Tucson’s Best Restaurants and Bars: Where to Eat in the Old Pueblo | Eater Phoenix

"Barista del Barrio offers a simple but well-executed breakfast menu with marvelously friendly service. Rather than serving one massive burrito, the restaurant serves two smaller, grilled breakfast burritos in an order. The lattes feature distinctly Mexican flavors such as horchata and mazapan (peanut candy)." - Jackie Tran

Google
First time visitor. Mind blown - two burritos come in every order!!! We got chorizo and machaca and both were excellent, I'd choose the machaca next time. The line was long for a Thursday at 11am, but it moved quickly and our order came out quickly once we ordered. Our iced latte (Horchesso) was also delicious. I'll be back everytime I visit Tucson. Five stars all around!

Google
Listen, I'm a breakfast burrit-HOE. I LOVE me some breakfast burritos, this spot slapped. I got mine with the machaca and bacon! The juice was refreshing as well, came out quick. Dope spot to just chill, vibe, everyone was in a good mood. Barista was kind and helped make a recommendation on the burrito! You GOTTA check it out if you love a burrito in the city

Google
I have be sitting on writing a review on this for so long because there isn't much to say. THIS PLACE IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST! I always get the breakfast burrito - chorizo, extra eggs, extra beans, cheese and no potatoes. And every time I come back I feel like it is better than the last. This place has a line wrapping around the sidewalk, for good reason, during peak hours. That is the only downside. But as long as you wake up early enough, I think you can be the rush. I wish they were open 24/7!

Google
Had a grilled burrito (chili con carne) and a chorizo bowl. Food was okay but not worth 30 min waiting. parking is another issue here.

Google
I’ve heard wait times can be 30-90 minutes. I got my food in 60 minutes on a Saturday at 9am. Got breakfast burritos and a horchata coffee. When you order 1 burrito, it comes as 2 smaller burritos. There was a water mist above part of the waiting line. I wonder if they could be more prepped for the people but there were a lot of people, and this is a popular place, so I’m not complaining too much. Great seating for outdoor dining. People seemed to make room for others and share tables with others when needed. Worth the wait, I’d ultimately say!

Jorge M.

Google
Barrista del Barrio's breakfast grilled burritos remind me so much of Sunday mornings at Grandma's house. The coffee here is also very good. You can taste it's freshly roasted. I had one machaca burrito and one chorizo burrito, which i traded with my wife (order comes with 2 small burritos). You also get red and green salsa, which are very tasty. I also ordered the mazapan iced latte. There are outdoor seating spaces available as well. Overall, it was a great experience. I would highly suggest showing up early as you are more than likely gonna be standing in line for a few minutes. Also, parking spaces are limited, and it seems like neighboring houses are not fond of sharing their street.

Google
Wow. Wow. Wow. Amazing service. Staff was so nice and considerate. Menu was phenomenal - very hard to choose what to order. And the food and drinks were so delicious. Ended up with the iced horspresso latte, machaca grilled burrito and green tamale & it did not disappoint. Salsa was fuego too. Was relatively fast despite there being a line. Came back a year later and got a dozen tamales to take home because they don’t make them like this where I’m from!

Kari M.

Google
I seen this place on TikTok so I thought I would give it a shot and let me just tell you I’m sure glad I did. I ordered a latte coffee and a chorizo burrito. Both of them are absolutely amazing. I will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
Barista del Barrio is such a great little hole-in-the-wall coffee spot, and there's pretty much always a line -- which is usually a good sign. Every time I've gone, people are already waiting, but the service moves quickly and it's worth it. The coffee is excellent, and their breakfast burritos live up to the hype. They were voted Best Breakfast Burrito in Tucson, and they aren't lying. They let you build your own, and I tried the chorizo burrito and the machaca burrito. Both were amazing. I bought a few for my family, and everyone loved them. It's a simple walk-up spot with incredible food and great coffee. Absolutely worth the stop.

