Bären Madiswil

My office booked this hotel for me, as it was supposed to be near where I was working. As it turns out, it was a long drive away from the work site. It was a mistake I'm glad they made, as it's such a nice hotel in a really lovely location. I had to cut my stay short and book a hotel closer to the work site, but it's somewhere I would definitely come back to and bring the wife this time. If you're expecting the same amenities as a big city hotel, you'll be disappointed, however if you go with open eyes and want a country inn experience, you will love it. The staff are awesome. Both the lady who checked me in late in the evening and the lady who did breakfast the next morning are a credit to the establishment. 100% would stay there again.

Even of I stay just for one night, I really like the room. Just all you need and I sleep very well even if outside I was raining and snowing. The room was warm. The staff was professional and help me with my question. The breakfast was great. The location is fantastic as it is just in front of the train station. I will certainly come back.

We stayed in the Gasthof because our car was broken for the weekend. Jurg and Eliane organised two nice rooms, we immediately got some excellent idea's for trips in the neighbourhood. The service from all personal is very friendly and high quality. The atmosphere is open you feel 'being at home'. The Gasthoff is clean and very well maintained. The food is top, it was a pity that we could only have diner once in the restaurant since the Fish (for us) and meat (for the kids) was very very nice. We learned also that 'locals' love to eat at Baren at Saterday which is a compliment. For bikers this is also a very good stop since the Gasthoff is part of a larger (electric) biking path. For us a Gasthoff we will put on our list to come back, and then plan for more days enjoying the service of Jurg and Eliane and the beautifull Swiss environment.

I stayed at Hotel Baren for one night during a trip where I e-biked the Heart Route (99). The hotel staff was very friendly and helped us with our bike batteries, bike storage, and was readily available for assistance. The hotel is very convenient if you're biking along the Heart Route (99).||||The hotel itself has a beautifully landscaped, eclectic garden / outdoor area where I lounged for hours reading a book and sipping water mixed with elderflower (graciously provided, unrequested, by the hotel host). I don't remember anything extraordinary about the room itself other than its view of the back garden (see photos). Breakfast (included in stay) in the garden next to the fountain in the morning was a delightful experience with, again, wonderful service. ||||I was told great things about the restaurant at Hotel Baren. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed during my visit; however, the person who checked us in was able to provide an excellent recommendation.||||I highly recommend Hotel Baren!

In Allemanic Switzerland many people (including me) often complain that the menu in every restaurant is the same. This restaurant is actually not an exception. What is exceptional is the extraordinary quality. I have eaten Rösti (classic Swiss potato dish) in many restaurants and homes, but none could compare to what they prepare at the Landgasthof Bären. Crispy, creamy at the interior, and with just the right amount of butter (not swimming). Ditto for their extraordinary saltimbucco and creamy risotto, cooked to perfection. In good weather, you can eat outside in the romantic setting of a closed garden. Just one complaint - the service is not the friendliest, but this is not unusual in that part of Switzerland. We also stayed in the hotel, but this was not a great experience. The room was small and clean, bedding average, and we were woken at 5 AM by construction outside - without warning.

In dealing with the aftermath of a family medical issue, the Owner (the sister whose co-owner is her brother) was incredibly helpful -- arranging meals for our bed-ridden family member, identifying and walking us to a local Swiss doctor (who was similarly amazing), and arranging for a private taxi to Zurich for a rescheduled flight. After five nights there, the Owner had the wherewithal to ask us how our departed member was doing. And the hotel itself is wonderful and has outside seating for drinks, including local apple juice and Swiss wine from nearby.

We stayed at this hotel whilst we visited the Flyer Ebike factory at Huttwil.||||Very clean room and good breakfast and the best dinner that we had had for ages but for the Brits - a bit expensive - not I am sure for the Swiss! The food looked so pretty too and was well presented tasted yummy.||||Christopher lent us his electric bikes and we rode around the very pretty countryside and Christopher was kind enough to print out our boarding cards for the return flight to the UK
