My wife found this winery through an organization called Harvest Host and since it was on our way west and we were pulling our Airstream, we decided to stop, drink some wine and camp over night. The wine was quite good, the staff was equally good and the view was beautiful, since the winery has a view of the Palo Duro Canyon. If you're a member of HH or Boondockers Welcome, you can camp overnight. There are no hookups.

Ok, im from California, so forgive the wine snob.......No need. The Red flight had very generous pours. We really enjoyed the 2018 Pinot and the 2018 Cab. 2018 Fav was a bit too fruit forward my tastes. The Rousanne was slightly tart for my wife.

Google
What a great wine tasting. Great atmosphere nice and relaxing. They even allow pets. What a great way to spend the day superior wine, tasting, and superior view.

Google
Loved this stop on our vacation to Palo Dura Canyon. Just a few miles away. Friendly, great view, and a glass of "Aerial' on the patio listening the Lithium Radio (IYKYK). We ordered a flight and let me just say....the pore was generous.

Beautiful view, delicious wine and an awesome host - we had a wonderful time. Thank you!

Google
We stopped to spend the night, just passing through Amarillo. It was great. The staff was incredibly accommodating., wine was excellent. They even let us bring our dogs inside because it was windy and cool outside. Monty was great, a old music lover for sure. Customers were bringing in old vinyl albums and Monty played them all. I only have negative, the music was too loud. But , overall loved the evening. We will definitely stop again on our way to Colorado. Thank you Monty and Payton. .

Google
Bar Z Winery is also a Harvest Host. They allow RV'ers to spend the night if they come into the winery and taste and purchase. That is a fantastic way to travel across the country. Loved their wines

Google
This is a really fun tasting room off the beaten path. Don’t be fooled, you literally have to take this semi-paved road back to this facility. The wines use Texas grown grapes and are very good. It’s a fun atmosphere inside and has a nice patio overlooking the countryside. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
This is a beautiful property at the edge of the Palo Duro Canyon, in close proximity to Canyon and Amarillo, Texas. This is a winery, as compared to a vineyard, so there are no grape vines on-site. It has a relaxing patio with small tables and, if you time it right, you can sip wine while watching the sunset. The friendly hostess gave us tastes of a few wines inside before we settled upon a bottle to take outdoors to the patio. (It was so good, we also purchased another bottle for later consumption!). The winery also offers formal tastings of four wines for $22, but we opted against these because of the price point. The property is down a long and private road in an upscale neighborhood, and is away from traffic. One thing made this a less than perfect experience. After we had been sitting there for a while, another patron asked the owner if he could pipe the music that was playing inside to the outdoor patio area. He complied and our peaceful time watching the evolving sunset was overtaken by loud music that wasn't to our liking. (I'm not sure that they noticed but quite a few patrons, including us, left soon after). For any RVers out there, this winery participates in Harvest Hosts. This host takes their participation seriously & even provides a brochure specifically for HH guests. (This was our 10th HH visit and the only time we received such a brochure). Make sure to make your reservation through HH to ensure that the gates will be open and to learn where to park. They have room for many vehicles, and the lot is quite flat and behind a locked gate. It felt secure. I believe that there were 6 RVs of various types and sizes the night we were there We saw wild deer on-site in the evening. (The canyon also has rattlesnakes, but we didn't see any on-site). The host also allows you to fill up water from their well. One additional negative, but this is on another RV guest, not the winery. The RV allowed their dog to run wild, unleashed. The dog scared me as it came into our area, unattended. I was bitten by a leashed dog a few years ago and continue to be apprehensive around unfamiliar dogs. The same dog also pooped in our area -- a fact that the owners were oblivious to. We recommend this winery - whether you have an Rv or not!

