It’s a small, elegant bar located in a hotel lobby. Most people come here for drinks. You can’t make a reservation — it’s strictly first-come, first-served — although we had no problem getting a table on a Saturday evening.
Service is friendly, but not particularly quick and not very professional.
Bison tartare with roasted bone marrow
The dish is served in a large bone, but the amount of chopped bison meat is noticeably smaller than in a standard beef tartare. That said, the roasted bone marrow creates an interesting texture contrast with the meat, and when combined with grilled baguette, the result is genuinely excellent. The dish is quite spicy (horseradish), but very enjoyable.
Garden Sonata salad with grilled salmon
The salad had an excellent combination of fresh greens, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and crispy pieces of candied walnuts. The salmon was grilled perfectly.
Steak frites classique
The steak was cooked to a proper medium-rare, but it wasn’t tender enough, likely due to a far-from-ideal cut of beef. In addition, the steak had a slightly bitter taste, which further detracted from the dish.
Petite pâtisserie selection
A chef’s selection of small complimentary desserts — I’m not sure if the assortment changes daily. The mango mousse was very good, the Opera-style cake was quite good, while the Turkish-inspired pistachio cake was mediocre.
The Americano was weak.
Conclusion: I cannot recommend the place overall, although the bison tartare and the salad with grilled salmon were genuinely interesting and enjoyable dishes.
