New Orleans’ Best Chicken Wings | Eater New Orleans

"This dive bar on Poland Avenue haunts the digs that formerly housed the Joint. Besides entertainment on the patio, which can range from blues to burlesque, Bar Redux dishes mighty fine bar food, including meaty chicken wings slathered with zippy barbecue sauce. Enjoy the basement rec room vibe along with homemade veggie burgers and loaded nachos." - Beth D’Addono

New Orleans’s Best Late Night Restaurants and Food | Eater New Orleans

"The low-slung turquoise bar on the last street in the Bywater used to be the Joint back in the day, Now it’s a much-loved neighborhood watering hole with a damn-fine bar menu, not to mention an eclectic music and burlesque schedule. Bar Redux has everything from red beans to fried chicken to cheesesteaks to quesadillas. Get your fill until 3 a.m. on Fridays, and 2 a.m. every other day of the week. Raise the bar on the experience and dine on the patio." - Beth D’Addono

"This Bywater dive bar boasts ample seating on the outside patio, where anything from blues to burlesque holds sway. The drinks are strong and cheap and the pub grub is surprisingly good. Try the chicken sausage gumbo." - Eater Staff

Google
Fantastic neighbourhood joint deep in the Bywater. Friendly staff and great vibes! Creole wings are so good we had them 3 nights in a row. Highly recommend Redux for a casual drink and great food.

Google
Best dive bar. Best family run bar. Best bar? So friendly. Great hot wings.

Google
This is the best bar that my wife and I have had the pleasure of going to in New Orleans. If you’re looking for another bourbon street tourist trap this is not the place for you. Great bartenders/food/music! The wings are amazing

Google
Mmmmm! Visiting Nola for the first time. This is the third burger we have tried. All the others were so disappointing. This one was juicy and flavorful and the fries were delicious. Bartender and other patrons were awesome.

Google
Great local artists play. Excellent family owned bar, great bartenders. Smoker friendly. Cute patio. No door fee, but tip the band.

Google
I am not a "bar person". Redux is the singular exception. Friendly, chill vibe with awesome Cajun chicken wings and generous fries. Multiple interior areas and an open to the sky outdoor patio area that has so much space! This is my new go-to place in New Orleans.

Google
Great wings and the portabella cheese steak was ok. The service started out fine but it took me 20min to close my tab and it wasn't busy. They just ignored me standing at the check out. And a little attitude from them didn't help. Would go back for pick-up only.

Google
Such a lovely place, tasty food and nice people. I highly recommend this bar.

Yelp
I just want to acknowledge that Bar Redux serves some of the best veggie burgers in the city. The black bean one with grilled pineapple is just *chef's kiss.* And the portobello burger is just as delightful, and feels healthy as well. They are always well dressed, never dry, and they come with a side of crispy, satisfying fries. On nights when they're out of burgers, I order the grilled veggie tacos, which are also delicious. They are a bar, yes, but they take pride in their food and it shows. I've never once gotten a bad meal there, nor a weak cocktail.

Yelp
After hearing great things about this tiny bar, we popped in late night for a quick drink and a burger. From the outside, it doesn't look like much but once you enter the bar is quirky and opens up to the outside patio area. The bartenders were super friendly and greeted up right away. I'm told the owner is always around and she delivered our burgers. Overall fun spot and great burger if you're hungry after 10pm.

Yelp
It's a dive bar. The negative reviews are dramatic. Went here last month on my trip to New Orleans and I am STILL thinking about how good the Creole wings were. Will definitely go back anytime I'm in town.

Yelp
Super sketch part of town, at least for out of towners. Got drinks quickly but waited to try and order food for so long that we had our drink and left.

Yelp
Our first night in New Orleans we happened upon this little place. Very quirky, fun vibe. Super friendly people. My mom and I had burgers , my husband had a jerk chicken sandwich.

Yelp
I visited this bar twice during my 6 day adventure in New Orleans and it was awesome both times. Great food, super friendly and sweet staff, good music playing, great people inside, cool decor, real comfy!!! I'm from LA so im definitely going to miss it and wish we had a place like that where I live. Next time I visit, I will absolutely visit Bar Redux again!