Yelp
Few places on earth make me as happy as Canyon, TX. Naturally, then, a winery in one of my favorite places on earth is a favorite by extension. They didn't have to try very hard to provide one of the best views in the country (you know, on account of the panoramic Canyon). Would recommend trying a wine flight, but be warned: this is not a "tasting" flight. It's 4 generous pours of your choice. Their Chardonnay was just lovely (this coming from the girl who avoids white wine almost completely). The Mourvèdre is a very interesting sip. Truly. It takes you on a journey, but not one that I'd want to follow all the way to the end of the glass (just personal preference). The Lil Hoss was pretty great. Expect West TX hospitality; it isn't gushy, but it is delightfully genuine and unique. I know it's not reasonable to expect grapes to be grown in this climate/terrain, but I was a little bummed that the juice is imported. Have no fear though, that amazing Canyon water is used to ferment it.

Yelp
Off the beaten path outside Canyon Texas, Bar Z is definitely worth a stop if you are in West Texas. Not far from Palo Duro Canyon Park, situated on a hilltop with expansive views of the area, there always a nice breeze up here (sometimes too windy :-) ) Wine is decent, and limited snacks available most of the time. Charcuterie boxes or microwave pizza's. Red, white and rose wines, I favor their reds ... a couple cabs, mouvedre, pinot noir, and a tempranillo. Indoor and outdoor tasting room with plenty of space and super dog friendly. When its open, the owner is usually there and he's a great guy you can sit with and talk about pretty much everything. Staff is great and friendly. This is a Harvest Host site, so there is plenty of parking, and a feew RV's there all the time doing overnights. Many of these folks are very interesting and worth sharing stories. Restrooms on site and live music some weekends. Def call before you vsit to see hours (gate to property is locked otherwise). Just a laid-back, nice winery and tasting room. Highly recommend.

Yelp
A worth while venue to have a glass of wine and relax in a family and well mannered dog friendly environment. It is a short drive outside from the City of Canyon and the Canyon itself with 100% Texas grown wine grapes. Being more partial to Red I prefer that to the White, but the White wine is worth having as well. Staff is always professional and doesn't push anything on anyone at all. Definitely coming back again.

Yelp
We stopped in on a blustery day, it's a super cute hang out with a couple space heaters which made it better! They let you in your own food so that's always nice. The bartender was friendly and helpful. Here's the the deal, the wines, in my opinion, were quite disappointing. We tried a flight of 4 and my parents had 3 different ones and they all were dry, tasted similar in the sense that they taste like a wine that has been open for a while. I was bummed that they didn't have an actual tasting option. When I think "tasting" I usually think of a sampling of 1 oz pours for $5 or so. Unfortunately the only option was a $20 flight of wine that wasn't very enjoyable for me. I realize that everyone has different tastes and wine can be subjective, this just wasn't for our group. If you do find that you like the wines it's a nice place to visit. They also offer veteran discounts which is cool.

Yelp
We found Bar Z through Harvest Hosts - and we really enjoyed our afternoon relaxing on the patio, letting our dog run free and tasting the wines. We were partial to the reds! The staff was terrific and our camping stay was fantastic. We met some locals as well as a few folks traveling like us. Thanks!

Yelp
Must see when you are in Canyon Texas. Met the love of my life here! Fruity wine and scenic views!

Yelp
Stopped in for a wine flight on our way through town and was charged $20 for a band cover charge when we sat inside, away from the band because it was way too loud and we were only there for 20 minutes. We were not aware of the cover charge until cashing out. As for the wine, it wasn't terrible but nothing to note.

Yelp
This is a relaxing place to unwind and try a few Texas wines. My husband and I each tried a flight, four generous pours for $22. The bartender chose bold reds for my husband, and he liked three out of the four (Little Hass was best). The ones I tried impressed me, for Texas grapes anyway. They offer many different options (and the bartender had a ton of restaurant ideas for us). They offer charcuterie boxes, and the place is dog friendly.

Yelp
We were excited to come but hopes we're dashed. We confirmed our reservation for Aug 24, 2923 and they confirmed it twice. We drove up to the gate, called the # for a code to open the gate......never got a response. We were there before 3. Called 8 times, text 2 times, emailed 1 time, fb post 1 time.....we idled there over 30 min before we went and had. Great time at Palo Duro Canyon for the night. Unless Bar Z had an emergency...thi was very very very poor service. It is 2 pm Aug 25th and we ha e still heard nothing from them. Really? You have service like this Bar z?..NOT What a horrible way to represent Harvest Host. Lisa and Brad Williams We don't know if the wine and food were good, we had no chance to get in. The service is terrible.

