"Bar Sinizki specializes in the kind of European fantasy that would make Rick Steves jealous: checkerboard floors, copper tile ceilings, a lot of white marble, and people who look like they take month-long holidays every summer enjoying brown butter pierogies and Fernet spritzes. The good news is it can easily be your fantasy, too. This bubbly all-day bistro in Atwater from the Elf Cafe people is walk-in only, so elbow up to the bar or find a table on the leafy patio where you can debate Sartre versus Camus over steak frites until last call at midnight." - brant cox, sylvio martins, cathy park
"If you’ve ever looked at Europeans and thought, “These people know a thing or two about leisure,” you’ll love the sidewalk scene at Bar Sinizki. The front patio at Atwater’s favorite Euro-style cafe doubles as the neighborhood’s front porch, where you can sip Campari spritzes and eat palm-sized pierogies glistening with browned butter. It’s walk-in only so it might take a while to get a table on weekends, but that also means time for loitering with a beverage in hand." - brant cox, sylvio martins, garrett snyder
"When a restaurant is as popular as Bar Sinizki, we typically don’t advise heading there for last-minute, drop-in dinners. This European bistro in Atwater Village is an exception. The moody cafe is walk-in-only, so whether you’re there with a date to eat brown butter pierogis or hoping to sit alone at the bar with a book and a burger, everybody puts their name on the sign-in sheet out front. There will almost certainly be a wait during peak hours, but look for the two-top tables on the sidewalk. That’s where you can drink wine and hang out until your name is called." - sylvio martins, brant cox, garrett snyder, cathy park
"Nancy Meyers couldn’t conjure up a more cinematic date spot than Bar Sinizki. This all-day bistro in Atwater Village feels ripped from an early aughts European postcard (back when people still sent postcards.) There’s a shrub-filled sidewalk patio and a retro bar area with checkerboard floors and copper-tiled ceilings. You and your date will sip Boulevardiers while snacking on trout tartines and brown butter perogies. They don’t accept reservations, but even during prime time, you won’t have to wait more than a few minutes. If there is a line, walk down to Baby Battista for a quick glass of wine to start the night." - sylvio martins, brant cox, cathy park
"Even if Bar Sinizki’s steak frites didn’t come with a dollop of tarragon butter, it’d still be one of the best in town. The fact that it does, however, pushes this photogenic plate of steak and potatoes into elite status. The meat has a distinct peppery charred crust, and the crisp medium-cut fries are what we wish all fast food fries tasted like. Tying it all together is that butter, which slowly dribbles over everything like hot fudge on a sundae." - sylvio martins, brant cox, cathy park, garrett snyder
