The 14 Best Tapas Spots In Barcelona 2024

"This beautiful Art Deco bar serves traditional Catalan specialties like cod with a ratatouille-like pisto (minus the eggplant), and our favorite: cheese-smothered macaroni gratin with roast chicken and pork. The croquettes are the house best seller—you can get squid ink or Iberian ham, but we like to order one of each. With just the right balance of creaminess and crispness, they’re some of the finest in the city and go great with unpasteurized beers directly from the Moritz Barcelona Factory." - isabelle kliger

Google
such a classic in Barcelona, came back after 6 years and is still open, hope it stays like that. A sort of art deco style bar, tall ceilings, green sofas, rather simple tables and chairs, but a lot of mood. Good music also. Mostly frequented by locals.

Came here in a Tuesday with a party of 4 at around 7:00. The place was busy but we didn’t wait too long. It did take a little long to get our order taken. Tapas were good. Beers great

Google
Absolutely fabulous. Such an interesting location ,atmosphere. Fantastic staff, and the food, amazing. Menu, such a wide choice to satisfy all tastes. A thoroughly enjoyable experience. In other words Australian for happy.

Google
These guys don’t want to serve more than 12 tables having about 10 empty ones here all around. Another group gets a table before we do whilst we wait with some cañas by the bar. Zero communication and non welcoming. Didn’t even tried the food. Left to the place next door! Way more welcoming!

Google
Lovely experience w food/drink tapas. Super close to our hotel Hesperia Presidente, a 2-minute walking distance. Was seated immediately and food/drink came out within moments. First time here and will not be the last

Google
Experience has been extremely good. Beers are good, location is very good, service is OK. Food was good, I appreciated a lot the Barcelona hummus and the anchovies. I can say that squids were not fried in the best way, but the overall comment is that the full experience has been very positive. If you go too late, you need to reserve a table. Prices are fair, aligned with Barcelona.

Google
Amazing experience, the food was awesome, also the service. Absolutely worthy.

Google
I like this place because the first time that I visited with a Catalan friend, and when I asked him why the wall at the end of the dining room wasn’t painted, he explained that it's left that way because they value its age and history. He also told me that this is one of the oldest restaurants, dating back to 1933. I love the feeling and the idea that it's not just a restaurant but a part of history! I've been here 4-5 times and had different experiences, but overall, it’s always been good. Is it worth trying? Absolutely! I recommend the coquetas, egg and potato (a traditional dish), lentils, calamari, and also the bucatillas! I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because on some visits, it felt like the chef wasn’t in the best mood for cooking 😂😬.

Yelp
A very old restaurant named after track cycling, featuring high-quality tapas, bar food, and main dishes all served by a staff more focused on efficiency than personality. On a recent visit to Barcelona, I visited Velódromo both for a solo dinner as well as breakfast the following day. I loved the food and found the Velódromo Pastrami sandwich, made in homage to Katz in NYC, both humorous in its weird interpretation of the original, and also completely delicious. They DO have an English menu available but do not expect all of the staff to understand you. Please be kind and have your google translate ready. It's worth it just so you can blend in, lay back, and enjoy this classic neighborhood gem.

Yelp
Came here to enjoy some Tapas and beer at a company mixer. The local draft beer was excellent and the tapas were also delicious. The venue was old and cool but the waitstaff could have been friendlier.
google avatar

Shelly A.

Yelp
The food was fine, a bit difficult to get someone's attention to be placed on the wait list. That being said the wait was not too long for a Friday night. The service was pretty good, but it was very loud inside. Difficult to hear, the tomato bread was the best we had so far on our trip.

Yelp
Reminds me of cafes in Vienna with its high ceilings and newspapers by the door. A very chill spot and good for unpretentious business meetings. The tuna salad is one of my favorites b/c of the quality of the tuna and tomatoes. Great selection of Moritz on tap!
google avatar

Yelp
Great food and cool old vibe inside. Amazing hummus, tortilla, lamb. Good beer on tap too!

Yelp
It was our first time visiting Barcelona and we hit a jackpot with this place!!!! This place was recommended by our airbnb host. It was thriving with all the amazing smells, people catching up after work and some great cava. We loved this place would be such an understatement :) Everything we laid our hands on (food) was amazing. They had an English Menu, the waiters were ready to help and answer questions, the drinks were amazing, the food was soo rightly priced and tasted perfect, nothing more we could ask for. Their bravas are a must try along with the super famous peppers. They had an extensive sea food menu but since none of the others in my group have seafood I only had 2 tapas. The fried anchovies were worth a try. We infact ended up going twice to this place in the 2 days we stayed in Barcelona.

