I love an outdoor place on the water. Most of them are overpriced high-end fancy restaurants. It was great to have a place where you can go have a beer and listen to a little music and relax. I do recommend the fish tacos. They were yummy! Great beer selection as well. Everybody who work there was super nice. The only thing I didn't like was everything is self-served. You've got to go to the bar to get your drinks then you have to go to the food counter to get your food. Not the end of the world but I would have preferred full wait service

3.5/5 stars But hear me out… the spot IS a nice vibe. Bar has a good vibe (but no happy hour specials during the week?) The food was good but the prices here are too much to justify it. It has so much potential but just falls short as a whole. I would go back but certainly won’t be paying $20+ dollars for minimal food. This isn’t Disney world lol

This spot has a great vibe, and the bar area is really inviting, though I was surprised there weren't any weekday happy hour specials. While the food tasted good, the portions felt too small to justify the high price point. The place has a lot of potential, but it falls short on value. I’d consider returning for the atmosphere, but I won’t be spending $20+ on a light snack again—the pricing feels a bit 'theme park' for what you actually get.

We were walking around before getting back on our train to head home. We found Barley on the Hudson via Google. It was a very pleasant experience and Liza is the best. We got something light and enjoyed the atmosphere. I don’t usually opt for outdoor dining, for various reasons. However this was such a laid back, enjoyable vibe overlooking the water with ample space between tables. The restrooms were clean and we felt valued as customers. Thank you.

This is my 3rd time here and I will keep coming back. The view and atmosphere is so chill, I always feel like I’m on a vacation here. The customer service is great! Our bartender, Christian, was the best! He was friendly and offered great service. The live band, Mike Ruskin Music, added to the chill vacation vibe. They were great! The food is decent. It’s your average American fare. It’s not bad, not great, it’s decent. I keep coming back, not for the food, but the atmosphere. I would recommend to a friend.

This is a cool spot right on the Hudson in Tarrytown. It has a relatively casual and relaxed vibe. The menu is a bit limited but the food was good. We ordered fish and chips, tuna sandwich, mozzarella sticks, guacamole, corn dip, and fish tacos. You basically seat yourself and order food at the counter and they bring the food to you. Choice of refreshments, especially non-alcoholic was scarce. The staff were nice and helpful. The food was a bit pricy but that's normal for these riverside food spots.

Barley on the Hudson is the kind of place that you'd see in movie where the lead character owns the somewhat rundown tour boat and he competes against the flashy high-end tour boat ...this would be the place he would hang out at and talk to the owner every day. This is not meant to be an insult. It's just to give you the visualization. The entrance isn't easy to spot, it's not lit up, and it is between parked cars. The sign says SEAT YOURSELF written nicely in chalk. You walk past bathrooms, and open doors that you don't go down, to enter into the proper area and it's ...nice. Big bar with lots of bar seating is available and pushed back further area has many more seats. These are right next to the outdoor kitchen area. There are tiki torches, one is lit. There are servers but you're not sure if they are the servers until you see them grabbing food and serving it. But it sort of looks like you go to the cook and tell him what you want ..you don't ..but it looks that way. The bartender handled every order I saw and nobody was waiting long....the bar and kitchen staff did not keep anyone waiting, very impressive. The food was expensive...for food served in an old style basket with paper, it was surprisingly expensive. Everything was about 18.00. The sandwichices came as is and everything extra was 2.00. If you wanted cheese on your burger, 2.00. If you wanted avocado, 2.00. Etc Guacamole and chips...17.00. Alcohol was what you'd expect and they did have a decent amount of variety when it came to their beers and the pour was a good size. The live music was nice. This night had a one man band keyboardist who had a great voice. Played Huey Lewis, Billy Joel, and some modern country and it all sounded good. He did a nice little Beatles Medley that was very well done. Overall, this isn't where you go when you want to impress a first date. It is where you go when you've been dating and you want to get out and enjoy the night air. You will get decent view of the Tappan Zee if you sit at the end...you will see docked boats...but if you wanted a couple drinks and decent vibe, you're good here. This isn't a place that Bar Rescue would flip out at...but would probably offer some good suggestions...about maybe the entrance way and walkway to the back...about sprucing up the lighting...maybe having the servers wear something different..etc.

I really enjoy going here. Food is pretty good, basically shortened version of their menu at the other two locations. You serve yourself which works for me. One of my favorite things is being outside and next to the Hudson. Great view of the Tapanzee bridge as well.

