New Dog Park and Bar Bark House Social Is Opening in Austin | Eater Austin

"A new dog park–slash–bar will open in the Govalle neighborhood at 5022 East Cesar Chavez Street in spring 2024. Bark House Social will have an acre‑wide off‑leash turfed park, a dedicated area for shyer and smaller dogs, and a splash area to help pups cool off. For humans there will be a bar serving cocktails and beers as well as coffee and nonalcoholic beverages, a to‑be‑named food truck offering Latin‑ish dishes, and lots of outdoor spaces. Co‑owners Christian Vargas and Sandra Tanaka, who run a dog daycare and boarding company in Atlanta, are working with business consultant Jill Dretzka of Work & Woof; membership options will include daily, six‑month, and yearly rates, and the owners plan to expand into other parts of Austin and elsewhere in Texas." - Nadia Chaudhury

Bark House Social is PAW-some! 🐾 My pup and I had the best time here — it’s like a doggy paradise! The park is super clean, the vibe is friendly, and the staff are absolutely incredible. They’re so attentive — constantly making sure the dogs are safe, the water bowls are full, and everyone (humans included!) is having a great time. You can tell they really love what they do. My dog left tired, happy, and covered in smiles . We’ll definitely be back again and again!

Bark House Social is THE ultimate dog-friendly hangout in Austin. My husband Christian and I bring our dogs, Poppy and Lily, and they are instantly thrilled from the moment we arrive. The play areas are spotless and safe, and the staff is warm and attentive. Chris and Sandra Vargas are amazing owners who have created a place where both dogs and their people feel at home. Their passion shows in every detail, from the friendly atmosphere to the vibrant community vibe. If you have a dog in Austin, you NEED to experience Bark House!

Bark House Social is such a fantastic spot on the East Side of Austin! It’s the perfect hangout where you can bring your furry friends to play while you enjoy some truly well-crafted cocktails. The space is brand new, beautiful, and thoughtfully designed with plenty of room for pups to run around, both indoors and outdoors. They have designated play areas, making it a comfortable experience for both pets and their humans. Parking is limited on-site, but they’re surrounded by plenty of free street parking, which actually makes it super easy and accessible to swing by. Once inside, you’ll find a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere that makes it fun for everyone. The food truck on-site is absolutely amazing, and the cocktails pair perfectly with the vibe. What really sets Bark House Social apart is the owners and staff. They are incredibly attentive, warm, and genuinely caring, not just toward their members but also day-pass guests. You can tell they truly love building a community here. Highly recommend checking it out, whether you’re a regular or just dropping in, it’s a place both you and your pup will love!

We are so lucky that a place like BARk House Social exists! My dog is young and still working on recall, so it is really nice to have a huge, secure space where he can burn off energy with other pups. The staff is so kind! From the owners to Bark Bouncers to the bartenders…everyone is super friendly. I especially love seeing Robby and Jacob behind the bar. They are both hilarious and always go out of their way to greet me and my pup. You can tell how passionate the folks are at BARk House. They’re already offering fun, unique events (drag trivia, co-working) and are working to enhance the space by adding a huge outdoor TV. I can’t wait to see what else they come up with!

Bark House is the place to be daily. Get to let your dog run and socials in a safe environment while you sip great drinks and eat good food. The Jellyfish as you know is a must. And they have the best sports games on.

My dog Magnus is OBSESSED with this place! The second we park, he’s pulling me to the entrance because he can’t wait to get inside. The park is super clean, safe, and full of happy pups, and the staff are always so friendly. I love being able to relax with a drink while Magnus gets all his energy out and makes new friends. It’s honestly the highlight of his week (and mine too). Such a fun concept — highly recommend to any dog parent in Austin!

BARk House Social opened up near me a few months ago, and I’ve got to say, it’s become part of my weekly routine. My pups love it there. They’re getting a little older now, so they’ll run around for a bit and then plop down on the turf like they own the place. The Bark Bouncers are always awesome. They’re super friendly and do a great job keeping an eye on things, especially when a few dogs get a little too excited about making new friends. I've also told friends it’s a great spot even if they don’t have a dog. The drinks are really good and their chai-tea is my goto drink. It definitely has a "come hang out, sip something tasty, and enjoy watching the dogs do their thing" kinda vibe. My pups are happy, so I’m happy, and I’ve already dragged a few friends there to see what all the fuss is about. Definitely glad this place opened up in the neighborhood.