Yelp
I really like this place . Chicken wings are large and very awesome . Cajun has a great taste to it . Back patio is perfect for relaxing . Bartenders are very friendly . How ever they only deliver food in the bar bar , no service... so go get it . Awesome vibe . They screened the crow for devils night . Enjoyed watching the movie .

Yelp
Take out- friendly, prompt service Creole wings- plump, juicy, flavorful, not usually a wing eater but loved these Jerk chicken on bun- spicy, peppery, soft bun, loved it, i added habanero bbq sauce i had at home- it needed sauce. Fries- Excellent, house-made Loved the decor, seating on patio and out front, friendly neighborhood vibe Clean bathroom

Yelp
We stayed in the neighborhood and after a long day of flights we decided this was the best bet in walking distance. I loved the vibe of this quaint bar with live music. The courtyard has a lot of character, the food is all made fresh there and the staff is friendly.
google avatar

Javier L.

Yelp
Cool little bar. Love the Cumbia night they had this Saturday. Food was ok, I only had a Jerk Chicken burger.
google avatar

James Y.

Yelp
Food was great. Staff was top notch. Great atmosphere. Unpretentious and friendly. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Great little neighborhood bar with a great little courtyard for music and entertainment. The food here is good and above all are the wings. The cajun wings are some of the best wings I have ever eaten. So good.
google avatar

Shannon S.

Yelp
This is a decent little bar that also serves food. I ordered "The Redux Burger" which has a menu description which says it has Creole mustard and horseradish but I didn't taste or see either of those condiments on mine so not sure what was going on with that? There is always an interesting crowd in this joint and it never seems to be the same environment when I visit as the music and people seem to shift depending on the day and time you visit which for me have always been very different and quite spaced out. Overall this is an interesting little bar with a lot of character but I still wanted a whole lot more Creole mustard and horseradish on my burger.

Yelp
I love this bar! What a treat! I went out of curiosity due to the colorful exterior reminding me of a Cuban oasis. I was so wrong, and I'm glad I was! Out back, they were showing a horror film that was a remake! Solo was there to tell all about the movie he helped film and make effects for. I ordered the barbecue sliders special. It was yum! Fun place for sure! I love that the back is open air and you can be outside, yet under a heater if needed- like on this unusual New Orleans cold march day!

Yelp
one of the best low key bars in Nola. Not to mention the drinks, the food, in the hospitality. One stop shop!!

Yelp
Turns out we couldn't have picked a better place to celebrate the Biden Presidency-to-be. I thought this was just a late-night bar, but they do food and they do it well! We got there as they were opening up and the owner warned us the kitchen wouldn't be ready to go for 30 minutes or so, but since we were in full celebratory mode, that was fine. She took us back to their darling patio and brought us our drinks. In the meantime we chatted with a cook and the other owner, who were just excited about the day's events as we were. When another patron showed up with a bottle of Dom Perignon, the night just got better! My two friends ordered burgers and I got a pulled Jerk chicken sandwich. The burgers looked delicious, and I loved the seasoning of the chicken: warning, it gets spicier as you go! The house cut fries were good as well. The sandwiches are huge! I saved half of mine for lunch the next day and it was plenty. As I said, the patio is really cute, really a friend's-backyard feel, and the patrons just add to that. I did notice at least one table that caters to smokers, but that's not enough to keep me away. Love this place! Oh, and there's a tiny stage on one side, but...it's 2020...sigh.

Yelp
Go to Bar Redux if you're in the Bywater! It's great fun, always something fun happening there. Stumps the bartender is the BEST!!!
google avatar

Jeremy T.

Yelp
So much to say but I gotta keep it close to the vest. It's just too special. That said, they don't offer quesadillas here. They offer crackadillas.

Yelp
Off the radar little dive bar. Quiet end of the Bywater in Poland, who'd a thunk it? Delicious wings meaty juicy spicy yummy. Ditto fried chicken. Jambalaya tasty generous side. Right price. Excellent quality. No frills but clean quiet friendly place. Entertainment occasionally on the little stage out back. Staff are super duper efficient friendly competent. Special call out to kitchen lady who emerges to personally drop off delectables tableside. A national treasure, wotta great cook. This isn't fine dining, it's a dive bar ruff round the edges, nice quiet local customers enjoying the warm evening. Ceiling fans no air con, we like that too. Twas our pleasure dropping in to Bar Redux yesterday . Left happy and well nourished. Recommended for value and quality of food.