Yelp
A local Barcelonian had recommended this restaurant to me and I'm so glad I got the Chance to experience Velodromo! It kind of puts me in the mind of a New York restaurant with the high ceilings and Victorian like interior. The waiters were very friendly and everyone speaks great english :) They have a wide variety of different menu selections of food so u feel like you could also dine here with that one friend whose vegetarian or pescatarian :) I'm soooooo picky when it comes to food but I had the pork knuckle which was absolutely amazing! The prices for the food here are unbeatable. I highly reccomend checking this restaurant out while in Barcelona! They're sangria is also very good! I'll definitely visit Velodromo again before I leave!

Yelp
Service was very kind and fast. The dinning area nice and Cousy. Food quality was very good, fresh and tasty. We give it a four stars cause food was rare or not typical to us. Still I left my plate empty, while my wife has trouble with eggs.

Yelp
This place definitely looks nice, but the service was 50/50. Our host who sat us was very nice, helpful and accommodating to our group of 6. We got sat pretty fast and the food was delivered fast as well. They have a pretty good selection of options on their menu as well. They did mess up on our order for a sandwich we ordered without meat. They still put ham, but we're nice enough to remake it. Our waiter in the other hand was not nice at all. Not sure if he was having a bad day, but regardless he just had an attitude towards our entire stay. He rolled his eyes at our request more than once. He was very snarky with his response back to us asking any sort of question about the menu. This city is full of tourism, and can't expect for every person to understand heir menu and/or customs. Simply for the service, we would think twice about returning. Food was ok but not enough to bring us back. This place could be great, if only the service was too.

Yelp
The Bomba de la Moritz (home made beef and potato croquette with spicy brava sauce) is transcendent! Crunchy on the outside, moist on the inside; potato and beef flavor mixed together perfectly. I would visit again for this... Also Spanish Ommlete is dope!
google avatar

Venvy F.

Yelp
The octopus is nice, but the potato is slightly over oily. The service is professional.
google avatar

Yelp
Enjoyed the atmosphere and WiFi Lol. Food was not bad but not to die for? Although my friend really enjoyed everything . Overall ok but service was a so slow which killed it for me. I'd legit make eye contact with the waiter 10 times and he'd ignore me.

Yelp
This institution in Barcelona is still going pretty strong. I have come here for as long as I can remember but usually not because it is the best place but the fact that they are open late, have decent food and with no reservations it may be a bit of a wait but it is almost always possible to get a table fairly fast. It's not the place to go for fantastic food but they serve up some decent tapas and the price level is acceptable. Beer selection is limited and basically all from local brewer Moritz who own this place so expect boring selection of standard lagers. The service is usually fast and while not really friendly they are efficient and English speaking so this place remains one of my go to places as a back-up when hungry. I try to avoid at peak times as the wait can then be a bit longer bit they are a solid option.

Yelp
We stumbled across this gorgeous looking place that resembles an old American soda parlor. We didn't have a wait and ordered from the tapas menu. It's a little different in that an order of croquetas is just one piece. It however was delicious. The calamari croqueta wasn't to my liking. The ternera chimichurri was tasty. It came with mashed potatoes underneath. I'm in love with eggplant so I really enjoyed the El Siscento de la Moritz. Very tasty and silky eggplant. The Bomba was also ok. However the regular sangria was delicious! I really liked the decor and environment of the place. I highly recommend it. I also see they are open long hours from 6a till 2am. I will return.

Yelp
I've been there twice and even that its still quite touristy, this bar has been her forever and you can feel it. The service is fast and good, the tapas are awesome- go for bravas, pimientos de padron, croquettes de jamon, some sea food, all is good. We have tried the red wine too which was good. All in all €20 per person if you are 5-6 people and order several things to share plus a bottle of wine.

Kam L.

Yelp
It was starting to become busy when I arrived. Ordered way too many things. Peppers (my favorite), two coquettes (squid and ham), crispy potatoes, cheese platter, tomato bread. Good food, locals eat here.
google avatar

Yelp
It's hard to find a place that's opened all day to eat! So it's great that El Velodromo opens at 1300 to 0100. Food is great , they have a variety of local plates. It's a beautiful restaurant and they have terrace options.

