I happened upon Barfly accidentally and it must have been kismet because I cannot recommend this establishment enough! Excellent customer service, lovely female owner, great food menu and incredible cocktails — even homemade sangria! They have many TVs showing all kinds of sports and I was able to watch the Olympics with the commentary on. The vibe is friendly, casual and homey. They apparently have a patio for spring/summer too, which I look forward to checking out later on when it’s warmer. Absolutely recommend this bar to anyone looking for a good meal or drink (or both) while watching sports.

It has been a while since I had have a decent or good experience at Barfly. Honestly I thought this place wouldn't be around for much longer. Nevertheless I decided to stop by for old time sake. I Sat outside and had waited some time to get some service. However Anthony had apologize and made sure I was taken care of from there forward. Food was actually quite tasty, compare from pervious. My compliments to the chef, great job and attitude Anthony! Will definitely be going back.

This is a diamond in the rough!!! The food is GREAT!!..I belong to a pool league and offen got to small bars to play in...this bar was different!! The food is so good!!! With a nice pool table in the back good music great staff!! Sorry didn't get food pics but definitely will update cuz I'll be going back!! ❤️

We decided to pop in to get a quick (cheap) drink before heading home after dinner. I was about to go to a different bar, but I saw that BarFly had a happy hour menu that included $8 well drinks and $12 cocktails. I was sold. The customer service was great and they also played sports, they have a pool table, and the place wasn't crowded or noisy! I will definitely pop back in whenever I'm on the area! The prices are great, I have to check out their food options and report back!

This is such a great spot. Vibes are awesome. Louis in particular is awesome and great at serving the guests. Everyone else is awesome as well. I come here after work a lot. Good food as well.

Walk in, total dive bar. Great vibes. Asked the bartender what food she recommends and she said the grilled chicken sandwich and it was AMAZING. Huge surprise given I was expecting the epitome of bar food, but this was almost luxurious bar food, and at the most fair price in town. 10/10, great spot. Can see myself grabbing food and watching Monday Night Football here and playing some pool at halftime

I am concerned about the success of your business after watching one of your bartenders interact with my friend. He asked her for her ID and sent her away because he didn't believe her ID was real as it said "not for real ID purposes" on it. Clearly, if this was a fake ID, she would not get one that said "not for real ID purposes." My friends and I range in age from 25 to 27, and while it is flattering to be accused of being young enough to have a fake ID (from Oklahoma of all places!), I thought it might be helpful to offer a bit of advice. This marker is in reference to the REAL ID Act. I'm linking here to the Department of Homeland Security's website which explains what a Real ID is: https://www.dhs.gov/real-id/real-id-faqs. I highly recommend educating yourselves on this federal law which is going to be enacted officially on May 7, 2025. While the bartenders are not lawyers (to my knowledge), it would be wise to be aware of the implications of this legislation on your business and potential customers. I hope this is helpful!

Great place to watch Thursday night football! Lots of energy and plenty of great seats to see the multiple TVs!

I did delivery today from Barfly. Had the French Dip with au jus on a baguette. It was phenomenal. For $2.00 extra had their excellent mashed potatoes with gravy. Fantastic! Everything came beautifully packaged with no omissions. Very large portions and even came with a tasty pickle. They even included a few curly fries, which were meatier than normal curly fries. Loved them. Their prices are low and quality high. Food is so much better than any diner, with the exception of The Waverly Diner.

No ac so it was fairly hot but we grabbed a drink as we were waiting for dinner reservations nearby. They did have a huge fan to help with the heat but I kind of felt sorry for the staff since they were hot too... speaking of.. the staff and bartender was very nice and there were plenty of TV's! Fun dive bar feels and great prices too! (They also have a pool table)

Stopped in here for a drink to kill some time. This is basically your run of the mill dive bar. We came on a Sunday at around 12PM. I'm not sure if it was the timing or this is how it usually is, but the crowd was a bit older than I would have thought. There was a nice elderly couple next to us just having coffee and breakfast while we were having our cocktails. Everything is what you would expect for the price but the best place to kill some time and shoot the breeze. They have some outdoor seating, doing what they can with the space so that's good. Inside looked pretty dark, but socially distant when indoor dining was still a thing. Service was super nice and friendly. Server came to check up on us exactly the right number of times. The drinks are definitely reasonably priced for the area ($8 - $10) and a very nice spot to just catch up with people. Would recommend stopping in!

i laterally waited 20 minutes for a simple Turkey club while hearing the chefs bell to atate that the sandwich was ready. The bartender and server were laughing and joking as i also was waiting for a second beer. The female server waved me away to wait for it as she was in conversation with a customer. No AC made it unbearable so i left.

