We absolutely loved our experience and were not disappointed by anything. The food was delicious, service was on point and timing was spot on. Service staff were considered and assisted with ordering and any questions we had. They were very accommodating with dietary requirements and made sure there was no dairy in any of the dishes. The cocktail was delightful and fresh. Local wine was great as well. Would definitely recommend getting in early for a booking.

Holy crap! This place is my new favourite Hobart Restaurant!!!!! (Context ex chef of 20+ yrs exp including Nobu Melb) Service - excellent, personable, genuine, relatable & professional. Atmosphere - extremely comfortable & relaxed, 0 pretentiousness. It's all about a fantastic relaxed food & beverage experience. This place is a chef's place to eat. EVERY dish we ordered was excellent. Harpuka Tempura (weakest dish, soft batter but still excellent) Kingfish sashimi Tuna sashimi Oysters Yakiniku platter But here's where we get above & beyond excellent........ Venison tataki. Oh f..K! This is awesome! The toasted black & white sesame on this, pow!, add fine cut spring onion & a very clean ponzu, Bam! Then the seared blue venison slices! Kazam! A deceptively simple dish which is simply exquisite!!!!! Crispy Brussel Sprouts- milk poached (guessing) then crispy fried garlic slices on crispy outer gratinated brussel sprouts in I don't know what flavours- holy ****!!! This dish is absolutely gorgeous! In 30+ plus years of eating brussel sprouts dishes I don't think I've had better! Now the absolute King 👑! This was all an accident. I had accidentally ordered the perfect drink Izakaya's Negroni. Next accident - we thought we had ordered our fill with the previous dishes, then we thought, "We'll get just one more" & orderd the dish that caught my eye from the start but I got distracted from it & forgot to order it. Pork Jowl This dish is a next level event!!! I'm not even going to describe it. Get a house Negroni, order the Pork Jowl & understand food ecstacy for yourself. That. Was. A. Life. Food. Experience. Thankyou Bar WA Izakaya, very much.

Very nice Japanese fusion spot—we enjoyed it so much we came back twice during our holiday. The food was fresh and flavorful, with a good variety of options. Prices were decent for the quality, and the service was lovely, especially from the blond girl working in the mornings—very friendly and attentive. Would definitely return

It was our second time visiting Bar Wa Izakaya as we are from Melbourne. Our first visit was amazing and other friends who later dined here also enjoyed it. We thought we would return again this time, but unfortunately nearly all the dishes were very salty tonight and we struggled to eat it (we normally like our food well seasoned). The beef and chicken skewers were dry making the meat chewy/hard. The oysters were fresh and with the 1/2 price happy hour, it made it a little more affordable. Ambience was good and staff were friendly and helpful. It is on the more expensive side given the serving sizes, but we wouldn’t have minded if the dishes were better seasoned (a lot less salty).

This is a crazy popular Japanese restaurant in Hobart, so you gotta make a reservation before you come, even at lunch time. It would be great if there would be a foreigner-friendly way to do this, as we did not have a phone number to call. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the ramen. Highly recommended!

Google
Hosted our wedding dinner at Bar Wa Izakaya and it couldn't of been more perfect! The food was exceptional and the atmosphere was BUMPIN' We cannot write a review that exemplifies how much we love this restaurant. Our wedding guests have all said the food was a highlight, the drinks were delicious and after the dinner they cleared the room to make a small dancefloor for us. Would highly recommend to anyone in Hobart. I've travelled to many countries and eaten at many restaurants and Bar Wa Izakaya may be my favorite place to visit. So happy with our choice for the dinner venue and can't wait to visit again. I also want to thank Megan, Amelia, and the other bar/wait staff for absolutely pulling out the stops and making it a night to remember. You guys are amazing, your communication and professionalism were perfect.

Google
As the choice for the last dinner in Tas - this was a good one Half the price for the oysters during 4-6pm happy hour with a drink. The Baked Umi Oysters were my favorite which the staff recommended. The drink I had was the Golden Sour - was really good but the price I did not expect <too expensive even with that good a taste> The last one for me not worthy at all was the Minced-Chicken sckewer. Although I did get it wrong with the one I saw but still - just really bland even with its side sauce. Overall with the atmosphere and oysters - still a good place and food

Google
Best meal we had in Tassie by far. We didn’t have a booking but were able to grab two seats at the window with help from a very nice staff member. All the food we had was delicious and so much flavour, best karaage chicken ever. Even the side of greens had the most incredible sauce on top, we couldn’t stop eating it. Cocktails also delicious, their version of a Bloody Mary is perfectly spicy and I’d have 10 if I could handle that much alcohol

Yelp
Make reservations online or try to walk in early in the evening. Local hot spot and one of the very few places open late. Solid eats, definitely do the crudo, fried wallaby, chicken thighs, soba with fish collar and wagyu skewers. Skip the beef tataki. The okonomiyaki was the HUGE, like enough to feed two people. We over ordered and ended up bringing a lot of the meal home - tastes great the next day also and even brought it on our flight to Sydney - traveled well and fed us for three meals! Tasted authentic and the vibe inside was so fun and unique.

