Bar One Baltimore has left much to be desired for fifteen guests attending a private birthday gathering and me, especially since having made a reservation several weeks in advance for a party of sixteen. Although upon Booking the reservation, we all were under the impression this would be a fine dining, upscale experience. The expectations of our entourage erroneously assumed that we would have an atmosphere filled with good vibes, excellent service, food to die for, and bottomless cocktails.
Upon entry into the establishment, smiles, muffled soul music, and visually stimulating art infused with zone-colored lighting instantly lured you in for an embrace to say, welcome to Bar ONE. We were all taken aback by how thin the crowd was at 730pm on a Saturday night. That truly only being an afterthought because we all, unfortunately, had to wait nearly 20+ minutes in the lounge area after being informed that the establishment had accidentally given our tables in the dining area away to another large party. Issue: An ETA courtesy call was made 10 minutes before arriving at the door; a staff member had noted that the space was ready to be occupied by our party.
Walking through a well-lit and broad-shouldered wide breezeway, we finally reach our destination for the evening. All sixteen of us quickly scurried into the space as if playing musical chairs for the desired location at the table. It was hard not to notice that the area gave off a vibe that resembled a large, unusually lit, contemporary formal dining room with mediocre décor.
The verdict for this night out with friends and family at Bar One Baltimore concludes after spending nearly three grand for a party of Sixteen, which included but, is not limited to an array of cocktails ranging from a Manhattan down to a Lemon drop. Appetizers, some of which were delicious enough that several servings had been ordered, included The Grouper bites, Fried Atlantic salmon bites, scallops, sautéed Broccolini, and Truffle fries, to name a few. Main entrees, such as the Jamaican Oxtail Dumpling stew, Whole fried Snapper, and Caribbean Lamb Chops, were all consumed without complaint nor compliment.
Now for things to consider and not at all good; the vegan or vegetarian options were not so plentiful and left limited choices that did not impress. Main entrees like the NY strip and the Whole grilled Branzino were overcooked and not good. Another eye-opener was that although we made clear how many people were attending our party, the establishment did not have nearly as many staff to accommodate our party. Food was brought out from the back like a dripping faucet, leading to no more than 5 or 6 of us eating at once. The drinks were also slow to the table and seemed rushed in preparation to only taste familiar with what was requested but not on point to the ask. Finally, a personal deal breaker and the end of no return was that they did not have coffee to go with two low-quality offered baked goods: the Rum cake and the Red Velvet cake.
Bar One Baltimore should be considered a place to consider if you are meeting co-workers for drinks, a date night for old flames, or a place to meet others for decent conversation and cocktails. I would suggest no more than five people total for your party. In closing, the promoted visuals online of this being a possible fine dining or upscale establishment are proper, only if you had left the likes of a Prominent family restaurant chain of your choice. Thank you for listening, and please take your time when considering a place to impress those you love and care about and want to have something to speak about for years to come.
