Came for lunch and ordered one of the specials. Fish and chips and fries for $17. 4 large pieces of fish, could only eat two. Shoestring fries were plentiful and tasty. My wife had grilled cheese with caprese. She loved it. I'd definitely recommend eating here! Had a Guinness which had a good pour. If you know you know. We sat on the main floor but they have a lower level eating area.

Great atmosphere for hanging out with friends and getting a good bite to eat. I liked the Mother Clucker sandwich which was a good portion and very filling. The service was good too because the bartender came over to my table to confirm my order after I stepped away from the bar because there was a substitution. Overall, over my many visits, this was definitely one of the best.

Bardog Tavern is an excellent establishment. I was in town for work and we decided to get dinner there one of the evenings of our visit. It was literally the best meatball sandwich I've ever had in my life! The staff was professional, courteous and quick to respond to any of our requests. You can tell management has done a great job with their staff! Whenever I am back in town, I will make sure to swing into Bardog Tavern. Highly Recommend!!

Outstanding bar. If Cheers was a real bar this would be it. Someplace where everyone knows your name and strangers are welcome. Great service, friendly, excellent range of beers on tap. Plus local whisky that is well worth a shot or two, three might be a shot too many at 85 proof. Go and enjoy

I visited Bardog Tavern on a Sunday evening while in town for a work trip to the new Ford Blue Oval City TEVC plant in Stanton. The bar staff was very friendly and attentive. They have several local beers on draft and I tried 2 and was very pleased. The crowd was decent and atmosphere was fun.

It was the weekend night and the place was super packed! We went inside and were waiting, nobody gave us a table. Neither any staff came forward to attend! We went downstairs. It looked like an old underground bar, which was very cool; however extremely loud. We had to wait standing there until some party left and we grabbed the table by ourselves. We ordered Moscow mule and espresso martini. The bartender was friendly and cool, however, the drinks were bad 🙁. The best part is that their kitchen remains open until very late night in the weekends. We got some island club sandwich. It came with fries. The sandwich was big and filling. The fries were well seasoned and good. Overall, the food was good.

Favorite lunch place. I always order to-go but the atmosphere inside is so laid back and inviting. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming and the food is always excellent. Chicken caesar salad is my favorite but I also love their fries, chicken tenders, tomato soup, vodka penne, and the breakfast.

I absolutely love this place! The atmosphere, the food, the staff and the decor is perfect! It comes off as a local hangout but is very open to everyone. They have a great menu and a wide variety of booze to choose from. I will say they do allow smoking inside so that can be a pro or con but to me it doesn't matter. I've had the privilege of eating here a few times now and have yet to be disappointed. They have daily specials that change but one thing you should always get it the Poopoo platter! Trust me, you'll love it! An added note, they do add a 20% gratuity to every bill but that's my standard tip anyway.

Had the best shot I have ever had here!!! Give it a try. It is called "The Mel". The service was great. Sat at the bar. The atmosphere is dive bar but a good dive bar. Definitely go here if you are in Memphis.

Bottom Line: If you're in downtown Memphis, this place is worth a stop for a late afternoon refreshment and very solid food. Found this great place literally tucked away in the streetscape. It's got great, old time, city public house feel (despite the "tavern" moniker) with lots of dark, warm tones. Very decent beer selection in bottles and on tap but they really ought to have more than the obligatory Guinness as a dark offering (I.e., Porter) but this is not a show stopper as the Yuengling on tap was a decent stand in. They also have plenty from which to pick your poison in cocktails. The food was solid--well prepared, generous portions, and I have to say, crafted with obvious care in prep and presentation (you get way less and pay a lot more in supposed many star restaurants). Note, throwback alert, smoking is allowed in the main level bar but there is a non-smoking section downstairs though only one guy was actually smoking so it was not even noticeable--and hey, it's a bar!...so don't come here with some fancy-shmancy yuppy new age sensibility--love it for what it is. Give these guys a try.

Bardog is a great spot to get a little bit of everything. They have great options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner + great prices for the downtown area. I like the motherclucker sandwich and the fries that come with it. They also offer daily specials. The restaurant has a bit of a scent, but don't let that deter you from the good food. So first of all 5 stars for Leslie. She gave outstanding service and was super kind. But that's where the fun stop. When you first get there they act like you're a school shooter and wand you down, he also made me open my jacket so he could pat me down as well. I just want yall to know it's never that deep. That was the beginning to the end. Once we were seated we ordered food and drinks and here comes so tall guy with a baseball cap on telling my friend Wes he couldn't wear a backwards baseball cap because it was against there policy. . . Ok so I will also post their policy on wardrobe so you can see it's not on there.. anywhere. Anyway the pasta was bland. The shot was ok the only good thing is they have miller high life for 4 dollars. Save your coins. Go somewhere nicer. Two stars for Leslie. Cause I had to give stars.

