"Shatteringly crisp fried chicken, honey, and Aleppo chile spiced with Calabrian ranch sauce, served in a heaping bowl enough for two, is a staple at this bistro on the Downtown Plaza known for comfort classics. Scallops served with hazelnuts, wax beans, tomato, and spicy fish sauce is another specialty at Bar Juillet, whose young married owners have pedigrees from San Francisco (chef Wesley Reimer worked at Octavia; Corrie was manager at Frances) and Portland (Reimer at The Woodsman Tavern)." - Sharon McDonnell

Brace yourself for a conflicted food review. Bar Juliet is a well-known and revered spot for locals. Historically I have enjoyed their outstanding cocktails, but find their food overhyped. I often roll my eyes and accompany friends for dinner. Indeed, if you glance at the menu, you’ll find their basic spaghetti dish listed for $36 and their house salad runs for $25. Other classic plates (steak, halibut) run at about $40, but the portion size of these dishes doesn’t match the typical fine dining restaurant. Their kitchen sort of runs on-the-fly and so you are expected to order several dishes to share, which come out at their own pace. My qualm is you end up eating like you’re at a tapas spot all the while paying full fine-dining price for each plate. Nevermind the economics lesson, let’s talk food. We started with the charcuterie board which was one of the best I’ve had at a restaurant. Lots of bold flavors and textures between the cheeses and meats. The focaccia bread was also fresh, airy, and excellent. I would actually recommend getting this even if you’re going out just for drinks. The peach-flavored old fashioned was a hit, and we also tried a potent lavender cocktail which was super unique. The main dishes we got were well-executed. The steak was a petite filet that was superbly tender accompanied by a red pepper sauce. Small portion with a light salad, but delicious. The burger was very rich and had the density of a dying sun (just look at the cross-section!). Contrary to what you may think, this is a dish to cut up and share. On this night, service was an issue—my poor friend’s main entree was forgotten. He ordered a burger for himself and we waited for the kitchen to roll it out and it just never came. I was prepared to give the place 4 stars and warn you to just go during happy hour, but will have to stop short at 3. Generally focus on the delicious cocktails and expect a few bites of good food here or there.

Google
Best happy hour in Ashland period! The fried chicken is something special. I'm usually a thigh guy but these breasts are amazing. Awesome fries, $4, and $2 quality draft beers, are you kidding me?! "Chicken breasts and beer, my three favorite things."💥🙌🏼

I did have the best gin and tonic of my life here. But everything was super salty and inexplicably had fish sauce on it. Service was excellent. Burger buns were stale. Fried chicken was weird, tasted like it marinated in soy milk?? Pasta was good. Fries aggressively average. Drinks were amazing. I wouldn’t go outside happy hour.

Outstanding! We were visiting from California and went here based off of a local friend's recommendation. We eat all organic at home and try to find that when we are traveling. Everything was absolutely delicious but I must admit my favorite was the fried Chicken. It was out of this world!! So juicy and the breading was like dessert. We shared the peas, little gem salad, shrimp, burrata, fish, Chicken and steak. It was the right move to share because it was all fantastic. Our cocktails were great as well!

We stumbled upon Bar Juliette on our trip through Oregon. Wow! Everyone and everything was fantastic! The staff were friendly, skilled and great to talk to. We sat outdoors on the upper porch as we had a two pups with us. Great people watching and nice breeze on a hot day. The staff was very accommodating of the pups, shared water and kisses/ pats. We arrived just as they opened and happily for Happy Hour! They have a large selection of beautiful wines on their Happy Hour menu. I enjoyed an orange and a light red, Fossil & Fawn “Do Nothing”. Yum, Yum, Yum! We enjoyed the Crudo, Melon and Prosciutto Salad, Frites, and Fried Chicken. The Crudo was Scallops on a puree of fruit with thinly sliced strawberries, oregano with a light dressing of olive oil. Light and refreshing, total hit! The melon salad was lovely, as were the fries. The star of the show was definitely the Fried Chicken. Best of my life so far. Lightly fried, super moist and flavorful and accompanied by a fennel slaw and a spicy remoulade. I can’t recommend this place highly enough. Cant wait to stumble in again on our next trip!