This review is for ambience and accessibility only. I really wanted to try this restaurant because the lobster roll photographs look great but the only parking spaces are blocked by building materials. I'm sure the building materials are not paying customers. So this was a fail.

Very fun atmosphere, good drinks. The scene is casual only outdoors, so depending on weather and grab your own tables. The live music is enjoyable and there is ample parking. The restrooms were horrible room for improvement.

Great food decent service no ambience but it is right in the Hudson's some nice views You have to order in one spot and drinks in another a pay separately, definitely an annoyance. But the food was excellent and rare tuna sandwich that was rare as I had ordered it. The bun and toppings were a bit disappointing but the price was very reasonable The open seating worked out well for our large group

Food, service and view were great! It was well worth me coming back to Westchester to go to this restaurant.

The food is surprisingly adequate for a small wooden shack out behind the bar on the water. Barley on the Hudson is principally and foremost about the water-facing view. I had low expectations for a basic menu, but the lobster roll was surprisingly moist and flavorful, the popcorn shrimp was crisply fried and moist inside, and the fries were well seasoned. All the burgers and sliders were frozen pucks overcooked into oblivion, but what more could you really reasonably ask for. It's a bit expensive for the offering, but consider it the price of admission for a sunny day on the water.

Great place to grab drinks! Came here for the first time tonight after work with a few coworkers and really liked it. Amazing views, relaxed vibe, good food and friendly staff. I wasn't expecting it to be as busy as it was on a Wednesday night, but there were so many people. We were able to grab a few seats and ordered a few things to pick on - I really liked the lobster roll. The bartender (her name was Amanda I think?) was soooo nice and super quick with getting our drinks. Don't know how she was able to manage it all by herself, but she was on it! And the best part was the drinks were amazing too! Can't wait to come back again next week

Went in the evening and saw a rat run under the tables to the plentiful bags of trash that were piled behind the food ordering stand. Tried to ignore it as we were right on the water, however there were several rodents running in and out of the bushes by the bar and it was disgusting. Really disappointed as the view is so nice.

Bartenders-pleasant. Food/patio area, girls taking food orders-zero management and complete lack of situational awareness. A thought: all tables should have an umbrella. So many people were reluctant to stay because of no protection from sun. My party was lucky due to others leaving. If there is no table service (no problem), the least the employees should be doing is bussing food off tables, cleaning between patrons, and overall welcoming diners. Kitchen area was a hot mess and disorganized. Roaches were spotted when offered a beverage carrying tray. So bad, I laughed. Positive: guacamole, I believe, was freshly made. Chicken tenders were decent too.

Very dog friendly. Live music. Amazing frozen margaritas. Krissy the manager was extremely welcoming and made our experience great.

Cute bar on the water with view of the bridge. I would definitely come back. Bartender hustled on a super busy Wednesday night when there were easily 150 people here. Appetizers were yummy too!

Absolutely no signage on where to park outside the establishment. I got a $40 fine parking ticket shortly after stopping by to get a bite and drink for the very FIRST time. The manager on site did not care at all, turned his back on me, and was not a resolution-based person. Instead, he insisted there is signage only across the street, out of sight. I would not recommend this place to anybody. Overpriced underwhelming lobster roll. Rinky-dink establishment.

Great view from the outside and very chic on the inside. The service was great! The Mac and cheese was very good as was the veggie burger and sweet potato fries yet they could have used more seasoning. Definitely a place I would want to spend an afternoon .

Had an amazing time tn. Bartender was completely slammed without another employee in sight. She kept hustling until the rush finally died down hours later. Food drinks and service was great but they should've thrown a bar back or manager behind the bar to help.

First timer! I had a very good lunch here. I was a little confused by the system here for ordering, but quickly figured it out. You need to go to the bar to order your drinks. Then you proceed on to order your food at the outside cashier and get a buzzer. Then you find your seat outside and wait till your buzzer goes off. Ok, I would've preferred waiter service but Ok. We ordered fried clam strips with french fries and a lobster roll. The clam strips were excellent, really crispy with a delicious tart tartar sauce. Very well done. The lobster roll had a crispy buttery roll and was delicious, with lots of Claw meat. The french fries that accompanied the clam strips were very crispy and perfectly cooked. Really delicious. i'm not sure if dinner works this way, but it was a lot of back-and-forth. I sat by myself for quite some time waiting for my friend to grab the drinks at the bar. I felt like she was the waitress because she was! The outdoor area is on the water and very pretty. Now that I know what to expect, I will definitely sit at the bar first and bring my drink to the food area, Instead of going back-and-forth

Very casual! Eat outside by the water. Limited menu, I had fish tacos, taste great! You can get a beer at the food ordering counter, you have to go to the bar.

