Dogpatch Restaurant Piccino Launches a New Bar With a Seductive Lounge Hidden Inside | Eater SF

"Located at 1003 Minnesota Street in the Yellow Building next to Piccino, Bar Piccino opens as a separate, 2,500-square-foot bar that keeps some of Piccino’s sensibility while carving out its own identity. After quietly operating for a few weeks, it debuts with cocktails from bar manager Andi Miller (who brings experience from Arguello and Third Rail), a focused wine selection tied to the restaurant, four beers on tap plus bottles, several nonalcoholic mixed drinks and beer options, and a small-but-mighty, bite-focused menu. Cocktails lean mezcal- and tequila-forward and center on a multi-negroni program of five versions (two gin, two mezcal, and a boulevardier made with a 10-year-aged bourbon); the bar is also making a house red bitter from four aperitifs from Italy and Mexico. Standouts called out by staff include the Cloudview (coconut-washed gin with apricot, lemon, bergamot, bitters, a Champagne float and honey from owner Margherita Sagan’s Sausalito beehives) and Andi’s negroni (Espadin mezcal, pineapple rum, strawberry-infused aperitivo and a house vermouth blend). The food menu is snack-oriented — think “mushroom fries” (tempura-like fried maitake with Calabrian chili sauce), potato tostone with kumquat kosho and salmon roe, and whipped mortadella with pickled cherries, toasted pistachios and ciabatta — and the space emphasizes craft and atmosphere, from a 25-foot Monterey cypress bar top on a marble base and locally made Italian-leather stools to handblown amber fixtures and a hidden lounge for 20–30 with lower ceilings, leather and velvet for a cozier vibe. Hours at opening are Wednesday–Thursday 4 p.m.–10 p.m., Friday–Saturday 4 p.m.–midnight, and Sunday 4 p.m.–10 p.m." - Dianne de Guzman

I recently booked this bar for my 40th birthday, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. From start to finish, the entire team was truly exceptional. The food, cocktails, and wine were all outstanding, and the space itself was beautiful and so thoughtfully set up. The event coordinator was amazing throughout the planning process — organized, responsive, and incredibly helpful. On the night of the event, the onsite team checked in regularly and made sure everything ran seamlessly. Even small touches, like bringing backup candles when ours wouldn’t stay lit, showed how attentive and prepared they were. I felt so taken care of every step of the way. If you’re planning an event, big or small, I can’t recommend this place enough. They made my milestone birthday truly unforgettable.

A great neighborhood staple! Excellent cocktails and solid bar bites. I could see it being a great date spot or just a good place to catch up where it’s hip but still quiet enough to have an actual conversation.

Really loved this bar! Went on a random weekend to celebrate my friend's promotion and the drinks were great but the bartender was even better! She was very sweet (I think her name was Em?) and even chatted with us for a bit. I loved the vibes all around

The cocktails at Bar Piccino are easily among the best in San Francisco. Seemingly simple ingredients that amount to some really unique recipes. But the place is more than just phenomenal drinks. The staff is also top shelf. We naively showed up in the wake of a big Warriors game and there wasn’t a seat to be had, so we settled for a spot outside. Even with a packed house, the manager took notice that it was a little too chilly out and things were taking a little longer than usual, so he took it upon himself to get us inside and seated at the bar as soon as he could. He even ordered us a plate of their marinated olives on the house to make up for the wait. That sort of personal care goes a long way in my book. And if you’re thinking olives aren’t a big deal try them I swear they must be covered in dopamine, they’re phenomenal. So even if it’s a little out of your way, this place is worth the trip. The drinks and the ambiance will not disappoint.