Lovely!! Food was incredible - everything tasted so good, even better than it looks if that’s possible. Food presentation was on point. We definitely over-ordered for 2, but we weren’t going to turn down leftovers! They have an expansive bottle list (few glass options though), and an amazing cocktail program. I ordered the rum & rye raisin cocktail and it tasted refreshingly fall, apple cinnamon with a rosemary twist. The fried chicken was our favorite, along with THEE salad, full of summer fruit, nut, and seeds - a unique combo that we couldn’t stop eating. All the wait staff were super friendly, the ambience was just the right balance between quiet romantic and a bustling social scene. Highly recommend and would absolutely come back for another delicious dinner!

Google
Such a nice evening at this Ashland restaurant. Four of us ordered five small plates to share. The crunchy pea salad with mint was delightful as was the spicy fennel pasta. The Burrata with rhubarb and raspberry drizzled with olive oil and served with pieces of toasted focaccia was extraordinary. Mushrooms and whipped ricotta tartine- yum! The beans with asparagus and a poached egg wasn’t so flavorful and the beans were al dente. It was, however, warming on a cold evening. If you prefer beans cooked through, pass on this dish. Our waiter was delightful and funny, fantastic service. Nice minimalist interior ambiance. Small yet very nice wine list including an orange wine. Reasonable prices and good quality. Cook those beans and season a tad more for 5 stars from me! Great place for small plates and ‘good’ wine by the glass.

Google
What a beautiful bar, the owners of Hither have created. They encourage family style dining so we enjoyed quite a variety from the menu. The service is outstanding, making sure every moment is enjoyable. The food was so delicious and well seasoned made with farm fresh ingredients and a menu that will be changing regularly. The cocktails are crafted with care and beautiful as well. We will definitely be back and have found a new favorite to add to our date nights!

Yelp
What a magical experience. I took my sister in law here for a little girls night and we had such a good time. The cocktail called paper plane was an elegant treat and the steak was beyond incredible. They even let me substitute French fries over the smashed potatoes! Such great service! Perfect place to go for an upscale yet can be casual dining experience.

Yelp
As my first time trying Bar Juillet I was pleased and curiosity satisfied but I'm not sure I feel compelled to visit it a second time. The entire vibe is a bit eclectic with food ranging from ricotta focaccia to fried chicken to Za'tar seasoned fries. Our server gave us advanced notice when we were sat that all of the food is brought whenever it's ready so dishes may be significant gaps apart. It's meant to be family style which makes sense but even for family style it was certainly unique having just one of the appetizers coming 20 minutes before the second app. Food: even by Ashland standards it's a bit overpriced for food with a side of fries being $10 by itself, $19 burger, ranging to dishes near $40. The Za'tar fries had a delicious reading but the fries with the burger left much to be desired as they didn't feel very seasoned. Either the higher price the burger isn't small with a double patty and bacon- it felt like a true "all-American" burger. Drinks: To be fair, their cocktails were between $15-17 and were certainly "craft" and not your average "red-solo-cup" drinks so that was well worth it. Atmosphere: our server as well as all of the staff were extremely nice and personable and the decor is very cute.

Yelp
So I only came in for a drink during happy hour. But the Margarita I got was quite tasty, and had really fancy salt on it. Also, at $12 I felt it was a pretty good price for a fancy cocktail. I had a couple of the fries that my friend ordered and they were solid. Very clean, classy, modern decor. When we arrived around 5 there weren't many people in there, but when we left just before six it was starting to get pretty full. I heard from another friend in town that it's a great date spot, and that the rest of the food is worth it.

Phil R.

Yelp
We've come here on several occasions and have always had a pretty good experience. The food, while not the best, is usually pretty tasty if a little bland in my opinion. If you ask for salt and pepper, you'll receive very small metal cups with about a teaspoon each, served with reticence. We arrived at 7pm for our reservations and ordered almost right away. We received our drink order at 7:30. Mine was a mocktail that was horrible and undrinkable. I asked for just a coke instead. They don't serve bread by the way. So if you're hungry there is nothing to tide you over. To shorten this review, we ordered salads, fries and an order of fried chicken. At 9pm we still hadn't received our chicken. When we got there the place was pretty busy. At 9pm there were about a third of the tables seated. Most after us. We asked them to box our chicken to go as it was Sunday night and Monday was a work day. I would have preferred to cancel the order but my partner is more forgiving than I. No apology was forthcoming. It will be a while before I give them another chance. Maybe in the middle of the off season when they can attend to their customers properly. Too bad. The only reason I'm not writing off the place entirely is because we had had a couple nice evenings here. But something has happened at the service or kitchen level. If it was just an off night, an apology would have helped tremendously. Two hours for a plate of fried chicken. The owner was there and wouldn't even look our way.