At first I was hesitant to order from a shack but since we were starving we went for it. We were pleasantly surprised. Lobster roll was big , tuna sandwich was even bigger and very tasty. Chicken fingers were small but good .

If you need a beautiful Hudson view in a nice quiet area ... this is the place to go. This is my second time at this location and I absolutely love it. The food and drinks are great and huge parking space. I ordered the lobster roll, popcorn shrimp with fries, margarita and aperol spritz. The margarita was alittle too sweet for me but overall all everything was bomb and the spritz was refreshing! Can't wait to go back.

Average basic food. All about the location. Good place for basic food and grog. Good weather good place.

My family ventured out for our first social distance dining experience and found it to be very well organized and a lovely time. Nothing beats a drink on the water and we were excited just to be out and see a real live sunset again. The only issue we had was that there were several patrons who couldn't read and had to be told to put on their masks even though it's clearly posted. We had 12 feet between our table and others (we were in the back patio area) and felt totally comfortable in this weird new world of dining out.

Love this place and come here a lot. Maybe because it is literally last couple days they are open this year, but they just charged me $11 for the most stale chips I have ever eaten. And when I told the bartender about it, he just mumbled something about it being in the system incorrectly. Here is to next season starting better than this year ended!

It was a nice Labor Day Monday at this venue with band Seeing Red. They played all of my favorites! Hamburger was really delicious made to order and the sunset along The River was just beautiful. It's a casual place though with no waitress service but I always seem to walk away liking it there.

Barley's is a perfectly good spot to grab a seat in the summer sun and take in the views of the Tappan Zee. Food and drink is really the price of admission for the views and the rays. They have a strong selection of beers on tap, including some of our favorite regional breweries like Captain Lawrence, Ithaca Beer, and Two Roads. They also have a limited selection of spirits, and while you're not going to get a cocktail, the bourbon and ginger will come with a generous pour. The food is of the beachcomber variety, and we quite enjoyed our popcorn shrimp and fries. The service also is quite good. When I started a tab at the bar, the bartender walked over with me to the kitchen (which is located on the patio) to make sure I could order from the same tab. Our order came out rapidly, and the staff brought it to our table. The staff was still learning the ropes on what was only the bar's second day open for the summer, but their kindness and sincerity was what mattered most. There is nothing especially fancy about Barley, which is just fine with us, but the river views do come at a premium. The basket of popcorn shrimp and fries was mostly potato, came out in a paper boat on a plastic tray, and clocked in at $18. Not Disneyland prices, but not a deal either. We also came in early on Friday when we were easily able to snag prime seating on the patio, but when we tried to come on a weekend last year it was so busy that we turned around and left. So choose your timing carefully. We love walking along the RiverWalk in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow, and we certainly plan on stopping in at Barley again to relax and enjoy a beer.

The fish and chips was very good. Nice big piece of fish. It was nice eating outside. The tacos were a little bit bland but good enough. Pretty view on the water.

Alright, so here's the deal. Yelp reviews are a joke because it gives angry consumers an opportunity to complain about a bad experience. Did this angry or upset guest ask to talk to a manager? Probably not. Most likely not. I have frequented this spot regularly when they are open. Sadly, the government is slow going right now and they have not opened yet for the summer. The atmosphere here is like NONE OTHER that you can experience on the Hudson River. At least from spots that I have tried. You have your own little spot of the Caribbean right here in your own back yard! Granted, the Boat Club that owns the property has done nothing to clean the docks that are rotting away on the North side of the restaurant property. This IS NOT the fault of this restaurant. But I will agree, it is disappointing. The restaurant has been open since 2017. It has had its share of chefs. Some good, some great, some that are no longer there for a reason. I have had my really good meals and my mediocre meals. Is this a 5 star michelin restaurant, no, not yet. The owners cannot use the physical building since it was destroyed from Hurricane Sandy and Hurricane Irene in 2012 and 2011. The owners would love to do more than they are able to. But politics have not allowed them to. What the have provided is a great environment and do their best to give you a great experience. IF YOU NEED TO BE SERVED HAND AND FOOT, this will not be the place for you. It's self serve. You have two stations. The beverage station and the food station. They have a system where you order, get a buzzer (and they might have a new system that sends you a text when your food is done this year, we shall see). Yes, the wait can be long sometimes, but just enjoy the company and the surrounding and the sounds. If you don't have a good time, let me know, and if you're too scared to talk to the manager on duty or seek an owner, I will do that for you. Barley on the Hudson has been my go to spot and a place of peace and plenty of good times since the summer of 2017! Depending on the day - this place is EASILY a **** rating and on its best days *****