This place proves that you can actually get good food, a lot of it and get it at a very good price in NYC. Their entire menu is reasonably priced and everything served is top notch. One of our favorite fried chicken places. So atypical of the standard NYC place who overcharges for small plates. Definitely would recommend. And they've got a pool table there!

We recently visited our daughter who lives in Manhattan and we wanted to eat dinner and watch NCAA tournament games. There were 4 of us. Bar Fly is a small bar with a neighborhood feel. It was very loud, but that's what you would expect for a bar on Friday night. We found a high top table and put four stools around it. The server graciously put our game on. Husband had a Manhattan which he enjoyed. We split a French dip which came with beef broth and fries. It was tasty. Older daughter enjoyed the sliders. Vegetarian daughter had a caesar salad which looked fine. As the night went on the bar got crowded with 20 something's. The music and vibe were super upbeat. There is a pool table toward the back which was getting action. Service was spot on. We enjoyed our evening.

Very nice place. Chicken sandwich was very large and was served with a generous portion of thick, curly fries. Nachos were good, also. Margaritas were good but they came with a spicy salt rim, which we didn't care for. (Neither of us like very spicy foods.)

Felt like Irish dive bar vibes. Good drink deals and there is a pool table. Wasn't overly crowded when we went so we were able to take the back and have some beers and chat. If you are looking for a more low key bar this is a good spot to go

This places is among a dying breed of reasonably priced bars with great food. And I am not exaggerating -- the food is fantastic, and all of their entrees hover around the 12$ mark. A go to drink/snack/dinner spot for me every week. EDIT: Same day since writing but I went to have a bite after work. Meatloaf with mashed potatoes and a beer. $22 pre-tip, insane for the neighborhood. This place is so excellent and that food, as always, was remarkable. I adore this place.

There's a guy Luke who's been working here for years and makes a good drink with a good attitude. He's a staple of the place. It's a nice neighborhood joint with reasonable prices, a pool table, a jukebox, and loyal customers. It's been owned by the same person for a while and the employees are home-y. Overall an easy beer to grab.

Listen, I'm grading on a COVID curve, meaning I'm sensitive to the service being affected by the pandemic. With that being said my standard hasn't dropped all the way down. Cons: The food was meh at best. I ordered two different types of fries, and neither batch was good, both batches tasted like it was left in the grease too long. The other dishes that my party ordered was ok at best. PROS: The service was EXCELLENT! Our server was knowledgeable, quick, friendly, attentive, & all around great. The drinks were nice..Listen I'm always here for cheap drinks that are tasty. In short Barfly is worth a visit especially on a Thursday..actually I insist you drop by on a Thursday.

I've been 2-3 times and will definitely keep coming back. It's your typical divey irish pub type bar. No frills, but that's the way I like it. They have a pool table (I think), and a couple of tvs. Decent sized bar and several tables. The bartender was friendly. Not that in your face, talk about your problems kinda friendly. He was pleasant, kept my drink full, was helpful with my questions about the menu and let me be. The food is surprisingly very good and the portions were large! We tried the meatloaf & club sandwich, both were fantastic! Much better than the other frat boy bars in this neighborhood! Bonus: they have a Spuds MacKenzie!!

Though this pub has been here for many years, I hadn't known about it based on my never really being in its exact vicinity. Technically speaking, I owe the knowledge of it from a good friend from Finland who was seeking an additional concert pre-gaming spot for when we would hit either the Gramercy Theatre or Irving Plaza for shows. At his suggestion, we made our way there and its a quaintly sized sports themed pub. They have a fair amount of tables and a longish bar to sit at. We secured some space near the entrance which is a nice elevated spot with a bunch of stools. If you are coming with a handful of people this is a solid spot to chill out and catch up over a few beers and grub. We kept the drinking to the Happy Hour Bud lites since they were $3 a pop and I had to "work" with the camera soon enough. Foods were numerous in selection and on one visit I had a chicken sandwich that was wonderful and on another an order of chicken tenders that had been served up buffalo style. I'd like to try one of their burgers for good measure and to add an image to my new Eatellia account. There was a free WiFi signal which is always helpful and the bottom line is that I shall be returning when looking to kick back with my friends. Check it out.

