiance. Highly recommend!

We came round for date on a Friday and took the set menu, all dishes were delicious, authentic flavours and generous portions. The best part of the night was the live band, awesome singer Joey that brought the vibe to the night. The atmosphere was vibrant, people were dancing and cocktails flowing. A really fun night that is recommended for anyone looking for a classy spot.

The first time my friends and I went here, two of our party had our drinks forgotten. When they finally got it to us we were informed we only had a short time left in our seating left to finish it. We asked if we could move to the bar instead as we did not want to rush down our cocktails and wanted to enjoy it, especially as it wasn't our fault it was forgotten. They said we couldn't and offered no alternatives, which is pretty poor customer service. The food was fine, but nothing special for higher priced Italian food. You are paying for the atmosphere. The second time we went was a fortnight ago, and the bar area was crowded. I was pushed by the waitress as she was making her way through to deliver drinks/food. I thought it was a one off but then later on throughout the night my friends mentioned it was happening to them too. That's incredibly rude. An "excuse me" would go a long way. It's absolutely not the first time I've been on a busy bar or club, and other places manage to find staff who don't just push people out of the way like cattle. I'm 110% done with the service here.

I went to Bar Bambi with no expectations, but the fit-out alone made it worth the visit! The interior is absolutely phenomenal – from the stunning chandelier, which felt almost magical, to the meticulous attention to detail in all the fittings. Every element of the space blew me away. The atmosphere truly sets the tone for a special evening that exceeded my expectations. I had read mixed reviews and honestly anticipated being disappointed, but I was pleasantly surprised. The security guards were extremely friendly, which left me confused as to why some people found them rude. From our experience, they were nothing but welcoming. The staff, in general, were vibrant, friendly, and very attentive, aside from one blonde hostess who was quite standoffish and didn’t smile, which was a bit of a letdown. But maybe she was just having a bad night? We were seated at the bar, which was a bit awkward for our group of four, as one of us had to sit out a little so we could talk comfortably. That said, I acknowledge it’s not exactly a restaurant but more of a bar-meets-club with food. We had cocktails and a set menu. The food was pretty good overall. The lobster rolls were delicious, the arancini balls were tasty, the vodka pasta a crowd favourite and the minute steak was excellent. The portions are huge which was great for my friends who are big eaters! We came around 7:30 PM, which was a great time to arrive, as it was lively but not too crowded. By 9.30PM, when we were leaving, it started getting busier, with people lining up to order at the bar where we were seated so a good time for us to move! In the end, Bar Bambi is a great spot for a fun night out with excellent music and solid food. But what really steals the show is the incredible interior design. I would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a night out with a stylish, almost magical atmosphere.

We were lucky & had good Service from all staff. That’s the only reason for 2 stars. Staff were polite & professional The Venue charges you before you even arrive, presumably to cover food costs Prior reviews about obscenely loud music are accurate. Food is the most salty I’ve ever had. I agree with a prior review of sodium poisoning. Lobster rolls too salty. Vodka pasta inedible & kids meals taste better. Crab linguine had barely any crab but so much tomatoes we had to double check we didn’t order vegetarian pasta. Steak for 48 was the cheapest cut of meat ever. All too salty. Dessert unavailable & patrons rushed out. I should also mention that the tables are arranged so closely together at the bar area that they are like 3cm apart. Many customers complained about this to no avail. Finally the restrooms. I appreciate this is a hip bar. But If you’re going to present yourself as an upmarket ritzy establishment then please have facilities to match, instead of filthy dirty brothel like bathrooms.

A very chaotic experience. We had to go on a set menu even for 5 people. Everything is served sharing style, was pleasantly surprised with the Spicy Vodka Pasta - one of the best i've had so far! Our dinner conveniently finished as the venue turned into a raging night club. I was very confused at the beginning but I loved every moment of it. Only downside is that it gets super packed and almost impossible to walk anywhere and order any drinks at the bar.

Bar Bambi is something truly special that has hit ACDC Lane. From the creative minds behind Eve Bar, Nick and Daniel Russian have created a gem that seamlessly combines fantastic food, dynamic entertainment, and a European-inspired lounge atmosphere. I’ve been visiting since it opened, but last night was my first time dining, and it certainly won’t be the last. We opted for a variety of shared plates, and every dish was tasty and perfectly prepared. The lamb cutlets were tender and flavourful, and the vodka pasta was a real standout—rich, creamy, and just the right amount of indulgence. With live music that changes frequently, whether it’s a piano serenade or a DJ spinning tunes, Bar Bambi keeps you coming back for the ever-changing vibe. It’s a place that caters to a mature crowd (millennials and up), and with their Negroni and Spritz list, you’re in for an all-around great night. Comfortable booths, accommodating both bookings and walk-ins, make it a versatile choice for any night out. Highly recommend for a memorable evening in Melbourne!
