Bärenkrug Hotel & Restaurant

Nice hotel with a pleasant garden terrace to sit in and have a drink or even dinner. The room was spacious and provided everything needed. There is plenty of free parking space at the hotel. The restaurant provides what I call honest German food :good, simple and nice portions. The breakfast buffet was very good but the setting on large round tables is a bit strange for a solo traveller.

We went to Molfsee, because we wanted to visit the open air museum (which was really worthwhile). We chose Bärenkrug as a hotel due to the positive reviews. We were not disappointed. The hotel is very comfortable, clean and well-organised - everything you may expect from a good hotel in Germany. The dinners were great, good food and great wine. The staff consists of two senior waiters - one female who is the best organised and one male, who is easily distracted - and for the rest some younger assistants who are friendly but not always competent when it comes to for instance recommending a suitable wine. You can sit very pleasantly in the garden nearby the hotel. The breakfast is good with a great variety of options. One big drawback though is that they don't serve gluten-free bread, unless you are prepared to pay E 7,50 extra, which is quite ridiculous (in other hotels they serve it for free, as we have experienced). Cooked eggs were lacking the second morning and the juice is not fresh, as you may expect from a good hotel. The hotel is located nearby a busy road, but that did not disturb our sleep. The beds are comfortable. All in all, we were very satisfied and would probably choose this hotel again when we would visit the area again.

This is an exquisite hotel in Schleswig-Holstein in northern Germany. Schleswig-Holstein is one of those culturally complicated regions, having gone back-and-forth between Denmark and Germany. Because it survived the bombings of WWII, it is historically and culturally very rich. One can find many barns and houses in the half-timber style with thatched roofs. There appears to be a regional conservation effort as many new houses replicate these features. The hotel is impeccable. It has beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces -- lovely rooms, an indoor restaurant, an outdoor lounging area. The food is marvelous. Parking is very convenient. There were two drawbacks, both with remedies: we had black flies soar into our room from nearby garden (remedy: keep the windows closed), and the restaurant staff was remarkably unfriendly (remedy: who cares?). In our opinion these were minor inconveniences. We loved being there.

This hotel is some distance from Kiel, but it is near family, so I chose it. It is clean, well-run, and has excellent breakfasts. Other meals are fine, but the breakfast are outstanding. This is a bare-bones hotel, but an outstanding value.

Can't recommend this hotel at all. Unfriendly staff. Seem to be 'bothered' when you like to order anything in the restaurant. Overstaffed. Folk more interested in cleaning and chatting. Food may be ok. Zero attitude to service. English not spoken. Recommend nearby family friendly Catharinenberg.

15 min drive south of Kiel this seems to be a typical “road side inn” for travelers on transit between north and south but also frequented by the locals. We upgraded to de luxe room in the annex building away from the busy road. Large room, functional but not at all cosy. Both room and bathroom with a little outdated feeling. Friendly staff. Good breakfast served in the historic restaurant with atmosphere. 10 min walk to Molfsee which is unfortunately only accessible (and visible) on one spot as it is surrounded by private properties.

Lovely place. Easy to find.||All facilities (room, restaurant, surrounding land) clean and well cared for.||Great food, lovely people, kind, helpful. Lovely setting to have a hotel.||||I stayed here for two nights and was made to feel welcome by all the staff.||Will be coming here again!!!||||Highly recommended!!!

Excellent service, cosy and clean rooms.||Nice restaurant with excellent food, both dinner and breakfast.||We have stayed at this nice hotel several times a year since 2000, and it is always a pleasure :-) The family Sierks always welcome us.||||Safe parking place. ||||Our next stay is 26.