Yelp
I had bookmarked Juillet to try, but I never made it in last year. Since I was coming up for my graduation, why not come here and treat myself for my accomplishment! They had a good size dining room, and a really nice bar, which is where I sat. The staff is really friendly! I ordered the Hither Old Fashion to start. They have a number of craft cocktails, and this one called to me since I had just flown in. This was very good and a great beginning! I started with the Lety's Greens. Really good mix and the dressing was soooo good! I had read another review about the rigatoni, and the sausage and broccolini were so good with the pasta. However, this was different than the picture I had seen. The chef works with what is fresh and seasonal, and this version was delicious! I tried to order the Ovum cab but it was not available and the bartender, Felipe, gave me a sample of the Ultra Violet, and it was really good! Rounding out the evening, I had the kitchen choose the dessert for me, and out came a flourless chocolate cake with brandied cherries (?) This went well with the rest of the wine, Felipe even gave me just a splash more to enjoy the cake with. For my first meal back in Ashland, this was a great place to come to! So much so, a friend and I stopped in for a nightcap after we saw Born With Teeth. We enjoyed our Take the Greyhounds!

Yelp
Bland chicken, more sweet than salty, with bland sauce that tastes almost exactly the same in terms of flavor profile (sweet and barely salty) as the chicken. The fries on the other hand are over seasoned, too salty, the point it hurts your tongue and makes you grimace. Either someone fucked up or this place sucks lol how do you fuck up fried food that's been on your menu for years? If this is just because it was take out then explain how the food was picked up immediately and eaten immediately after, with maybe two minutes of time in the to go box. For nearly $40 this was a rip off. Couldn't even finish it cus it just wasn't good. Leave fried chicken to the every man's establishments, y'all need to keep focus on putting ponzu sauce on everything, as fine dining spots ought to The staff were very friendly over the phone, shame the chicken and fries were low grade/bad prep/pooly cooked.

Yelp
What a great experience! Terrific service and ambiance, not to mention food and drinks too! Relaxing rhythmic back ground music. They open at 4 on the dot and seem to get busier closer to 6ish. (probably not a place to bring the kids, as this is an environment for adults and thats a good thing) Will be back for the Rigatoni dish and Thee Spritz, these are great tasting items on the happy hour menu that pair perfectly together. Also impressed that they chill the glass before adding your drink to it, my friends Manhattan was icy cold. PS...there are new added items on the dinner menu not currently shown on the on-line menu

Yelp
This is THE cocktail bar in Ashland. If you are visiting town and want something a little more upscale and has serious ambiance, then I highly recommend Bar Juillet. Most importantly, the vibe of this spot is FANTASTIC! With the exposed brick, mood lighting, and tasteful decorations, it is a very romantic and trendy date night spot. The cocktails are so delicious as well! Their master bartender is constantly changing up the menu to add unique twists to classic drinks. Their toasted marsh mellow old fashioned is to die for! If you're feeling cheeky, I would recommend ordering the "piggy punch." It changed every week and is served out of a fun pig glass! It is always so cool to see what the drink is each week! Personally, I love just going and sitting at the bar. The space is super lively and you never know who you might run into. The bartenders are so friendly too! Definitely one of my top date night spots!

Beth R.

Yelp
Delightful happy hour! It's fun to sit at the bar, have a drink and share some plates. They give great service with fine attention to detail!

Yelp
Went here for dinner on my birthday. It was a Friday night and it was busy. We managed to score a nice place to sit outside on the balcony overlooking the walkway and creek below. The service and food were both fantastic. We had the petit filet, chicken sugo rigatoni, and the burrata (which was a sweet surprise!). Also, an old fashioned, yum! Everything was great, can't recommend this place highly enough. The staff was truly awesome :-) We'll definitely be back.

