"Once a bustling downtown spot on Metcalfe Street, I was disappointed to learn Dominion Square Tavern entered bankruptcy on June 20, with a creditors' meeting scheduled for July 8; owners Alexandre Wolosianski and Alexandre Baldwin later confirmed the bar would not be reopening, citing lease negotiations, the pandemic, and nearby construction. The long-temporarily-closed restaurant—whose website still described it as closed for the pandemic—has a full voicemail and no social updates since December 2020 (when it was advertising holiday-basket pre-orders). Opened in 2009, the downtown staple was beloved for old-school cocktails, upscale English pub grub and French bistro fare, a vintage feel, and its gorgeous interior housed in a former tavern dating back to the Roaring Twenties." - Valerie Silva

"A hop, skip, and jump away from the crowds of Saint-Catherine Street, this downtown institution touts upscale pub food and classic cocktails in a charming refurbished tavern circa 1927. Expect an easy going, laidback atmosphere, where music and conversation flows through the place — without getting too rowdy."

"As a downtown staple, Dominion Square Tavern has helped establish the owners' reputation for high-quality bar service, which they have parlayed into other projects like Taverne Atlantic." - Tim Forster

"Dominion Square Tavern is an aesthetically-pleasing nod to British cuisine with an old school feel and a polished take on the classics. It’s especially famed for its Sunday roasts, which are served with all the trimmings (including Yorkshire pudding), and the sticky toffee pudding is perfection. The bar also has an impressive cocktail list, including a number of gins to pair with house-made tonic." - Holly Tousignant

"Hearty meals like mussels and bangers and mash straddle the line between homey and upscale at this 90-year-old stalwart. The neat and fairly classic cocktail list combined with a gorgeous interior also makes it a worthy spot for a nightcap or pre-game drink. Open until midnight daily." - Tim Forster
