19 Essential Tucson Restaurants

"Barista del Barrio offers a simple but well-executed breakfast menu with marvelously friendly service. Rather than serving one massive burrito, the restaurant serves two smaller, grilled breakfast burritos in an order. The lattes feature distinctly Mexican flavors such as horchata and mazapan (peanut candy)." - Jackie Tran

Google
Wow. Wow. Wow. Amazing service. Staff was so nice and considerate. Menu was phenomenal - very hard to choose what to order. And the food and drinks were so delicious. Ended up with the iced horspresso latte, machaca grilled burrito and green tamale & it did not disappoint. Salsa was fuego too. Was relatively fast despite there being a line. Came back a year later and got a dozen tamales to take home because they don’t make them like this where I’m from!

Monique Forman

Google
Great local food and reasonably priced! The staff is friendly and are quick with orders without jeopardizing quality. I'll definitely visit again and recommend to others. 🫶🏾

Google
We came for breakfast and coffee. The building is a house converted into bodega and burrito spot. You build your own burrito or bowl with the basics; egg, potato, beans. The burritos were grilled and came in little sets of two. The machaca and chorizo were both tasty. Overall it was a cool grab and go spot, just make sure you’re ready to fight for parking.

Sol Arizona

Google
Had a grilled burrito (chili con carne) and a chorizo bowl. Food was okay but not worth 30 min waiting. parking is another issue here.

Google
Hands down the best breakfast burrito in Tucson. The line gets loooong, so you know it's good.

Google
Incredible burritos and coffee. The employees are always fun and welcoming. Highly recommend trying the chorizo burrito and the barrio cold brew. Tucson staple!

Google
Super friendly staff. The burritos are fantastic, having tried the Carnitas and Chorizo and bacon. Add Guacamole. The red and green salsa both add great flavor. Wonderful latte options, the Horchessa is excellent and the Mexican chocolate is also great. The staff member recommended going half as sweet, which made for a perfect level of sweetness. There is consistently a line on Sunday mornings, whether you get there right when they open at 8 or later in the morning, but the burritos and coffee are worth it!.

Google
Excellent breakfast burrito (2 per order 👍) & very friendly service, but the coffee is too weak/watery, particularly given the name of the place. Definitely do go for the burrito, but bring your own coffee.

Yelp
What a fun and friendly place! Almost has the chill and casual vibes of a place near the beach. We chilled in chairs in front while kids played with the giant Connect Four game. I haven't tried their award winning breakfast burrito, but the iced coffee and ice chai my daughter and I both ordered were delicious. Strong, full bodied coffee without the bitterness. The chai was the perfect balance of sweet and spice. Customer service is incredible. You feel like you're being cared for at someone's home. This place gets a long line and parking can be wonky, but it is so so worth the stop whenever you can.

Yelp
The vibe here is so pleasant and mellow. The over-the-top refreshing outdoor misters could put out a fire. All this is important because lines are a consistent thing here. I almost never order flavored coffees or specialty drinks. Here, though, the horchesso hot latte was balanced and not syrupy or artificial. The croissant with egg and cheese was good but sort of smooshed in the foil wrapping. It wasn't a deal breaker because it was good. Since I arrived by bicycle, this was more than enough food. I packed the bean and cheese burrito on my bike to snack on later after more riding. It was fresh and filling. I don't know that I've seen regular lines at any business in Tucson, especially one that has been open for some years. That Barista del Barrio has them obviously says a lot.

Yelp
This spot turned out to be a pleasant surprise after a busy morning. The burritos were amazing -- big, juicy, and perfect for recharging. The line moved quickly despite the crowd, which was a nice bonus. Highlights worth mentioning: Fast and friendly service Authentic Latin flavors in every bite Great vegetarian options Affordable prices for the quality The coffee wasn't anything groundbreaking, but it paired nicely with the meal. I'm already planning my next visit -- can't wait to try more from the menu! No doubt, this place deserves 5 stars for quality, atmosphere, and service. It's been a packed week -- I was in Minneapolis for business, then made a stop in Tucson, and I'm so glad I did. Every minute was worth it!

