Hands down the best BBQ ribs I have ever had! They slide right off the bone and they offer bbq sauce on the side but it tastes so delicious you don’t need any sauce! The atmosphere is very cozy and relaxing. They do not play loud music which I appreciate. The owner Ronnie makes everything from scratch and is very warm and friendly. My other favorites are the turkey meatloaf and the veggie burger which she also makes from scratch. The veggie samosa with the mango chutney is divine! Ronnie also makes amazing pies! My favorites are the sweet potato, pumpkin, cranberry and apple. I never liked apple pie until I tried Ronnie’s apple pie. I highly recommend trying the bbq pit! I have always been deliciously satisfied with the food and the service! 😁

Wow! Ribs here fall off the bone; so tender and taste 10x better than any other I've had. Also love the turkey meatloaf. All the pies are out of this world. This is a semi-eclectic place that also has samosas and some other various specialties from the chef, which you might not expect at a BBQ place but which go with it QUITE well !! I come here about once a month whenever I'm in the area !

FOOD IS HORRIBLE!!!! If you like charcoal burnt ribs/chicken combo and thrown together food, Barbecue Pit restaurant is your spot. In all fairness the macaroni & cheese was decent. However, for $76 and only the macaroni cheese was edible is unacceptable. I do not recommend this restaurant.

Ordered on Uber eats. Fried chicken was tasteless but at least fried well. Hot sauce saved most of it. Potato salad just tasted like mayonnaise. Threw it away immediately. Collars had a terrible after taste and the macaroni and cheese tasted like it was made with Kraft singles. Waste of $38 🗑

I recently moved to the neighborhood and decided to try out Rani's barbecue pit. It's clear that Rani takes pride in her food and has been a dedicated member of the community for over 24 years. She makes everything from scratch, including the samosas and empanadas. The veggie burger with spinach, lentils, and rice was a standout, and the turkey chili and meatloaf were also delicious. Rani and her team put a lot of effort and care into their food, and it shows in the unique flavors and spices used in their dishes. It's worth a trip from anywhere to try out Rani's barbecue pit! And don’t forget about the ribs and chicken in the corn bread.

We loved our meal! Everything tasted fresh and homemade, including the complimentary chips and salsa. Roni was incredibly friendly and attentive. My three year old and twelve year old ate everything and they're incredibly picky. So grateful to have such amazing food in the neighborhood! Can recommend the turkey chili with cheese, corn bread, and fries! So yummy, we will definitely be back!

The place was cozy, the waitress was friendly and help us deciding what to try. I had the ribs and chicken which it was delicious and tender. Wifey had bbq pulled pork not a wow factor for her. It look like too much BBQ sauce. I believe the sides should be a little more for the price they charging. Mac n cheese was real small. Garlic mash needed a little kick to it. Overall I might give it another shot.

Every visit to the Barbecue Pit in Riverdale (Bronx, NY) is phenomenal. The best food, the extremely delicious pies, which we have now had several times, to the outstanding and welcoming service. Truly the best!

Went on a whim and was pleasantly surprised at how delicious the food here is. You'd be amazed what barbecue tastes like when the seasoning is all through the food. I had the boneless chicken barbecue which was absolutely delicious with the potato salad and the broccoli and carrots. Service by the owner was very attentive and friendly. Ambiance very nice and I love how cozy it feels.

Rani has FABULOUS Food. On this Super Bowl Sunday, I wanted to point out that her wings are peerless. Crispy on the outside, moist and tender on the inside, and a variety of sauces.

The catfish was good. The tartar sauce was delicious! I mixed it with everything. The mashed potatoes was not garlicky as advertised but don't mind that. It just needed more gravy. The baked beans are good. The macaroni and cheese was not good. It is out of the box.

The BBQ rib meat just fell off the bone. Delicious food! The BBQ chicken was flavorful and tender. The BBQ sauce was delicious as well. We had potatoes, sweet potatoes, and broccoli as sides. No complaints from the family, everyone went for seconds.

The food was good . It's a family restaurant very cozy . The atmosphere was light and fun. The service was good. The owner was sweet and personable. I would go back.

Why everyone on the reviews lying? T_T or maybe ya need authentic bbq food because this place is NOT IT!!! Fried chicken lacks flavor. Mashed potatoes taste like cardboard Ribs were burnt and dry Bbq chicken was dry, lacked flavor The stuffing was the most disgusting part of the meal. After the first 2-3 bites we had to stop eating because we both felt sick by the smell/taste of the food. Got a full refund thanks to Grubhub. Never again!!!

I have to add that I've had the Key Lime Pie and chili and both were superb. Everything delivers really well. We generally eat in, but it's great to have the option.

