Where to Find Regional Mexican Cuisine Represented Around Dallas | Eater Dallas

"Specializes in Hidalgo-style barbacoa de borrego that recalls the traditional pit-cooked, maguey-wrapped preparation; the lamb is gamey with a touch of smoke and silky fat, served by the pound in a chafing dish alongside fresh corn tortillas for a communal, hands-on meal." - José R. Ralat

If you come here it’s gotta be for the barbacoa. Don’t expect to come here and get the best shrimp of your life. They have barbacoa in the name for a reason. The barbacoa is juicy but not greasy or oily. It is so tender and has a strong wood smoky taste. Rice and beans were bland. Red salsa is better than green but if you mix both, done deal. Horchata was so good its not made with premade powder they make it themselves and do a pretty good job. The reviews are right the wait time is a little long. Got there at 10:10am and it was already packed to the brim. Got our order taken at around 10:45am. Our server was nice and attentive and served us with a good attitude despite being so busy. Birria tacos were mehhh. Despite all the criticism I have made in this review, i’d 1000% go back barbacoa is chefs kiss.

Great place for authentic barbacoa lamb. The barbacoa had a smokey flavor. The consome is delicious too. Great service and atmosphere.

Great food. A little pricy but worth it. Waitress not very helpful. After eating, we ordered 1 lb birria to go but the waitress said tortillas are not included. So, mmm not sure how to make a taco at home now...... in summary, if you eat there, you get the tortillas, but if it is to go, no tortillas for you... something is not right...

Came here expecting greatness and it turned out to be some of the worst Mexican food I’ve had in years. The service was horrible, we had to ask for our chips and salsa, the waitress didn’t bring our kid a water, we had to ask for that too. The food had no taste until we added salt to it ourselves. All around bad experience. I made it halfway through my plate only because I came in starving.

Went straight to the table looked over the menu and waitress came right over to take our orders. Wasn't ready as we just sat down. After ordering our food I had to ask for chips and salsa and our kid drink. When bringing the salsa she only brought 1 sm cup for a table of 3 and still didn't bring more. I had to ask for everything as she never came to check on us. Food had zero flavor. Will not ever come back. The worst mexican food I've had and im mexican and I've had white people make better tasting food.

The food was good but i ordered same food for To go and I have to pay for the tortillas. I don’t mind to pay but if it’s the same plate why for Togo they don’t give you tortillas, the water was hot not enough ice. When we paid they charged $4 dollars extra bc we paid with card. When you have a business the owner has to pay the money to use the machine not the costumers

This is very traditional Mexican food. And very true to the Mexican state of Hidalgo. The food was very tasty and well portioned. The service was excellent. The restroom did need attention at the time of my visit. And the dining area a little warmer than I'd like but it is the beginning of summer. Over all a good experience.

On Saturday afternoon there was a small norteño trío playing music. I ordered the consume de Borrego. I thought it would have meat in it as well as garbanzo beans but it did not have meat. My bf ordered 2 tacos de Borrego, and 2 sopes one chicken one chorizo. He said they were ok. The Borrego meat was a little smokier than he likes. The agua frescos are sweet, but good and natural.
