Five Places Worth Trying This Weekend - Eater Denver

"Socializing is encouraged over twists on classic cocktails, a selection of boutique spirits, wine, and beer. Under the cocktail category “Shaken,” is the Beat Poet, with Irish whiskey, coffee liqueur, cream, and bitters. The “Spice” selection includes a Bloody Madison, complete with vodka, caper berry, sriracha, and lemon." - Gigi Sukin

Such a cute bar! Cocktails were delicious, service was spectacular. Highly recommend the violet femme and a shot-tail! I will most definitely be coming back.

Google
Super dope place with relaxed vibe. Real candle light on the table. Good music. The fancy grilled cheese with prosciutto was bombbb and delicious. The owner is super tight. Each drink has its own style of glass. The gin and tonic was superb. The widows kiss was not on the menu but they can whip up what you desire. My friend loves the spicy drink section. The latest happy hour around until 7pm on every day they’re open (Thursday/Friday/Saturday). If you love plants 🌱 get here cuz they’d love your love. There is also a very unique cool toy on every table!!! Come here.

Bar Max was a really cool bar we stopped into after grabbing tacos one night. I loved all the plants around! Kept it feeling cozy. They had large variety of nonalcoholic cocktails which was nice. Not something a lot of places have. I had a regular margarita, & it was pretty good! My friend had the lavender menace. It was similar to a lavender lemonade. She loved it! Staff was great & attentive. They had some cool little games on all the tables which was unique.

Google
We loved the vibe of Bar Max: their innovative cocktails (the mellow monk!), cool decor with a decidedly progressive slant and delicious food (the fancy grilled cheese) were all perfect. 10/10 recommend.

Google
Had an awesome time! The custom cocktail system makes it easy and fun to create a unique (and delicious) drink. A great spot for anyone, but especially if you're a cocktail nerd.

I guess this is a bar or is it an escape into an abyss of chill vibes...Eclectic seating and design helps make you forget what's outside the doors you came in from. Staff are so diligent and observant it's as if they my long lost friend trying to reconnect our old fun bonds. Biggest array of possible cocktails in one location and they, yes they are also as delicious as they look. We both got two tequila creations one made up by the bartender and another on the menu. "The mellow monk" is a delicious upgrade of the classic Mexican mule. Light on the ginger beer and heavy on the flavor. Definitely a must try. If you're looking for a spicy tequila cocktail with a tasteful burn and exotic presentation show them the picture below because I never got a name for it. Didn't come for the food but others seemed to enjoy. In summary, this is that modern "70s show" basement hangout (minus the smoke), add the happy feels and available playful games and tunes to make this the place to come kick it with old and new friends! *Moms and dads welcome*

The atmosphere is fantastic and the owner took his time to get to know us and really invest in conversation! Also home to some of the best mocktails I have ever tried!

Google
Super fun spot with a playful vibe of creating flavorful drinks with personal flair and/or trying the superb BarMax favorites. Meet your friends and play games whilst sipping a summery Lavender Bees Knees. The immediately cozy bar has a friendly and lovely staff, including the owner, Marshall, who made sure all was just right in our drink selection. Highly recommend.

Yelp
One of my new favorite bars on Colfax! Came here for weekday happy hour (4-7pm) before dinner reservations at Sap Sua down the street. Bar Max has some of the BEST customer service around! I felt so taken care of, including a proactive fix of a wobbly high top table. Shout-out to Marshall! I only ordered off the happy hour menu ($8 gimlet) this time but want to try more cocktails - especially the savory ones - in the future. I love how the menu is laid out and organized by cocktail vibe. The bar is just so cute too! Colfax often has difficult parking but it's totally worth the journey.