Yelp
Do not know why I go to Japanese restaurants when I do not understand the menu or enjoy the food. However you should go to this place for the ambiance and the cocktails. I had vegan Ramon which was salty but tasted good. Chicken was fine and apparently fish also up there. But cocktails well done and unusual ( as far as I am concerned).

Yelp
This place was by far the most popular restaurant we tried during our time in Hobart and definitely for good reason. As another review mentioned definitely make a reservation ahead of time. The food is well-presented and very tasty. We tried a lot of dishes and the crowd favorites were definitely the oysters, the pork jowl, and the meat platter. The cocktails were creative and the beer selection was solid. For service they check on you regularly but we resorted to getting our own new water jugs out of the fridge since they were pretty busy. We found ordering through the QR code at the table was much faster than asking your server for anything too. At the end just go up to the bar and ask to settle the bill. Restaurant was clean and had cool decorations.

Yelp
BAR wa Izakaya was a wonderful place to attend after a long day walkin around in Hobart, Tasmania Australia. The bar is a Japanese Izakaya serving up some tasty grilled chicken skewes and alcoholic beverages. We decided to enter around 930 PM on a weeknight with a group of 10 and we were seated fairly fast. The host sat us at our large table and took our drink orders. Bar Wa is open late to the community compared to all the other local establisments. We went ahead and ordered fresh oysters and alot of Chicken yakitori grilled chicken skewers. For our drinks we went ahead and ordered local Australian draft beer and flavored chu hi's. The food and drinks came out quick and I must say the chicken was looking great that was freshly grilled and had a nice grilled char to them. The beers were light, fresh and crisp that were at the perfect temperature to wash down the grilled chicken. The oysters were beautifuly laid over a bed of ice and had a lime to compliment them with hot sauce. The chu hi's were to sweet for me that appeared to have alot of flavored syrup mixed with the soju. Overall great place to go to with friends when your having a evening out in Hobart. The drinks and food were all delightfully good with superb customer service!

Yelp
Portion sizes are kept well sized enough to be shared amongst 2 people leaving enough room for more dishes. Every dish I had was tasty and fresh. The highlight was the scallops for me, they were juicy and tasty combined with the red salt. Chicken skewers were a standout and so was the edamame. Standout by default: oysters and salmon sashimi Price point for all my dishes was approximately 80.00 Photo not shown: 1 Asahi beer

Yelp
Bar Wa is ok for drinks, great for dinner, and FABULOUS for ramen. Ok for drinks, because my first experience of the bar involved the bartender telling us the regular cocktail maker wasn't working so they couldn't really make us anything exciting. I live for exciting drinks. Why would you let me down like this? Great for dinner--I went with three girlfriends a few months ago and they put together a tasting menu for us, which was so delicious and well-chosen! There wasn't a dud dish amongst the many we were served. I highly recommend turning the choice over to the chefs if you are allowed the opportunity. FABULOUS for ramen. Bar Wamen lunch menu is my absolute jam. I haven't been there enough to work my way through the entire menu, despite it not being huge, but that's the dream. Huge bowls, crazy tasty goodies, flavourful broth. Nothing bad about it. The only bad thing is that you can only get it at lunchtime! I forgive them, though, because you can get it for lunch any day of the week these days.

Yelp
Good place, cute ambiance, nice owner, very accommodating service. Food was solid, but not remarkable. Salad was the biggest disappointment. Potato salad with kewpie mayo was the highlight. Wine was strong. Prices were fair.

Yelp
Great food, the wait is never to long, and the best part, open late. Plenty of choices on the menu, but easy to get stuck with old favourites. Staff are super friendly.

Yelp
A bunch of great food. Particular loved the Nicholas karage chicken and the tempura mushrooms. Great atmosphere, really cool ceiling and good service. Loved the Japanese food.

Yelp
Kitchen is open all day. Solid three and a half for food, big range of whiskeys, chill, laid back vibe.