Yelp
Barista del Sol is the kind of place that reminds you why you fall in love with local food. Tucked right in the heart of Barrio Hollywood, it's an old converted house that's somehow managed to turn into Tucson's best-kept secret -- lines down the block, every kind of person in town waiting patiently for a bite of something sacred. And honestly? Worth. Every. Minute. This is the burrito to end all burritos -- easily the best I've had in years. Every bite is layered with flavor, the sauce is perfection, and you can just tell everything's made with love (and probably a few secret family recipes). The tamales are unreal too, and bonus points for offering vegan options that actually hit. There's only outdoor seating, but it adds to the charm -- the sunshine, the chatter, the smell of masa in the air. You just post up, unwrap your food, and know you're about to experience something that defines Tucson food culture. Barista del Sol isn't just a restaurant. It's a vibe, a neighborhood ritual, and a full-blown food heaven moment.

Yelp
Is this place overrated? Absolutely not. They have the best breakfast burritos I've ever had and a Mexican chocolate latte. You will need to wait, be prepared for that. Most of the waiting is to order, but they do have a little patio in the shade where you can eat. Limited tables, so if you need to grab and go, that probably works best. I went here twice in our short stay in Arizona. You will NOT regret it.
google avatar

Valerie S.

Yelp
Been coming here for a while now and I'm not sure what's changed, but the wait times are ridiculous for a breakfast burrito. The lines are still long because their burritos are great, but it seems their kitchen staff has bitten off more than they can chew! They now have dinner items and I'm unsure if that's the difference. In any event, I'm not a fan of having the new slow service. Everything else is the same but they need to get back to keeping it simple and consistent.
google avatar

Nancy F.

Yelp
Amazing, no line today!! They have the best machaca burritos with your choice of potato, egg, cheese and beans. Service was quick and friendly. They've added more seating and an area to wait for your order. The little shop is great. You can get tortillas, tamales, souvenirs, candy and toys.
google avatar

Erika P.

Yelp
10/10 my favorite quick burritos in Tucson! These take me right back to childhood in Rocky Point getting burritos from a beach vendor. The tortillas are so chewy and soft! I love the bacon or chorizo- cant go wrong either way! And now they have vegan options! The little shop is great for checking out while you wait (or for picking up preorders). The vibe is always chill- make sure you get there early - the line is usually long (but always worth it)! Ohhh and the bario berry lemonade is a must!!!
google avatar

Sam L.

Yelp
Usually deterred by the long line but finally made it out and the line moves quickly! The best quality is the grilled tortilla for the added texture. They come as 2 smaller hand-holdable burros and definitely solid with base fix ins. I doubled meat to get both chorizo and sausage and actually enjoyed the sausage a bit more for the breakfast burrito but no qualms with the chorizo. Also grabbed a tamale which tasted more like sweet corn masa. Would definitely come back if I'm in town looking for breakfast!
google avatar

Paul L.

Yelp
The vibe here is so pleasant and mellow. The over-the-top refreshing outdoor misters could put out a fire. All this is important because lines are a consistent thing here. I almost never order flavored coffees or specialty drinks. Here, though, the horchesso hot latte was balanced and not syrupy or artificial. The croissant with egg and cheese was good but sort of smooshed in the foil wrapping. It wasn't a deal breaker because it was good. Since I arrived by bicycle, this was more than enough food. I packed the bean and cheese burrito on my bike to snack on later after more riding. It was fresh and filling. I don't know that I've seen regular lines at any business in Tucson, especially one that has been open for some years. That Barista del Barrio has them obviously says a lot.

Yelp
Heard A Lot about this place from so many people. Today was the day! It was worth waiting for, as evidenced by the crowd. The line was long but a surprisingly short wait. It appears to be a University favorite based upon the bevy of lovely coeds. Everyone cheerful and happy to get their order in and take a seat. Lots of cute seating alcoves tucked in about the property. Our buzzer went off quickly indicating order ready for pick up. It was delicious!!!! They are happy to customize your order and have many vegan options which is nice. This is a multigenerational business and they have ties to the immediate neighborhood. This near west side spot is home to many long standing restaurants that know the value of delicious reasonably priced food served with love in a historic neighborhood. Breakfast burritos (2) or bowls are hot off the grill, wrapped for takeaway or outdoor covered seating. Nice murals are splashed about, I think some were done by local artist Danny Martin who is a legend. Either way. Go there now! Actually they close at 12:00 noon so wait until tomorrow. You will be hooked!
google avatar

Yelp
Very cozy spot! One line order system and you get a buzzer for when your order is ready! Lots of seating space and very great service. We just wanted a small breakfast before we headed to Bisbee so we got an order of the chorizo burrito to split between the two of us. It was two small burritos which I think they automatically make that way but it was perfect for us to split and kept us full for a few hours. The coffee was also very good and they had sugar free options which my partner and I always appreciate! We will definitely be back next time we're in Tucson!