Yelp
Bar Max is max on the fun and the selection of cocktails specializing in gin, Mezcal, and Japanese whiskey. With eclectic decor from giant lava lamps to an old phone booth, and a super cool mural of 'Le Petit Dauphinois' above the bar, Bar Max is a great place to sit and hang out. Bartenders are friendly and you may even get to chat it up with the owner. Cocktails are excellent. I enjoyed my time so much, I had a sampling of several. The Gloaming was a fun mix of mezcal and root beer. El Jefe was a chilled mule with tequila, lime, and ginger beer. My favorite was the winter cocktail , Cuffing Season. A smoky yet smooth blend of mezcal, cranberry, rosemary, and allspice. My bestie and I even played a round of the board game, Stupid Ways to Die, as we enjoyed our cocktails and olives. There are multiple options from the happy hour menu (which runs from 4-7pm), the seasonal cocktail menu, and the regular drink menu that includes cocktails, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic cocktails. Bar Max serves spirits that support Colorado businesses, BIPOC, LBQTQ+, &/or Female owned/operated. Not to max out on their generosity, Bar Max also provides $3 discounts on wine & cocktails to educators, healthcare workers, and artists. Definitely a place to stop in and support if you are on East Colfax Wednesday through Sunday.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Who doesn't love a place that offers an educator discount?!We went right at opening (4pm) on a Thursday and had the place to ourselves for a good hour. The owner and server were so much fun to hang out with. Bar Max serves up great cocktails-all crafted based on the particular season. I selected the Winter-Barely Knew Her shot. This was a tasty little toddy that warmed me right up. Sweet but with a kick- just like me ! I also tried their Bloody Betty- their take on a Bloody Mary. This was divine and exactly what the Thursday afternoon called for. While not a fan of capers, the way this drink was crafted, the capers did not get in my way of enjoying the drink. The interior of Bar Max is very trendy. From the eclectic art (which can be purchased), to the plants, and mural adorning the bar wall, it is just really well done. The owners also selected the best bar stools ever! If you're short like me, bar stools are not always fun. The furniture choice was 100/10 for me! I can see why Bar Max made Westword's 100 Bars you can't live without for 2024-2025! Will be back!! Thank you for such a fun Thursday afternoon, Bar Max!

Yelp
Super fun bar! I found it while looking for a place to hang out before a late reservation and I am so glad I did! The vibe was trendy without being pretentious and all of the bartenders were super nice and knowledgeable. Their cocktails were all well crafted, well balanced and delicious We even got a drink from the wheel and that was super fun to do. I will def be back again soon!

Yelp
I absolutely love this establishment! Have been a few times now and the staff is always so friendly. The drinks are well crafted and they do custom cocktails as well which is so fun. I was able to create a fall cocktail when they weren't in season yet. They also let you name the cocktail if it's new. The plants all around are so inviting and they have games to play.

Yelp
Great bar with a solid happy hour until 7 PM. My party enjoyed the Razzmatazz cocktails, and the staff were super friendly. Such a great spot to go to after dinner. Love the plant decor inside too -- made for great ambiance .

Yelp
The skinny: absolutely unique delicious cocktails The overview: I don't normally write reviews for just drinks - but man was I impressed with this place. Stopped by on a whim while in the area and am so glad we did. Fun bright decor with plants and little fidget toys. An extensive cocktail list broken down in categories to help you pick what you're in the mood for. Everything we got was amazing. Perfectly balanced portions that really brought out each unique flavor without overpowering each other. My favorite was the el Jardin - get it if you're looking for something with a little kick (but not too spicy). If you want something off the menu and unique - check out the color wheel where you pick a few different flavors and the bartenders make something new for you. They were great about asking different questions to make sure you would like the drink - a unique and fun experience! Would I come back: Yes! I'm not often in this neighborhood but now I have a reason to!

Yelp
Popped in for happy hour -- great team running the place with yummy snacks and good beers! Didn't try any cocktails but they looked delicious.

Yelp
I really love the vibe of this bar. My go to drink is the Kyoto and I love the grilled cheese. The service is spot on. I highly recommend!