Yelp
We've had a super long day driving in to New Orleans from Atlanta. We just walked back to our air bnb from bar redux. By the way, it has a big sign outside that just says bar. It also kinda just pops up on you. There seem to be a few dive bars in the area that all do the same, on dark roads and just kinda pop up suddenly. But! Luckily these places are all open super late so if you're looking to hang out someplace or eat, you found it! It's Friday night & it was pretty busy. This is the dive bar of dive bars. Very tiny. Very local, like pretty sure everyone knew each other inside. Ok so I still don't know for sure how you're supposed to do things.. no clear indication. Basically, we walked in and stood in the walkway for a few minutes until we saw an employee come through to ask for a menu. The bartenders were both busy talking to drunk people. We were told to order with Hannah so we went to get in what we thought was the line because someone was standing at the bar talking to the bartender but eventually I realized they were talking to themselves or maybe at the bartender? I don't know but Hannah noticed us and started to come out of the bar towards so we got to order our food & apparently one person takes food & one does drinks but she passed our drink order along. We got jambalaya(cup), creole wings (6)& gumbo(cup) + one whiskey & coke & a water for under $24. Great value! We went through a door to the dance area/dj/extra tables & this side is outdoors & half covered. I sat in the arms of a tree. Then I stood bc my chair slowly sank into the mud. We got our food & the wings are huge & the cups came with bread too. Plenty of food! The jambalaya was mildly spicy & really good. Wings were definitely worth it & I wouldnt order the gumbo again but it started to grow on me. It was kinda bitter? Not sure if that's normal but it tasted ok after awhile. It had a ton of meat inside.. maybe chicken and sausage? Dark outside so hard to tell. I'd do the wings & jambalaya again. Dj played jazz/r&b mostly and we were close so couldn't hear ourselves think but I think it was for the dancers. Cute place, worth a stop if you're within walking as parking is weird here. People just randomly park on the street, not sure if it's legal but it's mostly residential anyway.

Yelp
Miller High Life and a double of Admiral Nelson for $6 and a drunk bartender that chugged a beer (and knocked over another in the process) What else do I have to say?
google avatar

J B.

Yelp
Awesome bar on Poland. They have sweet bar food I had the chicken wings which are humongous & piping hot. They also have happy hour from open till 7pm. Shot & a beer for $5. Also a comedy show every Tuesday night hosted by Young Funny. I'll definitely return
google avatar

Geneva H.

Yelp
To be transparent: I am part of the comedy group who performs here on Tuesdays. Now to the review. Bar Redux is a dive bar with really good food. My favorites are the burger and nachos. They do bar food really well but also serve really good red beans, cobbler and other local classics. Their wings are very meaty and always good choice. While I'm normally only there during my show....Bar Redux is the ideal chill bar. There are TVs, video poker and a nice patio. It's cozy enough for a casual date. It's also affordable, so you can drink and eat for a long time without breaking the bank. It's family owned and has a lot of regulars. They also feature rotating art installations by local artist. Along with a calendar of musical performances.
google avatar

Danielle K.

Yelp
This is a really cool place to come, especially after bacchanal's doors are closed. I love their lunch, their backyard seating, and when they have live music. I've heard their food is good for late night snacking but I haven't really tried it. It's a wonderful stop with a good crowd if you don't want your night to end early.
google avatar

Jinyoung P.

Yelp
Went over for the comedy show. The backyard area is super cute and last night was the perfect weather to sit outside. Staff was friendly and everyone at the bar was pretty cool. Some folks ordered food and it looked and smelled good. Maybe on my next visit I will try some food.
google avatar

Dan R.