Had a great experience and prices are inexpensive across the board. Highlight was Jack who is everything you'd hope to have in a server...attentive - even when busy, helpful, and personable. He's a standout among what appears to be a sea of people who no longer care about the customer. Recognized and appreciated!

Couldn't ask for a better dive bar. Great food, a dope bar tender, sports games, pool table, and only a handful of people in the bar. The bar tender Rachel was dope! Place was super chill, and I'd definitely come back any day of the week.

I'm kind of surprised this place has the rating it does. We absolutely loved it! We stopped in randomly for lunch while walking to Madison Square Garden for a concert, with plenty of time and not in any rush to get there. We were the only ones there at the time, but it started to fill up with people coming in and out during the lunch rush and seemed like a pretty popular spot. Since we were there on a Friday, we had a pretty decent menu of 15 different lunch specials to choose from that were only $10. The deal runs Monday through Friday from 11am to 4:30pm. All specials come with a 16oz pint of Budweiser, Bud Light, or a pop, and any additional beers or sodas are only $2 each. Pretty solid steal in our books! I got the lunch special of the day, which was a fried catfish sandwich with Manhattan clam chowder, and a pint of Bud Light. The catfish sandwich was delicious! It was breaded and super crispy, and a bigger portion of catfish than I've had anywhere else. It came open-faced with your standard lettuce, tomato, pickles, and tartar sauce on the side so you could pick out whatever ingredients if you don't like them. I wish they could've gotten more creative with the sandwich fillings, but I didn't mind when it was all put together. I'd never had a Manhattan clam chowder before, which is tomato based, and though I found it salty, the oyster crackers cut it down a bit and it had good flavor with a decent amount of clams in it. Our server was pretty fantastic. He was attentive and polite, and did everything a server should do. We were really impressed with him and how we were treated, with respect and patience, even though we were there for far longer than we should have been. There is also a pool table and free phone chargers for those who have horrible battery life like me and still need Google maps to navigate around the city :) Would love to hit this place up again next time we're in town!

After work drinks? Yep I'm in. There are so many bars in the city and since I work a few blocks away it was a perfect spot to hang for a few. I went around 1pm and to my surprise it was kind of full. They have outdoor seating and there was a lot of shade so we decided to sit and people watch. They have HH on wine, house drinks and margaritas. My co workers and I ordered a bunch of apps to share and it was plenty. Drinks- frozen strawberry margaritas. Yum. Apps- tater tots, potato skins, wings and mozzarella sticks. Everything was good. Wings had a nice kick to them. Service was good as well. Waitress was sweet and attentive. Great place to stop in. Oh they also have a pool table inside. Enjoy!

Barfly's nice, comfortable vibe, good drinks, and reasonably priced food makes it our team's go-to spot for post-volleyball food and brews. They have a long bar with ample counter space, as well as booths for those who'd prefer to sit, but the area we frequent the most is the "perched up" area at the front. Raised up a bit from the rest of the floor, and partially "fenced in," the front section has plenty of stools and additional standing space. Regular priced pitchers run either $15, $18, or $22, depending on what beer they're pouring. We stuck with Brooklyn Pumpkin Ales, getting four nice pours from each $18 pitcher. We've ordered wings, chicken skewers, curly fries, and an assortment of sandwiches during our visits, and, while the food may not be spectacular, everything's made well, and priced fairly. This is allegedly the bar that john snow got kicked out of. It is your typical dive bar with really loud old school music and not the best decor. However we received very friendly service from our server (she even told us we didn't have to put a card on file for our 9 person group - albeit with a half joking warning to not walk out on her). They have booths and large tables for large groups, so it's a good spot to go if you and a bunch of friends just want to have a drink and chill.

There's a thousand bars in NYC and this is one of them. My wife and I stopped in for a beer and to rest our feet mid afternoon. Looked more promising from the outside. The '80's rock was blasting. Came close to walking back out, but we were already off our feet. Not a great selection of tap beer for what's out there these days, closest thing to interesting was Lagunita's. We left before finishing emptying our glasses, and were disappointed to see what appeared to be better beer options just a block further down.