Maya V.

Yelp
This place is great for a quick stop, or when you want to sit outside on a nice morning and enjoy your food. I love stopping by for their chorizo breakfast burritos with guac. They also have delicious sonoran-style tamales, I like to take the olive out, but that's just me. My one complaint is that parking can be a little difficult when its crowded, but wait times for food are never long.
google avatar

Katie R.

Yelp
The perfect stop when near downtown after a workout or just on a crisp morning. We stopped here after thrifting and it was amazing. I always recommend this place for breakfast!
google avatar

George T.

Yelp
I noticed they had a new item on their menu: Pork Salsa Verde. So I asked to have that in a breakfast burrito along with some green chili and what a combination it made!!!!! Their toasted tortilla with the salsa verde pork, green chili, eggs, potatoes and cheese made for the best flavors and BEST burrito in life!!!! Absolutely delicious y MUY SABROSO, burrito to die for and if the dead could taste - they'd come back to life! This will become a staple for me in addition to their other great breakfast burritos. A 5 star Michelin establishment could not equal this quality, flavors and deliciousness! And all of this here on Grande Ave in the Old Pueblo!
google avatar

Matthew R.

Yelp
I was looking for a good breakfast burrito and decided to check Yelp--and I wasn't disappointed. It was flavorful and savory at the same time. The green and red sauces both pack a punch. I was in and out within a few minutes, and the staff were friendly and polite. It's a nice little spot to grab a coffee and some food. Definitely a place you can visit multiple times and still try something new. 8.5 out of 10 So far my number 1 spot for burritos..
google avatar

Melissa Z.

Yelp
What a fun and friendly place! Almost has the chill and casual vibes of a place near the beach. We chilled in chairs in front while kids played with the giant Connect Four game. I haven't tried their award winning breakfast burrito, but the iced coffee and ice chai my daughter and I both ordered were delicious. Strong, full bodied coffee without the bitterness. The chai was the perfect balance of sweet and spice. Customer service is incredible. You feel like you're being cared for at someone's home. This place gets a long line and parking can be wonky, but it is so so worth the stop whenever you can.
google avatar

Yelp
I love local coffee shops and whenever I travel, I try to find 'the best' spots. In all of my travels, Barista Del Barrio ranks as one of the best. Yes, there will be a line. Are you two years old? If not, I think you can deal with it. Good things come to those that wait, after all. If you aren't local, yes, you may need to ask what the drinks are. We went two days in a row because they shut down for the holidays; the cashier remembered us! Considering how busy the place is, I thought that was nice customer service.
google avatar

Jason S.

Yelp
Cool little joint. Great breakfast burritos as everyone says. Funky areas to sit. Be prepared to wait a little while on asphalt.
google avatar

Grace V.

Yelp
Barista Del Barrio is simply the BEST burrito in Tucson! Their coffee is very high quality as well (I love the peanut butter flavor!) I always go here post Tumamoc Hill and it hits the spot every time. The owners truly care about the community of Tucson and I love that it is a family-run business. Also the outdoor seating area is so cute, really captures the eclectic vibe of Tucson!
google avatar

Heidi H.

Yelp
I've been wanting to finally try this locally owned family spot and it lived up to everything I've heard and we are now regulars. As we walked up to the window we noticed all the welcoming touches like a beautiful Danny Martin mural, hand painted signs, and plenty of spaces to sit outside and enjoy the sensational food. It was busy but, super fast. We ordered at the window and service was excellent. My husband and I both wanted the breakfast sausage and egg burrito. And it was delicious. An ideal combo of eggs and meat. It also came with 2 per order, which was a great amount. Since I eat super hot, fiery salsa, theirs was excellent! Just the right amount of heat. Our order didn't take that long and in the meantime I checked out their small market, which had some cute local artist merchandise and premade frozen food you could purchase. To drink I ordered the horchata latte because it was so unique. It was also a great choice. Barista Del Barrio is really delicious. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Chris P.