Yelp
Keys to a dive bar are drinks, company and atmosphere--Bar Redux has all these, plus fine wings. The mixed drinks are strong, & there's a good range of beers, mostly local. Of course the people are friendly here--this is New Orleans and we're drinking. They have a great outdoor area with stage, plus some tables on the sidewalk and small indoor area. Atmosphere? How many bars have trains come by right next door, and a several story, well-lit & graffitied abandoned naval station across the street? And in the restroom, an Easy Rider (filmed in part in Norleans) signed by Peter Fonda.
google avatar

Andre L.

Yelp
One star I don't give those. Not even sure if I have before. This place would get a zero if it was possible because that's what I got while visiting friends there. I have nothing to write about because I was never greeted. My friends were sitting at the corner of the bar with drinks. I greeted them and literally stood at the bar around 20min waiting for them to finish drinks. The bar tender refreshed the drinks to the couple on my right and even gave another beer to one of my friends. It was strange not to be greeted or served but later I found out that bartender was the owner and he is supposedly just strange. I agree not a smart way to run an establishment. So this concludes my review. I did however enjoy the art tattooed all over the outside of the building!
google avatar

Keith A.

Yelp
Love this place more than any other.. Great atmosphere, food, staff, and backyard events of all kinds...
google avatar

Yelp
We visited this bar over the past weekend-our first eating establishment in NOLA. It wasn't that good-awful actually. We order jambalaya & it was clumpy and not flavorful at all. Considering this is a NOLA standard, this was quite shocking. We also ordered the wings, but they didn't have the sauce we wanted so we settled for something else. The wing were ok though. The drinks were the worse. We ordered margaritas & the bartender's special. Even the drinks were nasty! The reviews said this was a dive bar & it definitely was! I would expect the food & drinks to be better. Maybe we just got them on a bad night...at least the prices are reasonable...

Kat M.

Yelp
Amazing service and vibe, delicious pub food, and a laidback kindness and fun to all who gather here. I just love it.
google avatar

Kari F.

Yelp
Love this place. The regular bartender, Damien is very friendly and personable. You can tell some of the other staff here think he's a little too friendly lol but the bar guests really do enjoy him. The backyard area is very nice and cozy and lit with fairy lights. The kitchen is open until 1am and the food is good. Cheap drinks and cool people. In a great location next to Vaughan's and a bunch of other neighborhood bars. They have little events most nights like poetry or comedy or live music. A great neighborhood bar!
google avatar

Josh W.

Yelp
Awesome patio. Great space in general, I love the color, I love the decor, it is all around pleasant place to be. Plus they have this tasty gumbo, that I think I had seven bowls of this last weekend. Sorry hyperbole, it was only two, but man they were good.
google avatar

Marielle S.

Yelp
I like Bar Redux. I really like Bar Redux. This place makes you feel like you are hanging out in a friend's basement. I said that same thing about Dos Jefes, but the difference here is that the basement belongs to a cool friend and not your parents. The bar is on the divier side, but the staff is friendly and eager to please. It's definitely a neighborhood place and that patrons are more than happy to make a bit of chit chat. On this particular night the patio was closed, because there was no band, so I didn't really get to get a feel of that part of the place. It was also really hot out, so I wasn't complaining. I've also heard that they have amazing food, so I will have to see what the kitchen has to offer when I return.
google avatar

Keandra R.

Yelp
Another Bywater Gem! Football season is among us and my friends and I needed a cool, laid back, not overly crowded place to catch the game. Bar Redux delivered on all fronts! Dive bar atmosphere, neighborhood regulars, cheap & tasty bar bites, taste testing the upcoming Saints season signature shots, cool ass owner who indulged our bar talk banter, and an outside patio that will make you feel like you were catching the game at home. Sign.Me.Up.Anytime. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves despite the preseason opening loss. Either way I've found me a game day hangout not to far from home that's pretty damn cool.
google avatar

Lakeisha W.

Yelp
Food was good. The veggie burger was flavorful but a tad bit greasy. I ordered a sazerac from the bar, worst I've ever had in my life haha! I don't penalize her for it because it's a hard drink to perfect. The patio seating was romantic despite the New Orleans mosquito population.
google avatar

Cierra D.

Yelp
Such a good find! We came for late night and all of the food was super fresh and hot and DELICIOUS. Service was amazing; we love how open and inviting the family that owns it is. I will definitely be back!
google avatar

May W.

