Where to Go Eat in Chula Vista | Eater San Diego

"With a sizeable beer list focused on craft brews, this “nameless” Downtown Chula Vista watering hole is a must for any beer geeks looking for a hard-to-find pour. Bar Sin Nombre’s program regularly features smaller standout brewers from across the U.S. on its 40-tap setup. Sours by Colorado brewers Crooked Stave and imperial stouts by Sacramento-based Moksa are among the latest guests to this establishment. Local food truck Corazon de Torta supplies eats on select nights." - Mario A. Cortez

They do not sell food, they have chips available. Good variety of beer. Michelitro and Two Tonws is a good refreshing option.

Jon Browne

Google
The owner/ bartender was super helpful in picking out a nice sour beer. The atmosphere was chill. 4 televisions playing different things from sports to comedies. 2 retro gaming tvs.

Google
So this place has a huge menu of craft beers on tap with some surprisingly curated selections. Attentive service and friendly staff. Good place to for some great drink.

AnotherChoice Forus

Google
Tap house with friendly and generous owner. Keeping one of the most Varietal selections in San Diego. From local California and national breweries Located on 3rd ave filled with eateries. Always a must to stop by and drink dessert. You know us adults who choose our sweets 😋 😉 😏 😜

Chris Morrow

Google
Opens at 5pm. The owner might take the time to tell you his philosophy of a great beer list.

Limon Global

Google
Can't give a fair rating - I've only been there once. The wine beer wasn't to my liking because it's just wine posing as beer.

Google
So many beer options on tap and by the bottle!

Google
Fun place, atmosphere. Micheladas, beer great! Love the food trucks that show up. 👍😋

Yelp
Love this place! One of the best tap rooms in the county, always with a great selection of dark beers! Plus in a hopping area! Friendly staff and a lot of fun.

Yelp
Nice spot for a good cold beer and micheladas are very good too. They have Super Nintendo video games you can play at the tables. Great service makes you want to come back. And very chill ambiance good spot to watch a padres game.

Yelp
Awesome spot to drink a beer on 3rd ave. The retro video games are a plus and they have plenty of seating and patio room. The service was good and their tap list was pretty solid. Definitely a go to spot in Chula

Yelp
Great spot in Chula!!! Drop by to see their beer menu which does not disappoint, with lots of IPA and Hazys to pick from. They also have a pretty good michelada mix if you're in the mood for one. Plenty of high stools seating inside, with a couple of tables. Service is always great as well!!

Yelp
Great bar and amazing staff. So many options to drink and enjoy. Very chill vibes and always fun.

Yelp
Went here with a gal pal of mine on a whim at night, the place is a decent size with good amount of seating. More of a bar atmosphere, music was good. Bar tenders were attentive, didn't take too long to get your drink, however, the drinks are measured overpriced for not hooking it up IMO. I suppose they're following the rules set forth by the establishment and I respect that but if you're trying to get a good buzz this ain't it, or you'll be paying too dollar before you get there. Bathrooms were pretty clean which is a plus, as it is 3rd Ave parking is kinda meh. Nothing impressive, probably wouldn't make it a choice to go back though, unless a friend invites me, but if you're looking for a good place to chill and relax with friends this is ok, they also have outdoor seating so you can drink Al fresco. Just not my vibe
google avatar

Melissa P.

Yelp
It's so hard to find sour beers on tap, which is part of the reason I was so excited to come across their menu. They have a great selection of sour beers!
google avatar

Yelp
Very sketchy bartenders.. definitely did not expect the disrespect I received. Watch your belongings at this place .
google avatar

Yelp
This is now my new favorite chill spot. The atmosphere is awesome, not too crowded, tons of selection on draft beer, and bonus, the staff, they are amazing, especially Morgan, she was awesome. Definitely will come back. They also have different food trucks and you can enjoy your beer and outside food. This place is a winner.
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
Great place with great beer selection. They also have video game systems with Mario on two tables for people to play. Music playing is also awesome. The night i went they played Morrissey. I will definitely go back soon.
google avatar

Holly P.

Yelp
Friday night, only a couple people in, ALL TVs set to the Padres game....and the individual working was unwilling to turn even one tv to a hockey playoff game. Mind you, no one appeared to be actively watching the game besides perhaps the person working. Won't be back.
google avatar

Cliff P.

Yelp
This place has the best beers on 3rd ave. I highly recommend! No music but the beer makes up for it

Yelp
This is a hidden gem for San Diego's beer scene. I came here on a whim when I heard they had some unique beers on tap. I'm a huge fan of pastry stouts and lambics so when I saw beers from Angry Chair and Cantillon, I was shocked. They have a great variety of beers on tap and the staff is always happy to answer questions or offer suggestions. Bonus points for the Super Nintendo setup on the side. I'll be back whenever I make the trek down to Chula Vista. This is a must stop for craft beer nerds.
google avatar

Quentin M.