I was tired of all the BBQ and southern fried goodness my friends and I had tried while spending a week in Memphis. We decided we wanted to go to a more authentic and local place and found this gem. We stopped in here on a Friday evening. The upstairs was very busy so we headed downstairs where there are several tables and another full bar. We were quickly seated and given our drinks. Bardog is divey (I do LOVE a good dive bar), but the food is anything but standard bar fare. There was something for everyone's dietary preference in my group. The menu features several cuisines including Italian, Tex-Mex, and American. There are vegetarian options available and I chose the Monster Vegetarian Burrito with a side of asparagus. It's filled with pico, black beans, rice, shredded cheese and other veggies. Of all the places in Memphis, this was the best meal I had hands down. Our server was fast and had good recommendations. Food and drink prices are very reasonable, especially considering its proximity to the tourist haunts. I would definitely recommend.

After needing a break from the downtown area, I stumbled upon this spot for some food and drinks. It is dive bar vibes, the bartenders are awesome, and the food was tasty after a long day out. I enjoyed my time here, and not to mention the free shot I got to take with the whole bar really added to the experience. I would come back here if I am ever in Memphis again.

The ambiance and service were 5/5, but I didn't love the sliders--3/5. I do not recommend them and I think they need to add more flavor and less mayonnaise seriously. This place is always a really good time with really good food. The bartenders are always downtown earth. It doesn't matter if you are on the main floor or downstairs. The food comes wrong sometimes when I'm there is a lot of people, but again it's still really good food. I always enjoy coming here and will continue to do so.

I walk in, head downstairs grab a booth and it's good times from there. Had a couple lemon drops that were pretty good. And the steak was alright too. Great service and atmosphere like one of those bars out of a movie.

A not so secret, secret gem. Good pub vibes. The drinks are okay and the food pretty good too. My friends has some meatballs and said those were pretty good. Service was cool. Everyone there seems to always be smiling (: Everything here is just chill (downstairs) but also super rowdy (upstairs).

Walking around Downtown I found Bardog. Very cool place, laidback vibe, good music (80s/90s the night I was there). It was lively enough to not be boring but not so loud that it was hard to concentrate. I had a beer and the blackened pork chop and Brussels sprouts. Both were excellent but I would have liked a few more sprouts. (I was super hungry and dug in before I could get a picture.). I sat downstairs. Great cozy bar area. Bartender was super nice and attentive. I may need to stop in again before I head home.

Multiple vibes at any given time between upstairs and downstairs. I normally relegate my downstairs visit to after hours as they stay open until 3am. Be warned that smoking is allowed. Music was very dope. Service was very good and prompt. On this particular visit, I sat at the bar. My only complaint is based on MY particular tastes. I don't like that cut on breakfast potatoes and I wished my cheese was blended into my eggs, but eh. Pleasant experience still and very inexpensive, surprisingly. I'll be back sooner than later. Downtown Parking, so you know how that goes.

Always a great experience at Bardog! Came here for a friend's birthday and the downstairs space is a great vibe with music in the background but low enough for great conversation. Service is fast! And the food speaks for itself.

Bardog is a downtown staple and rightfully so! We live nearby, so we order regularly. My favorite is the caprese grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup. I also love the chicken tenders and fries, as well as the Cobb salad. Who am I kidding - I love it all! Service is top notch and very fast! Ambiance - well, it is a tavern, so if you go later in the evening, definitely expect the "bar" vibe. Oh - and brunch is 10/10 as well!

Seeing some of the lower-ranked reviews it seems that they don't realize that this is a bar. The food is way better than your average bar food, and they're one of the only downtown restaurants that are open late - plus they're on doordash! The service can be hit or miss, but generally it's great. The vibes are divey, but you'll always have fun!

Food and service were great. Bring your ear plugs if you're looking for quiet cause this place isn't it. I liked it. Staff were pleasant and cordial and they were open late, like 2am late. Limited late menu but food was great.

4/5/2025 PM Never in my life have I ever been treated this rude by any restaurant. I am a Chef and Bartender in Kentucky and forgot how racist people were in the south. As someone who has worked in the industry 15 plus years I know what it means when a restaurant makes you start a tab and you're sitting a table. Not only did both our servers make us pay for food after we were treated rudely by both our servers and wanted to leave but our food wasn't cooked to the right temperature. I've never been told that I had to pay for food that i hadn't received yet but I bet they thought that we were super intoxicated and wouldn't know but NO. There was no effort put into us as soon as we sat down and I will never forget this horrible experience.

