Bar Tonyina - Review - Mestalla - Valencia - The Infatuation

"This over-decade-old cozy tapas bar does tapas with a twist—like tuna tartare wrapped in wagyu or a roast pork pepito punched up with sun-dried tomato mayo. There’s no fryer, no smoke, just low-temp cooking, clever sauces, and deep flavor. You’ll start with chips and a beer, then get sideswiped by things like “false lasagna” (a carpaccio-style wagyu and tuna tartare mashup with truffle and pine nuts) or Thai duck with peanut-soy glaze over zucchini spaghetti. Even their sandwiches—like the pastrami pepito—feel like a little gift. This place keeps regulars coming back with kind prices and an atmosphere that lands somewhere between neighborhood bar and experimental test kitchen. If you’re near the beach in El Cabanyal, their sister spot, Tonyina Barra at Mercader, has many of the same bites with a sea breeze and a cold vermouth. RESERVE A TABLE" - David Neimanis

Suggest booking. There was a good range of options for share plates, including some quality non-seafood options for those on our table who prefer not to eat fish, and we enjoyed everything we ate. The wine was also good. However, there was limited choice for non-alcoholic beverages. There was an English menu available which was helpful but not as up to date at the Spanish menu so some things we had selected were not actually available. This was fine, though, as the staff were friendly and able to suggest alternatives. They also did their best to accomodate our limited Spanish vocabulary - I suggest using the Spanish menu and the image translation option in the google translate app. Overall, we really enjoyed dinner and it was an easy walk from the metro.

Incredible place to taste original Spanish food. Is kind expensive, but the quality is good enough to pass the economic pain we were into for one bocadillo, a tosta, four tapas, plus dessert and two wine glasses (54€ on shared menu). The worst of the night was the dessert spon, and the best one "the Vieiras" (strongly recommended). The restaurant itself is beautiful, and the staff is very kind.

Great place - the food is super tasty the wine list is great too. Service is friendly and we had a great night - the egg, potato and truffle dish is seriously delicious - as is the duck. We liked everything !

High expectations for correct dishes eventually. For a restaurant named Tuna, the number of dishes is rather limited. Fortunately, these dishes (carpaccio and ceviche) are good and made with quality products. The ceviche is very good with a well-balanced flavor, however, the taste of the tuna gets a little lost in the dish's flavorful sauce. On the other hand, the "smorzaret" is to be avoided if you're watching your waistline: the fat overpowers everything. What a shame. The tuna-themed decor is pleasant. Service was just okay; staff should call a focaccia a focaccia and bread bread. And please, clean water bottles are a must. It goes a long way in reassuring customers. Overall, a disappointing experience but the lunch option with a decently priced menu would be my go-to for a next time.

We had the menu del día. 4 courses all delicious! Small, intimate space, great service! Food was fresh and delicious with a great wine list. Will definitely be back!

If you’re looking for a menu del dia in Valencia you MUST try this one! Bar Tonyina was so affordable I considered paying more! €16 for four delicious expertly cooked courses. We LOVED the watermelon salad, the hake with octopus and black wheat and the cheesecake dessert. But to be honest it was all wonderful. You definitely need to book as the place was very busy at lunch. We booked online, the process was very easy. Staff were friendly, personable, quick and efficient.

A MUST when in Valencia. It's just delicious food, amazingly cooked. Wow. It was an explosion of taste. Make sure to make a reservation just cause they may be busy at times. The food is just AMAZING!

Yelp
This was the absolute culinary highlight of my visit to Valencia and I must say I visited even a Michelin starred restaurant... but this was way better! The freshness of the food, the comforting taste of traditional dishes twisted slightly to make them unique... It was a true experience. I suggest to start with the home made vermúd while you get inspired from the seasonal menu. The service is the sweetest and the location very nice and quiet, out of the main roads. Definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
After two weeks touring in Spain, this was the best tapas restaurant so far. White wine was very good, tapas menu exquisite! Only point of criticism was the pate de foie gras which was part of the menu, undiscussed/surprise. Our party didn't want that - animal abuse - but the staff recovered very well, thanks to our lovely waitress. We weren't the only ones who have discovered this treasure; advisable to make reservations.