Yelp
Excellent bar! Highly recommend. We didn't Japanese whiskey flights and several other cocktails, including my favorite, a paper plane but with mezcal instead of bourbon .

Yelp
I never knew this place existed until my friend brought me here a month or so ago. The space is really cozy with nice lighting and lots of art and plants. The cocktail list is organized in a way that makes it easy to order a drink you know you will like, and if you don't know what you'd like, do not hesitate to ask Marshall who is a wealth of cocktail knowledge. Didn't try any of the snacks when I was there, but the group next to me did and they looked delicious. Will be back for a relaxed evening with tasty drinks. Bonus points to Bar Max for believing in science!

Jeff S.

Yelp
Outstanding service with helpful cocktail knowledge. Drinks were delish, comfortable setting and great music

Yelp
Fantastic! Love the vibe and energy of this place! Exceptional happy hour offerings 4:30pm - 7pm currently Friday and Saturday! Vaccinated? Fabulous! Show your vaccination card along with your ID and you can sit inside! Not yet fully vaccinated? That also works! Have outdoor seating available! Definitely get the grilled cheese special.

Yelp
I came here last night around 1030pm and was recommended by a good friend who lives in town. First impression, and literally what I said upon walking in "I am feeling this place." There wasn't a whole lot of people inside which is fine I am not a fan of crowded places. We were given the option to choose a table and we went with the bigger table by the bar that sat 6 people. I liked seeing plants and a video on the wall via the screen projector. My go to cocktail is the Vieux Carre and the bartender knew how to make it, which I say is always a pleasant surprise because my experience in going to bars some bartenders don't know how to make my cocktail. I like the ambiance and experience. The bartender Marshall was very attentitive and friendly to our group. Jenny the server, who she admittedly to our group was new to the bar, was also very nice and helpful. I said that the bar reminds me of going to someone's apartment. I also noticed an old telephone booth and typewriter at the end of the bar. Long story short I am feeling this bar, the cocktails were great, service spot on, and thus I would make a return visit.

Yelp
Cute, small bar on Colfax. East to miss but worth a stop in. Staff was very accommodating and we liked our drinks!

Yelp
BarMax is my favorite place in Denver for a great cocktail and a little getaway. It's a chill and artsy atmosphere with a mini library, games and conversation starters, and a plant sanctuary. They create CUSTOM COCKTAILS?! They will make you a 1 of 1 specialty drink if you give them 3 flavors to work with. They always have amazing food, great music, and kind, helpful staff. I love that they try to make you feel at home! Perfect for a date night, group meet up, or anything else in between. Love this place!

Yelp
I usually hate when people describe a place as sexy. But Bar Max is sexy. And swanky. And very fashionable. Love the spare decor, the mural above the bar, the vintage bar angled just so for Instagrammability. Oh, and the drinks are really good. We enjoyed an old fashioned as a good test of a new bar. It was well balanced. The ginger baker, a house cocktail, was a spiced drink that was just my style (and as a bonus it bears the name of a dear friend who is not the drummer from Cream). Bar staff are friendly and do their job well. They make good drinks and make sure the mood is right with lighting, just the right amount of small talk, music, and prompt service. We share a cheese plate, soaked up the atmosphere, and headed out into the night, satisifed that we'd found a great neighborhood cocktail spot.

Heather M.

Yelp
Great cocktails & staff!! Tons of unique liquor choices. Marshall is the best bartender in Denver
google avatar

Jules V.

Yelp
The bar is tucked into a small strip mall and would be easy to miss driving by. There was not much room inside and it was (unfortunately) filled with pretentious hipster types. Must be a "locals only" type place but I would expect this kind of attitude in SoCal not when visiting Denver. Seems they are trying a *bit* to hard to be like LA trendies in here which is funny because the strip mall and bar are kind of old/run down. I tried a "beat poet" drink which was nothing special and between the vibe and staff decided we'd seen enough. There are too many other great bars in the area that aren't trying to emulate the uber trendy LA thing from 10 years ago and have a more welcoming "Denver" feel. Won't be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Rumor has it that Bar Max is closing or being sold and I'm pretty sad about it. This cute little oasis is the perfect spot for a casual date or an intimate night out with friends. The cocktails are delicious and the charcuterie is on point. I really enjoyed the charcuterie and the service was too notch. The menu has changed since years past but and is simple and straightforward. My old fashioned totally hit the spot. I hope this spot stays put!
google avatar

Abby S.

