10 Must-Order Old Fashioneds in Dallas | Eater

"To celebrate Old Fashioned Week, Bar Eden will make a special version of “It Never Ends,” a popcorn-infused Old Fashioned made with Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon. The whiskey is fat-washed with brown butter, maize, salted popcorn, and nutritional yeast that’s frozen and then strained the next day for a complex blend of flavors. That mixture then becomes the foundation for the cocktail, mixed with Demerara sugar and a blend of Angostura and barrel-aged bitters. The drink is served over a large ice cube with a side of popcorn for a little snack. And when it’s not Old Fashioned Week, you can always order a classic Elijah Craig Old Fashioned with a healthy dose of Angostura bitters alongside Bar Eden’s beef tartare." - Vox Creative

Google
We went there for Christmas white elephant gift exchange. At first glance, the place feels like artificially constructed heaven and Garden of Eden. Great place for special occasions and birthdays. Food is just OK. Cocktails were too sweet and just average.

Google
Wow what a spectacular place! The vibes and atmosphere were very romantic and intimate. We went there for drinks and sat at the bar while Luis served us and created drinks that was so delicious and creative. Will definitely come back!

Danielle Green

Google
Beautiful bar, friendly bartender and amazing cocktails! Great for date night. We can’t wait to come back.

Google
Beautiful place with very friendly mixologists who will cater any drinks to your preferences. Luis is incredible!

Google
Eden in Bishop Arts is a must-visit spot for anyone who loves a good cocktail. The mix drinks are simply amazing and the bartenders really know their stuff. I was blown away by the creativity and attention to detail that went into each drink. The atmosphere is also fantastic. It's a cozy spot with a cool vibe, perfect for a night out with friends or a date. The bartenders are friendly and always happy to make recommendations based on your taste preferences.

Google
By far one of the most unique cocktail bars in Dallas. We arrived right when they opened at 5pm and had top-notch service for our entire visit. Every drink we ordered was impeccably made and beautifully presented (i.e. in a giant goose). We learned that they are owned by Paradiso next door so we were able to order dinner from the restaurant menu which was awesome. Can’t wait to come back!

Google
Bar Eden was so much fun! We will definitely be back. Luis had such an amazing energy and made the best drinks!

Carolina Richardson

Google
Truthfully I was skeptical to try this place since the concept and the over all aesthetic seemed a little too swanky for my preference; but like many other things that are located in Bishop Arts, it is pleasantly inviting. The bartenders are very nice and the cocktails were delicious! I definitely see myself coming back in the future with a friend.

Yelp
Cute and intimate lounge in Bishop arts with a solid list of punchy cocktails and mocktails, good for girls night.

Yelp
Yes yes yes! We happened to go in during an emo day! They were playing rock and emo music. Everyone was singing their hearts out. I don't think this is the usual, but I'm glad i stumbled in when i did. If they ever establish an Emo Night, i will be coming back! The drinks were amazing as well! the staff was amazing, friendly. I left being friends with them! The mood is what really did it for me!

Yelp
Great bar! I loved the ambiance, and it was a perfect stop on our night out. We tried the South of Davis, and it was very refreshing with a crisp cucumber flavor! A well-balanced cocktail. We also got the margarita, and it had a great mix of flavors. I'm obsessed with the decor here, and I will definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
I absolutely loved this place for the amazing cocktails! The place is publicized to be a unique cocktail experience and it exceeds this! Drink menu is minimal but includes all liquor and each drink has their twist to it! Try every drink!! Ambience is really nice outdoors and inside. Love it when bars have finger food. Just makes you want to stay longer. Even the complimentary popcorn was great! Service was nice and the servers kept checking on us even though they were short on staff. Can't miss this place!

Yelp
Jon and Jamie were so nice to us! Would definitely recommend coming here. We had the best time!!!!

Yelp
This is a really cute cocktail bar nestled in the heart of Bishop Arts District. The bartenders are friendly and the drinks are excellent! It's a decent size but can fill up fast so if you have a large group, you may have to wait on a table. It's next to Paradiso's patio so late at night you can bring your drink to one of those tables if there's no seating inside Bar Eden.
google avatar

Shun Z.

Yelp
Very cute bar. Great ambiance and service Drinks were delish, I forgot the names of the drinks we got but they were good.
google avatar

Danni Y.