Yelp
A winery in Texas? Damn right, and somewhat hidden in the Panhandle. After hiking one day at PDC, we noticed a Bar Z billboard, when exiting the park. A winery in Canyon? Wife and I with perplexed looks, googled directions. It's a quaint, peaceful location, off a County Road, hidden in a nicer subdivision. You can't go inside (yep, Covid rules), but the outside patio, and tables in the grassy area, offer excellent views. NO food, but they are super cool with you ether bringing your own (which we did), or ordering pizza for delivery. We were pleasantly surprised with the wine. A Pinot Noir in Texas? Yep, and it was pretty good. You'll be in the $30-$40 range, after tax for a bottle (bottles only, due to Covid), but there are free water bottles on the patio. Dog friendly, and in fact, the Owner's dog (Hahn, I believe), made friends with my daughter. One minor complaint: It was Chicago cold outside on the evening we visited, and those really nice heaters outside, were not on for some reason. Who knows... Would I return? Yes, but on a slightly warmer day. Definitely a hidden gem, in Canyon.

Yelp
Beautiful, beautiful venue. Plenty of space and many tables. Two wines stood out to our group: Riesling (dry... but not too dry and very crisp and refreshing). 2016 Pinot Noir (perfectly balanced with more fruit than many Pinots.) I would have given five stars, but the black German Shepherd was loose on the premises and was barking at one in our party.

Yelp
Bar Z Winery was a nice place to relax after some good hiking at Palo Duro. The staff was attentive and the ambiance at sundown was romantic and intimate.

Yelp
I'm so glad my friend and I stopped at this winery while we were in town! The directions to get here take you down a long road to the winery that has a nice view over the canyon. We arrived at the winery late in the day, and it was just us and one man working which I'm assuming was the owner. He was so funny and had us laughing a lot! He recommended the Riesling which I really enjoyed, and even got a bottle to go! The view of the sunset from the outside was so nice after a long day of hiking. Very relaxing! Would definitely return, hopefully when we are able to do tastings again. I would love to try the wines this place has to offer!

Cindy P.

Yelp
Wine was very good and views are amazing. Service was great. Highly recommend visiting this winery

Yelp
Disclaimer: Haven't been to Bar Z, and it might be awesome, BUT.... They are listed as having fulfilled my Wall Street Journal Wine Club order this month. I'm short two bottles, and one of the ones I got has had the label stripped off. Might be Yellow Tail for all I know. Billed for the full amount, you understand, so it's a straight case of shipping me defective product. And taking my money.

Yelp
Top notch location to wind down after a day in the canyon. We went during COVID and had the whole place to ourselves. Met the owner who was helpful when choosing wines and found that like the other reviews, he is quite the character but friendly nonetheless. We enjoyed our 2016 Pinot Noir on top of a little lookout a few yards from the seating area at sunset. I highly recommend stopping here for a glass of wine and beautiful views.

Yelp
What a fantastic atmosphere! The scenery is hard to beat, and the wines are very good. Most of their wines are dry or very dry, so if you like sweeter wines this may not be your spot. My favorites were their Sangiovese and Riesling.

Yelp
I really enjoyed our visit to Bar Z Winery in Amarillo this past weekend. This is a local winery located just outside the Palo Duro Canyon. The owner was super nice and offered us samples of all of his bottled wine. We ended up purchasing a bottle to share at the location and we also purchased a bottle to take home. This would be a great place to have a picnic. Lots of other customers had brought their own cheese and fruit to accompany their wine. I look forward to returning next time we are in Amarillo.

Yelp
The wine here is terrible!!! I don't know why this place has so many stars. If you've had wine on the west coast from Cali, Washington, or Oregon, then don't waste your time here. The red flights were all the same color and all tasted like vinegar. The service was good, and so was the view. The owner happened to be at the winery when we were there and didn't give the time of day. Was too busy watching tv and eating his dominoes pizza that he ordered. Will definitely NOT be back.

