Like most people, this place caught my eye for the their cheap 3$ beers.
Ther website describes itself as offering "American inspired comfort food" although I was disappointed with how limited their menu now is. After checking reviews and previous posts on their Facebook page, I see they used to offer more burger options and even tacos but these have been removed.
We came here on a Friday evening around 6pm, it was already full but we managed to find a table and spent the next couple hours enjoying ourselves for the most part. The atmosphere is hip, the banquet seats were comfy and everything we ordered tasted great. We tried their pogo mac and cheese which is deep fried mac and cheese on a stick, topped with green onions, bacon and sour cream, served with fries. This was decadent and very fitting for "bar food". We also got fried chicken, falafels and poutine which were equally delicious. The food is very salty so you want to drink more.
The prices are a little steep for how small their portions are and I also realised that the 3$ beers are not the best deal in town, if you want a full pint, you'll need two, so the price ends up being similar to other bars. This is however a great way to sample the variety without breaking the bank.
The biggest problem we had was with slow service. Now I haven't been to a bar in a while and understand that perhaps they are not trying to turn tables as quickly as servers would in a regular restaurant, however this place was severely understaffed. Le Blind Pig can seat 80 people and there was only one server + the barman for the entire evening. We waited a long time to get our order taken and even longer if we just asked for a glass of water.
Despite the slow service, I really like the vibe and the food, this bar is a great addition to the neighborhood. I would give it another try since it was overall fun.
Also, cool detail - the bathroom has a commununal sink for men and women, comprised of many little shower heads to mimic rainfall. Very NEAT.
