Talk about ruling the roost! The Bar Rotunda at the Roost Hotel in the Book Tower is easily Detroit’s hippest place to sip away the hours in high style. And the food - courtesy of Le Supreme in the far corner of the hotel lobby - is literally off the charts.
How good is it? I was in town for business for two days - and I skipped multiple other restaurant suggestions just to come back and sit at this slick, dark wood bar that evokes a mid-century Byzantine watering hole that conjured the roaring ‘20’s whole serving up modern cocktails and a fab menu.
I was on a beer trek, but I also sample a few inspired drinks. The staff was incredibly versatile and super engaging, so I had pelas t and information conversations. On the food side, I urge you to try the fried chicken sandwich - a tour de force of crusty batter encapsulating a juicy breast that just aches for the luscious leaves and comforting bun that surround it. Get the fries as a side, which really complete the gastropub experience.
The Roost lobby is cavernous but cozy, a perfect blend of upscale accoutrements with divine and even subtle details that make it beyond upscale. And yet it’s all unassuming. Be sure to check out the back alley for some inspiring sculpture and mural work. Such killer ambience.
Don’t leave town without hitting this joint. I would valet park or Uber, but there are parking garages in arm’s reach.