Jennifer H.

Yelp
I went here for my last birthday celebration and this place did not disappoint. I loved the ambiance...the fried chicken was on point...and the burrata! Just wow. I'm from Napa, which means I'm hard to impress. It's hard to find restaurants up in this area that are of the caliber I have experienced in the Bay Area and this place definitely on the list.

Tyler H.

Yelp
It's the place that nobody knows how to pronounce. Being in Shakespeare town, it's no wonder that everyone sees "Juliet", when really it's the French word for 'July', pronounced more like 'jou-WHEE-yay". But nobody is reading this review for French language lessons from me, nor should they, so on to the actual review. This is a second restaurant in Ashland for a big-city experienced food industry couple, and I'm happy they have decided to choose our hometown for theirs. Bar Juillet's Cocktail game and bartender staff is grade 'A'. They've consistently had some great people, and they take pride in this part of the experience. Don't overlook the daily special Piggy Punch which comes in a unique serving ceramic pig. I'm not a sweet cocktail person, typically, but for this I make an exception. The place is great for a drink or 2 at the bar. For Appetizers, we've been happy with everything, though we are partial to the olives and burrata. For main menu, some are going to find the selection a bit limited, but what is there is quite outstanding. You are going to hear people shout from the rooftops about their incredible Fried Chicken, and there's a reason for that. It's that beautiful combination of spicy, sweet, crispy and savory that makes it extremely difficult NOT to order. Because their menu is very seasonal based on local sourcing, it's hard to say what else will be there on any given day/week, but that's part of what makes their offerings so great. I've found their service staff engaging and knowledgeable...that's not easy in this day and age, so merits my notice. We'll definitely be returning for drinks, appetizers, and more.

Kathy H.

Yelp
The service was awful. The two servers there last Friday evening were terrible. They took forever to get to us and then when they did finally bring what we wanted to drink...a beer and a water and they were so dismissive with us we couldn't believe it! They waited on several others who arrived after us. The food was mediocre at best. We had a steak dish and a cheeseburger. It was embarrassing how they treated us. We should have just left. We'll never go back.

josh j.

Yelp
this is my third time visiting and I love the modern minimalist vibe...great place for a cocktail. This last visit was a little off....the service came across as somewhat aloof, a little pretentious....I would remind the staff that we can hear and see what they are saying given that the kitchen and bar are totally open to the public eye.... the fried chicken is the star of the show...perfectly balanced flavors, spicy and cool....really well done...best friend chicken I have ever had... I ordered the asparagus, like I did the last two times, but this time it was really off....not steamed, cooked, blanched or poached like the last two times, but served totally raw, cut up into small pieces....needed salt and citrus badly...was very dry and inedible without any flavor. I show pictures below of the last version vs yesterday's version...sadly a waste of $20 please consider adding some pads to your seat chairs and barstools....

kelly v.

Yelp
This is a great new addition to Ashland. The cocktails are great the wait staff and bartenders are very friendly. The fried chicken is our must each time we are there Prices are very reasonable as well Love this place

Joyce K.

Yelp
The good aspect about this dining experience is the food although it came out rather haphazardly and after a 50-minute wait. The fillet Mignon was presented on a rather small plate. The broccoli in tahini and mushroom tart one both good. The bottle of wine was mediocre at best. Should there be less than a decent wine in oregon? Difficult to hear in the dining room. The indifferent service is what really detracts from the dining experience. The previous evening we had dined at an establishment where the service was stellar; this was a glaring contrast.

Sarah S.

Yelp
Amazing clean ambiance- the drinks are fantastic. Tried a little bit of everything and it was all incredible. Best meal Ive had in years.

Ashley W.