Maria B.

Yelp
This restaurant was unbelievably amazing! The food was one of the best I've had. None of the dishes we had disappointed us. The stuffed chicken was like nothing I've ever had in my life.. so so so good! We had an appetizer, 2 entrees, 3 desserts, and 2 wine glasses each all for less then 80€ ! Can't beat the quality and service of this restaurant with these prices! Highly recommend for anyone in Barcelona !
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
Service is a bit slow today... And welcome is not so joyful. This place will always be special to me but I think it's time to move on.
google avatar

Liz L.

Yelp
Hubby and I stopped in here for a late lunch. Food was delicious, service was great, and we really enjoyed the interior. I'm surprised they don't have a higher star rating - we liked it! It was not dirt cheap, but it was definitely affordable, especially considering the quality of food. There are a lot of regulars and locals in there too, which is always a good sign of authenticity.

Yelp
My family of four came here twice during our one week trip to Barcelona, and I really loved it. The building itself is a lovely example of restored art deco architecture and design. It's large and spacious -- you are close enough to neighboring tables to be friendly, but not too close. The menu is varied and covers all the best Barcelona basics. We had eggs, tapas, churros dipped in melted chocolate, pastries, sausages, coffees, etc. and everything was very good. The service is also top notch, but we found this to be the case throughout Barcelona. The wait staff was friendly and patient with our lack of Spanish, and they were gracious with our stumbling and fumbling. Definitely worth a trip - for the food, drinks, and people watching.

Yelp
It was early in the morning. actually more like 11 am on a sunday morning after a night of clubbing i was actually more enamored by my company but i liked the decor not intimate or cozy though. it was bright and cheery actually with a french flair (and we all know how much I LOVE Paris) Your water and coffee were just what we needed. thanks for being there when we needed you!

Yelp
Visiting Barcelona from the United States and found this place through Yelp! I understand how it can be touristy but I felt as though we were eating with locals. English didn't come as easily here as other places. Also, being from the states we eat all day every day and have dinner rather early. I knew Europeans didn't eat dinner until very late so I decided to go here at 9:30pm for tapas and sangria. There were not many people when I arrived but come 10:15/10:30 this place was PACKED! I immediately became more intrigued with this place. I had about 8 tapas, 3 being dessert and the wine sangria. The wine sangria was amazing as I expected. My favorites tapas were the stuffed peppers with spicy cheese and the carrot cake. I definitely recommend coming here!
google avatar

Don S.

Yelp
Great food and service in a wonderful neighborhood atmosphere. Highly recommended tapas!
google avatar

Pauline K.

Yelp
Food and wine was fine, nice little place for a drink any day of the week. But, the service is lacking, being a little more attentive and polite would go a long way for the waiters here.
google avatar

Jonathan C.

Yelp
This is one of those "always open" places and is not my first choice at peak times, but not a bad fallback when there is not a lot open. It's the perfect place for a hangover. The gran-jero sandwich is amazing ( it's just like a club sandwich, but better). The patatas braves is small, but a great side. Coffee is decent. It is very open and does not really have any type of atmosphere to speak of, although I will say the decor is nice and welcoming.
google avatar

Sam S.

Yelp
We had breakfast here and it was reasonably priced. I had fries, ham, eggs, toast and jam, and café con leche for about 8 euros. Coffee was quite flavorful but I'm from the U.S. where coffee is just brown water. Ambiance and service were both excellent!
google avatar

Deb W.

Yelp
Tapas were good. Don't eat the Rustic Noodle Casserole unless you like blood sausage and it doesn't look very appetizing.
google avatar

Stephen S.

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants in the city - sometimes you want to eat when other places are closed and I love that they serve throughout the day. The wine is amazingly affordable. But the FOOD - these are the huevos estrellados of my fantasies (con butifarra blanco is particularly good) - the bombas - the tortilla is amazing - the salmorejo - they really hit the mark dead center in all the classics. The service is admittedly slow but this is a gorgeous room to linger in.

Yelp
I came here for breakfast early morning on a weekday and it was perfect. I suggest the coffee con leche. I usually take my coffee black, but decided to try their con leche. It was amazing. I'm still craving it. It had a really nice balance and great flavor. I consider myself a croissant snob - and I have to say their croissants are up there with the best I've had. Super crispy/ flakey outer crust and a moist inside. Contrary to other reviews, I actually quite like the atmosphere at this place. I don't know what it's like later in the day, but early in the morning it fits my image of a fancy euro cafe. I read somewhere that it is also the site of several secret political meetings during the spanish civil war..which is pretty cool.
google avatar

Katie L.