Yelp
Would give zero if I could asked the beer tender what hazy was on tap and he simply pointed to the tap list very far away that no one with clear vision could read. Skipped my order moved onto the next guest. Asked for his name said I'm not giving it to you. As I walked out beer tender pointed at his eyes with aggressive fashion. Not the best look you guys, you are beer caterer not crafters get your employees in line before it gets out of hand.
google avatar

Josh F.

Yelp
Always an interesting selection of beers here. I'd say vibe is a bit of a mix between a dive bar and a brewery. They've definitely put in the effort to make it unique. I'd appreciate more food options or maybe just having food vendors more regularly, but overall a great spot. I also appreciate it being dog friendly.

Yelp
Pros: - $5 Micheladas - Attentive, friendly and genuinely nice bartender (Nick) - Patrons were all nice and friendly - Saturday night and wasn't crazy busy Cons: - None really. I can see it getting overly crowded on a busy night but that wasn't the case so this doesn't really count as anything. Where did all these microbreweries come from?! I'm loving the quantity, quality and availability! If you stay long enough to try every beer on the menu, there is another place to walk to that has beers you've not tried before. It was great and will likely come here instead of the Gaslamp. The Gaslamp has become what the strip in Las Vegas has become for me, the place you only go to if you have family in town to play tour guide. I'd probably come here for a middle of the week drink, HH or even a Saturday night, which we did. It's just CHILL. My niece and her hubby came out to hang and we first started off at Thr3e Punks and wound up over here afterwards. We happen to snag 3 seats at the bar and turned out to be the best seats in the house bc we were able to watch the crazy number of Micheladas that were being made throughout the night and I literally did not move from this spot except to empty my bladder to make more room for more Micheladas. I walked in to this place excited to try their in-house beers but ended up swimming in Micheladas bc they're that GOOD and you can't beat the price. The rim has tajin and I'm pretty sure it's the 32 oz mug that goes for $5. So. Good. I mean, if you don't like Micheladas, any tomato drinks or even tajin, you won't like it but I do :) Our bartender, Nick, was the nicest guy. Chatted it up w/ us but still tending to other patrons. One weird thing that I noticed was that they store kegs in the restrooms. I hope they're just "decoration" bc that's weird. Def be back.

Jean R.

Yelp
I have been coming here for the past couple of months, Erick and Javi have been so friendly, and are some of their very welcoming and chill bartenders. When available the pizza they offer is pretty awesome. Also a good bar for a little daytime book reading.

Yelp
Bar sin nombre has always been good to us. They have the biggest menu on third ave and a lot of other beer houses. I LOVE this place they always carry fire from some of my favorite breweries... and this new outdoor 6 distance setup is sicccc!! I like this vibe for the summer months it's pretty chillin. I'm so happy they're open again #chulavistastrong
google avatar

Cristina S.

Yelp
Michelada!!! $5 Yes!! If you're tired of too spicy, too tomato-y, or just whatever is wrong with the micheladas you have had give this place a chance. The michelada has a tajin rim and a simple taste. They use a different beer, hamms, and it brings a different taste that everyone needs to try out. The atmosphere is usually really calm and the music is loud enough to fill the room but not over whelming. There is bar seating and two giant tables for bigger parties. I love the big open windows that also have seating which is great to watch the world go by or at least the people. There are four large televisions that are usually playing different shows, games, or Netflix. Also the two giant tables have old school video games! So bring your A game with your friends, family, or the stranger next to you. This place has awesome happy hours and events. Monday $4 michelada of course Sunday is live music at 4 Tuesday is trivia at 7 Wednesday is live music by Escalera at 7:30 Corazon de torts when they can make it Love this place.

Aaron C.

Yelp
Sunday afternoon i stroll by for a drink and Thomas made the most amazing michelada I've ever had in my life lol as a Mexican man who has traveled all over Mexico and tried all types of micheladas I was very pleased to have the perfect michelada here at bar sin nombre and highly recommend this drink.

Yelp
We popped into Bar Sin Nombre and although the selection was pretty expansive, there was an odor that I could not get passed. The bartender was generous with their time talking with us about their selection, but the beer was only moderately cold, and the glass itself had a funky taste - not sure if the smells over took my taste or if it was the water that was used to clean the glass, but it was gross. I drank about 1/3 of my beer and left. 1 star because the bartender was nice, and the other star for the selection. I see others have complained about the smell - not sure what it is.
google avatar

Trent N.

