Atlanta Restaurant Openings, September 2025 | Eater Atlanta

"A new venture from Chris and Ashley Wilkins, formerly of Root Baking Co. (the Ponce City Market bakery closed in 2022), this restaurant opened quietly back in April and brings an intimate neighborhood feel to Covington. Worth the 45-minute drive from the city for the handmade pastas, cocktails, wine, and more. Bar Oscar is walk-ins only." - Allison Ramirez

This was such a fun experience. With a menu that changes weekly, you’ll never get bored on a repeat visit. Fabulous wine choices and tapas style food service make this a great place to spend an evening visiting your favorite people while trying new dishes. Oh! And the homemade pasta? Yum. Please note that each dish served is very small. It is a taste and not a full entree. If you are looking for a large plate of food, this isn’t for you. We ordered 2 glasses of wine and about 5 choices from the menu, which were brought out one at a time, plus the amazing tiramisu for desert and our total was about $125 with tip. Great atmosphere and love the outdoor space for chilling on the weekend. We will definitely be back!

Cool space, great food and drinks...prices are very reasonable for food of this quality. Handmade pastas, breads and cheeses. Best meal I've had in the area in years. Shout out to Reese & Anthony at the bar 🍸 👏...excellent bartenders. The tirramasu is a shareable delight.

Beautiful patio, warm focaccia bread to start, and some of the best service I’ve had in a long time (shoutout to Ivan!). The Cuban daiquiri was delicious, the burrata was creamy and fresh, and the duck-fat fried tots with roe was an elevated experience from the usual tater tot. The server said they had the best Tiramisu and that I wouldn’t want to go anywhere else…. He was so right! Loved that the menu changes weekly. Can’t wait to come back to see what’s new!

The service was great. My waitress was patient and kind. The food too forever to come out. If you like a variety of food this is not the place. Menu has limited items

This little restaurant had some of the best food I've ever had. The focaccia bread was the best bread ever, it was so unbelievably soft and fluffy... absolutely addicting! I had the parmesan pasta, the pasta was freshly handmade and covered in genuine aged Parmesan and melted butter...my absolute favorite. You can literally see them cutting the pasta fresh right before they bring the dish out to you. the servers were a tad late in serving us, we were given free handmade meatballs and a free gelato flight to make up for it. Absolutely incredible first anniversary date experience, can't recommend enough! On our second visit, we received a free order of the special appetizer, gnocco fritto (fried bread dough). We also got the special wagyu carpaccio app and chanterelle mushroom cream pasta entree.

We had the BEST food, drinks and service! Our sweet server was so informative and made great suggestions. I was worried it was just small plates and my husband might not have enough but wow we were so wrong. They have entree sizes too so we mixed up small plates with our entree which consisted of homemade pastas and delicious meatballs. They started off with fresh homemade bread/butter. Our cocktails were so fresh and delicious. You can tell the bartender is very talented. Ended the night with the Tiramisu that was amazing! (I usually don’t care about Tiramisu but this was unreal). The prices are good too. We can’t wait to go back!!! Covington is lucky to have this place!

My Son and I had dinner with you guys last night. He had the rabbit over pasta and I the meatballs n spaghetti both homemade. Both dishes were incredible, served with a generous but not overwhelming portion. The price point and atmosphere adds to the enjoyment. I want to thank you for a wonderful experience so much that I feel I owe you a favor. Here it is, may I suggest you add this wine to your collection. Marque’s de Caccres (I have no affiliation to this wine) would be a perfect complement to what is an extraordinary menu. Its blend, flavor and price point will serve you and your customers well! Good luck with your success and we will see you again and again hopefully with the addition of a bottle of Marque’s de Caccres. Nick. Pensacola Fl

I can't get enough of this place. The drinks menu is delightfully curated and delicious. The rotating food menu is also fun and flavorful. With that said, it is definitely not an experience for everyone. For one, you have to have a refined palate that appreciates nuance of flavor, fresh ingredients, and subtlety playful combinations. The other thing is the portion sizes truly are perfect, single serving sizes. Not everyone enjoys this; however, I find it super refreshing as I'm not confronted with the oh so casually American temptation of over stuffing myself. If you're expecting to take things to go, this is not the place to choose. This is an experience to be enjoyed and shared inside the restaurant. I've never left hungry, but I've also never left miserably full and regretting my decisions. With true European flare, you may occasionally have to be assertive with the service staff if you are not particularly enjoying to leisure of it all, but ultimately, I'd suggest you sit back, relax, and enjoy a nice slow date night communing over your supper the way meals are intended to be enjoyed. My only complaint is that while the pumpkin spice tiramisu is very good, the original tiramisu they had on their menu in the summer was absolutely out of this world. Best I've ever had (and it's one of my favorite desserts). I hope they bring it back soon.