Bar Piccino, the bar extension of the Dogpatch restaurant Piccino, offers a tempting spot for after-work drinks and shareable plates. While it boasts a cool vibe and some delicious bites, a few stumbles kept it from being a slam dunk. Bar Piccino strikes a nice balance between upscale and casual. The indoor space itself is rather minimalistic and intimate with dim lighting and limited seating (which makes it a cool spot for a date night). Aim for an off-peak time or be prepared to wait for a spot, especially on the weekends. They do have some outdoor seating space but definitely bring a layer because you know it - it gets chilly in the night. When we visited Bar Piccino, we were the only group inside, and there were maybe 2 groups that were seated outside. On a Friday night, it was surprisingly very quiet. My friends and I ordered drinks at the counter and grabbed what appeared to be the only round table in the bar. My first observation when I looked at their menu was that their non-alcoholic drinks cost almost the same as their cocktails and other alcoholic drinks, which to me was a bit surprising and disappointing. The other thing that stood out was that their non-alcoholic drinks, at least some of them, were basically the alcohol free version of their cocktails. Anyways, we tried their Oxacan Holiday and Lust in the Dust cocktails. They were both pretty decent. I liked the Oxacan holiday more than the Lust in the Dust. Oxacan holiday had smoky notes from the mezcal and a hint of honey, citrus, and spices. Lust in the Dust had peppery agave flavor from the tequilla and sweet and tart flavors from the passion fruit and the pear. Bar Piccino has its charms. If you're looking for a trendy spot with a casual vibe and solid drinks, Bar Piccino is worth a try.

Been in SF for two months and hang out in the area a lot. Come to this bar for a great ambience. Came for a friend's birthday but not only did they charge $72 for us bringing cake but then the bartender shouted at everyone when they were leaving and even called the birthday person names when it wasn't his fault. Incredibly disrespectful and ruined a lovely venue and a lovely celebration. Will be advising others to stay well away in the future.

Google
Great space and usually very nice on Saturdays, but female blonde bartender on Sundays is incredibly rude and insulted our guests on their birthday. We spend several hundred $, are regulars, we used to recommend this bar to everyone in the area, and were told "please come on Sunday as it's always empty" by another member of staff who was very kind and helped us organize. Night ruined by just one bartender. We could not believe this behavior - totally unprofessional. Went on a rant as we were leaving and only when we were leaving. Never raised an issue during the entire evening. We complained to manager and action will be taken. Avoid on Sundays or as long as this bartender is still employed there (hopefully not for much longer). Will ruin your night guaranteed!

Yelp
I decided to check out Piccino with a friend on Wednesday at around 6:30 pm and we didn't know that reservations are mostly required for the actual restaurant so we had dinner at their connecting bar area which served a similar menu to the restaurant. The bar area is very aesthetic and we enjoyed sitting in the more private area downstairs which allowed us to talk without too much noise. Focaccia - One of our favorite items from the meal. It was super soft with a light crust and seasoned lightly with herbs on top. It paired so well with the olive oil that made it a nice salty savory appetizer to start. Arancini a la Barolo - The arancini was lightly crunchy and didn't feel oily. I loved the parmesan cheese added on top because it had a nice bitterness that contrasted the more savory and rich vegetable flavors inside. Salsiccia - A simple pizza where the crust was thin but held very well. The pork sausage on top was savory and had a nice bite to it that tasted good with the white alfredo like sauce and fresh, crunchy red onions. We enjoyed trying their menu items and would definitely come back to eat at their main restaurant area next time.

Yelp
Happened onto this place when a friend invited me to dine here. Set in the vibrant dogpatch neighborhood this gem on a late afternoon day was a great setting. The staff are all very friendly and top notch . I settled on the meatballs, their sausage pizza , and a lovely burrata side dish. Also they have my most beloved of Sicilian Sodas Chinotto, a lovely light citrus beverage . The meatball s are unlike anything I have stated and are encrusted in a way they are quite tasty, delicate , and remarkable to behold . The sausage pizza was light and had a layered flavored and that was savory and very satisfying . The bursts with the sun choke was exceptional and delightful . The setting his simplified elegance and a setting where discussions are long and the patrons are thriving at this venue .

Yelp
There's a super cute area in the back for drinks. It's like a small lounge behind the bar area. Stopped by after climbing for one drink. Tried their white wine offering at time. It was good. Light and easy. Service was nice. Definitely want to come back to try their cocktails.

Yelp
my girlfriend and I were killing time before our reservation at Piccino restaurant, so we found a couple seats at their Bar right next door. we didn't try any of their food, but they offered similar options to the ones on the restaurant menu, but they have unique items on their menus that you can't order at the real restaurant. some options are unique to the bar area like the hamachi market crudo, arancini, and maitake mushrooms. the drinks were tasty, the bartenders were nice, and the service was wonderful! can't wait to try the food next time.

Yelp
Found myself in Dogpatch, looking for a spot to gram a cocktail or glass of wine, with a few colleagues, and find this spot - perfect! Had a great mezcal cocktail, and others had wine, cocktails and coffee. Great ambiance, vibe and service. Great spot!