Yelp
Horrible service, boring/dirty atmosphere. Wanted to hurry up and finish my drink so I could leave, but there was a UF(loating)O so I didn't bother. Gross.
google avatar

Scarlett D.

Yelp
Went 15 minutes before closing seeing if they did last call, the short answer is NO. The bartender seemed super under the influence because he poured us our beers, saw us take a sip and then ID-ed. Then we sat at a small table and he followed us and ID-ed US AGAIN. NEVER coming back.
google avatar

Enrique H.

Yelp
Micheladas are bomb.. sucks you don't open on taco Tuesday when the food truck is out side your door.. and when do we have to stop paying for that hot dog and chip combo? Just saying
google avatar

Cynthia H.

Yelp
Overall, no breweries or bars really stand out on third Avenue for me except this one. The amount of beers they have on tap is wild and amazing. I love sours and they had around 10 when I came in which had me starry eyed. There's a small amount of seating inside but tons outside. We had someone set up a heater for us without asking which was super nice and thoughtful because it was clear I was cold. I had a rose sour and then a blackberry cider that were both delicious. There's something here for everyone, I saw some wine bottles also and cans so this is definitely a great spot that stays open late too.
google avatar

K W.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place. They have an amazing tap list that is always changing. A diversity of beer styles ensures that everyone in your party will have something to enjoy. They also have a solid wine list, which I appreciate. Friendly/fun vibes. The staff is friendly and helpful with recommendations. Melissa does a great job behind the bar on Fri/Sat. There is no sign on the front but you can't miss it. I've also never had an issue with parking. If you haven't been to BSN yet it's definitely worth the trip!
google avatar

Griffin T.

Yelp
It's a shame that this place is all the way in Chula Vista, because if it were closer to my neighborhood I would make a point to go there more often. Regardless, for those of you spoiled enough to live nearby, this should become a regular fixture of your going out routine. Rarely do beer bars have such an extensive list that includes more familiar beers as well as rare finds, and even more rarely are there beers I haven't heard of (this is not a subtle brag). They've got old school video games. As advertised, the bar does not have a name or any signage out front. They've got a variety of merch available. They had a live DJ spinning some vinyl.
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
I guess I finally understand why this place has no name... cause it is the place with no name.... got it! Pros? Lots of options Coffee on tap Beers on tap from all over Tons of wines Game boys at the tables Lots of open air Cons? A bit on the pricier side Often overcrowded Not a ton of comfortable seating
google avatar

Daniel S.

Yelp
This place totally rocks and is a nice touch for the 3rd Ave District! We trek down from North Park for their beer selection and there is always something awesome pouring. It is a must for the true beer geek and they definitely support the local SD craft scene. It is a clean place and not pretentious with basic decor and non-arrogant beertenders you often get stuck with. They do have old school video games and the crowd can vary quite a bit. We also dig the apparel and bought a hoodie. :)
google avatar

Abigail W.

Yelp
Great music, great atmosphere, great eat, this place is great! Very big beer selection. They have old school video games and it's cool.
google avatar

Erika B.

Yelp
Horrible service you know that they unhappy to help you... rude bartender ...I was only customer front of the bar and she not even Said " Hi" this is the only place I haven't been cuz I'm live on the neighborhood ind I decided to stop today .. BAD DECISION...ass soon as I finish my beer I left .. NO GOOD VIBES
google avatar

Yelp
The people and the vibe are great! Huge selection of beer. I love hanging out on Wednesday night while there is live music.
google avatar

Erika T.

Yelp
Great brewery on Third Ave in Chula Vista! They have a pretty solid selection of craft beers and they even serve micheladas and mimosas here. They also have old school Nintendo games such as Mario Kart and Street Fighter which is a plus. Chula Vista is definitely up and coming with these breweries! You should definitely check it out.
google avatar

Yelp
Bar Sin Nombre is awesome. Yes it's usually a pretty good beer selection though not as much variety as someone who's not into hoppy beer would like, I'd imagine. They tend to lean more on hazies and sours, and less toward lagers/wheats and stouts. Also just a heads up the place is usually pretty cold inside, lot of marble and cement. Which will actually be nice during the summer. It's loud in here almost constantly which is no fault to their own. They've usually got music up loud and a lot of people talking. It's a good vibe imo. Also it's right across from Don Pedro's, come on. They could do to be better staffed, though. Went for a beer last night and it was one person behind the bar with about 12 people waiting in line for their order. Eventually someone came in to help out the lone bartender but as someone who's worked in the service industry for a long time it makes me mad to see yet another place leave their employees out to dry like that. Anyway just make sure you come in if you're looking for a good San Diego pint. Their selection is from all around the county and then some. And the NES classic and Super NES classic they have hooked up to some TV's are fun.
google avatar

Louis O.