Some friends and I stopped by for their grand opening and we were blown away! I don’t own a dog, but if I did I would definitely get a membership. The dogs were having the time of their lives and the owners get to enjoy the air conditioned full bar and food options. It’s a great bar to come for drinks without a pet and I know they will be having events soon. The eastside really needed BARk House! I will be a regular here for sure!

Yelp
The founders of this business followed my cooking Instagram account months ago, and at some point unfollowed me (it's okay I'm not bitter). So that's how I initially knew they existed, and more recently Austin influencer Jenna Palek posted that her friends actually own this so that's super cool! Not sure if I came on a bad day or at a low-peak time but it was kind of "dead". I wasn't personally looking for a more busy environment at the time, but just an observation for a Thursday around 5-6pm. I borrowed their restroom to do an outfit change, then ordered a drink because I felt bad taking up space while waiting for another nearby business to open where my event was being hosted. It was fun to watch the staff and patrons laugh together and see "neighborhood camaraderie". One of the staff was celebrating a birthday so I joined in on the singing to him! Also, just to note that there's only a combo "human and dog" entrance, I was trying to locate a solo "human" entrance but I don't think there is one. The bar patio area is leashed, but the yard isn't! They also have food trucks on site but I didn't try them.

Yelp
So great! So needed! We don't have any real dog parks on the east side and I'm just thrilled to have a place for my pup to run around. It's well organized, staff is super friendly, the Bark Bouncers watch your dogs (and even pick up after them) so you can enjoy food/drink/socializing and not be all eyes on the dogs at every second. It feels clean and kept up, and the drinks are just as pricey as every other bar...but not more so! The food trucks are also tasty and there's decent variety since there are 3. I thought the $45/month was a little pricey, but I've already been here every day since I signed up, so I will probably do an annual membership (comes out to $35/month). They have fun events and I have also met a bunch of people. I'm hooked.

Yelp
This place is amazing!!! I've been to a couple other paid dog parks in Austin and Bark House Social is the best. Full bar and serves food! I've had the cosmopawliton and the mutt mule, both were delicious. I haven't tried their food yet. I wanted to on a Tuesday although the kitchen was closed. I'm a single dog mom, new to Austin, and it's a great place to meet people. I brought a date there and had such a good time. The bartender Jacob was so sweet taking orders from the outside benches. The staff are in control monitoring dogs. My sweet Portuguese Water Dog can get a little too extra and he might annoy other dogs by playing too rough. The staff really knows how to diffuse the situation so I can relax while sipping my cocktails. They also pick up poop and hose down the fake grass if your dog has diarrhea. Ten out of ten would highly recommend

Yelp
Bark House Social had its grand opening yesterday 8/16/25 and we're so glad to have them in our part of town. It's a social club for the pups and humans are welcome! All dogs must be registered and you can purchase memberships or day passes. Day passes work best for us because our little guy is reactive and skittish at times. There is so much room outside for the pups to play and frolic. The playground comes complete with little swimming pools too. Lots of picnic bench seating for humans (with umbrellas because hello, Texas sun). Food truck on the premises. Nice indoor bar with a great lineup of cocktails and beers. This is a fun, creative, and unique addition to the east side! PS: dogs must provide proof of updated vaccinations.

Yelp
BARk House Social is everything the east side has been missing!!! The newest dog park/bar in town finally has a full bar AND indoor seating!! The outside space is beautiful Astro turf, with a rocky area and soon to be splash pad!! There's a gorgeous interior bar and restrooms as well as a covered patio, plenty of space to WFH while the pups play!! There's a food truck, and soon there will be QR codes in the tables to order and have everything brought right out to you! The staff is SO unbelievably kind and welcoming and we cannot wait to see this place take off! Welcome to the east side, BARk House, we're so so excited to have you!!

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place. The drinks, the environment, and the employees were all great. Plenty of seating and a lot of room for the dogs to run around. They also have coffee and matcha which is another bonus for people who don't really drink alcohol. Dogs must have updated vaccines btw. $15 for day pass or $45 monthly

Yelp
What a fabulous place with great music, WiFi, coffee, dogs, dog park, dog splash pad and dog "bouncers" to help manage the park. The park has turf so dogs don't get filthy! Humans free, dogs with a fee and mush have vaccines. Great place to cowork or just come have a coffee, cocktail, beer or yummy mocktail (ask Robby for his rec!) Robby and King were so very welcoming and kind to humans and dogs. I didn't want to leave.