Yelp
Gorgeous interior design, lots of beautiful tile but it's only looks. Went on a night they had disco set up and lots of disco balls every where. But even at midnight there wasn't any crowd yet they were turning people away for some reason. Heads up you want a crowd to encourage dancing/fun. Also the drinks were incredibly expensive, we just got one round of tequila shots and they automatically charged us at least a 20% tip. Pretty on the outside but the atmosphere just wasn't there.
google avatar

Melody V.

Yelp
Great drinks and vibes! This is a perfect bar to stop in at on a weekend after brunch or for a night cap. The margaritas are good. PSA -They also have an espresso martini that is infused vodka on the rocks and not your typical espresso martini. I was a bit surprised by this. It wasnt horrible but not my thing either. There's limited seating and the back room is pretty hot with 0 airflow so this bar is better for small groups.

Yelp
This place is cute, romantic, and cozy. I went here for a live jazz event and really enjoyed the atmosphere. The only downside is that that the private cozy booth prevent you from seeing others in the restaurant ( great for privacy but bad if you want to see someone performing). You can order food from Paradiso to this bar which is a really great thing as their menu consists of mostly drinks. I enjoyed my time here and the drinks and food were tasty. The other pro and con is that the place is very small. It filled up quickly when I was there and several people left because there was no seating.

Yelp
Amazing ambience!!! So beautiful! We were late here so could not try any food but the cocktails here are gorgeous (they really are!) and delicious! Gunslinger is a must try! We had a great time! Cannot wait to go back again!
google avatar

Dan G.

Yelp
Even on a Sunday with just a few people hanging out this place was great. The staff was awesome and attentive. Filter through their selections and see what you like or ask them to make you something custom! Since there were only a few people we were able to pick songs and everyone sang along!
google avatar

Yelp
Cute place, it's a bar so service was scarce; no big deal, but one thing I noticed is that the prices we were charged for each drink were $1 more than what is listed on the menu (menu says $12, payment machine said $13). No big deal, but in the grand scheme, it's a lot of $$ they're potentially pocketing with the number of people they get coming through that place. And as quickly as they tap through the screen on the payment machine you can't even request a receipt to have for reference. After further review the tips don't match either I paid 15% on a $13 check and was charged nearly $17. Actually glad we were just stopping there briefly between stops. Yikes

Yelp
Love this bar! Great decor, very vibrant. Lots of unique drinks on the menu. Was packed on a Friday night, service was slow. Ordered the margarita, loved the coconut in it, had good mix of distinct flavors and the right amount of tequila. Excited to come by and try their other drinks. Parking is a bit hard as it's in Bishop Arts, but can find street parking in the adjacent neighborhoods.

Yelp
The only upside to this bar is the design. The bartender took ten minutes to make a drink when there are only 6 on the entire menu and there were maybe 20 people total in the building. After taking the order for 3 drinks he walked away to chat up someone else and had to come back and ask for the order again. After giving him the card to close out, he put it in his pocket and proceeded to start making drink for a new group instead of giving us the bill. We asked another waitress to help us out getting the bill, we saw him talk to her, show the card, then keep making drinks.

Yelp
My friends and I came here the other night as we were meeting another friend who is from the Dallas area. We got there around 6pm, and we were able to choose where we wanted to sit. The space was dimly lit, with couches and more traditional tables. They had a great cocktail menu and we got several drinks amongst us: the gunslinger, a Negroni and remembering places and each was very good. There was a live band that started playing music while we were there and it just made the ambiance all that more wonderful. I would definitely recommend coming here if you're in the area and looking for a great place for a drink.

Yelp
Awesome spot with great atmosphere, tunes, and killer cocktails. Service was excellent and definitely will be returning.

Yelp
Really like the vibe of this place and the experience of this bar. I checked this place out with some friends and we had a great time. The drinks are unique and delicious and the bartenders and servers are very friendly. We ordered 3 drinks and sat on a couch, and the server brought us our drinks in a cute tub with ice and decorations- what a fun way serve/receive our drinks! There is plenty of seating inside with couches, tables, and chairs. There is also outdoor seating. Can't wait to visit again.

Carlos A.