Yelp
Yo Yo large and I mean large beer selection. Like 40 beers on tap and to top it off a DJ spinning with real vinyl records. Gotta visit this spot!!
google avatar

Jason L.

Yelp
Cool, open bar in old downtown Chula. Minimalist decor meets a worldly taplist. Good mix of sours, saisons, stouts and hop forward goodness. They also slip in a whale every now and again as part of the ever-changing menu. Cool spot, nice guys, good stuff.
google avatar

Dwain D.

Yelp
Fun space in the heart of the Chula Vista Third Avenue Village. Lots of beers to choose from, and they have porters and stouts, which I prefer. I was poured a Guinness, and when I didn't like the taste (I do like Guinness, it was probably an issue with that batch, or the long journey the beer took from Ireland), they poured me a different beer, no questions asked. The young lady at the bar this evening was very polite and friendly. She was the one who helped me with the beer.
google avatar

Kelly M.

Yelp
This place is great! We just went for our first time on Sunday night. The bartender was nice and offered for me to try a beer then she gave me her suggestions. The beers we had were great of course! We played video games for a bit and it was so fun and hilarious! It was one of the quieter bars on Sunday so we were to able to pull out our computer and get some work done. We really likes the chill environment and will definitely be coming back to try a more lively night!
google avatar

Felicia G.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places to have a date night or just hang out. What's not to like?! We can play Super Mario Bro's on the Nintendo, listen to great music, and enjoy a great selection of beer that is hard to find anywhere else. This place is amazing!
google avatar

Angel R.

Yelp
Some Reggae on the system super friendly staff and good beer, got to love this place. Prices are spot on.
google avatar

Mike G.

Yelp
Bar Sin Nombre is SPECACTULAR! Their beer list is fire! I enjoy sours and they have more than a few on their list and often have something new to offer. For those of you who don't drink beer (I know there are a few of you out there) the bar also maintains an adequate wine list. The bar offers a great selection of bottles for patrons to partake in so keep that in mind. Third Avenue in Chula Vista has seen an influx of these type of bars so places like Bar Sin Nombre have increased in popularity. Parking can be limited. Be advised, DO NOT PARK in the lot behind the bar as it doesn't belong to them and the apartment complex locks it up after normal business hours and at that point you're SOL. Lastly, they have Nintendo and Super Nintendo with a host of games for your enjoyment. Let me know if you're trying to get rocked in Tecmo Bowl. Bo Jackson's Raiders over everyone. Cheers!

Stephanie M.

Yelp
Came here once for my bday and the service was horrible. I know the bartenders saw me and kept helping everyone else but me until my husband finally came and ordered for me. Went once and never thought about going back, especially now after reading allegations towards the owner. Do better for your community.
google avatar

Joseph M.

Yelp
First time customer today, Sunday noontime. Really nice experience during this Covid pandemic. Super clean environment. This business is 100% compliant with California Covid restrictions. We watched some football and enjoyed fantastic draft beers that were recommended by the knowledgeable staff. Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Lori T.

Yelp
Finally a great hangout spot where they serve wine! And beer too... super friendly staff and fun table games -- Donkey Kong! Also love that my fave taco shop is next door so good food was had by all. Hope to see more places like this pop up in cv
google avatar

Jon C.

Yelp
Came to go to 3 Punk Ales and stopped in here real quick. Seriously you have to come here if you love craft beer. Amazing variety of hard to find beers from all across the USA. Owner and bartender know their stuff. Best list I have seen in a long time. I tried so many beers I couldn't find anywhere and they were here. Great atmosphere and great people. A must go place not only in Chula Vista but in San Diego in general. Will be back FOR SURE!
google avatar

Gina R.

Yelp
Love this place great beer and friendly owner will definitely be back He now has $1.00 sandwiches come on by open today
google avatar

Beth M.

Yelp
Who would've thought old Chula Vista would be so happening? Stopped in for a quick beer and stayed for hours. Fun place. Good music. 49 different Beers and good wine list. We will be back!
google avatar

Jacqueline M.

Yelp
Jumbo michelada for $9! Pretty good !! Just wish it was a bit spicy but husband had a few beers and he liked them too.
google avatar

Darcie V.

Yelp
Love coming here for a beer or glass of wine!! Micheladas are only $5 and taste great. They host game nights so it can get loud and busy but it's really fun. You can also order food from the nearby restaurant and have it delivered to the bar