Yelp
The best in the hood, but yall ready know that! The espresso is on point and the service is personable and friendly!!
google avatar

Erik F.

Yelp
Hands down the greatest breakfast burrito in all of the United States. This is not a drill, go here.
google avatar

Kristina K.

Yelp
I have been wanting to come back to Barista Del Barrio since the first time I had it two years ago. I have heard nothing but good things about their breakfast burritos and I knew I had to try them. I finally had the chance to come here a couple days ago and I loved it. We came early on Friday morning and there were already people in line, but the like usual the line moved fast. My brother and I decided to split the chorizo burrito, which we ordered without potatoes. I love how all the burritos come with two half burritos wrapped individually. It makes it much easier to share or save for later. The chorizo in the burrito definitely had a kick to it, but it was enjoyable! Since the last time I came here they have added more to their outdoor section. There are now yard games and plenty of seating that is tucked away. I will definitely be back again!
google avatar

Aaron T.

Yelp
Food is fantastic, service is fast and nice. Be prepared to walk because there is very little parking. Super eclectic spot that represents the best of Tucson.
google avatar

Jenna G.

Yelp
Order came with two good sized burritos! Perfect after a morning hike! There's a short line and wait but nothing more than any other walk up place. Pretty trendy spot. Offers vegan / vegetarian options for those who partake Coffee is pretty average but pairs well with the burritos. Will come back when in the area!
google avatar

Jenny S.

Yelp
Grabbed a burrito from this stand on the way to the airport since Barrista Del Barrio came highly recommended!! ---sausage breakfast burrito, yummy with a good toasty char but our ice coffee was just okay They are busy, but the wait isn't too long!

Carley Y.

Yelp
Always fantastic! Sometimes driving up the line may seem alarming depending on when you get there but it moves so fast, the staff is very welcoming and quick! Coffee and burritos are always great!
google avatar

Tiffany S.

Yelp
Been here a few times it's always busy and I see why the food is amazing. The staff excellent, very informative and friendly and it's always consistent., parking may be a little tricky, but I tend to park up the street and walk. It's a nice walk and that way I know I can get my food and go without having the hassle of trying to get in and out.. not only do they offer delicious burritos to anyone's liking the coffee lattes are all delicious and now I see they're offering some frozen drinks which I will be trying. Next time I go.. With plenty of available seating outside, it's nice to see that they have Mr so that during the summer heat, you can maintain your coolness while enjoying a delicious meal
google avatar

Palak S.

Yelp
The quality of the food is DELICIOUS! Parking is really challenging and is all street/alley parking. Seating is a little random and all outdoors, but we found a spot easily. There was a pretty long line (20min) and another 25 minute wait after ordering. That wait was hard with a baby, but you can order online ahead of time, which I'll definitely do next time!
google avatar

Ashley H.

Yelp
I was looking for a hidden gem in Tucson for breakfast and saw so many folks rave about this place on TikTok. I love that it is in a neighborhood and it feels very family oriented. The line was long but it moved rather quickly. I ordered the ham burrito and was surprised when they gave me 2 small burritos. The beans and egg paired well with the ham and I was obsessed with the green salsa. Their coffee machine was broken when we went but I'd certainly be back to try their famous cafecitos.
google avatar

Miriam S.

Yelp
We arrived here on a Sunday morning and there was already a long line, it took us about 30 minutes to arrive to the cashier and order our food. Their service was quick( our order came out in about 8 minutes). We decided to order a machaca burrito and a chorizo burrito, they were both good sized and delicious but next time I'll stick with the machaca only, they both came wit beans, cheese and eggs. We also ordered a Barrio Berrayde since it was like 85 degrees and we were thirsty but it was extremely sweet and unnatural, possibly made out of a lemonade powder mix. Not much seating available so plan for a take out.
google avatar

Liana M.

