Bar V was highly recommended to me for its food and ambiance, so I went in with high expectations. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to them.
The wine list was fairly limited, and the service was the bigger disappointment. Our server felt disengaged, rushed, and somewhat dismissive — the opposite of the relaxed, welcoming energy you hope for at a neighborhood bar. There were no thoughtful recommendations, and everything moved quite slowly. We ended up ordering a couple of appetizers and one main before deciding to continue our evening elsewhere in the West Village, where the overall experience felt much more polished.
I can see how some people might enjoy it, especially since it’s a bit more affordable than other spots nearby. But if you’re looking for a high-quality experience in WV with attentive service, this likely isn’t the place.