Yelp
Mood lighting. Old black and white films projected on the wall. The smell of fresh cookies (or maybe it's chocolate) in the air. Every kind of liquor and liqueur one might imagine. Cheese plates. The fanciest bathrooms in all of Denver. Yep, Bar Max has all of these things and more. It's kind of the perfect before or after dinner drink place. Aaaaand if word on the street is true, they're closing soon. Why?????? Instead of bemoaning, let's celebrate Bar Max as long as possible. Get some while the gettin's good. One last hurrah. Last call. Go support a local bar that makes creative cocktails and has all the vibes. Whether it's your first or your final experience, it's definitely a Denver original.
google avatar

Shannon H.

Yelp
Not only is the food fantastic and the atmosphere beautiful, but the management isn't afraid to immediately remove 'customers' who don't know how to behave properly and in doing so, put others at risk. Two thumbs up!
google avatar

Michell D.

Yelp
Love it here, reminds me of West Hollywood vibes-- Good drinks, good music, good people--definitely come by for their happy hour. I enjoy their charcuterie and cheese board, get the burrata option, it's a nice touch to your time there. Complement it with a gimlet, you're sure to enjoy it, too. Living in City Park has it's unique charm, and Bar Max is a staple.
google avatar

Megan R.

Yelp
Bar Max is still as solid and lovely as ever. I sometimes forget about this place and how much I dig it! Was back here last night with a group of five--service, food, and drinks were all wonderful. It was fairly busy as happy hour was just winding down, but we were able to snag a table and a couple extra chairs do accommodate the group. Bar Max is fairly small and narrow, but something about the decor here makes it feel really nice and open. We split a couple of bottles of Albariño at the table and I had a glass of the Oregon Wine Co Pinot Noir as well. The wine by the bottle is a good deal if you're with a group, as it averages out to about $6 a glass (even without happy hour). Get the Mediterranean plate to share as well--the carrots and hummus were really yummy. They keep things simple and high quality when it comes to food here--grilled cheeses, charcuterie boards, fancy popcorn, and a plate with three strips of bacon are all on their munchies menu.

Yelp
Great location to relax and have a cocktail conversation combo. Also good for solo pondering or getting some unfinished work done with a small bite to eat and again a cocktail . Very refreshing inside with great friendly service and cozy seating. I'm seeing for cocktail spots like this that are open and bright like a house rather than the dark bar vibe. You don't feel so bad having a cocktail during the day. Guilt free outing. Check it out! Great mixology
google avatar

Yelp
Came to this cute little tucked away bar was for happy hour. Service was excellent and the vibe was very intimate. The grilled cheese tasted amazing. Great place.

Yelp
Amazing cocktails, aesthetic, and service! They set the mood just right and their menu is very large and explorative. Definitely worth a drink when you want to celebrate an occasion or just treat yourself. Music was great and definitely a high-end cocktail bar. The bartenders we're very helpful and I'm certain there is not a single bad drink on the menu.

Shawna G.

Yelp
Love this place! Aesthetics are super cool with all the plants and decor. Bartenders are awesome when you want to order off menu :) It's the safest I've felt indoors for over a year. Thanks Bar Max for believing in science!!!

Yelp
I love the ambience here. Cozy, nice variety of furniture and interesting decorations. Generous happy hour from 4-7pm on a Tuesday when I was there. I loved their prosecco and the sangria. Get the Brie panini sandwich. It was delicious! Friendly, prompt service. Payment was handled via iPad, which was convenient as I was with a large group and we had to pay and leave quickly. Glad I discovered this place!