Yelp
So good we came back! An excellent Priorat wine, Reflexe for 18€?! Wow. The beef with chimichurri was outstanding - perfectly cooked with that amazing spice. Patatas Bravas and all the usual tapas at a great price, with excellent service. Might make it back a 3rd time during our 5 day stay.
google avatar

Justin M.

Yelp
Just a great all round place. Superb tapas and great beers from Moritz who own the place. The building is a restored 1930s place with great high ceilings giving the place a real buzz.
google avatar

Kim H.

Yelp
Trendy little bar located in an alley way in the L'Eixample district. It has a dark ambiance with a dash of alternative flavor - the owners are apparently from LA. We sat at the bar and had some sangria. They were probably the best we had in Barcelona.
google avatar

Minette Y.

Yelp
I expected a little more ambiance since the place is so old and storied... supposedly intellectuals and revolutionaries met here once upon a time, but you wouldn't necessarily know it. The space is nice, open and airy with a classic looking bar and a well dressed waiter running from table to table. The menu is extensive, but also really quite expensive for what it is - appetizers around €11, main dishes around €25, some tapas between €7-10, as well as a list of more casual sandwiches. I went with a club sandwich which was toasty and tasty but just note QUITE worth €6.80 - considering the sparse amount of filling in the sandwich and no accompaniments. The other, smaller sandwich, which my boyfriend got, comes at a slightly lower €4. This seems like a deal until you see that it's a finger sandwich, literally about half the size of my palm, on soft white bread, not unlike a tea sandwich (in the idea of British high tea) but an oblong rectangle rather than a mini wedge. If you're not too hungry and don't mind paying more than normal, come here! Otherwise I think there are other places to be had.

Team H.

Yelp
This is a fabulous breakfast place. Lots of tables inside if it's not very nice outside.

Yelp
I would like my steak medium please. Spain is a huge country full of delicious food. It is crazy you get a croquetta for example in Barcelona, then order one in Madrid and they are totally different. In some cases its a whole other type of food. Velodromo was walking distance from my hotel during my stay and it seemed like a logical choice. The restaurant itself is very spacious and has a pool table too. Once I got the menu in castellano I was able to order. In Barcelona they speak a different dialect than ordinary spanish and its it tough to understand. We started our meal with some Calamari, and some cheese and prosciutto. then came a nice steak cooked medium of course with pretty much no seasoning. It was the best steak I have had. The service was great. Barcelona itself is amazing and I recommend everyone to go and eat at Velodromo

Ro H.

Yelp
Lavish interior instantly makes this "an institution" and I highly recommend it. There signature dish seems to be the Katz's deli inspired Pastrami sandwich, though the menu is massive. There was a clumsily applied pesto paste which didnt work for me. I didn't like the burger, but then I can't stand gourmet style burgers with thick patties, so I am biased. The papas bravas were essentially french fries with a ketchup-mayo sauce and overly crispy. I'd return for a cocktail and the incredible interior -- might order the pastrami without the sauce and probably explore the menu a bit. Also, it's open on Sundays!

eric l.

Yelp
Very tasty food, minimal waiting, staff spoke enough English. Reasonably priced. We had olive cheese sandwiches, eggplant with basil mozzarella , and a nice veggie pasta dish.

Cynthia M.

Yelp
Came here for a early dinner and wasn't disappointed at all. Calamari sandwich was good and so was the macaroni au gratin that my mom had. We sat outside and yes it's on a busy street but the people watching made up for the traffic.

Negin J.

Yelp
The Irish coffee and tiramisu were amazing, and the staff deserved 5 stars. Very polite and helpful. Very nice experience.

Ellie D.

Yelp
Drinks aren't bad but food isn't up to par. Had the steak tartare and it was really really bad. Had a funny taste to it and when I sent it back to get it re-done the bad taste was still there. Didn't want to complain again so just asked for the check away. The waitress obviously knew I wasn't happy but just ignored the situation anyways. My hubby got a burger that was mediocre but he happily ate that over my tartare. I'm very unhappy cuz that steak tartare was 18 euros and with the exchange rate to dollars that's about $27 today.