Absolute THEE most amazing service for a late night solo mission for your birthday. Like me a Google searched this badass place and found my new go to spot. The food is amazing, fresh, good, the waitress is eoo attentive and nice. Did I mention she's the sweetest. I enjoyed myself here so much I'm definitely coming back and making this my regular spot. The music is diverse and amazing and bartender is really cute too. I love the way they make you feel like family here. They do however search and ID you at the door before entry so no weapons AT ALL. Id highly recommend out of towners to come and slide with them before 3am and the kitchen until 1 am. I really enjoyed myself here even if I was by myself. I was not bothered, I was taken care of and I did enjoy all of the family atmosphere vibes.

absolutely loved this bar. great staff that is so welcoming and friendly. prices are affordable for food, and drinks are cheap! PS they had the best 90s and alternative rock blasting both times i came in here. i swear its like they know my taste. great atmosphere and fun place! i grabbed the egg n cheese sliders with a side of potatoe salad. i think the sliders need more of that spicey sauce on top, but other wise the 3 of them hit the spot. the potatoe salad was amazing. also priced at about $11, you cant go wrong.

Food is normal bar food but with a twist, as it's the best bar food in all of the city. The chicken strips and fries are incredible after or before a late night. Service can be hit or miss, depends on what all is going on down town and how slammed they are. Downstairs has a little more room than the tighter upstairs quarters.. drinks are pretty good & the ambiance fluctuates between loud and cramped to sports bar feel. All in all, a good time. Get those chicken strips, fries and some ranch dressing...you can't go wrong.

A total hit. The food is INCREDIBLE. Staff is always friendly and the vibes are good. This is a great spot for food and drinks anytime of day! There's a groovy downstairs basement with another bar on busier nights too :)

Got in late Sunday night and needed some food downtown. Just wanted to confirm some of the other reviews. My ID was checked at the door and I was frisked by a guy who seemed to enjoy it a little too much. The sliders were great, but I'm not getting fondled again for a hamburger.

If you are considering visiting bardog tavern in Memphis let me save you from a bad experience. First of all it's a tavern, they have a so called security guard on the outside who suffers from OCD due to that fact that he was to check the same ID 5 times before letting you in. As we arrived to the establishment there was a long line, little did we know the entire line was going to be sent away for the most absurd reasons. As the people in front of us were being checked one of the girls had a lace bralet undershirt and was told she couldn't get in because of the material of the under garment. She button up her shirt and still he proceeded by digging deep into her purse. He then proceeded to check the man after her and kept feel his groin area because he had a vape. At this point the entire party walked away. He then proceeded to checking our IDs with the black light over and over as if he thought a spirit or something from the other world would pop out of it. Being 4th of July I was wearing a sundress, my cleavage was covered but he looked and said no I couldnt go in because of the size of my breast. Now at this point I felt discriminated. The location of this "Tavern" is not located in a high end place, it's surrounded by homeless people yet this establishment humiliates people that are trying to provide them business. Theres no way this business is doing great with the kind of "security guard" wannabe in charge of what type of clientele enters. As I called the establishment to let the manager Chris of what just happened outside he proceeded by saying if people are dressed provocative couldn't go in, as if the Pope was sitting at the bar. Yet, his bar tenders entered with short shorts. There was no apology from this individual For treating people as if they're trash.

We loooooooove BarDog! Like seriously I had one or two not so tasty items and completely wrote them off! We decided to head there after a lonnnnggggg holiday week and I was so happy we did! I mean everything I had hit the spot! Cady and Melissa are my absolute faves and the LONG ISLAND IS MY GWORRRLLLLLLL! They stay open til 3 and smoking is allowed so it gets a little foggy, but if that's not a deal breaker get in there and eat you something good! Our server was very friendly and attentive. There are TVs in the bar area. The specials change throughout the day. But the regular menu has enough really good options. The club was huge and I heard it was delicious! I enjoyed my black bean burrito and fries. You have to try the bourbon mayo with your fries! The food is also reasonably priced!

A nice chill spot if you are looking for good food ,beer and cool people. The bar has two levels which presents more seating downstairs. I always get the Bardog platter which is always good and more than I can eat. The hotdogs, sandwiches , soups are good choices overall one of my favorite bars in Memphis.

I was assaulted in this bar on December 29th by the security staff there. They accused me of not having any money to pay the tab but I only needed to call the credit card company to get it cleared up. They dragged me down to the grown and put handcuffs on me. If you are from out of town do not go into this bar. It is a dangerous place. They are rude and disrespectful.