Yelp
This past Friday someone told me about Cafe Max and I knew I needed to come check it out ASAP. This afternoon I popped in for a very late lunch. The space is uber trendy, sleek and modern. The best part was the customer service. So fantastic and not snooty like so many coffee shops. The gentleman asked me if I was staying to eat and then led me to a table, brought a jar of water with a self filtering piece of charcoal at the bottom and a menu. I opted for the prosciutto, Brie and fig panini and a white tea blossom tea. I was served an enormous pot of tea first. Delicate, light and perfect for my allergy irritated throat. Next up was the panini. Salty ham with assertive Brie rounded out with sweet fig preserves and a side salad of mixed greens and kale. For a to go treat, I left with two bourbon chocolate truffles which were totally decadent. Cafe Max takes customer service to a whole new level and I am so happy this is five minutes from work!
google avatar

Yelp
(This is an actual review from an actual customer.) Bar Max is a hidden gem! Great drinks and atmosphere in a nicely decorated space served by people who care about what they're doing. Perfect place to relax and have a chat.

Yelp
It's so nice to be back in my favorite bar in Denver! I love the sophisticated, chill vibe of this place. Welcoming and tasty as always.

Becky S.

Yelp
Cozy, intimate bar with excellent cocktails. Marshall is a cocktail genius - couldn't recommend more. Will be back soon!
google avatar

Jaime K.

Yelp
This place reminds me of a bar/cafe I visited in Montreal, and I absolutely love it! When my bf and I walked in at 5:30 on a Tuesday, it was empty, which I like. The bartender, Scott, was very friendly and helpful in letting me taste the Malbec before choosing that as my drink. I was also a bit hangry and he suggested we try the cheese board and add prosciutto. It was presented on a beautiful board with nuts and dried fruits. We were only planning on staying for one drink but had such a fun conversation with the barman that we opted to stay for round two. We definitely will be back and are happy that we found this place!

Yelp
Hello gorgeous. Impeccable service, refined and approachable. Excellent happy hour. It's a place to ponder, join friends and meet new acquaintances. To be specific, wonderful vibe and a locale to which I'll surely return. Thanks Bar Max.
google avatar

Kendall S.

Yelp
Bar Max is the coziest. It looks like a European coffee shop (they do have coffee), and they serve classic cocktails, feature a pretty great wine list, and have sandwiches, small plates, and gourmet desserts. The word "quaint" is overused, but Bar Max really is quaint in the best way possible. It's quiet and little and has that hole-in-the-wall aura. The staff is knowledgable and warm; you can expect quality customer service that's still casual and relaxed. I've had the tomato soup and the caprese salad here. Both were a perfect portion size and tasted fresh. I've also had some truffles... what's better than super rich and velvety dark chocolate with a glass of red wine? Very few things. You'll see all kinds of people of all ages enjoying this bar. It's comfortable and welcoming; a great place to lounge and chat and eat, drink, and be merry.
google avatar

Jamie B.

Yelp
Super cool joint. Very LA vibe. Fashion show playing on the projector, well crafted cocktails, nice beer and wine selection and small bites. The bartenders were a little overwhelmed when we first arrived but made some solid drinks so I cannot deduct a star based on our wait for drinks. Will definitely return when looking for something a little more chill and refined. 5 stars.