Yelp
Ambiance is lovely except when they have live music they need to ensure the amps are turned down sufficient to a place this small. It is often deafening and carrying on a conversation isn't possible. Service is SUPERB! Absolutely superb. As almost everyone else mentioned, their fried chicken is divine, magnificent, unbelievably tender yet with a perfect crispy crunch. Don't miss it! BUT it is served a la carte. If you want anything green with it, you better order a salad or a vegetable they might have on the menu that day. There aren't a lot of choices on the menu. When I was there with friends, I had the Salade Lyonnaise. It was a 3. We shared the chicken, which was a 10. I ordered a Cosmo which arrived looking more like a Kamikaze. Perhaps the bartender forgot to add the cranberry juice. It tasted OK but it wasn't a Cosmo. The band was a perfectly marvelous jazz band that was very talented and they were as much fun to watch as it was to listen to their really great music. Really, really, REALLY talented.

Ann E.

Yelp
Best recommendation I can give is that I've eaten here two nights in a row. I enjoyed the happy hour gin & tonic and BJ Burger on night one, then a glass of chardonnay and scallops on night two. Nice vibe, good service.

Samantha R.

Yelp
Food, service, and the ambiance all simply incredible! Just wow, from start to finish. We even took a whole other round with us, cause we couldn't decide after 1st bite...but we knew this was a special place so we went for it. So perfectly curated for sharing! Don't neglect the amazing cocktails, especially the "piggy punch", a smokey fun and punchy punch, complete in a piggy cup. So cute and elegant at the same time! We will definitely be back. Trust me foodies...you need to go here! It's even worth the drive from Medford!

Nicole C.

Yelp
Service was fantastic! The cocktails were not really my thing, so I ended up with wine. The fried chicken is a must have! I honestly haven't had fried chicken that good since I was in Tennessee. True perfection! The vibe is super fun too. Big fan :)

Steve S.

Yelp
The cocktails and apps were good. That was the extent of their expertise, which as a bar may be appropriate. Caviar toast was done artfully with a nice crispy exterior, contrasted by the chewy center and flavorful caviar spread. The larger entree items were just OK. The burger was heavy, oily, and overly moist. Not palatable past two bites. We also tried the spaghetti with dungeness crab. The noodles were store-bought and the sauce was generically creamy. Will stop by in the future for a drink and enjoy. Will plan on dinner reservations elsewhere.

Madeleine D.

Yelp
Ok Bar Juilett!!! I see you!!! 10/10 experience. Swung by Bar Juilett while visiting southern Oregon for the holidays. Holy moly guacamole talk about YUM! We had 5 people and ordered the following: - Scallop Crudo: Delicious, something I would expect from a fine dining sushi restaurant - Burrata: It's cheese people, yum - Kale Salad: Excellently massaged and dressed! - Fried Chicken: HOLY SH*T IF THERE'S ONE THING YOU ORDER LET THIS BE IT!!!!!!!!!! - Burger: Fantastic, the fries were fresh out the frier and we very seriously considered ordering another batch... We also indulged in some libations and found their dirty vodka martini and .... Shoot can't remember the name but it was basically an old fashioned with grenadine and it was DIVINE. Anyways, can't wait to go back!

Ashlandia O.

Yelp
This is the sister restaurant to the overpriced Hither - a tiny cafe that's tried really hard to pretend it's an elite, pretentiously unbothered cafe serving breakfast entrees like a single egg and 3 asparagus spears over toast for a ridiculous amount; so it's not off track to say the bar Juliet is a hot mess of nothing French except the desire to depart. Where to start? Overpriced tiny drink Sunday brunch? Well okay - but it's all downhill from here. Terrible overworked servers, horrific food (who wrecks chicken and waffles? This place - dirt dry chicken tenders that remind you of cafeteria Sysco and bendy waffling waffles), long wait times and our only consolation was watching the owner throw out an even more horrified and terrible guest. It's was a merde-show. And that's French!

scott c.

Yelp
Wonderful food and great service Beautiful renovations Tastefully done I would add a large communal table in the center for additional seating and to reduce the stark essence The fried chicken always is a winner Drinks are crafted with expertise Definitely recommend for your fine dining in Ashland

Kate H.

Yelp
Another lovely evening at Bar Juillet! We are so grateful for this restaurant with delicious food, incredible service, and a warm and welcoming ambiance...kids menus and crayons alongside oysters, incredible cocktails and house made pastas?! Sign me up! This is a regular stop for our family, and we love seeing familiar faces every time we dine. Thank you Corrie and Wes and the entire BJ crew!

