5 new bars and restaurants to try on your next trip to Sydney - SilverKris

"A convivial Surry Hills wine bar located a stone’s throw from the CBD that celebrates natural, low-intervention bottles drawn from the co-owners’ extensive personal collections. Run by longtime collaborators who cut their teeth at celebrated restaurants, the kitchen turns out ever-changing small plates that pair beautifully with rare and affordable wines — think light-as-air cod roe with potato chips, barbecued beef tongue with salsa verde, or pappardelle in a rich lamb ragu. The atmosphere is designed to feel like a great spot you’d go to with mates: relaxed, wine-forward and focused on drinkability and seasonal, ingredient-led cooking." - Pilar Mitchell

Thanks guys, I had a great time last night. Staff were entertaining and lovely. The food was flavour driven and with a good variety of both texture and size - everything is quite savoury, which is good for a wine bar. Wines on the other hand were limited in choice and all served in tasting glasses - which is practical for the venue but doesn’t do any favours to the wine you’ll drink. The Amaro Creme Caramel - I can’t see them taking that off the menu. Just perfect. 👌🏼 Worth a visit for the atmosphere alone - an exercise in carefully controlled chaos.

Amazing little wine bar in egalitarian Surry Hills. There’s a real buzz going on here, excellent staff with wine knowledge way above their pay grade. Take their advice, please. Even the layout is uber cool; cozy inside, footpath, bar or alfresco as seamless as the bar is to the kitchen. And the food, certainly not the bridesmaid, no sir, its married and consummated… but again, ask the staff to match a wine unless you like to pretend. Loved the 80’s 90’s covers as well. Awesome 🙏

This place was a really cool vibe, our waitress was very friendly and informative about the menu and gave her recommendations. Drink list was nice I ended up getting the yuzu spritz. Went a bit overboard with the food but it was all so good

Bar Copains gets 5 stars from me. The service, the food, the venue and ambience all outstanding. We had a lovely waiter who provided some great suggestions and entertained us throughout the night. The food was perfect in every way. Decent sized portions, gorgeous flavours and obviously some quality produce. A very sexy and intimate space indoor, perfect for date night. We had a great experience and would definitely return.

I’ve been many times and it never disappoints - the food is always excellent no matter what I order, the wine menu is perfectly sized, and the cute interior is cozy and intimate. Highly recommend the comte cheese tart, the whiting sandwich and the amaro creme caramel but honestly you can’t go wrong no matter what you pick!

Bar Copains in Surry Hills is a charming little restaurant with a moody, intimate atmosphere. The food and drinks were solid, but unfortunately, the service left a bit to be desired. The man at the door was quite rude, and once seated, the service lacked attention — it took quite a while before we were even offered water. While the staff inside were friendly, the overall service felt slow, especially considering it wasn’t a busy night. Despite the underwhelming service, I’d still be willing to give Bar Copains another try. A little more focus on warmth and attentiveness, especially on arrival, could really elevate the experience. All in all, it was still a decent night.

We loved the food here. Proteins were all cooked well and were tender. The staff were very welcoming. We arrived at 5:30pm on a weekend without a booking and the wait wasn't too long. It was a tight squeeze for a table of 4.

As a restaurateur and chef I have high standards. The 5 start review is rare for me but I have to say. I had every chef mate tell me this was the spot and it delivered. This joint is incredible. Vibe on point. Staff on point. Food unbelievably good. Small menu that packs heaps of flavour. Non alcoholic bev list could do with a bit of love. Much love team. Keep it up.
