My sisters and our SOs came to Barebottle for trivia Tuesday. It was quite an experience, and although I would go back to this place for some drinks, I will not be returning for trivia night.
Three of us came here early so that we could grab a table. Parking was a nightmare. We tried to find parking in the plaza with Sprouts but holy heck that was never going to happen. We ended up parking in Santa Clara Square parking garage which was shady since we could not find a single sign regarding parking prices UNTIL you went out the exit. No matter, we found parking and got to the place around 6:30PM.
The place was PACKED. It took us 10 minutes, but luckily we found a table to accommodate 6 people. We ordered some drinks and food. I'm a newbie to drinking so my oldest sister got a flight so that I could try out different beers and see what I liked. We got the (1) mad chai-entist, (2) citra powered jetpack, (3) galactic sour drip, (4) twilight suds, and (5) under ground gems. The mad chai-entist was a pretty unique drink that my sister and I enjoyed since we like chai. My favorite though was the galactic sour drip, closely followed by the under ground gems. My BIL ordered pretzels and beef empanadas. The pretzels in hindsight were probably not special and maybe a little hard but I thought they were REALLY GOOD with the mustard. I didn't eat too much of the empanadas but my BIL was raving for it. My other sister ordered a hibiscus soda which was pretty good.
Now, onto trivia night review. As a general overview, there are a 20 rounds with multiple parts to answer. In each round, they also play a song related to the theme of that round and you get some points for guessing the artist and the release year. The organization of this was...interesting. Each group gets a white board; you write your answers on it and bring it up to the MC where they'll announce how many points you earned. I didn't have a huge problem with this until there was a couple of rounds where you got more points if you were the first to get there. That just puts a huge disadvantage to people sitting further away. Additionally, there were some tech issues with one of the speakers that put certain people at more of a disadvantage and the response to that was a "well I don't know what to tell you".
Also, this is TRIVIA night. There were a couple rounds where they had a "sing-off" and "dance battle" where you got more points based on applause. As my sister's bf commented, it felt like a high school popularity contest. It really was! It wasn't fair if you had more people in your group to hype you up, and this didn't have anything to do with trivia.
Anyways, after trivia, the place started to slowly clear out so we decided to go to their game/arcade section. We shot some hoops and played eight-ball. We had a lot of fun with this.
We all agreed that we were not coming back here for trivia night. However, I would be down to come back here for a fun hangout with friends. It's also nice that they allow outside food in. Outside of trivia, the only issue was parking. Additionally, the place was also really loud so it was hard to hear what people sitting next to me were saying. The atmosphere is inviting though, and there's an extensive menu so I would love to try out their other beers sometime.