Yelp
Bar Piccino is actually an extension of Piccino restaurant where they serve drinks and some food. The bar mainly focuses on negroni but I got the Milano superstar and it was delicious. The bar has good ambiance so I could see it as a good date place as well!

Yelp
We love this spot! It's a stunning space with phenomenal drinks and everyone who works here is lovely. They have a limited menu of food from the main restaurant. There's a seating area behind the bar down a ramp that's really cozy late at night.

Yelp
Trendy upscale bar. Enjoyed our cocktails. Hard to narrow down bc all of the cocktails sounded like something I wanted to try. So I finally chose the Boulevardier. And it was a great choice. Luckily my Daughter picked the Oaxacan bird since that was my runner up choice and I was able to sample. Bottom line...you can't go wrong with either. Both so different and still unique and great. The Oaxacan bird was a tad fruity and tart but not sweet. I like that it was served in a martini glass. The Boulevardier was more spicy and had a kick to it. My kinda drink even though I prefer martini glass. Bar tender was friendly enough and knowledgable but he disappeared on us. Overall it is a great little bar.

Yelp
I'll keep it short because I'm buzzed but...IF you love craft cocktails made with top-shelf, small-batch booze, check out Bar Piccino (owned by Piccino). Tell Dominic what you like and and how you like it....wait that's sounds dirty. Let me try again, tell him the flavor profiles you like, and he'll make a customized cocktail for you. Don't like it? Tell him, and he'll make you different one that you'll like. Cheers! OTHER INFO * Open 4 pm-midnight on weekends. And, I believe 4 pm - 9 pm on Wednesday-Thursday. * Located next door to Piccino (great pizzas+pastas) so you can grab a drink before dinner. * Kitchen opens at 5 pm for bar bites. * The three cocktails I had: cloudview, dogpatch negroni, and vesper were well-balanced and stiff. * DD had lemonades, non-alcoholic ($8 each). * Bar bites: Crispy maitake 'shrooms ($15) and Potato tostones w/ salmon roe ($12) were both just ok. Skip the tostones; they were like semi-smashed roasted potatoes. * One of the bartenders seemed annoyed when I asked about the clears they had (brands I've never seen) so thankfully the other bartender helped us. * One standing dog-friendly table outside. * Street parking only. Kinda difficult.

Yelp
Need a top tier spot for a date? Dinner and drinks with no reservation? Got turned away because the Piccino restaurant is too busy? Have no fear, Bar Piccino is here haha. This elevated spot is more than just your average bar, with a FIRE small bites menu, separate sunken dining lounge, personable service, and obviously a lovely array of drinks (awesome non-alcoholic cocktails too!) Don't be deterred by the limited menu, the dinner we had at Bar Piccino surprisingly rivaled most SF restaurants I've made reservations for. The star of the night was the deliciously decadent Raviolo All'Uovo, with runner-ups of the winter salad and arancinis. Bar Piccino remains a hidden gem with its recent opening, but with its beautiful ambience and quality menu I'm sure it'll become a fan favorite for everyone in the Dogpatch.

Yelp
Small but nice bar behind the Piccino restaurant. You can sit along the bar or side wall or stand around the island across the bar. There are coat hooks under the island which is a nice touch. The staff is knowledgeable and great with recommendations to fit your tastes. There's a variety of cocktails, beer, and wine, with some non alcoholic drinks as well. The lighting and music is very romantic, with more of a chill and quiet atmosphere compared to other bars. A very nice bar to go to after dinner or at the start of a bar crawl! There's also snacks and food you can order to go with your drink.

Yelp
Got funneled over here after walking in to Piccino without a reservation did not pan out - but I will say Bar Piccino was such a wonderful detour (I actually didn't even know it opened). The space is beautiful, and there were cozy window bar seats that my friend and I sat at. We ordered a couple bar bites - the focaccia (nice flavors and loved the incorporation of nectarine but I was sad that it was flatbread rather than actual focaccia), English pea arancini (such lovely crispy bites), and pizza salsiccia (hearty and savory on a nice thin crust) - as well as a cocktail (I'm forgetting the name but it had gin and peach with other fruits - so summery and refreshing). The staff was attentive and friendly and overall it was just a warm, peaceful place to relax after a work day.

Yelp
We were seated at this weird back table - it wasn't a room, it was just a small 4 top that was walled off from the rest of the restaurant, with an exit door so close to the table. Food and drinks were aobe average, service was excellent.

