Talk about ruling the roost! The Bar Rotunda at the Roost Hotel in the Book Tower is easily Detroit’s hippest place to sip away the hours in high style. And the food - courtesy of Le Supreme in the far corner of the hotel lobby - is literally off the charts. How good is it? I was in town for business for two days - and I skipped multiple other restaurant suggestions just to come back and sit at this slick, dark wood bar that evokes a mid-century Byzantine watering hole that conjured the roaring ‘20’s whole serving up modern cocktails and a fab menu. I was on a beer trek, but I also sample a few inspired drinks. The staff was incredibly versatile and super engaging, so I had pelas t and information conversations. On the food side, I urge you to try the fried chicken sandwich - a tour de force of crusty batter encapsulating a juicy breast that just aches for the luscious leaves and comforting bun that surround it. Get the fries as a side, which really complete the gastropub experience. The Roost lobby is cavernous but cozy, a perfect blend of upscale accoutrements with divine and even subtle details that make it beyond upscale. And yet it’s all unassuming. Be sure to check out the back alley for some inspiring sculpture and mural work. Such killer ambience. Don’t leave town without hitting this joint. I would valet park or Uber, but there are parking garages in arm’s reach.

The drinks and atmosphere are unmatched. Marcus took amazing care of us and my fiance said he made the best espresso martini she’s ever had! One of our favorite places downtown!

I once heard someone complain that Detroit was a city being propped up a watch company, which they meant as insult . The way though that Rock and Shinola have redesigned buildings without making them feel like shopping malls is nothing short of amazing. The tiling, decore, art and seasonal decorations are all great. The bar has a small but decent enough food menu if you're looking for a casual place to come before a game or food to go. Definitely drop in.

Beautifully spaced bar inside the lobby of The Book Tower. It’s a perfect place to lounge as there’s several couches, tables, and surrounding artwork. The bartenders are very nice and engaging. If you’re waiting on reservations for Le Suprême or Kamper’s or need a calm bar to have a drink, this is the place to be.

Oh my you Bar Rotunda , You! What a jewel you are! Not only have you kept promises the mayor had to make Detroiters proud but you really do deliver! Ali at the bar should be the spokesperson for this entire bar and Book Tower Roost building because she immediately makes you feel welcome and lets you know what’s up! You make us visiting from LA feel embraced like a local. I recommend a solid glass of Cabernet Sauvignon before exploring the rest of the historic book building as their us a rooftop when seasons allow, a whiskey bar (alladan) and wait for it …. An underground omakase bar called Herokesan! The music in the lobby of the rotunda is fantastic Disco meets Detroit Motown meets rolling beats that make you want to groove! Nick the bartender is your new best friend and Ali knows exactly what to do while curating your incredible evening here. Merci, Rotundonites!

Bar Rotunda is a cool spot in the “lobby” of the newly rennovated Book Tower. The cocktail menu is nice, however the experienced bartenders can pretty much make any cocktail you could think of. We had the bees knees and espresso martinis. Both drinks were delicious and perfectly balanced. A great spot for a date night or happy hour!

Perfect little coffee, food, and pastries spot in Detroit. Hidden in plain sight. Located inside the Book Tower. Incredible espressos. Great service. Dime lighting. Really stunning inside 🕯️

Yelp
I come here a lot; normally to have a cocktail or take someone when I wish to impress them. The bartenders are always really nice, friendly, and make a wonderful drink. The food is their all day menu but they have breakfest too. I just ordered the French onion. Excited to try. Parking is street or valet, Ambiance is dark, moody, and where it's ok to come alone, with friends or on a date.

Yelp
This place is inside the lobby of the beautiful book tower so you already know ambiance is 10/10. We decided to grab a drink here while we waited for a table at Aladdin Sane downstairs. It was a Saturday night and there was a live jazz band playing which was really nice. We decided to order an espresso martini after the bartender said it was one of their most popular drinks. I wasn't expecting much after seeing that their espresso martinis came out of a machine but boy was I wrong! It was probably one of the best espresso martinis I've had in Detroit and I've had them all. So if you're in the area and want to grab a nice cocktail in a beautiful building definitely check this place out!

Yelp
My friend and I waited here while we were waiting for the rooftop located in the same building to seat us. I got a beer, my friend got a cocktail, and we both shared oysters and the deviled eggs. The oysters were soooooo good. Fresher than what I was expecting. A little pricey for half a dozen but the quality was there. They actually let us pick if we wanted them from the east or west coast. The deviled eggs we didn't like so much. They were ok but I could taste the mustard in the mixture. It was too creamy for liking. They were also topped with trout eggs, something I'm not used to. The menu does say trout is on the deviled eggs but I think this part was in French. A language I didn't understand for sure. Still it didn't taste bad just wish the filling wasn't so creamy. The inside is very cute and gives a fancy vibes. Perfect for a quick drink and light bite.