Shannon P.

Yelp
Delicious seasonal food with fresh herbs and spices. Great cocktails and no problem ordering classics off the menu. Attentive service too!

Elise B.

Yelp
We came to Bar Juillet for birthday drinks and it was perfect. The atmosphere was amazing, the staff was friendly, and the drinks were insanely delicious. We sat at the bar and our bartender, Wyatt, was super personable and made our time so much better. It was so good that we went back for a second round after dinner. Would recommend this place to anyone going to Ashland!

Tom C.

Yelp
Drinks were out of this world! So good, so creative! Oysters were fantastic. Highly recommended.

J R.

Yelp
Great good an atmosphere! Went with a friend before a Shakespeare Play. It's within walking distance and we could walk from our air B&B.

J B.

Yelp
I cannot recommend this place enough! Excellent food and service. The portions were large and the ingredients were fresh and so well seasoned. The ambience and vibe were also outstanding. Best meal I've had in years and I live in a CA food Mecca

S L.

Yelp
Food was great. Owner left and service was horrible. We had to let them know a customer was waiting 10 minutes with nobody greeting her. Never cleared our plates or offered to box our food. They really need to step up their service, particularly when the owner is not present.

Chica M.

Yelp
5 star for sure!!! Great ambiance and food is amazing! The vibe was on point and service was exceptional.

Jennifer G.

Yelp
Love Bar Juliet! We moved from Portland last year and love that there are places in Ashland that are on par with dining out in any big city. The owners have done a great job with the ambiance and decor. The lighting is just right, which is so important and often wrong in restaurants! The staff and the owners are amazing. Everyone is so welcoming. Food is great! Some of the best fried chicken and the petit filet is one of the best steaks I've had. The owner is super knowledgeable about wines and the wine list is stellar.

Kimberly K.

Yelp
Enjoyed a lovely jazz brunch with a large group. Delicious cocktails. Amazing jazz trio. We ordered one of several things on the menu and all were outstanding. The fried chicken stood out the most to me. Lovely experience.

Kim C.

Yelp
We had a large group and shared the food so we could all get to taste more variety. Everything we tried was outstanding. Service and cocktails included. Highly recommend this restaurant

Leilani A.

Yelp
A truly unique and amazing brunch experience in our small town. Handcrafted cocktails, beautiful jazz music, fresh seafood and great service. Highly recommended the oysters and smashed potatoes.

Linda T.

Yelp
The food was tasty, but a bit over priced. $26 for a high-end cheese omelette and some fancy greens!?!

Monique R.

Yelp
Yes the fried chicken is the BEST we've ever had-hands down. I'm not sure how they make this but I desperately need to learn the recipe. A++ and we typically never order chicken!

Noelle N.

Yelp
There is something in this menu for everyone! The dishes are seasonal, beautifully prepared & absolutely delicious. Cocktail & wine menu are out of this world. I promise you have never had a better margarita. I love that I can bring my small children here & feel like we are welcome. It's nice to not have to go to a "kid" resturaunt with my kids! When my mom comes to town it's our first stop. The seafood towers at the jazz brunch are out of this world & there is nothing comparable in this valley. Thank you BJ for adding so much pleasure to our town!

Chloe L.

Yelp
Bar Julliet has the atmosphere, service, and delicious food that keeps you coming back. The menu is continuously changing with the seasons and keeping up with what's the most fresh. The ingredients are always sourced locally, if not regionally, reflecting what the PNW has to offer. And If you want a cocktail that's unlike any other... There's everything from the classics, modern twists, to tiki libations that leave you wishing you were on a warm beach somewhere. They are blending flavors, tinctures, and liqueurs like true alchemists. Bar Julliet is the place you go when you want an experience that's unlike anywhere else. It's the place you go on a date- first, casual, or fancy. It's the place you bring your girl-friends and stay too long and too late. It's the place you bring your family and your children who will devour the buttered noodles on the kids menu( did I mention homemade pasta?!) There is no better place and I'm so glad it's here in Ashland!

Rylie S.

