"Or try local favorite Barbacoa Grill, which specializes in open-fire cooking and tableside theatrics — think made-to-order guacamole and filet mignon served with flaming cognac sauce." - Amanda Gabriele

Everything about this place was excellent. They were able to accommodate a large party. Is there food was absolutely amazing and their service was very very good. One of our party members thought she ordered the wrong steak and the server took it away and brought her what she thought she had ordered within minutes. It was a fast turn around time and very appreciated! Drinks were soo good and the vibe was great. Definitely will come back if I ever get to Boise again! Don't miss out!

Probably our favorite restaurant in Boise! The food is awesome and always consistent in quality. We have never had a bad meal here. The decor is amazing and the staff is super attentive. Almost to the point of being annoying sometimes, but not! Make sure to make reservations as you will be waiting a while if you don't. I highly recommend Barbacoa for an amazing dining experience.

The server and the host staff was amazing, I would suggest making a reservation as this place is popular, but the seating at the bar tables is first come, first serve. The food here was expertly prepared and plated. It hit every mark and helped me show my daughter a great time.

If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Live in Hawaii, I’ve travelled a decent bit around the world, and all 50 states, spent plenty of time in NYC, LA, and Boston, I’d never thought one of my favorite restaurant experiences of all time would be in Boise, Idaho but here we are. Just phenomenal. Our server Ella H crushed it on the recommendations. Including a reco to sub out an item instead of just ordering a baked potato as a side. Definitely, order the hand made guacamole - best guacamole I’ve ever had, carne asada was phenomenal (also best I’ve ever had), the chicken pot pie was great, the crust was so soft and flakey, for dessert the ice cream lollipops and the chocolate mouse both great too. Decor was so interesting. The martinis are served in cup with another cup on the inside but the inside cup is pure ice. Evidently it’s something the owner patented before he died. Also interesting and novel. The ice glass melts into the first cup so your drink isn’t diluted. Seriously, top to bottom one of, if not THE best restaurant experience I’ve ever had.

This was by far one of the best restaurant experiences I have ever had. We had a party of 6 with reservations. The wait time was minimal (they were extremely busy), which didn't matter because I was taking in the amazing atmosphere. The view from our table was excellent. Then came the drinks...Oh My Gosh. I had the XXX...Sooooo delicious. The food and service deserves more than 5 stars for sure. The steak melted in your mouth. The guacamole was so so good. We even had entertainment from a young woman (there is always one) who was rude and obnoxious to everyone working there. She was not getting her way immediately and was literally throwing a tantrum. I was embarrassed for her and her family. Very entitled and treated the staff as lowly people. It was pretty disgusting. The staff handled it with dignity though. It was just an amazing experience all around and I wish I could give 10 stars. We will be back on our next trip to Boise. Thank you again to our waiter, he was great (I'm so sorry I forgot his name)!

Food ordered: Calamari fritti ($16) Coulotte steak and Cajun shrimp ($45) with a side of artichoke fritters ($13) Enchilada Cordero ($37) with a side of asparagus ($12) and zucchini chips sprinkled with cheese ($12) My husband and I came here with some family and friends to celebrate my graduation and our gender reveal. I had high expectations for this place given the variety on their menu and how pricey it is. Therefore, here is an honest and detailed review: Service: Our server was amazing but I didn’t particularly appreciate the behavior of one of the managers (or whatever she was considering she didn’t introduce herself) that was called in to receive our gender reveal cake. She could have delivered info on their policy regarding outside food in a kinder manner rather than in a matter-of-fact cold tone. Her attitude left me feeling quite displeased upon arrival. Food (only the food my husband and I ordered): For an expensive restaurant, the least they could do is offer some complementary appetizers, especially considering how long it takes to receive your food once you make an order. If cheaper restaurants can do it, what’s stopping this establishment from serving warm bread or salad? - Everything that was breaded/battered (Calamari fritti, zucchini chips & Artichokes) was rather tasteless. There was no seasoning (spices outside salt and pepper) and the zucchini chips and artichoke fritters barely had any salt on them. I was very disappointed with the sides and even more so with the 6 salty asparagus spears that were $12. - My husband ordered the Enchilada Cordero and the lamb surely needed to be cooked longer. I wish they had asked us how well we wanted it and worked to ensure it was well done. I wasn’t impressed with the portion size on this one, especially considering its price. - I ordered the Coulotte steak and Cajun shrimp. I asked for my steak to be very well done but still unfortunately ended up with a steak that was somewhat pink inside. The hot stone was left in case I needed to use it (which I did) considering my steak wasn’t cooked to my liking. While I appreciate the use of the stone, it’s not enjoyable having to cook the steak to my liking after waiting so long and leaving the rest of my food to get cold. The cognac sauce wasn’t too my liking as the taste just wasn’t something I enjoyed. The steak however was pretty good after I cooked it a little more. Besides this the 3 shrimp that came with the dish weren’t bad. The shrimp themselves weren’t seasoned but came dressed in some kind of sauce that I didn’t quite like but didn’t hate completely. The mashed potatoes were rather bland and could have used some seasoning. - I think they should seriously consider offering a menu for non-alcoholic beverages and expanding on creating an availability and variety of such drinks. I got a virgin huckleberry mojito after being verbally informed of a narrowed list of mojitos they could make alcohol-free. Seeing as these were some of the only non-alcoholic drinks outside your typical sodas that they could offer. The mojito ended up being dreadfully sweet and I had to water it down with some of the water I had. - The celebration called for a celebratory dessert and I must say for an expensive restaurant they could do so much more with their complementary dessert. If a chain restaurant like Cheesecake Factory can give you a decently sized free cheesecake, Barbacoa could do much more than a kid’s bite sized piece of flourless cake in a cotton candy lantern. Visually it’s cute but cotton candy is not the best dessert you could offer to grown adults. The flourless “Belgian chocolate cake” was terrible in all honesty and had the weirdest consistency that I couldn’t quite wrap my head around. Environment: We had the view of the little lake behind the restaurant and this surely was a splendid view indeed. I am not sure what seating is like inside but it looked pretty nice. The bathrooms were too dark for my liking and weren’t mum friendly as they didn’t have any changing stations inside.

I have to admit after reading all the reviews I was surprised when I walked in and saw that the place looked quite different from the photos. I understand it is 15 years older from when the pictures were taken but it took away part of the “wow” factor. The service was outstanding. They did a phenomenal job with bringing things out at the proper time and checking on us periodically. The food just didn’t do much for me to where I would say ‘I can’t wait to come back, or I would love to bring someone visiting here.” Since there were so many people there, it was at times difficult to hear someone sitting next to you, but that is not the restaurant’s fault. They have plenty to choose from off of the menu. And as I mentioned, the service was excellent.