Used to like this place but now it's horrible. Looks like all new staff. The bartender with the blonde pixie haircut is disgusting and seems to be there every night. It's also downright dirty. Not worth it even for the cheap prices.

Came here on a Sunday around 6pm. It was pretty crowded, there was a pool tournament and the masters on. FOOD: We only got appetizers. We ordered wings, nachos, mac and cheese, and fries. Everything came out super quickly and was pretty good. The mac and cheese was by far the best. The fries and wings were standard- no complaints. The nachos were okay, I've had better. ATMOSPHERE: Dive bar. There are pool tables in the back and booths on the side. There is plenty of seating and standing area. Would definitely come again the prices are great and they have lots of drink specials.

I love Barfly and have been coming here for more than 10 years. I have seen all kinds of staff. There are staff that thrive here and staff that don't cut it! For the record, Rachel is "Thebomb.com" She is so awesome because she is attentive to the customers, does the job with a smile on her face, and works well with the other staff. Yes, she is the one with the blonde pixie cut! Please disregard any reviews prior to this one that say anything negative about her. Average neighborhood pub, dark space, plenty of locals and full bar. Limited outside seating. Prices were average-drinks were average and service the same.

Barfly girl! A very typical American sport bar with TV screen plastered all throughout this small crammed bar where at the back contains one pool table. The food menu contains all the staples: substantial burgers, fries, salads and oddly equipped with Felafel sandwich and French Dip Au Jus for an American sports bar. Weird. In scanning the drink menu online they have a good choice of wines and equipped with a full bar. With my second, I opt for one glass of Rosé wine as he selects his standard bar drink, Long Island Ice Tea which totals $17.50. I have a weakness for bar food and ordered Mozzarella sticks at $7.00. Our bills totals to $25.50 includes tax, without gratuity. (I've learned to pay the gratuity in cash from my former love and his mother collectively.) Background music is deafening loud. Service is rather slow and wait staff are dismissive when flagging them to place drink/food orders. Hooks are available under the bar for purses and bags. Space is somewhat crammed between the bar and the tables near the bar. Had I came here one week earlier Barfly was one of the many Manhattan bars/restaurants participating in Yelp Drinks Week... oh well, I missed it!!

We ordered the artichoke dip and chips, which was okay. It's standard and nothing too impressive. Waitress was super friendly and accommodating though!

T and I had no plans on seeing each other, but somehow got together and went out wibbly and wobbly throughout the night. T wanted to check this place out and so we ended up coming here to end our night. When T mentioned Barfly to me...I couldn't remember why this place sounded so familiar to me. It finally hit me today, that this is the bar that someone wanted to take me on a first date. I remember I looked it up on Yelp and it categorized this place as a Sports Bar - I am sorry fellas, but this is not the place to take your first date. I ended up telling the dude No, I don't do Sports Bar and don't do beer. Surprisingly, this place actually serves margaritas. I couldn't drink anymore, but I still managed to sip on T's margarita and pretty good for a low key bar. Didn't want to upset the eager for tip waitress, so we ended up sharing a plate of sliders. Umm, sliders weren't really good, but I would still come back to this place for the margaritas and service. P.S The Spanish dude that works here was super duper nice to us and found us a place to sit. Wooo Hooo

Great spot if you wanna grab a quick bite and have a drink. We ordered wings, mozzarella sticks and artichoke dip. The wings were amazing and the server was super nice despite being busy.

I came here for happy hour with a couple of college friends. This is a no frills bar with plenty of TVs airing. We shared nachos and the beef empandas. I had a couples of Guinness my friends had Redd's apple cider. I was able to get a free engraved Guinness glass but I gave to one of my friend. So, actually she got 2 glasses. This is a good place for a simple happy hour just don't expect anything extravagant here. Our waitress was very attentive and checked up on us often.

Ive gone to school across from this place for years now and it hasnt changed a bit over those years. Dive bar, friendly service with somewhat meh food. Nice when there isnt too big of a crowd, and Ive seen quite a few SVA kids in there inbetween class changes to grab a quick beer there from time to time. Great local spot, but maybe not the place you want to spend a great deal of time in there. At least for yelp drinks they are doing $2 Millers! You cant find a better deal in Manhattan .