Yelp
We went to the winery in person recently, the server poured our wine, and as we were paying, we woman informed us that we had to pay a mandatory $10 per-person cover charge to pay for a musical group we knew nothing about and had no interest in hearing. I protested, and struck a deal that we would drink our wine fast and leave before the group started to play, which we did. But really, what a terrible, disrespectful way to treat your guests... you should tell them up front, not as they hand over their payment, not as they pick up their full glasses, that there is a mandatory $10 per-person cover charge in force, then they can make a choice about whether to order or not. If I had known, I would have left. As it was, we left quickly and spent the rest of the evening at Joe Taco in Canyon. Updated 2/25/18: The problems have not been fixed, I still have no wine three weeks later, I have a guest coming in from Europe who was supposed to try some of our best Texas wines, and I am totally disappointed. Mid-day, 2/16/18: I am having issues with internet order fulfillment. I'm a member of their wine club, and I placed an order and my card was charged on 2/7/18, but it's 2/16/18 and I don't have any shipping confirmation yet. This is not the first time this has happened, on a past wine club shipment I waited and waited for my wine to come after they announced the shipment was going out, but I never got a tracking number, I had to call them on the phone because they don't always reply to email, and "ooops" they took my money but forgot to ship the product. Sorry, but there are lots of wineries, and I have better uses of my time than tracking down small consumer orders. I hope they fix this soon, or else I'm leaving the wine club.

Yelp
Wonderful stop after a day of hiking in Palo Duro. Good wines and a lovely. Owner is really kind and generous.

Yelp
What a delightful winery! My husband and I stopped at the Bar Z winery and so enjoyed the beautiful views while tasting some delicious wines. I particularly enjoyed the Howling Cow, a sweet white wine and my husband loved the 2016 Pinot Noir Stop by this beautiful winery, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
I love little local wineries! This place is a gem nestled atop the outskirts of palo duro canyon, it is an absolutely gorgeous setting! They have cute outdoor seating and a large screen tv and couch inside, several tasting tables and a little rollaway bar. There is also a private dining room area. They don't grow their own grapes here but rather use other texas wineries to do wonderful blends. They have a very flexible wine club that also will give you a good discount on other purchases, I got the cutest tee last time I was there! They encourage hosting events there and are trying to get into wine nights to promote their business more, I have seen lunch meetings and a family reunion there. You can bring in your own catered food and they will host your event quite graciously. Ginger the owner is an absolute sweetheart. So it is quite the gem in the panhandle....I really like any of their red wine blends but they usually let you taste a few that look good to you as they have a few white wines and sweet blends, check them out and keep them in business!

Yelp
Wonderful experience. Delicious wines. Great service. Harvest hosts - with elec and water. Excellent.

Bob C.

Yelp
It's hard to believe such a great winery exists in this location overlooking a prairie canyon. Wines are great too! The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Everyone is super friendly, we brought our son with us and they were so accepting and welcoming. Fast service and great wine. The view is spectacular and the atmosphere is relaxing.

Katherine E.

Yelp
We had a wonderful experience at Bar Z Winery! We will definitely be back! Monty was very kind and told us all about his background in making wine. Great atmosphere and wine!

Steve C.

Yelp
Spent time at the canyon and saw this winery advertised. Really nice setting with beautiful views and great tasting room. Perry was a very attentive tasting room host. Tried the 2011 Tempranillo and really enjoyed. Our dog had a great time chasing tennis balls out back. Great winery!

Tiffany M.

Yelp
Such a nice unexpected spot! The Tempranillo is good! Perfect post Palo Duro hike spot

N R.

Yelp
New to town and wanted to give this spot a chance despite the reviews. Wine was mediocre. I asked for a flight and they said they were not doing them. That's definitely understandable because of Covid but then walking outside with our bottle of wine and noticing someone else with a flight I was a bit confused. After a few drinks, looking for the restroom was a challenge. They had someone standing guard stating they didn't work and needed to call a plumber. I don't know what kind of establishment conducts business this way. Where are are you expected to relieve yourself? Definitely won't return, highly disappointed!