Yelp
Wanted to get the nachos but when I called, the guy on the phone said they haven't served that in over 6 months. Only problem was he was quite rude about it. Kinda made fun of me for relying on Yelp for their menu pics. I said if it wasn't for Yelp, I never would have thought about going there. However, that still didn't stop the bad service....ended up getting a burger since that also had good reviews (according to Yelp again.) My mid-well burger patty was a black disk of severely burnt meat. Obviously inedible, I was shocked they would serve something like that. And because I had done takeout, I just ended up throwing the entire thing away. I'm only giving them 2 stars because it was good bread. And I respect any place not using plain white buns. But I doubt I'll ever be back. Complete waste of my time and money.
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
So I had the veggie burger which is made in house and let me tell you, you will not find a better one than in this place. I forgot how much I loved this place!
google avatar

Amy L.

Yelp
Was on a late night bike ride and found this gem. Beautiful space, cold cheap beer and beautiful music. The courtyard is magical! Didn't try the food, but talked to several people that swore it was legit. Loved this place and will be back
google avatar

Katherine H.

Yelp
Best bar in town baby, feels like home Beautiful people, beautiful staff, delicious food.
google avatar

Rebel L.

Yelp
The problematic employee was removed months ago. Thank you for paying attention. Redux does have a lot of different forms of entertainment that does make it not your average bar.
google avatar

Natasha D.

Yelp
This is a fun place! It's very colorful on the outside with strange cat paintings. It's dark and dreary on the inside. It was completely empty when we visited, but the bartender was super attentive. The outdoor seating is pretty cool. It is casual and intimate with a little tucked away garden area. They say they have plans for a few TV's to be placed outside for football season. The bartender must have been bored because he kept bringing us mini drink creations. We were so hungover from the day before so it was hard to assess if they were even good drinks. At one point I asked him what drink was on the Yelp photos and showed him the pic, to which he replied "I don't know but I'll call the bartender." Um, aren't you the bartender? It was a little weird but comical as well. The food took forever, like 45 minutes. And we were the only people there! I think he had to call in the cook too. It was a one man show in the kitchen I saw later. But still, it seemed like a ridiculously long time. I would have understood and been more forgiving had the place been packed. I had the island burger which is a veggie burger with quinoa. It was a little too mushy for my liking but the flavor was good. My sister had the "real" burger and said it was really good. I had a salad on the side that was really fresh and good. My friend had a Caesar salad that looked really good but he was too hungover to eat. I know this review is contradictory, but I actually really liked it here. My only complaint was how long everything took, they could be a little more prompt. It is like the friendly little new neighborhood hot spot. It has a limited menu but the food is pretty good. I'll be back, especially to sit on the patio in the cooler months.
google avatar

Al I.

Yelp
A cute little dive bar with great food and wonderful service. It seems to be a bit of a one-woman show but she was on top of things and kept us in the loop as far as who was up next to order and following up with everyone.

Sean L.

Yelp
Food is good. Served me the wrong drink last time. Something made me sick. Good atmosphere, hangout spot
google avatar

Lynn B.

Yelp
Worst bar in the bywater if not in New orleans. It tastes like they water down their alcohol and the bartender isn't friendly at all. Horrible gumbo and their fries taste literally like dirty socks. I have overhead the owner practically begging people to leave positive reviews to offset genuine negative ones. They are new york posers trying to fit in a neighborhood with true born and raised new orleanian folks. ... Fun fact, almost every bar in the bywater offers free Thanksgiving and Christmas meals to give back to the community. .. except this one Bar redux? More like bar reDONT
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
Opened earlier this year by displaced New Yorkers, Russ and Jonya, the Bar Redux features a unique U-shaped bar, great comfort food menu, and interesting events almost every night. Tonight is Trivia Night. There's an outdoor patio and the decor is very eclectic. The jukebox swings.
google avatar

Steve E.

Yelp
Awesome little dive bar with great live music, cheap and strong drinks and the food is unexpectedly good.
google avatar

Jaycee F.

Yelp
Good little eatery in the Bywater. Cozy bar with an outside patio. Hip bands and awesome food. The size of the burger is insanity. Highly recommend in the Bywater area.