Good sliders just a quick walk from the downtown hotels. Many of the local spots are closed on Sunday, so this little hole in the wall really hit the spot. Lily, the server, was attentive, knowledgeable and super friendly. The burgers were flavorful and serving size was large. The garlic mayo was a great addition.

Where to begin. Ate and drank here the last three nights. The wait staff operate like a high end restaurant. Quick service, attentive and respectful. Leslie is an absolute gem. Have the hotdog!

I really loved this little bar downtown. Got in late Thursday night and needed to grab something to eat. We walked a few blocks from the hotel to bardog. After getting metal detected lol we went downstairs to a really cool basement bar where I got a few pbrs and a perfectly cooked/burned hot dog with bacon and onions.

Great vibes, prompt, no frills service. I asked for a recommendation on the sandwiches and got an Island Club. Did not disappoint. I mean, wow - what a sandwich. Loud, rock n roll, cool bar. I will be back. EDIT: went back on my second night in town. WOW. Terrible service. Had to ask for my drink a second time, ordered food to go and it was handed to me on a plate...asked for it to-go and the guy was all "I can bring you a box" - no utensils, no napkins, no nuthin'. Night and day from the first time visit. Don't get me wrong, the food is still bangin but the service was hit n miss. I think the staff were peeved bc they had to shut down early due to water utility work nearby. Yeah, sorry your shift is short but don't take it out on the patrons. I still tipped well bc I really dig the place. Don't be such a Debbie Downer, dude. I still need some napkins.

Had a great time at BarDog!! I went here for the first time to meet a few friends from work. BarDog is a true neighborhood bar and restaurant in the heart of downtown Memphis with great food, late night kitchen, cold drinks and awesome bartenders!! I ordered a glass of white wine, a friend ordered a beer, and my other friend got a makers mark and coke. We had a great time! We ordered food as well. I ordered the wings and a small house salad, my friends ordered a NY strip and Turkey melt. Everything looked really good!! I would recommend BarDog Tavern!

Hubby spent the majority of our visit trying to convince me that I'd been there before. I hadn't of course but it didn't make the experience any less enjoyable at all! After starting the day with coffee at another location, we finally wandered over to Bardog for lunch. We sat downstairs, as there was more spacing available. Hubby had a Cobb salad and I ordered bacon, eggs, and potatoes a la carte. It came out very quickly and was good. I forgot to order my bacon extra crispy, so I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have...that was my fault. As we left the restaurant, the patrons upstairs were smoking. I'm asthmatic, so it was hard leaving and trying to breathe through that with my mask on. I was unaware that smoking was allowed, but otherwise, I really enjoyed the meal. COVID Measures: The staff wore masks and gloves the entire time we were there. Hand sanitizer was available at each table. The spacing wasn't fully 6' between each table, but I still felt fairly safe. Upon entry, each patron had to put their contact information into a ledger for contact tracing measures. Temperatures were taken at the door prior to allowing entrance.

I have been looking for a good hotdog in Memphis for several months, and thought I could get one here, I will have to keep looking. Meanwhile I discovered a nice bar with a cool vibe. Music was a little too loud, but that's only a personal opinion. The hotdog was ok, and so was the Philly cheesesteak, good, but not great. I will continue my search for that great hotdog in Memphis...

Typical neighborhood tavern-style bar. They recently made downstairs nonsmoking, which I REALLY appreciate as an asthmatic. There's security at the door that does a pat down, which was off putting at first but definitely made me feel safe inside. Good food served late!

This place was awesome. It's open and serving food until 3:00am, so being on west coast time it was a godsend. Getting a start at 11:00pm. It's also one of the few bars that allow and encourage cigarette smoking. Definitely old school. The and drinks were very good, service at the bar was exceptional and the patrons were very friendly. Great place!

Daily dog today was chili cheese. Had fries and an adult beverage. Too much food for me to finish. I will definitely return.

The worst, used to go the time , last visit with European friends were harrassed at the front door .. between a frisk down and aggressively asking a 60 year old women to take ger id out of wallet . Such a turn off! And it was 7pm .. the front people have no time to sense. I'm from New York City and I own bars. I've never treated somebody like that. You have to have a common sense .. so rude !!!

Had an absolute banger meal here: Perfect Grilled Cheese and Tomato Bisque. Would for sure order again. Came from out of town and will definitely return to Bardog. The environment was chill, music was very loud. We sat upstairs, but interested to see the downstairs at some point in the future. Was ALSO extremely intrigued by the beer tasting dinner they had advertised...sounded very unique!