Yelp
Bar Juillet is one of a kind!!! Wow- absolutely delicious and creative dishes, unique flavors, and top notch service. A rotating menu with local and seasonal ingredients ensure that every single dish is fresh and thoughtful. The brussel sprouts were the best I've ever had, and the lemon aioli for the fries is heavenly.

heather H.

Yelp
My husband's beer came long before my cocktail appeared. His entree arrived and mine took about another 15 minutes. It's like we were having two separate experiences, which is not the point of a date night. We are local restaurant workers and we would never send things out separately!!!!! Ostras could get away with having things come out whenever because they were tapas, but this was just ridiculous. Chicken was good, but expensive and it didn't come with anything else. I would have appreciated some sides. Server forgot about us and we had to search for her, only to find that she was chitchatting with a customer at the bar. Unacceptable. We won't be back. Also, I left this review on the reservation app with no response from the owners.

Renee W.

Yelp
Wildly disappointing and absurd experience at Bar Juillet. Was recently kicked out of this restaurant during one of their brunch events for reasons I can only attribute were to this owners inflated, yet fragile ego. Bar Juillet claims to be "long on food and wine, and short on pretension." This owner wouldn't know good food if it slapped her. When I voiced my disappointment over her staffs lack of service and the mediocre preparation of our food, I was greeted with immediate defensiveness and shabby excuses for their nearly absent service including a repeated "this is how we do things here," and "well what do you want me to say? I'm not going to comp your bill." I never asked for a discount and didn't plan on it, but for a $300+ brunch, I felt voicing my concerns, some acknowledgement and perhaps an apology, were in order. If this is "good food," the chicken served in my entree died in vain. The added waffle (for an astounding additional $8) was at best a gourmet, overcooked and dry, Eggo. The owner refused to acknowledge my concerns, let alone take any amount of accountability, and instead humiliated herself by throwing herself in front of her waitstaff and charging the front door as I walked out, making what started as a cordial conversation in the back of the restaurant (and could have remained that way), into a huge scene disrupting not only other guests experiences but also the hired entertainment (the only enjoyable part of this entire experience). To make matters worse, our waiter tried to join our conversation and even began to apologize for his role in my poor service experience--unfortunately, this very reasonable and appreciated interaction was cut short by the owners tantrum. If you enjoy mediocrity and absurdity at high prices, Bar Juliet is for you. If you do not like to be fed crap with a brass fork for $32-choose elsewhere for your next dining experience. 10/10 do not recommend even though my table was told to leave but is "welcome to return another time." This entire experience was wildly bizarre. I have never had such a reaction from a restaurant owner, manager or chef while pleading my concerns.

Yelp
Bench seating was about 18" away from the table next to us on each side, so no intimate conversations is possible. Food was so rich that I pooped 7 times the next day. I do not eat chicken so the server said we could order the kids pasta rigatoni as it didn't come with chicken. Our dish arrived with chicken and the server never checked back on us. Waited about 30 minutes for the bill. My wife had to flag them down by waiving her napkin to get our bill. Never again!

Yelp
got to the restaurant at 4:15 PM and made it in time for the happy hour. Young man served me an outstanding drink, my friends also had very good drinks. As business picked up over the course of the next hour, our service didn't. The food was spectacular, the fried chicken superb. Had to flag the bartender down for another round of drinks for our table and our dirty dishes sat in front of us with no room to put the drinks down. If the employees spent the same amount of time watching their customers as they do standing around at the end of the bar by the pass-through gabbing, service might be different. Good food can sometimes cover for mediocre service but, this time it didn't work.

Yelp
Fried chicken was amazing!! Highly recommend. Food was fresh and hot. Old fashion was great and the detailing of the ice was a nice touch. My first lemon drop was delicious but then they switched bartenders for a short period of time and my second lemon drop was horrible. It was so sour, I just left the whole drink. The girl that was making it seemed to have been struggling.. Atmosphere and the rest of the service was fantastic

Yelp
Favorite place to take friends, favorite place to take my family...including my young children, they're always so accommodating! The menu is always changing so we go all the time. So glad we have it here in Ashland!

Yelp
Just had date night.... The location is nice (on the plaza) but pretty simple on the inside, it seems to be kind of loud inside.... Service was great.. nice, accommodating, and quick service.. food overall was good but very simple..
