As with every restaurant in the Big Mamma group, Barbarella’s environment makes a statement, playful and over-the-top in all the right ways, just look at the massive David statue head near the bathroom. Being Italian, I tend to be a little critical of Italian restaurants, but I was curious to try this new venue, even though I’ve never been blown away by their sister sites. Barbarella, however, really seems to raise the bar.
Booking ahead is strongly recommended, as it gets very busy and the atmosphere is lively and buzzing. My friend and I shared a few dishes, including the Crocchette di Vitello Tonnato, which I particularly loved, the Gnocchi ai Funghi e Gorgonzola, which was rich and satisfying, and the Filetto alla Rossini, a decadent combination of chicken liver parfait-topped beef fillet with mashed potato, spinach, and Marsala demi-glace. Everything was accompanied by a well-chosen bottle of wine.
The quality of the food is impressive, so I hope Barbarella keeps up the standards, with excellent service and that vibrant energy that makes it feel special.