If I could give them a -10 I would! It's the worse food I've ever had (and it's the first time I order from them)!! What a waste of $$$. Bland & burnt chicken tenders, fries that appear to be drenched in oil!

So I've never updated a review twice let alone 3 times. But BBQ Pit is amazing. Ordered a whole blueberry pie without knowing the owner was on vacation. The night she returned she made it up ready for me for a surprise birthday function the next day. I'm running out of adjectives to describe how good her baking is. She could be running a pie business. As good as any I've had anywhere all over the USA. I cannot thank Rani enough for her kindness and her exquisite baking skills. I'll be back for more whole pies soon.

They are way too expensive to be this sub-par.. ribs are alright. Chicken kind of dry. Cornbread was hella dry. BBQ was too watery. The garlic mash absolutely no garlic or flavor.

This was a uber eats order... I really dislike when a restaurant instead of calling me to let me know a item is sold old, they just give me whatever... like who would want both potatoe salad &macaroni salad ??? And they both was flavorless..

There's one primary reason that this place deserves five stars. And I'm pretty damn picky. It's because the food is consistently good--like having your mom cook food for you the way you like all the time. The owner comes from a family of cooks and has been cooking her entire life, and she's just an amazingly sweet and lovely woman. If that's not enough for you to have a host that cooks consistently well and greet you with a smile consistently then I don't know what the heck you're looking for when you go out to eat. From my perspective there are only two reasons to go out to eat: 1) to get food that you normally can't get at home. 2) to be waited on and served in such a way that you want to return to a place. The Barbecue Pit is far, far more than just barbecue. From their samosas, to their fried chicken, to their lentil soup, and Mediterranean and Indian fare, there's nothing this amazing woman can't cook. If you're looking for a place you can trust that you're going to be well received and well fed for a very fair price, don't just do take out, come here and sit in. It's cozy, it's friendly, and it's delicious. How do I know all this? Because I think I've eaten here about 40+ times. I live in New York City, I go out to eat all the time, but there are some places that you just call home and go to when you need a consistently delicious meal.

Great and tasty ribs! Liked that it cooked like steak. A lot of flavor in its dry rub. Very tender and delicious.

The WORST BBQ I've ever had. Ribs were dry Mac and cheese was straight out of a Kraft box potato salad was terrible. I give the food a zero. I give the service a seven. Do not waste your money.

Came by with my family for BBQ on Memorial Day weekend and ate outside. Loved the variety of the menu and the owner, Rani, is a really awesome host. You can quickly see her passion for cooking and people. The ribs were great as were the sides. We def will be back! My kids loved their food!

Okay this appears to be one of those places you would never notice or just walk on by. Riverdale in Bronx New York would not be a place to find a BBQ Hit Parade standout, but looks and location are deceiving. The chef and owner has a restaurant pedigree her name is Rani expresses her love and passion for the food she offers. She's very clear to explain that when she designed the restaurant the BBQ pit was the first order of business and everything else just put in around it. Love her priorities! Ribs are great, sauce is perfect, Tandoori Chicken is a fav, sides of pinto beans and spinach show off her heritage and passion to make vegetables taste right. The vegetarian biryani is wonderful. The turkey chili is to die for. So proud that we can call the Barbecue Pit a neighborhood gem.

I am never disappointed at the Barbeque Pit. Whether sitting in the comfortable room with the super friendly owner and staff, or ordering delivery, I am always so glad I did! WHat a neighborhood treasure.

Good BBQ in a cute little hole in the wall. Decent portions and decent price. Not sure why it took us OVER a year to pay a visit...especially after Bronx BBQ Pit down on Broadway closed. Honestly my only complaint was that the sweet tea wasn't sweet enough - but that may have been influenced by the fact that I had been in South Carolina right before I went and was still used to their "would you like tea with your sugar" level sweet tea, ha.

This is hands down my favorite place to order delivery from in Riverdale. The food is delicious, from the veggie burger to the fried catfish, the chili to the ribs. I'd say my favorite sides are the stuffing, mashed potatoes, and yams, and my favorite dessert is the cranberry pie... but honestly I've never gotten something here and been disappointed. Even better than the food are the people behind it. The owner, Rani, is not only a wonderful cook but also a wonderful person. When I was recovering from surgery, she made sure I knew I could call on her if I needed anything, something that really meant a lot to me. Their driver does his best to get things to you quickly even when things are super busy for them, and my food has always been delicious and warm when I got it. Amazing and 5 stars all around.