Yelp
Showed up with a large group of 8. We walked in and sat at an open table area. I walked up and tried to order at the bar and the bartender said she couldn't get my order because she was busy making drinks and I would have to wait until she came to our table. I counted only 9 other people at the bar. 4 inside and 5 outside. After waiting for about 15-20 mins. The bartender still did not acknowledge us or take our drink order. We decided to leave and she didn't even acknowledge us leaving. Worst service I had all day at bishop arts. If we're expected to pay $15+ a cocktail then I think better service should be expected from this place.

Yelp
Meh. I enjoyed walking around at Bishop arts, cute lil neighborhood. We came here for a drink, or two, or... ;))) It was gorgeous out so we sat outside. We walked through the restaurant, said hy and made our way outside. That has been said, we should have been approached fast, but unfortunately that's not what happened, actually our server said that we can't expect service if we didn't let them know we are outside. ... Good start. We ordered drinks, they were forgettable, nothing special. Well, the space made up for it. (See pics below) Again, we decided to drive back to our neighborhood and finish the nite strong :) This place should work on customer service.

Yelp
I just love my hometown of Oak Cliff and with the rise of Bishop Arts District once again, I totally miss living there. Anywho, the wife and I went to a second spot this past Friday and found Botanist. I just had a shot of gin and the wife had a Wildberry Smash she also ordered fried artichokes which were really good. They have a cool patio that looks to be shared with surrounding establishments and that evening they had a live band out there which was cool. The service is good, but there drinks were a bit pricey. I am not sure they even do happy hour or not, but these drinks were full price, so be prepared.

Yelp
Went to the soft opening - it was PACKED!! The space is beautiful! Customer service (even with being jam packed) was awesome!! The drinks were on point! I'll make my way back here, for sure, and try the actual food menu. :)

Yelp
Such a beautiful place, drinks are wonderful. Definitely had a good time with friends

Yelp
Guys and Gals, The botanist has grown up to be an amazing place to past some time with friends, family or a date. My favorite drink from the menu is one that plays bit of a trick with your mind, The expresso martini! It's clear like water but full of expresso flavor that finishes very smooth on the palate with no acidic after taste. If your in bishop please swing by and try em out.

Ryan S.

Yelp
We went to Bar Eden for a few drinks. The service and atmosphere were absolutely wonderful. Drinks were definitely upscale and overall I am very happy with my decision to take my friend here.

Laurel A.

Yelp
Stopped in tonight for a drink and waited at the bar for over 5 mins. Three of the bartenders/waitstaff completely ignored my girlfriend and I. Never greeting us, never indicating where we should order, and overall avoiding eye contact. It was strange. As visitors from Austin, when things like this happen, I feel discriminated against either for being black or for being lesbian. Either way, we felt unwelcome after being told to grab a drink here by the host at Paradiso. Honestly, step up your service.
google avatar

Lance T.

Yelp
The obvious attraction of the bar is the picture-perfect interior setting that is the backdrop of Every instagrammable cocktail on the menu! When we were there the bar staff was a little behind based on the large crowd enjoying the gorgeous open-door weather. While perfectly understandable based on the crowd the staff was above-and-beyond at checking in with us and even gave us complimentary champagne to hold over for our cocktails. World class service at its finest!
google avatar

Patrick A.

Yelp
Amazing evening place for drinks. The location has multiple different places that each has its own vibe. The drinks are amazing, tasteful and potent. The staff were extremely pleasant and provided amazing customer service. Highly recommended.

Alejandra O.

Yelp
Just came here to say that Freddy and Jared were amazing! They made the drinks with love and care. And they always have the best playlistst! If you want a chill down to earth vibe, i recommend coming here.
google avatar

Riya P.

Yelp
MUST TRY EXPRESSO MARTINI AND BISHOP SOCIETY. Their drinks are amazing and the appetizers are yumm. I always order their hummus and fries.
google avatar

Heather H.

Yelp
If I could give zero stars I would. I took a party of 6 celebrating a birthday, we ordered from the bar and were then told to return to our table. The bar staff was preoccupied with celebrating a staff birthday. We waited 45 minutes and were never severed the drinks we paid for... I was forced to return to bar to request a refund and was told that I sat at the wrong table (which was in conflict with the prior instructions). Despite their mistake on top of ruining our celebration, I was made to feel like I inconvenienced them by asking for a refund. I will never be back.
google avatar

Christina M.

Yelp
Wonderful place for drinks! Amazing ambiance. I tried the Bishop Society and was so pleased! Beautiful decoration, perfect amount of sweetness, and a delicious egg white to top it off. Absolutely try the hummus, some of the best in Dallas!
google avatar

Cherie H.