Yelp
FROTHY ALMOND MILK! I like my coffee black and my milk frothy. Seriously 2% milk never cost more but was never more enjoyable than here!! Much froth. Very joy. So wow. No caffeine, no coffee, just straight up MILK. I came here on a Friday night for some solace. I found much peace and comfort here with this milk and their banana bread pudding french toast (breakfast served all day). Let me confide in you Yelper. I was at St. Mark's earlier and got a $2 cup of joe. Yes that's cheap and yes they give you a good amount but it's 50 degrees outside and their garage wall was open. I'm from CA. Fifty degrees is not what I call open window weather. It was not at all comforting me in my time of sorrow. So i came straight here afterward. I found peace. I found solitude. And boy does this dim lighting and candles everywhere sure make the environment swanky, moody, sad, jazzy, and cloud-like yet happy (I don't know how much sense I am making). This sweet frothy milk with almond syrup in it reminds me of when my grandpa used to make me warm milk with a spoon of condensed milk. You can get lavender, hazelnut or vanilla syrup as well. And this black and white film projected on their wall aside from me reminds me of Foreign Cinema in SF. If i could own a loft and decorate it it would look like Cafe Max mixed with Thump Coffee. Aesthetics is over 50% of of the gastronomic experience. This is why paying the extra cost for the aesthetics and environment is absolutely OK with me.

Yelp
I ordered a Dewars neat and the bartender literally laughed in my face saying he'd not heard anyone order a Dewars ever. Really? I guess douchy overpriced cocktails are his specialty. Won't be back.

Yelp
Bar max creates masterful cocktails and food within a beautiful setting. It's long been one of our favorite places to go for an early drink and a bite. Their attention to details and amazing knowledge of liquor and cocktails and open spirit makes it feel timeless and like a brief vacation.

Yelp
Ugh, when Café Max became Bar Max, they totally lost me. It still looks exactly the same inside, which is to say, it looks like a coffee shop. But the menu is much different now - an okay selection of drinks, mostly the same food, but they basically got rid of their coffee drinks. They also stopped serving non-dairy milk (which, in 2017, is kind of ridiculous). But none of this would've been a big issue had the service been friendlier. I stopped in here a few days ago for the first time after the concept changed. As I tried to navigate the new menu, I was met with the most indifferent, borderline rude, condescending service. This place used to be a lil' pretentious, but now it's full-blown awful. Unless you want Anna Wintour to serve you drinks, go somewhere else.
google avatar

Sarah W.

Yelp
Sophisticated, cool and relaxed bar a block from Tattered Cover & Sie Film Center. It has everything we wanted in a local watering hole with an just-long-enough drink menu and a couple of appetizers that fit the bill. Atmospheric music like Zero 7 made us want to stay all night. Worth finding, worth staying.

Yelp
+ Atmosphere: Modern and sleek is how I would describe it. Sharp and simple decor, great place to get some work done, and catchy music in the background. Not too shabby. + Menu: They offer a variety of items that go beyond coffee. Food, dessert, wine. They offer almond, soy, and goat's milk for their espresso drinks which I find very intriguing. The menu is pretty simple but you can specialize your own drink if you don't see anything appealing. + Service: The man and woman working there (the owners I presume) seemed super chill and they served my drinks and food in a very timely manner. No complaints there. + Presentation: Fancy. + Parking: There's meter parking on the street in front, but if you prefer you can just pull into one of the neighborhood areas closeby and park on those streets for free. I only had to walk a block so it wasn't bad at all. I'll admit when I first walked in I wasn't very impressed with the place--it was empty, very modern and almost "stiff". I'm definitely more of a "warm and cozy" kind of girl when it comes to coffee shops and cafes, and when I saw there weren't any comfy couches I was a little disappointed. However, I quickly shrugged it off and took a look at the menu. I was intrigued by the variety of choices, everything from espresso and wine to lunch and dessert. I wanted an iced drink but there weren't any listed, so I asked the woman working if she could make me something sweet and cold, and she offered to make an iced caramel latte. I also ordered a Cafe Con Leche, and a couple of the Petit Fours they had on display (along with various other desserts). Shortly after (very timely service!) they served my drinks and dessert. I was pleasantly surprised at how fancy everything looked. They serve the espresso in a separate glass from the milk (which was perfectly foamed by the way) and brown sugar cubes. The iced Latte was served unstirred. The cakes were served on a plate with cute little spoons. Sleek presentation that went along with the atmosphere well. I loved it. Pouring the espresso into the cup myself was fun. The Cafe Con Leche had a pleasant salty taste and the espresso had an amazing flavor. Not bitter at all. Personally, I think the drink had too much milk. A little less would have been better. The iced latte was perfect though. One of the best I've ever had! Lovely roasty flavor and perfectly sweet. The Petit Fours were mouth wateringly delicious, soft, and gluten free. Overall I was pleased! Even though I initially thought this place wasn't my style I would totally go again and bring friends or a date.