Very quiet, and not crowded at all, even for a Friday night. The staff is attentive, and very concerned on how you enjoy your food. They really want you to come back. The Mozzarella Sticks are a good choice for appetizer. The Catfish is a very good choice for entree. The Ribs I was told are very popular there. The BBQ sauce comes in a warm bottle, and left for you to pour it on yourself. It definately taste better with the sauce. The Collard Greens were very undercooked, almost raw. The Sweet Potatoes were not that sweet. The Mash Potatoes with gravy was pretty decent. Not the best BBQ I have had, but the place is okay.

The food I purchased through seamless from The Barbecue Pit left me crying on the toilet at 2am, s****ing and vomiting simultaneously. My partner also had violent bowel movements. This pandemic has put so many of us in the worst health and financial circumstances. I want my money back and a visit to The Barbecue Pit from the NYC Department of Health.

The food was terrible and the chicken was fried with old oil, not even edible! The only part I ate of my meal was the corn on the cob.

Been coming here for 20 years Tuesday they are closed. Fantastic ribs falls off the bone really well no need for sauces as they are just beautiful had the turkey stuffing with extra gravy delightful tortillas with salsa before the meal excellent tastes . service is quick beautiful presentation under rated place should have 5 stars Plus Plus Plus meter parking out front look at the picture of those ribs the Fried fish platter is good of everyone no sides offered on lunch specials open till 10 pm. I have loved this place for the last 4 years. The owner Rani is a sweetheart who quite literally pours her heart and soul into making good hearty food. All the items on the menu are delicious and one can't seem to have enough. Gem of a place in the neighborhood. I recommend all to go in or order in and support the strong entrepreneur who choose to persist through thick and thin Tonight I was there with some of my gal pals and the good was scrumptious. The cat fish was par excellence, the chicken nachos were delicious. Fried chicken and pork were all too good. Must try

I really love this place! It's so cozy and the food is amazing. They start you off with chips and salsa which is my favorite. I then had the southern fried chicken that comes with two sides and i ordered extra corn bread. The food is fresh and delicious and the lady who takes care of the floor is really nice as well. Definitely recommend this place

We have ordered from The BBQ Pit several times. Everyone loves the food -- albeit pricey. The problem is the wait on delivery. Minimum wait is an hour and a half and we have waited for over 2 hours for delivery. When we call at the hour and half mark the excuse is always the same. We tried it one last time tonight to see if they have gotten the timing down better .. but no they have not. We ordered at 6:17pm and food arrived at 7:52pm. Unfortunately -- this is the last time we will order from the place. Too bad.

Live in Riverdale and tried the take out for the first time. Had the large chicken and baby back ribs combo. The ribs and chicken were very good. Very grilled taste and not slathered with sauce. They give extra sausage on the side. Came with 2 sides. Had Cole slaw and sweet potatoes. Both very good. Only downside was the 2 slices of (homemade) pie. Apple and blueberry. Both were not eatable for me. I would go there again. Just no pie.

They recently changed their menu. I tried to order their Turkey Burger combo and was informed by the owner, Rony that they no longer have that on their menu. I ended up ordering their beef burger instead. Many of their menu prices also rose on some of their food items. The food and service that they provide in this neighborhood is great and even with the upcharge, it is still worth supporting this local business.

I found this awesome local BBQ spot nearby my newly found favorite local fresh pizzeria. Let's begin with the interior: it's a little EH but that's all good because I took my food to go. When I got there, it was a lil warm inside, door was closed, a fan was placed on a table to keep temps "okay." Live plant inside, and a fly just hanging out(thanks to warm temperature inside.) Staff: kind, friendly, smart. Thanks for asking/including utensils and napkins. Asked for I.D. when I picked up order. Could've also asked for email/order confirmation. Everyone always have their phone these days. GOOD THING I BROUGHT I.D. ONTO FOOD: I got the entrée - Chicken breast + garlicky mashed potatoes + Mac N Cheese (+ roll + iced tea) = GREAT. The chicken breast was more on the overcooked side(if they made this to order then that's bad) BUT I enjoyed it anyways. The BBQ sauce was a little TOO sweet. The sides were A+. The iced tea I had high expectations, it didn't meet them (3/5) It was either watered down by ice, or just watered down. The addition of mint and lemon is great though. I'll return, I've got to try the other sides -- THERE'S SO MANY TO TRY!

I love the steak sandwich. I add onions and mushrooms to mine and the pies are made from scratch. They are delicious. I love the pecan pie and the cheesecake. The cheesecake is a lot better then Juniors cheesecake.

I went here on a recommendation of my daughter in law and it was awesome! We had the family dinner in which we ordered hot and honey wings, a whole chicken, baby back ribs, garlic mashed potatoes, collard greens and macaroni and cheese. It was all delicious! We ordered dessert afterwards with apple pie, carrot cake and a coffee dessert! All we amazing! The service was awesome and attentive with the water never running out. They were friendly and caring and they constantly checked up on us! We couldn't have asked for more! A must go to spot!