Yelp
This is an awesome spot! Not just for Covington but for anywhere! The staff is warm and friendly, attentive. I met both owners at a different visit. The food is so good. Small plates were perfect for a girlfriend's dinner to be shared over a few cocktails. We had a few plates but these were my favorites, duck fat "tots" and cacio de peppers which were to die for. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Cocktails were perfect. Feeling free to eat and not be rushed and to sit and visit with your friends. Perfect evening. Thank you!

Yelp
Just off the Square in Covington Ga. The square is pretty awesome at night, (haven't seen it in day light) lots of people kids, youth, dogs, older couples and all in between. Bar Oscar is a hopping place inside and out. The staff was one of the busiest and efficient I've ever experienced. I was here traveling & spending the night before moving on. I quick bite a drink and off to bed. The meatball small plate was 3 Big meatballs loaded with a house marinara sauce. I think I got some on my blouse, I'll lick it clean later, it came with their house bread, I'm running out of adjectives yum. Liked the vibe here, everyone seemed to be enjoying the food, drinks and atmosphere. When in this part of Ga. Give them a try.

Yelp
Initially fell in love with this place. Food is amazing, ambiance is everything. Being from NY, it gave a taste of home. Went a second time, seemed they were short staffed. As the food took forever to come out when bringing friends visiting from Cali. Still loved it so much here, it was a top pick to use their space for my Babyshower. My husband initially inquired their private event information the beginning of July. My mom followed up mid July. All through their interactions it was said the needed date was available and would not be taken. No deadline or anything of that nature was provided. Just the promise that it was being held in their system. My mom communicated she would provide a definite to them by 7/25. Unfortunately, was unable to reach them that day. Where they were reached Monday morning 7/28. Explaining we were a definite but would be leaving a deposit that Friday 8/1. After getting off the line, a text message was sent by the event coordinator. Stating she apologizes that there was a discrepancy in the system. That the date was in fact NOT available. When my mom replied not understanding how they allowed this to take place. A call was made stating it was due to her being new that she was so sorry. I can't help but question if it was truly on honest mistake or not. If someone else swooped in and took the date with the deposit ready right then and there. The transparency would have been much more appreciated and acceptable. Rather than just basically an oops I'm new. Even in the event of being an honest mistake, that type of "mistake" is not one that is taken lightly when event planning is at hand. Something should have been done with an attempt made to work with us or compensate in some sort of way. With now wasting our time, placing us in a position to start from scratch and possibly struggle to find somewhere with the needed date available. Just because I allowed myself to become so dead set on this being THE PLACE. When hearing this I was absolutely devastated. Not only with the outcome but how it was handled. I really don't want to dislike it here and avoid bringing anyone to this place. However, the interaction has left a very bad taste and impression. I'm a person that hosts my fair share of events where this absolutely could have became a go to for us. Now? This will 100% make me think twice.

Yelp
They have done a good job making this a nice bar/dinner area. My advice is not to come hungry but come here to have a couple adult beverages and munch on the tapas style Italian food. Everything we had was very tasty but the portions are small and light. We ended up getting the meatballs at the end to try and feel full. The drinks are good and the service is really good. I do suggest they cut the prices just a bit to make it more in line with the area. They are almost Atlanta prices, Good for them if that works though.

Yelp
Food and service are incredible! We've been twice, and being local, we are so happy the menu changes frequently giving us new items to try. Loved the meatballs, parm pasta, pork belly pasta, morel pasta (favorite so far), and snap pea pasta. All of the cocktails we've tried have been fantastic. The burrata and whipped ricotta were okay, and I think they would've been better if the bread was served warm. In terms of portions, I think the sizes are huge for the price and value of handmade pasta. We've taken leftovers with both visits. The Salumi Board for 2 was huge and so is the tiramisu - both items large enough to share with more than 2 people when getting multiple apps. We took our toddler on a weekday our first visit and sat inside with no issues. It was pretty quiet that day inside, so when we take her again we'll sit on the patio.

Yelp
Been going here since they first opened a few months agoz and drove back here from over two hours away just to make it to their cheese wheel cracking party. This place truly has the best, freshest pasta, cheese, and bread in the whole Atlanta area. You won't regret trying this hidden gem.