Yelp
Full disclosure: I visited Cafe Max "for the sake of research". I no longer consider myself a coffee drinker, but I still really love coffee. So I "got Dave a latte" because really, I just wanted to taste it. I first saw this place on Thrillist and wondered why I had never heard of it before. I promptly looked it up on Yelp and saw they have goat milk as an offering. What? Because I love goat cheese, surely I would love the milk. And it turns out I do. I ordered a Bhakti Chai latte (with goat milk) as well as a latte for Dave for me to try (with goat milk). These drinks are a bit more on the spendy side clocking in at about $10 for two small drinks (probably because goat milk is more elusive). I'd say they were fully worth it though. The earthy tang that I love so much from goat cheese was present and the milk provided a rich-and-creamy companion to the espresso (or chai, in my case). The espresso itself (and forgive me if my coffee tastebuds are a bit rusty) could hold its own against Crema and Happy. The space itself is hip but somewhat cold. Add that to the fact that there was NO ONE in there on a Saturday morning. I think this is really a shame and I blame it on the location. While a pretty main intersection (Colfax and Josephine), there is definitely not the foot traffic you'd find at Happy or the bike traffic you'd find at Crema. Parking is also primarily metered along Colfax unless you go down a side street. So it's not a terribly convenient spot for a coffee shop.

Yelp
We needed a cafe like Cafe Max in Denver: European-style, reminiscent of cafes in SF or NYC, depending on where you've been. Disclaimer: I have become good friends with the owners, Yuki and Max. They are both so easy to talk with; most of the time, Max is running the cafe with a few other helpers. Max is approachable and so very kind. If you have questions about any of the menu items, he'll help you out. The menu is simple, but Max and Yuki said that's what they want to keep doing with the cafe. Don't expect heavy foods or only pastries here: have some brie with baguette and fig spread instead! Prices: great value for what you DO get. Portions may appear "small", but I say the portions are just right. I've had the Prosciutto/Brie sandwich, which is unique and so tasteful. Happy Hour from 5-7pm. Wine/Beer. Fun furniture and wifi is available. Great for small groups: I have my #startupfireside group here twice a month (8 attendees max). Location: SO convenient to my place! And I like how Cafe Max sticks out as an unusual (but well needed) storefront on Colfax/Josephine. Hopefully in the summer there will be a patio to enjoy!

Yelp
LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! After being very disappointed by the latte at the botanic garden, I was determined to have a cup of good coffee before I leave Denver. So 1 hour before our departure time, we managed to find this stylish and chic place with awesome owners. I love how they combined ideas from Japan and NY and created this cool little place in Denver. Love their goat milk latte! You have to try it if you like goat milk. This little place put a sweet ending to my first time trip in Denver, Colorado.

Yelp
Wonderful, serene cocktail bar with nice noshing options. Fantastic quality cocktails, and happy hour talk. The owner, Marshall, takes great care to ensure that everything is top notch, and it shows. We had the house made hummus vegetable plate, which was delish! We are going to make Bar Max our happy hour go to!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places to get chai tea. The chai here is spicy and not too sweet, and it goes well with their desserts. When I went, the pie of the day was a berry flavored one, which was very yummy. The crust was flaky and buttery and the amount of filling was the perfect proportion to the crust. Make sure to ask for whip cream with the pie, because it definitely adds an extra creaminess to the pie. I really like this location and the atmosphere of the shop. It's good for studying or just relaxing. They have books to read if you want and an outdoor area which is nice during the summer.