Yelp
Yet another update...BDB has recently opened a bodega serving up local items, containers of their salsas, and some other goodies, including CHEESECAKES!! I was going to grab the one in the case, but the woman I chatted with offered to get me a fresh one. You can choose your toppings as well - she recommended lechera and Oreo, so I got that! Hot damn was it tasty. We were happy we brought our cooler and enjoyed our cheesecakes as a post-hiking treat. It was nice to shop around while hubby waited in line for the burritos ;) This trip, I opted to try the brown sugar and lechera cold brew medium sweet - it was a little too sweet for me, so next time I'm gonna stick with the barrio cold brew :)
google avatar

Misha T.

Yelp
One of the best breakfast burritos I've ever had. Note that each order comes with two small-ish ones, but put together it's easily a full breakfast. The line can be long but it all goes fast enough. Their various coffee drinks are quite good too.
google avatar

Mia E.

Yelp
I just finished inhaling my food and haven't left writing a review - 10/10. Service: Amazing! Long line (got here at 8 AM) but moved pretty quickly. Everyone was so friendly. Food: Whoever said it was regular lied. It is SO good!! & I am a breakfast burrito connoisseur. One thing to note that I haven't found in reviews: I don't eat pork so I was nervous, but they have other options: Chorizo (theirs is made with beef), Machaca (dried beef cooked in green chile, onions, garlic - ABSOLUTELY BOMB!!), and chicken. Also, coffee is ridiculous. I got the seasonal brown sugar w cinnamon foam - to die for (and I don't like sweet coffee, perfect balance) Ambiance: It's a cute little place. Lots of street parking. In a residential area. Dog friendly & different places to sit.
google avatar

Rebecca I.

Yelp
I've been waiting to come here for almost two years because I heard they had the best breakfast burritos in town and they lived up to the hype! There is a line on the weekends but it goes fast. The lattes have multiple flavors to choose from and are delicious. The burritos are sooo good and the perfect size to not make you feel overly full. I will def go back.
google avatar

Bailey M.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious breakfast burritos. An order comes with two burritos. One was plenty so I would plan to split with a friend or save the other half for later! I had everything on it, bacon for the meat. It was so good! I had the Oreo frappe, it was way too sweet for me. It tasted like an Oreo but almost too much like an Oreo. The smallest size is huge. Very friendly staff, not a long wait! Friendly neighborhood!

Jill C.

Yelp
Hands down one of the best breakfast burritos I've ever had! It's not too heavy, and the burrito comes split into two smaller burritos - one to eat on site, one to take to go! I was equally impressed with their menu options and burrito additions, and their iced lattes are also very tasty! I went on a holiday weekend, and yes there was a line, but it didn't take but 20 minutes to get our food. They're efficient in that small kitchen! I cannot wait to go back!
google avatar

Tawnee H.

Yelp
All the reviews are true. This place is BOMB. Highlights: - you can order your latte in different sweetness and light sweet is truly very light. This is so hard to find! Amazing job. - you can do a bowl or burrito plus it's so easy to customize based on what you like. I ordered it as is, but was pleased to find lots of options even though their menu is fairly small. Parking here is insane and I hope one day they found a better parking situation so I can happily come without the stress of finding a spot. Haha, but it's worth it and the burritos, salsas, and drinks live up to the hype!
google avatar

Caitlin S.

Yelp
I always have a great experience at Barista del Barrio. I've been trying to shake it up and explore different proteins and topping options, so this time I went for a breakfast bowl with sausage and sour cream. Delicious, and as always, way too much food. Luckily the bowls reheat well, so I was able to enjoy a second breakfast a few days later. And don't sleep on the Barrio Berryade- cool, refreshing and flavorful.
google avatar

Michelle M.

Yelp
I finally tried this place and wow, it's amazing. There was a line but it moved fast and gave me plenty of time to decide what I wanted to order. That being said there is a wait. I got the bacon breakfast burrito. The salsa is sooo good! And I got the Mexican chocolate latte, yummy!
google avatar

Emily T.