Barbecue Pit makes the best fried chicken I've ever had. I'm waiting for my order now. I haven't been here in years. So happy they are still in business. Everything here is made in house including their desserts. Yum!!

The RIBS get the 4 stars. Pass on the potatoes salad , Mac and cheese and collard greens.

I was browsing Yelp for a different BBQ spot in the Bronx and found the Barbecue Pit. This past weekend, my girlfriend and I decided to check the place out and we were so glad we did. I can't believe this place has been in the Bronx for 19 years and I've never had the pleasure of dining here. First off, Rani (the owner) was great. She came to our table and spoke to us and was very attentive. My girlfriend and I both had the chicken and rib combo. the meat was fantastic. You can tell that the BBQ sauce was house made. Also, the mac and cheese was good, but what really sold me was that you can taste the freshness. The portions were decent. We ended up taking a doggy bag home along with a slice of Key Lime Pie. Best Key Lime Pie outside of Key West as far as I'm concerned. Instant fan. Can't wait to go back for more.

This place is an hidden gem. So many good things going for - first and foremost, the excellent food. Extensive BBQ selection with unique vegetarian options! This place is BBQ like you expect but there are slight Indian influences throughout the menu. You can take your vegetarian friends and still get your pork/chicken on! Then there's the fact that when you walk in, it's like you've been invited into someone's living room. The owner is kind and full of suggestions to make your meal perfect. And pie. Get the pie!

Very cute place and sweet owner. The BBQ chicken breast was perfect, the potato salad had a classic picnic vibe, the ribs were good, and the garlic mashed potatoes hit the spot. We got tasty warm rolls too. Alas the macaroni and cheese was not good and tasted like old Velveeta.

This restaurant put out a Groupon coupon which I purchased. I live in LI and hiked all the way to d Bronx for this one...oh what I do for food. Anyways, I had the 1/4 Rib, 1/4 ckn meal with sweet mash and cornbread. Pretty good I would say, tho did not have me speaking in tongues or anything. Also had their version of what I would call a pulled pork sandwich...yikes..salty. Staff was extra friendly though even tho I was there late, so i give them props for that. Give them a try. All in all, nothing ventured nothing gained, but I might keep searching for my BBQ spot that will have me singing hymns.. Over and Out.

So my boyfriend ordered food here while I'm at work. His first words were winner winner chicken dinner haha, he said the wings here were by far the best he's had here in NYC. The macaroni and cheese is good but doesn't taste like it's from scratch but I'm sure it is. The greens are flavorful and compared to dinosaur bbq, better than there's. Strong 4 stars here! I can't wait to get home and try it myself.

I've been ordering in from here weekly since I moved to Riverdale last year. The food is evenly excellent - tasty and well-portioned. I am a big fan. Particular favorites for me are the beef quesadilla and fried chicken dinner but I also enjoy the burger: ask for it with fried onions and cheese. Desserts are always fresh and out-of-this-world tasty!

Over priced for how dry and insignificant these ribs tasted. I mean I guess maybe this might be the best ribs I've had in this area but I mean that's not saying much cause most of any food I've had in this neighborhood is iffy at best

The menu is diverse and expertly prepared with something for everyone, from high quality Southern fair and all-American comfort food, to extraordinary Indian and vegetarian fare. The hospitality and service complement all, and upbeat jazz sets the easy mood from homemade soup (lentil, potatoe leek, chicken noodle), to 50 or so entrees and daily specials, all the way to the owner's sumptuous pies (pecan, key lime, sweet potatoe). It's our go-to place and where we take visitors to the area for a warm welcome to the northwest Bronx. Well worth the trip!

Service was great and personal, love that, very accommodating. Place was nice and quiet, something I love when eating, portions were more than generous and the taste was out of this world. This was THE BEST BBQ RESTAURANT we've been to! My husband had the crispy pork which is slow cooked then finished on the grill. He said it was super delicious. Everything there is made there! The fries are hand cut potatoes, even the veggie burgers! Best crispy veggies burger I've had period!!! Desserts are worth a try as well. We already decided to come back here for Father's Day!

Great place to order delivery from... Have ordered a few times. The taste is always there but I've noticed they have increased the portion size of the BBQ pulled pork sandwich. The BBQ is sweet and tangy, the coleslaw is fresh. When i order BBQ I want a big pulled pork sandwich. It was small before, but now their quality and size price points align. I will be ordering delivery more from this place due to their food quality and price..