Yelp
It's my 2nd time here since I'm from out of town and just love the atmosphere. It has a beautiful view, the people are so friendly. I've had tastings both times and enjoyed them. I like trying out the different wines just to see what I like. The first time I visited I did a tour and learned the grapes are not from the area but they are Texas grapes. They have offered light snacks such as crackers, very basic but last night they were ordering out from a local pizzeria, La Bella, in Canyon since they deliver. Definitely a nice addition to our evening. We loved the atmosphere and watching the sunset although it was a bit cloudy last night. We spoke to Monte he was very friendly. It almost feels as if you're at someone's home just for a casual get together amongst friends. Both my mom and friend felt it was a great highlight of our evening. Great place!

Yelp
We had a wonderful afternoon at Bar Z ! The owner was amazing, the wine was delicious, and our dogs were welcome to to run and play. Everyone was so friendly- such a great place to have a sip of vino and chill out.
google avatar

Yelp
This is the best wine in Texas! If you are in the Amarillo area and pass this gem up, turn around! Great wine, I will be back.
google avatar

Gabe O.

Yelp
Great wines, great people = wonderful time! Monty was so much fun! The Pinot is a must! Beautiful spot to watch the sunset. Loved our visit!
google avatar

Terrence M.

Yelp
Worth the stop! Monty and his crew were incredibly welcoming and showed us a great time during our stop at Bar-Z. We truly enjoyed ALL of the wine and charcuterie board. Not only can you taste the love in every wine but they are passionate about supporting local business. All of the meats and cheese on the board are produced locally, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Thanks Bar-Z!!

Yelp
What a great venue for some wine and Friday live music show. Their flights are so generous (3 times more wine than I'm used to when I think of a wine flight). Food truck made the fun even better. Highly recommend this spot for special date nights, the view over canyon and the sunset were amazing!!!!

C B.

Yelp
Wine was good, but then we most enjoy the dry reds they make here. Girls working were friendly and helpful. Couple of things they could improve. When you drive up you are facing/parking the back of the building, but there is no signage telling you to walk along the side of the building to the front to enter. Also, it was raining hard and that's a long uncovered walk. They list a couple of "snacks when available", but did not have any. She offered to give us some crackers, which we appreciated since we had not eaten for several hours. Personally I'm not a fan of places that serve alcohol but do not have any food options. Doesn't have to be elaborate, just something.

Sue W.

Yelp
Great location right off of I27 between Lubbock & Amarillo. Anna greeted us and was exceptionally nice and very informative about the wines they have!! Super place and their wines are fantastic!! Would definitely recommend stopping here if you find yourself in the panhandle of Texas!!

Brian B.

Yelp
Last time we went, the owner greeted us very condescending "are you lost", we turned around and went elsewhere. Previously the owners children or grandchildren were running around screaming. Do not go here.
google avatar

R Barrett E.

Yelp
I didn't know you could bottle happiness but Bar Z figured it out. Every single wine they offer is amazing. I never leave without buying at least 4 bottles to take home (and I would pay twice as much for the quality of wine they produce). My favorite is the Tempranillo, I could drink it all day every day if it weren't for the pesky alcohol content and my desire to function in society. I have had wines from all over the world and I would say that Bar Z not only surpasses expectations but they also set a new standard from which all other wines I try are judged. They win every time. Thank you Bar Z for being true to Texas, true to wine and true to yourselves! I highly recommend a tasting...it'll change your life.

Yelp
Our second visit to Bar Z. Tastings are done in flights, no chance to mix it up. Prices are, as mentioned in other reviews, $25-40. Their pours are large, reducing the pour size could reduce the price as well. Their wines were not as good as last time, a couple years back, not sure why, some were rather raisiny. Others were, as we remembered, excellent. We tried two different flights, one included a pinot noir (not a lot of those in TX) which was, as is the case for that varietal, a love-hate ordeal; one of us loved it, the other did not. We noticed that a lot of wine was left in the glasses by other people after they left; this wasn't so much an indication of quality, but the size of the pours. For the two in our party, 7 wines (one repeated in a flight) with 4 excellent, 2 OK and one just not on top of its game. The price of a bottle is actually very good, $30 or less. Knowledgeable and friendly staff.