Yelp
I have been wanting to come back to Barista Del Barrio since the first time I had it two years ago. I have heard nothing but good things about their breakfast burritos and I knew I had to try them. I finally had the chance to come here a couple days ago and I loved it. We came early on Friday morning and there were already people in line, but the like usual the line moved fast. My brother and I decided to split the chorizo burrito, which we ordered without potatoes. I love how all the burritos come with two half burritos wrapped individually. It makes it much easier to share or save for later. The chorizo in the burrito definitely had a kick to it, but it was enjoyable! Since the last time I came here they have added more to their outdoor section. There are now yard games and plenty of seating that is tucked away. I will definitely be back again!

Yelp
I love local coffee shops and whenever I travel, I try to find 'the best' spots. In all of my travels, Barista Del Barrio ranks as one of the best. Yes, there will be a line. Are you two years old? If not, I think you can deal with it. Good things come to those that wait, after all. If you aren't local, yes, you may need to ask what the drinks are. We went two days in a row because they shut down for the holidays; the cashier remembered us! Considering how busy the place is, I thought that was nice customer service.

Yelp
Barista Del Barrio is simply the BEST burrito in Tucson! Their coffee is very high quality as well (I love the peanut butter flavor!) I always go here post Tumamoc Hill and it hits the spot every time. The owners truly care about the community of Tucson and I love that it is a family-run business. Also the outdoor seating area is so cute, really captures the eclectic vibe of Tucson!
google avatar

Misha T.

Yelp
One of the best breakfast burritos I've ever had. Note that each order comes with two small-ish ones, but put together it's easily a full breakfast. The line can be long but it all goes fast enough. Their various coffee drinks are quite good too.
google avatar

Jenna G.

Yelp
Order came with two good sized burritos! Perfect after a morning hike! There's a short line and wait but nothing more than any other walk up place. Pretty trendy spot. Offers vegan / vegetarian options for those who partake Coffee is pretty average but pairs well with the burritos. Will come back when in the area!

Yelp
You won't find any better or more delicious, fresh made bread anywhere in Tucson. Don Guerra has earned all the accolades and awards he has received

Yelp
Grabbed a burrito from this stand on the way to the airport since Barrista Del Barrio came highly recommended!! ---sausage breakfast burrito, yummy with a good toasty char but our ice coffee was just okay They are busy, but the wait isn't too long!

Amanda L.

Yelp
Chorizo burrito + Peppermint latte Parking was a hassle. No real designated lot so you're stuck with finding street parking in a residential location. Long wait but it was worth it. I suggest going with a friend so you have company for the line! Atmosphere is nice, and the seating is limited but unique. The chorizo burrito was delicious and portion sizes are generous for the price point. Peppermint latte was just okay, nothing to write home about.

Yelp
Been here a few times it's always busy and I see why the food is amazing. The staff excellent, very informative and friendly and it's always consistent., parking may be a little tricky, but I tend to park up the street and walk. It's a nice walk and that way I know I can get my food and go without having the hassle of trying to get in and out.. not only do they offer delicious burritos to anyone's liking the coffee lattes are all delicious and now I see they're offering some frozen drinks which I will be trying. Next time I go.. With plenty of available seating outside, it's nice to see that they have Mr so that during the summer heat, you can maintain your coolness while enjoying a delicious meal
google avatar

Samantha M.

Yelp
I always come here when I'm craving for burritos! It always comes in 2 small burritos, yummy! I love their chorizo burritos! The red salsa is spicy but too good to not eat! Their iced horchata latte is a must try! I always add a shot of espresso and make it chai! The front desk lady is always so friendly! She knows some American Sign Language, ASL and that's accessible! There are plenty of seating areas with chill, Latinx vibes. Their pricing is very reasonable! Be patient, and your drink/meal will come to you delicious and authentic!
google avatar

Palak S.

Yelp
The quality of the food is DELICIOUS! Parking is really challenging and is all street/alley parking. Seating is a little random and all outdoors, but we found a spot easily. There was a pretty long line (20min) and another 25 minute wait after ordering. That wait was hard with a baby, but you can order online ahead of time, which I'll definitely do next time!
google avatar

Yelp
I was looking for a hidden gem in Tucson for breakfast and saw so many folks rave about this place on TikTok. I love that it is in a neighborhood and it feels very family oriented. The line was long but it moved rather quickly. I ordered the ham burrito and was surprised when they gave me 2 small burritos. The beans and egg paired well with the ham and I was obsessed with the green salsa. Their coffee machine was broken when we went but I'd certainly be back to try their famous cafecitos.
google avatar

Miriam S.

