Tecate, Mexico’s Best Restaurants and Bars: 24-Hour Travel Guide | Eater San Diego

"I dropped into Bar Diana, founded in 1957 by Don Raul Mateus and now run by his grandson Alex Mateus; it’s Tecate’s oldest cantina and a city landmark that welcomes everyone, where I cooled off with a shot of well tequila and a can of Tecate rojo (or could have had a michelada)." - Bill Esparza

Google
A dimly lit bar with perhaps the richest history of any in Baja - little has changed about the establishment since its inception (apart from the addition of a women's bathroom fairly recently). Cheap drinks and attentive intimate service, a great place to talk to strangers and sip cerveca. You have not experienced Tecate if you have not visited La Diana.

Except for the cockroaches that kept crawling across our table I had a great time with friends. The margaritas were super! But after we saw those bugs we left.

T e c a t e might the biggest scam and letdown of the concept of amazing magical towns, so called in Mexico as "Pueblos Mágicos", as there's hardly anything to see with non existing history apart the Tecate-beer factory making it world-renowned. H o w e v e r this bar itself saves a lot of being just an authentic old school basic but solid sound steadfast bar! Have your necessary Tecate-beer or two here in the small pub while socialising with the locals! Town-saving four stars it is * * * *

Attentive wait staff, decent selection of spirits and beer, true dive bar with a good mix of people, cheap prices on drinks, and good mix of music.

Yelp
Do you know what a neighborhood bar looks like in the United States? Do you know what a dive Bar looks like in your neighborhood? Well, you haven't seen a real one until you visited Bar Diana in Tecate, go there!!! You won't be disappointed whether it's the drinks, the snacks, the atmosphere, the uniqueness. You think it might be closed because the gate gives you that feeling. Just push it open. Go in. Have a drink or 2 or 10 and if you had 10 make sure you have a designated driver or get an Uber. Have fun. Be safe

Yelp
Oldest dive bar in Tecate. It's right in front of the Centro. There's a very old iron gate/door to get in - which might look closed at first glance, but it's not. Make sure to go outside to the back patio and see the original fountain! If you like dive bars, this is the place for you. You can get by with minimal Spanish as well. Some locals in there do speak English as well.

Yelp
It was Mexican Independence day when we came to this adorable sleepy town called Tecate. Mister wanted to hit up a restaurant he found on facebook and we both wanted to see the "Nino of the linea" art piece by the French Artist, JR. But before we left this gorgeous town, Mister and his very trippy friend wanted to get a beer, the taxi man suggested a couple of them, Diana being one of them. He warned us that the Vatos that go there like to fight. Oh great, I'm already a little freaked out Mister's trippy friend was gonna act up. We walked in and immediately the trippy friend started dancing all crazy, mind you it's broad day light and a national holiday. Mister calmed him down and they enjoyed a couple of beers & shots of tequila. The people there seemed pretty cool but there was one guy or should I say boy because he looked about 16 years old, that was acting extra thirsty. At one point he followed the Mister into the restroom which I'm just waiting and watching the door intensely, and sure enough Mister comes back looking all shook and red-faced. I'm sure he was about to get hit up for some services this guy/kid might be offering. So yeah, made me like this place even more!! Yass Kahlessi, Yass!

Yelp
A nice friendly, locals' bar. Everyone knows each other, not full of loud, ugly, obnoxious Americanos.

Yelp
This is the oldest bar in town. Full of history. Kind of the chamber of commerce. Good place to quench your thirst and get the Inside scoop of what's good In town.
