Historic Beaubien Street Bar Chez Roger Reopens After All | Eater Montreal

"Reopened last week after announcing a permanent closure in mid-April, I found the 80-year-old Rosemont institution now owned by Loïc Gauthier and his partner Maxime Lalonde, who purchased it from Normand Guérin (Guérin had run the place for the last 20 years). Guérin blamed the closure on a lease dispute with the building’s owner, but Gauthier and Lalonde were able to reach a compromise despite restrictions tied to the residential units above the space. Manager Lotfi Belgherbi, who has been running the bar since it reopened, told me the look has been refreshed with a lot more greenery and the drinks menu updated so that all wines are privately imported and some are natural, changes intended to appeal to a younger crowd. The bar will keep its identity distinct from the neighbouring bistro but the hope is that locals will increasingly treat them as a single destination — apéro at one side, dinner at the other, then back for a digestif — and with Gauthier at the helm of both places there should be more intentional coordination. The reopening was popular but constrained by public-health measures (capacity limited to 50% of licensed capacity, seated clientele only, and a 1 a.m. closing time)." - Valerie Silva

Great local bar for a night out with girlfriend and/or friends. At least for the beginning of the night if you're planning a party. Haven't been there late Friday or Saturday night so don't know that vibe yet. Friendly staff, good food. Recommended.

Nice bar where you can have all kind of drinks. Beers from micro breweries. Very good ambiance. They serve food also. I definitly recommand.

The mousse de foie de poulet with pistachios on fire toasted baguette was awesome. It was a great appetizer to the exquisite braised Lamb cooked with green olives, capers, and pear onions. Chez Roger is one of my favorite bistros in Montreal.

Love the vibes and the drinks. We went on Friday and it was pretty busy. Shoutout to the waitress that was alone taking care of the terrace 💙

Loved the calamars, the pâté de foie volaille, the beet salad with fromage de chèvre which was ordered for a party of 6 as entrés. My steak was delicious but I did not like the caesar salad. It is a whole piece of lettuce with sprinkling of sauce and capers on top of it....you seem to have to cut and mix it yourself. I did not eat it...too much effort!

Waitress took 15 minutes to advise that kitchen is closed. She was more busy talking than attending to our table while the place was empty. Disappointed and would not go back.