Yelp
We arrived here on a Sunday morning and there was already a long line, it took us about 30 minutes to arrive to the cashier and order our food. Their service was quick( our order came out in about 8 minutes). We decided to order a machaca burrito and a chorizo burrito, they were both good sized and delicious but next time I'll stick with the machaca only, they both came wit beans, cheese and eggs. We also ordered a Barrio Berrayde since it was like 85 degrees and we were thirsty but it was extremely sweet and unnatural, possibly made out of a lemonade powder mix. Not much seating available so plan for a take out.

Yelp
Yet another update...BDB has recently opened a bodega serving up local items, containers of their salsas, and some other goodies, including CHEESECAKES!! I was going to grab the one in the case, but the woman I chatted with offered to get me a fresh one. You can choose your toppings as well - she recommended lechera and Oreo, so I got that! Hot damn was it tasty. We were happy we brought our cooler and enjoyed our cheesecakes as a post-hiking treat. It was nice to shop around while hubby waited in line for the burritos ;) This trip, I opted to try the brown sugar and lechera cold brew medium sweet - it was a little too sweet for me, so next time I'm gonna stick with the barrio cold brew :)

Yelp
I've been waiting to come here for almost two years because I heard they had the best breakfast burritos in town and they lived up to the hype! There is a line on the weekends but it goes fast. The lattes have multiple flavors to choose from and are delicious. The burritos are sooo good and the perfect size to not make you feel overly full. I will def go back.
google avatar

Nancy F.

Yelp
Always a wait but the line moves fairly quick. Check out the Bodega with grab and go items. One of the best places for breakfast.

Nooshin R.

Yelp
Love the breakfast burritos.. have tried all of them and can't decided which one I like best! They are all amazing!
google avatar

Bailey M.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious breakfast burritos. An order comes with two burritos. One was plenty so I would plan to split with a friend or save the other half for later! I had everything on it, bacon for the meat. It was so good! I had the Oreo frappe, it was way too sweet for me. It tasted like an Oreo but almost too much like an Oreo. The smallest size is huge. Very friendly staff, not a long wait! Friendly neighborhood!

Karina A.

Yelp
Everything is always tasty! The tamales are my absolute favorite. Staff is always kind and helpful as well! The new patio area and overall ambiance has gotten so much better and is even pet friendly, our pup loves the pup cups!
google avatar

Tawnee H.

Yelp
All the reviews are true. This place is BOMB. Highlights: - you can order your latte in different sweetness and light sweet is truly very light. This is so hard to find! Amazing job. - you can do a bowl or burrito plus it's so easy to customize based on what you like. I ordered it as is, but was pleased to find lots of options even though their menu is fairly small. Parking here is insane and I hope one day they found a better parking situation so I can happily come without the stress of finding a spot. Haha, but it's worth it and the burritos, salsas, and drinks live up to the hype!
google avatar

Caitlin S.

Yelp
I always have a great experience at Barista del Barrio. I've been trying to shake it up and explore different proteins and topping options, so this time I went for a breakfast bowl with sausage and sour cream. Delicious, and as always, way too much food. Luckily the bowls reheat well, so I was able to enjoy a second breakfast a few days later. And don't sleep on the Barrio Berryade- cool, refreshing and flavorful.
google avatar

Michelle M.

Yelp
I finally tried this place and wow, it's amazing. There was a line but it moved fast and gave me plenty of time to decide what I wanted to order. That being said there is a wait. I got the bacon breakfast burrito. The salsa is sooo good! And I got the Mexican chocolate latte, yummy!
google avatar

Emily T.