Yelp
REVIEW #800!! - After a nice dinner, a friend of mine wanted to check out Bar Piccino. My goodness this is a cool place. The vibe was dark and sexy on a busy Friday night. We found two seats at the bar and the bartender welcomed us right away. We got water and menus, and as a nice touch, he gave us shots from a drink that he finished making for another patron that were "leftover." Our first round of drinks were impressive. I loved how engaging the bartender was as he made our drinks, and seemed genuinely interested to know if we liked them. They were very smooth and I wouldn't have thought they were strong if I didn't watch him pour the liquors in front of me - they were balanced so well. Loved that! My second drink I went non-alcoholic which also had a nice flavor profile. The crew working tonight were so kind and friendly, and their playlist was awesome. I hope to visit again very soon, and will try to bring my designated driver, also known as my husband.

Yelp
Best negronis in town. Try the piccino for a sweeter taste or the dogpatch for a more refreshing feel.

Yelp
The service here was non-existent and seemed almost intentionally bad. It was my wife's birthday and we arrived at the Piccino restaurant 15 mins early so went to the bar to wait and order drinks. It seemed like there was a bar waiter taking orders but after a few minutes of him walking by, we decided to just order at the bar. As we told the bartender our order, the waiter came to the same station and said he would put the order in. The bartender seemed standoff-ish (not really looking at us when talking) but I didn't think anything of it at the time. We proceeded to wait 30 mins and during this time, folks who sat and ordered after us would already receive their drinks. Finally, we received notice that our table was ready and I went to the bartender to tell him that we needed to go to our table. He looked for our order receipt but said that it was never placed. The waiter was also here at this time and saw this exchange but had no reaction. He had the same demeanor as before and just looked down with no acknowledgment. There was no suggestion of bringing our drinks to our dinner table or comping our drink order - just nothing. Not having the drinks we ordered was not a big deal but the whole exchange with the waiter set the tone and soured our dinner experience as well (which again was celebratory for my wife's birthday). We felt completely ignored and less than by the waiter, whether intentional or not. For a bar that was created to provide a nice welcoming for their sister restaurant, it did exactly the opposite. We will not be coming back and do not recommend this place.

Yelp
Very friendly staff, friend and I walked in on Sat to a full but not crowded bar. We were greeted immediately upon entering, and they showed us a separate lounge space that was quieter, more intimate, and filled with plush, clean seating. We opted for the quiet corner, and our waiter took a lot of time understanding what both of us liked and didn't like. After throwing lots of different requirements at him, he returned with the daily special (forget what it was called), which was a great start. He explained the cocktail without being intimidating or without pressure for us to love it. But it was great! Friend and I then started working through the top half of the cocktail menu b/c neither of us are too into Italian liquors. My favorite was the copper penny. It really has layers! I loved the light citrusy taste, and the coffee always gently hit at the end. The cocktail sounds weird, but it works so well! We then kept working our way, taking turns b/w the Mariposa, the Mission Bay, Southern Edge, and others. The staff gave us plenty of space, but were always available, patient, and helped us pick new cocktails when we needed their expertise. I think we got there around 6 but didn't leave until shortly before midnight :) Big cheers for a bar in Dogpatch being open past 10!!!! I really enjoyed my time there to leisurely sip drinks in a nice, low key environment with a really friendly, professional, and knowledgeable staff.

Yelp
Sad to know they can serve such amazing cocktails but clearly could not care less. Went there for the first time early in the evening. Not busy at all, yet the bartender/mixologist took FOREVER to make and serve our 2 drinks. He was not busy prepping or service other drinks. He was just casually walking back and forth chatting about his life with the other employee that clearly was trying to set things up in preparation for the evening. He would pour an ingredient and go chat, go back to work on the cocktail and back again to chat.... and it is a pretty long counter. Ridiculous. We laughed it off and enjoyed what it sure was one of the best cocktails we had in a long time. It would have been worth the wait, if the waiting was necessary, no question asked. Very unlikely we will ever go back.

Yelp
Great spot for cocktails and food. Shares some menu items with the full service restaurant next door including their delicious pizza. Well crafted cocktails, friendly staff and great service! We ordered an appetizer that we mistakenly somehow missed was fried and not what we wanted. Totally our fault but they still took it off the bill.