Yelp
The atmosphere is dope!!! Very cool. However, I was very disappointed in the drinks. Every drink I tried tasted like mildly flavored water. I would go back for the vibe only, not the drinks.
google avatar

Anne S.

Yelp
We stopped by here around 10 pm on a Sunday evening and easily got a table for our party of five on their GORGEOUS patio. Those huge trees strung with lights...magical. Two of us ordered pretty standard drinks (a "last word" and an old fashioned) and enjoyed them. A third drink was "The Mitchell," with mezcal, cynar, and lemon. I wasn't drinking at this point in the evening (yep, we had started pretty early) so can't really speak to the drinks, none of which are drinks I would have ordered anyway. Sorry this is super not helpful in that regard. Two of us ended up sitting inside for a while, and the waitress was very kind about offering us drinks, and she came by to check on us once and refilled our waters. When we rejoined our group outside, they said they'd been wanting to order another round but hadn't seen the waitress in over an hour. It definitely was NOT a busy night (the patio had mostly emptied by midnight), so I'm hoping this was a soft-open kink that they'll work out by hiring more employees. The space is gorgeous and is probably the #1 reason I'd come back (hoping the drinks are solid). The patio is just dreamy, and the interior is lush and rich and beautiful. It's not a large space, so I'd imagine it might not be too much fun on a crowded weekend...time will tell.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite spot in Dallas. Everything about our experience is 5 stars. The bartenders, Jared and Freddy, were friendly and gave wonderful service and had great drink recommendations. The drinks are artistically crafted and the thought that is put into the presentation is something not many bars take the time to do. The cocktail waitress is super personable and sweet, and even helped us take photos! The interior is beautifully designed and has a cozy, welcoming feel to it. There are a variety of seats- the couch area, the Bar top, and there is a room on the side as well with tables and chairs. Can't wait to come back!!
google avatar

Paul D.

Yelp
I was really disappointed with this place. I called ahead to ask about parking. The person who answered said there was lots of parking. That was a lie. When I arrived, I found that the tiny lot was entirely full. The street parking was also mostly full. I found a spot and walked. After walking in, I was asked to sit down by two separate people within seconds of each other. Service is very aggressive. As a party of four, each of us ordered a different drink. Each drink was very one-note. They all tasted basically the same, sweet on sweet. To top it off, after we had been sitting for a while a DJ sets up and starts playing music too loud for us to hear each other. So, we paid the tab and left. As a more minor note, nothing about the place made sense. Charcuterie isn't supposed to be served in a bowl. The decor isn't coherent and doesn't fit the music. The seating is awkward. The food doesn't fit the drinks. It's supposed to be a cocktail bar, but the cocktails just aren't very good. The whole restaurant seems to be a product of a lack of experience and expertise. The Botanist has only been open since August 2019. Given how competitive the cocktail scene is in Dallas, I would be surprised if they make it a year.
google avatar

Shan W.

Yelp
Very nice location and the scene is great, both outside and indoor seating. The drinks were pretty strong and prices were reasonable. I ordered the lemon top which was 13$. I love the Bishop Arts district and this place is def a must stop.

Jackline M.

Yelp
Drinks were not as good. Service was slow even when seated the bar. Great Ambience. I would go back definitely.
google avatar

Kimberly P.

Yelp
My girlfriends brought me here for part of my birthday celebration and I loved it!! The drinks were on point * the decor in the place was so dope * the cheese board was very good too! I would definitely come back again! My friends picked a perfect spot for birthday cocktails!
google avatar

Tiana R.

Yelp
This bar has the great combination of great drinks, awesome people and a beautiful aesthetic! Particularly enjoyed the Botanist cocktail and a pineapple margarita I had that was off menu. The bartenders are very skilled and create some really great drinks. Inside the bar there are great couch areas for more intimate meetings in addition to a good-sized bar seating and outside bar seating, too. If that wasn't awesome enough, we were able to order some select items from the Paradiso menu. The pepperoni pizza was absolutely delicious, taking the evening to another level. I would definitely come back here! One of my favorite cocktail bars in Dallas now.
google avatar

Incog N.

Yelp
Great staff. Super friendly and welcoming. It's Wednesday and they have LIVE MUSIC! Love it and thank you. Cocktails are pretty kush as well.
google avatar

Taylor S.