Yelp
Came on Sunday morning around 10am, and line went to the end of the parking lot. That line was persistent, but moved pretty quickly. Ordered in 20 minutes, and got the machaca burrito with guacamole, chorizo burrito, and horchata cold brew (less sweet with oat milk). The total came out to about $25. My husband was excited to open up the foil and see 2 burritos instead of 1. He wishes this could always happen, getting a second surprise burrito. The chorizo was deliciously seasoned and went perfectly with the spicy salsa provided. The machaca was good as well, but we preferred the chorizo overall. Husband recommends next time going chorizo & adding guacamole. Horchata cold brew was delicious and I love that you can adjust sweetness.
google avatar

Yelp
For coffee and breakfast after my morning hike, I enjoy Barrista del Barrio! Today I noticed they opened up a new little shop next to the order counter, where you can get cookies, treats, tortillas, their own coffee beans, shirts, pens, knickknacks, makeup. I picked up a tamale with carnitas and eggs. Their freshly prepared salsa comes in red or green, is excellent! They even sell jars. It's a little treasure with very limited parking, so parking is in a private neighborhood. Please check them out, it's very unassuming but this spot received a James Beard Award nomination, the Oscars of the food industry! You are in for a wonderful breakfast.
google avatar

CW L.

Yelp
Not a traditional place that we would stop for breakfast but I wanted to go based on what I watched on YouTube. This is a hole in the wall but the coffee and food were great. We had a butter pecan latte, a mazapan latte and breakfast burritos. The price seemed high for our order but we were pleasantly surprised when we realized an order of a breakfast burrito came with two. The service was fast and friendly but parking was horrible. This place is great and it was evident as the line was to the street and down the sidewalk. (But the line moved fast). When in Tucson you need to eat here.
google avatar

Raina C.

Yelp
Not sure how I feel about this place anymore. THEY DON'T SHOW PRICES ANYWHERE, why? Please post prices on the website or something. Also, I had about 5 drinks of my 20oz coffee because it's all ice. I'm all about supporting local businesses, and I get inflation, but I feel a little cheated.
google avatar

Jaymi D.

Yelp
I loved it here!!! Such great food and coffee drinks. I tried the horchata espresso and got the chorizo burrito with green and red salsa. It is a popular spot and the line was a little long. Next time I will order ahead of time. Finding parking can be tricky too. Will definitely be back soon. The service was so nice.
google avatar

Alvin L.

Yelp
Found Barista Del Barrio on Yelp and so glad we went! There was a line when we showed up which was a sign that the food would be good and oh it was! We had coffee along with two breakfast burritos and a tamale. Both breakfast burritos were so so good - we had the Machaca and the chorizo. A Highly recommend if your craving a breakfast burrito and a cup of coffee
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
This is still a terrific little place but, being perfectly frank, last wknd I got the machaca burrito and there was so little meat inside (compensated by way too much potato). For $13 including tax/tip there is a whole world of "meatier" possibilities (and with faster service to boot). Just keeping it real folks
google avatar

Princess E.

Yelp
OMG this place is YUMMY!!!!!! Service is quick, friendly and the food is great! We ordered 1 burrito to share and it was quite filling and oh so yummy. The horchessa is something you don't want to miss! This is definitely heaven in a cup! So glad we stopped at this little gem.
google avatar

Genevieve M.

Yelp
Cute coffee spot with food options on the westside. Outdoor seating only. I was surprised (in a good way) to find a burrito order comes with two chunky filled ones... one for sharing (or not!). Several drink options. I didn't find the espresso as potent in my latte but my company thought theirs was just right. Puppy friendly and pups got a pup cup which she highly recommends. Parking is a bear and the lines can get pretty long. But the friendly staff and cute space makes up for it! Oh and puppers friendly space
google avatar

Jerry H.

Yelp
Connecting the burrito dots in Tucson you can't miss this consistently great hidden gem. I love Barista Del Barrio. Great food, great coffee, outstanding customer service, and chill outdoors sections. Here's the thing, you gotta take the good with the bad. It's not even that bad just for the uninitiated be ready for Awful parking and long lines.
google avatar

Chris R.

Yelp
I have eaten here several times. Great food, great service at a reasonable price! They have also extended their hours.
google avatar

Samantha G.

Yelp
Best breakfast burritos I've ever had! I would highly recommend checking this place out. I would order ahead as the line can get long. Also, the horchessa latte was delicious!
google avatar

Cari A.

