The 14 Best Bars In Amsterdam - Amsterdam - The Infatuation

"Named after the Yiddish moniker for Amsterdam, this cocktail bar dedicated to Dutch culture serves twists on classics with local slang as names (to maintain a modicum of politeness, we aren’t gonna translate them). The steep staircase where you enter from the street gets backed up with out-of-towners looking for a vibe, so make sure to reserve a seat in advance. We like the vermillion Red Light District section towards the back, but you can also try your luck at the far end of the bar. You’ll only get some olives and nuts, so either come here before a quieter dinner further in De Pijp, or afterward for a digestif." - paolo espanola

Bar Mokum feels like one of those places you’re glad you found by chance. The decoration is warm and stylish without trying too hard, and the speakeasy vibe makes it feel intimate and a bit secret, like a hidden basement hangout done right. Add to that a great music selection that sets the mood perfectly, and you instantly want to stay for more than one round. The cocktails are a real highlight: well-balanced, creative, and clearly made by people who know what they’re doing. Whether you’re into classics or something more playful, every drink feels carefully crafted. It’s an easygoing spot with great energy, perfect for starting the night or settling in and letting it unfold.

Great drinks and atmosphere, very hidden and private. Amazing services and great signature drinks but also offer off the menu drinks.

A real hidden gem! The cocktails are delicious, and the staff is extremely friendly. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate — a great place to enjoy a pleasant and relaxing evening. You have to go downstairs to enter the bar.

Just a great place all together. Very good cocktails with a very friendly people working there and an absolutely delightful atmosphere. It’s one of my favorite cocktail bars in Amsterdam and a one that I frequent to. You can’t go wrong with whatever you order. But my favorites are the Graftak and Gleuvenrijder. Edit 2025: Shout out to Pedro for making us awesome cocktails!

I’m honestly still shocked. This was one of the worst hospitality experiences I’ve ever had. The cocktails were great, but I have never encountered service like this before. The staff, especially the cocktail shaker/waiter, was incredibly rude. His attitude was openly hostile, and he kept saying things like “Jesus, what…” and “Jesus, this…” while taking our order. It felt extremely unprofessional and uncomfortable. It wasn’t just us.. The people in front of us in the queue also commented on how rude he was, and they actually left without ordering anything. I found it absolutely astonishing that a bar like yours has staff behaving this way. It’s such a shame, because the drinks themselves were genuinely good. I work in food marketing, attend many events, and write about hospitality experiences all the time.. But I have never encountered anything like this. Really disappointing.