How do you review a place objectively that you've been to about 100 times? You just cant. That said, I love Barfly, and I've owed them a good review for years now. It is ye olde faithful for me in the area. Never lets me down. Yelp reviews should be based on how well a business executes its concept, and Barfly does this perfectly. It is not trying to be fancy. Don't expect an extensive list of craft brew or gourmet food. It is what it is--a solid little inexpensive watering hole with decent, satisfying grub. I laughed audibly at the reviewer who gave two stars because the "artichoke dip was not impressive." Really? What is wrong with you? Take a step back. The best thing about Barfly is that it's CHEEEEAP as hell. You can come in with 20 bucks and get a sandwich/fries and like 6 beers. Tell me where else in NYC you can do that....yep, nowhere. The staff are all down to earth and super friendly. They have a nice pool table that is appreciated. There is a sweet little patio for outside seating and prime people watching on the corner. All walks of life come here, from the cool ass Asian gentleman with the cowboy hat and shades always playing the video poker machine, to the young ladies grabbing happy hour drinks with their friends, to the detectives in suits on their lunch break, to the semi-pro pool players who bring their own cues and heckle one another. Everyone is welcome at Barfly, even YOU, and that is part of the charm. Awesome bar.

This is hands down one of the best bars in the city to catch a few beers after work with your friends. I come here at least once a week- usually after work, but during a slow day their lunch deal is unbeatable. It's usually not crazy busy, they have an EXCELLENT happy hour which goes until 8pm unlike most bars, a very well kept pool table (pretty sure they re-felt it at least twice a year), and the everything on the menu is delicious. No, it's not fancy, it's not gourmet, and if you're coming here for high-end cocktails you've come to the wrong place. What it is is an everyman's bar with lots of TVs, good food, good company, and good prices. This place truly embodies the spirit of Bukowski, so the name could not be any more fitting. Long. Live. Barfly.

I was in there on Saturday afternoon and not only did the bartender give me the wrong credit card back, she also let some bum walk off with my hat.

Depending on how you look at it, Barfly is either confused or has all the makings of a good bar: large flat screen for sports, divey scene, Irish pub feel, and offers decent American dishes. I stopped here to catch the World Series and was pleasantly surprised they had a few good screens (smaller ones had Monday Night Football and the larger one had the World Series) and they turned on the volume for the World Series which is always a plus for a sports bar. The bar was not crowded which was also a plus because they had only one server who was fairly attentive. I ordered the fried chicken which was golden crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Yup - it was perfect with my IPA. The mash and gravy were fairly ordinary but did the job. Barfly is definitely worth visiting if you are in the area and want to step out to a decent all in one dive bar, Irish pub, sports bar, and restaurant.

A bit too dive-Y for my taste. On the pro side they did have cute decorations! On the con side - service was actually terrible. Wait staff was nonexistent for the first half hour i was sitting at a table. Not sure if this is just more like go up to the bar... But it was weird and that's a long time. Had to ask for a food menu at dinner time? Also weird - and made me kind of sketched out if no one was ever ordering their food so they stopped giving out menus for it.

Came here for the Patriots game and it's a nice little sports bar in Gramercy. The interior was decorated with a lot of lights and festive decor and it's your typical bar setup. We had an order of the nachos and it was actually pretty tasty. I like that it had refried beans on it. Most of the nachos I have gotten only have the black beans or pinto beans on them, but the refried beans were really good and added a nice smooth texture along with the guac. The flavor of all the toppings were good. The only thing I didn't prefer were the type of chips, They use the thicker chips which I think actually hold well for nachos because they don't break as easily and they don't get as soggy, but they just taste pretty oily, but this is just personal preference. For dinner, I ended up getting the fish tacos, I think that whatever sauce they put inside the taco was good because it had a nice sweet, and tangy contrast and it came with a meh salad on the side. The reason I haven't rated them higher is just that it's just your typical bar food and nothing I had really stood out to me. I like the atmosphere though and I would probably come back to watch a game and snack on some nachos.

Pool table. Understaffed for the crowd when we got there but the bartender and the 1 waiter really worked efficiently and held it down. Impressive. Unlike other places I've been to where , with 4 servers, they cry "understaffed" and perform horribly.

The service was a little slow on an early Sunday afternoon; there were maybe ten other people seated down when I got there for Brunch, and waited about twenty minutes for an omelette with fries. However, the food was great and perfectly cooked, and the fact that old hits from The Cure and other bands was on the playlist balanced everything out. It was an impossible value to beat, considering it only cost $12 for brunch and a cocktail..