Yelp
Such a popular spot! There was a line that was formed even before the business opened. Once you pay, you get a buzzer and pick up your order at the window to the left of the cashier. Pros: -their drinks are delicious -the burrito was tasty! Love that it had grill marks on it -there are two outside areas to eat. I appreciated that they had A/C that was wrong in the outside area Cons: -limited parking stalls in their lot. However, we were able to find street parking in the residential area
google avatar

Ashley P.

Yelp
I had to track down this place so I could tell my friend to go here for breakfast on their drive cross country! I couldn't believe I hadn't written a review yet. We ALWAYS make a point to stop in Tuscan for these breakfast burritos. The dirty chai latte is also bomb. Get up early and eat your breakfast with the sun. It's always such a pleasure. The location is usually busy, but it's very picturesque, with plenty of locals waiting in line. You'll feel full and ready for the road trip ahead.
google avatar

Gail U.

Yelp
Line waiting for 8 a.m. opening. Mega popular business which closes at noon. Unbelievable how long line extends from order window out of their property along the sidewalk. Extensive variety of beverages and breakfast items. Glad Doc researched for our visit to Tucson. Just heard church bells chiming. You are given a beeper like in a restaurant alerting you when your order is ready at the pick up window. Met a friendly local couple who shared tons of laughter with us while we waited for our order in the back outdoor dining area.
google avatar

Jennifer P.

Yelp
Went yesterday again. Been here about 10 times. Always a line. The burritos are okay- not $14 okay. I had no idea that soyrizo was $3.50. Check out prices online. It's deceiving what premium protein is and I didn't get a discount for no eggs. Another hint- look on-line and pre-order and they do half orders. A normal one is 2 burritos. When they were more affordable , the hype and wait was tolerable. It's a no go for me now.
google avatar

Maria T.

Yelp
Awesome food and great service! The taste of the food is authentic, and their drinks are super good.
google avatar

Astrid A.

Yelp
Dulce de Leche latte half sweet. Perfect combination of sweet and caffeine! I was too hungry to take a picture but the burrito was AMAZING. This place is the perfect spot if you want a quick breakfast burrito and a cup of coffee. Food is great and service is nice. And if you are not in a rush or visiting like me, they have a nice seating area to enjoy your breakfast.

Evan Z.

Yelp
Please post your prices on your menus and not just on your point of sale. I've never ordered food without clearing seeing prices posted on the menu boards.
google avatar

Mia E.

Yelp
I just finished inhaling my food and haven't left writing a review - 10/10. Service: Amazing! Long line (got here at 8 AM) but moved pretty quickly. Everyone was so friendly. Food: Whoever said it was regular lied. It is SO good!! & I am a breakfast burrito connoisseur. One thing to note that I haven't found in reviews: I don't eat pork so I was nervous, but they have other options: Chorizo (theirs is made with beef), Machaca (dried beef cooked in green chile, onions, garlic - ABSOLUTELY BOMB!!), and chicken. Also, coffee is ridiculous. I got the seasonal brown sugar w cinnamon foam - to die for (and I don't like sweet coffee, perfect balance) Ambiance: It's a cute little place. Lots of street parking. In a residential area. Dog friendly & different places to sit.

Brianna C.

Yelp
The food was pretty good! Line was pretty long to wait in but worth it and the tip button is stuck on 15% when paying.

Lindsay C.

Yelp
They have amazing vegan and regular breakfast burritos! I went twice during my trip they were so good! I loved the vegan hemp tamale as an option to add in to the burritos. The salsas, both the red and the green were amazing as well! The staff are super nice and they are fast as well!
google avatar

Adrienne D.

Yelp
I LOOOOOVE this place!! This is my 3rd time in Tucson, and we always have to make a stop at least once during our trips. Hubby had the chorizo breakfast burrito, I had the sausage one.. one order comes with 2 burritos (as pictured) and they are quite substantial. THE BEST PART- is the Horchessa Frappe I wiiiish I could have it every day!! The lady who took our order was amazing. I believe she was the same lady back in our 2022 visit, too. The place is quite nice with ample amount of seating, bathrooms and a water station. Surely, we'll be back again

Vanessa G.

Yelp
Found this place as UA student in 2018, and now drive from Phoenix now at least once a month. Best horchata coffee and burritos ever and even better service!!!