Yelp
Night of the derby. Enjoyed drinks on the patio before dinner. Sat us, a table for 8, inside. We ordered a few appetizers and another round of drinks. Then dinner. Oxtail. Meatballs. pasta. Meat and cheese board. It's supposedly Italian, but not your typical Italian. Classy atmosphere. Simple menu. Cool bar. Spacious patio. Food is good. I'd go back for the atmosphere and drinks and maybe the meatballs and pasta. It's unique. It's a place that will become over time. If the food was authentically Italian, it would be 5 stars. Good.

Yelp
Excellent addition to the Square in Covington. Greeted warmly, sat at the bar. Cool vibe, interesting cocktails and stellar service. Can't remember the bartenders name, but she was perfectly cast for the role. Fun fact: They serve you this amazing bread right when you sit down. It's like tasting a sourdough cloud, seriously. The Polenta cake with celery salad is delish, too. Looking forward to our next visit.

Yelp
Another exciting meal last night! Had the gnocco fritto, carpaccio, panzanlla and my favorite blistered peppers. Enjoyed a bottle of wine and then moved on to the Parmesan and Caccio de Pepe pastas. Everything was delicious as usual! Only sad note we didn't leave room for dessert! Love they add new items to the menu as they serve what is seasonal! See you next week.

Yelp
Food was great. Service excellent. Only issue they don't take reservations....so it is like the wild, wild west. Go early. It starts getting busy after 6pm and this was on a Wednesday. Can't imagine what the rest of the week is like,

Yelp
What a hidden gem! This cozy spot absolutely exceeded my expectations. The atmosphere is intimate and full of charm--perfect for a relaxed night out. The food was incredible: fresh ingredients, rich flavors, and clearly made with love. You can really taste the authenticity in every bite. The staff were warm, attentive, and made us feel right at home. Many compliments to the chef! It's clear everyone there is passionate about what they do, and that energy shines through in both the service and the food. A fantastic addition to the neighborhood. The parmesan pasta, burrata, and a pisco sour are my go-to favs!

Yelp
When you first go in you have to seat yourself. We sat outside. I liked the ambiance and how the seating was set up. There were industrial fans outside to keep us cool. The menu dining outside is different from the menu dining inside. The complimentary sour bread is made in house, it wasn't my favorite thing. We got the Parmesan pasta and bolognese Bianco pasta, both were good and well sauced, we enjoyed that. The gelato flight was good as well. I would recommend this spot.

Yelp
New Italian spot and I have already been multiple times. Friendly staff, the atmosphere is amazing. I'm from NYC and I haven't found a spot that served orange wine since I've lived in Georgia so that was a bonus.

Yelp
This place is incredible. A MUST stop if you're in Covington. From food to service (you were amazing, Reese!), everything is top notch and we were BEYOND impressed. You can taste how fresh everything is. We are truly at a loss for words after this experience!

Yelp
Dinner at Bar Oscar was fantastic! Service was perfect and professional, cocktail yummy and food delicious. I noticed reviews that said these were small portions. The idea is to get several dishes to share and try out. My husband and I ordered 1 each of the meatballs, Parmesan pasta, Gnocco Fritto, and extra bread (cause we had to have more than the complimentary order!). Both of us were stuffed after that! I tried the Hemingway Daiquiri (maybe 2) and really enjoyed this as a refreshing summer cocktail. The ambiance was very nice although a bit loud in there. This was our first time, but we will definitely be back.

Yelp
Service is awesome, food is excellent. Try one of everything ! The pasta and sauces are made in kitchen and very upscale . Meatballs in sauce very good. Weekly menu updates. Ambiance is one of a kind. Covered fanned Patio for relaxing and indoor is very tastefully designed (romantic ).

Yelp
Lovely cocktails and a thoughtfully executed menu. You can taste the freshness and care in every bite. Ragu...WOW, SO YUMMY Can't wait to go back!!

Yelp
If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Food is incredible. It is a small plates concept but we love that because you can try a little bit of everything! Everything is made in house. Atmosphere is incredible- we will definitely be back!

Yelp
Food was OK. Service was OK. Prices were through the roof! My wife ordered a Dry Martini with Belvedere vodka. They wanted to upcharge for the change making it a $23 martini. Nope!

Sharon P.

Yelp
Menu extremely limited. Portions small. Supposed to be Italian and the wine list doesn't even offer Prosecco. Really!! Food was tasty but pricey for what you got.