Yelp
Came on Sunday morning around 10am, and line went to the end of the parking lot. That line was persistent, but moved pretty quickly. Ordered in 20 minutes, and got the machaca burrito with guacamole, chorizo burrito, and horchata cold brew (less sweet with oat milk). The total came out to about $25. My husband was excited to open up the foil and see 2 burritos instead of 1. He wishes this could always happen, getting a second surprise burrito. The chorizo was deliciously seasoned and went perfectly with the spicy salsa provided. The machaca was good as well, but we preferred the chorizo overall. Husband recommends next time going chorizo & adding guacamole. Horchata cold brew was delicious and I love that you can adjust sweetness.

Amanda L.

Yelp
Chorizo burrito + Peppermint latte Parking was a hassle. No real designated lot so you're stuck with finding street parking in a residential location. Long wait but it was worth it. I suggest going with a friend so you have company for the line! Atmosphere is nice, and the seating is limited but unique. The chorizo burrito was delicious and portion sizes are generous for the price point. Peppermint latte was just okay, nothing to write home about.
google avatar

Dawn C.

Yelp
For coffee and breakfast after my morning hike, I enjoy Barrista del Barrio! Today I noticed they opened up a new little shop next to the order counter, where you can get cookies, treats, tortillas, their own coffee beans, shirts, pens, knickknacks, makeup. I picked up a tamale with carnitas and eggs. Their freshly prepared salsa comes in red or green, is excellent! They even sell jars. It's a little treasure with very limited parking, so parking is in a private neighborhood. Please check them out, it's very unassuming but this spot received a James Beard Award nomination, the Oscars of the food industry! You are in for a wonderful breakfast.
google avatar

Samantha M.

Yelp
I always come here when I'm craving for burritos! It always comes in 2 small burritos, yummy! I love their chorizo burritos! The red salsa is spicy but too good to not eat! Their iced horchata latte is a must try! I always add a shot of espresso and make it chai! The front desk lady is always so friendly! She knows some American Sign Language, ASL and that's accessible! There are plenty of seating areas with chill, Latinx vibes. Their pricing is very reasonable! Be patient, and your drink/meal will come to you delicious and authentic!

Chris P.

Yelp
Drinks are always so fast and service is kind. Only problem is the long line! A good problem to have
google avatar

Lindsey B.

Yelp
The customer service and food was great but definitely double check your orders before you leave! We paid for and ordered an egg/cheese bagel sandwich, add cream cheese and only got a plain bagel with cream cheese on the side. I also ordered no cheese due to lactose intolerance and got sick so I'm pretty sure mine had cheese. Great food but double check your orders before you leave!
google avatar

Alvin L.

Yelp
Found Barista Del Barrio on Yelp and so glad we went! There was a line when we showed up which was a sign that the food would be good and oh it was! We had coffee along with two breakfast burritos and a tamale. Both breakfast burritos were so so good - we had the Machaca and the chorizo. A Highly recommend if your craving a breakfast burrito and a cup of coffee
google avatar

CW L.

Yelp
Not a traditional place that we would stop for breakfast but I wanted to go based on what I watched on YouTube. This is a hole in the wall but the coffee and food were great. We had a butter pecan latte, a mazapan latte and breakfast burritos. The price seemed high for our order but we were pleasantly surprised when we realized an order of a breakfast burrito came with two. The service was fast and friendly but parking was horrible. This place is great and it was evident as the line was to the street and down the sidewalk. (But the line moved fast). When in Tucson you need to eat here.
google avatar

Raina C.

Yelp
Not sure how I feel about this place anymore. THEY DON'T SHOW PRICES ANYWHERE, why? Please post prices on the website or something. Also, I had about 5 drinks of my 20oz coffee because it's all ice. I'm all about supporting local businesses, and I get inflation, but I feel a little cheated.
google avatar

Cari A.

Yelp
Such a popular spot! There was a line that was formed even before the business opened. Once you pay, you get a buzzer and pick up your order at the window to the left of the cashier. Pros: -their drinks are delicious -the burrito was tasty! Love that it had grill marks on it -there are two outside areas to eat. I appreciated that they had A/C that was wrong in the outside area Cons: -limited parking stalls in their lot. However, we were able to find street parking in the residential area