Yelp
10/10 - their menu was good. Their bar tenders were so nice and accommodating. Loved their vibe. Reasonably priced. Came here for my after dinner birthday drinks. Excellent experience from start to finish
google avatar

Paul P.

Yelp
Reminiscent of speakeasy mixology bars of dallas 2012. Great food which I was told comes from next. The service was painfully slow.

Sean H.

Yelp
I wish I could give them a zero. We were a party of three and waited at the bar to get served. After waiting a while, one of the bartenders told us it would be better to sit down in the open seating. In that time he explained that, he could have just taken our order right then instead of making excuses. We sit down anyway. Then we notice the bar had no problem serving a party of seven that stood right where we were at previously. We waited for service in open seating quite some time, we only saw a server because a couple next to us was getting served. We made an order. To make things worse, the server is hanging out with her friends instead of taking care of orders in a timely manner. We ended up leaving because the service was terrible. There's no reason anyone should wait 30 minutes for drinks. I hope I'm wrong to think this way, but observing the room told me only a certain demographic was welcome at the bar and everyone else was pushed to seating. I'll never come here again.
google avatar

Francesca D.

Yelp
Have had nothing but great experiences here! I felt so at home and loved as I walked in and was asked my name with what I would like to drink. The crowd there is always a good time and I think this bar is a great addition to the others in bishop. Can't ask for a better cocktail waitress than Madi! She is always bubbly and super accommodating, Jared is full of life and so animated and Freddy is extremely nice and nice to look at. Highly recommend if you're looking for a chill vibe and lots of laughs
google avatar

Priya G.

Yelp
Vibe is on point. Gorgeous chandeliers, great ambience, comfy seating with plenty of barrel chairs and pretty sofas. Paid $185 for 11 drinks. This bar would easily do well in NYC or any other huge city. Drinks were on point. Service was great. Will be back.
google avatar

Joanna T.

Yelp
My husband and I came here for drinks on his birthday weekend and we had the best time! The staff was super friendly and honestly made our night! The ambiance was fun and upbeat. The drinks were a little slow to come out but the staff (Valerie) was aware of it and tried her best to make up for it! We will definitely be back! FYI this is on the side of paradiso, next to a White House.
google avatar

Geeta A.

Yelp
I wanted to like this place so bad, but the service is dishonest and disorganized, the drinks are forgettable, and the ambiance makes no sense. We called ahead to ask about parking. We were told there was a lot in the back with plenty of parking. When we arrived, there was a small lot (~15-20 cars) that was completely full. So no, there is not "plenty" of parking. We should have been told "there's a small lot, and you can try your luck" -- we would still have come, but we could have parked at a friend's place down the road. Honesty is SO important. Drinks were forgettable. The Merry Berry Smash and the Prickly Pear Margarita tasted almost exactly the same, with the overwhelming flavor being "sweet." For a place called "Botanist" I would have expected more creative, distinguished drinks. Cut the simple, and add rosemary or thyme instead of mint to the berry smash. Go down the road to Wild Detectives for better. Seriously. Also the charcuterie was served in a bowl... which was just weird. Service was disorganized. We were told to sit down by 3 different people within a few minutes. 2 different servers came to take our drink orders on separate occasions, and we were asked how we were about every 5 minutes. It was just overwhelming and felt rushed. Not the place for a quiet drink. The decor was my favorite thing about this place -- love the lighting and the couches, the courtyard, and the multiple "rooms" -- very cute. Too bad it was ruined by the music. We are Family turned up too loud to have a conversation? Followed by a DJ playing club music? It was so loud, we opted to leave and go to Emporium next door. Needless to say, I would not recommend, and I will not be back. Instagram-worthy, sure, but I need more than a good picture to fork over $12+ for a drink. :

Quia Q.

Yelp
What a gorgeous spot! I stopped by here after a (very) early dinner @ Paradiso (which was very tasty BTW). One would probably wonder what would be appealing to a non-drinker at a cocktail bar but Angel made me a great mocktail. He and Gio are the best.
google avatar

Jackie K.

Yelp
This bar Botanist is darling--it's set back in a courtyard situated kind of behind Emporium Pies and Paradiso in the Bishop Arts District. The decor is so unique (intimate/cozy and yet modern at the same time), and the drinks are great. A fun spot to meet up with friends for drinks!