Visited twice, a month apart, and the experience was the same so I'll assume this is the usual: Born and raised on the Gulf of Mexico this type of place exists all along any boat ride from Louisiana to the Florida bend and this one is VERY Alabama. The food is mediocre wholesale club stuff...that Guac is from a bucket on top of two handfuls of chips from a huge discount bag, the lobster certainly not fresh off the boat, etc....all at NYC pricing and this is NOT on a white sandy beach in 90 degree sunshine. This is, most importantly, NOT only waterfront place along the Hudson, btw. The soundtrack here is New Country which is so mentally diminished it's hard to call it music. We heard the genius that is "Shut up and Fish", "Pontoon" and "I'm a Beach Cowboy". Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama" came across as a much needed respite (sadly) but that's about when the two tables of brown people split. The vast majority of the crowd was middle-aged, the next segment senior so I guess the young staff and the two tables of young folks are who this place is catering to. I dunno, maybe grown NY adults love this scene but our crawl upwards to Bridgeview Tavern (Janis, Doors, Allman Bros. plus WAY better beers) then to Beekman Ale House (Waylon, Willie, Cash plus WAY better beers) and then to The Set Back Inn (silence but whatever plus WAY better beers) were a better trip (again) and worth the trade of being on top of the water. Worse, there was no toilet paper in the women's bathroom upon arrival. The bartender was told. Hour and half later on the way out, still no TP. Now THAT is VERY Alabama.

Opening for their 2nd summer, sister restaurant of The Barley House in Thornwood, Barley on the Hudson is a GREAT choice on the water in Westchester. Located just across from the Tarrytown train station and at the end of main st makes it super convenient after the commute or by car. Food menu consists of comfort food done really well- burgers, hot dogs, lobster roll (my favorite!), crab cakes, pulled pork are favorites. Drink menu includes 30 craft beers on tap! Add all that in with everything tasting better when you're looking out on an amazing view of the Hudson River and you have a summer favorite spot! HIGHLY recommended

Don't waste your time like I did, because they're CLOSED! The menu looked so good and this page says they're open. I'm seriously disappointed that the owners/managers couldn't take the time to update their pages.

This is relatively new place. It opened July 4th of this year in the location of the old Striped Bass. We were at WIBC & decided to give this place a try. We were a group of 7. Pretty much the same concept as WIBC, find a table, sit yourself, go order your food and get your drinks. This is all outdoors, there is no indoor seating. The menu has much bigger selection then WIBC plus 30 beers on tap. I ordered a Wicked Tuna sandwich. The interesting thing about Barley is they give you a pager to let you know when your order is ready vs. WIBC where you hang around wait for your number to be called. There were two separate orders, one for the young adults hamburger, hotdogs, mac & cheese, FF, the other order for adults, tuna, fried calamari, fish & chips & salad of some kind. In about 10 - 15 minutes after placing the first order the pager went off. OK got the guys settled with their meal. We, on the other hand waited and waited fro order number two. Finally after another 15 - 20 minute wait one of us got up to find out what was going on with our order. The order was ready & was out there on the open counter for god knows how long. Our pager did not work. By the time we got our food, everything was cold. Since it was late & I believe last call was called we just decided to finish our meal. If you're going to use technology, make sure it works. Not a very good first impression. They do accept CC whereas WIBC is cash only.

Self service no waiter or waitress service I found out after waiting about 10 minutes then I ordered by walking over to the counter. She asked for the amount to be paid but did not give me the correct change. I shrugged that off I then ordered a (Ithaca) beer that cost $8 I shrugged that off and sat down with the gizmo that tells you when your food is ready. I ordered fish tacos (see photo) they were good but a little small. The view is very nice. They lit tiki torches and that was cool but I didn't like the fumes. The nearby train station gets noisy

Instagram pics make this place look semi nice but it's like a frat house cookout joint. Lobster roll is very good but costs 1 human kidney. Everything else is greasy.

We stopped by this cute spot after walking along the riverfront. The chicken tenders here are the bomb - quite tender and lightly crisp. It's an outdoor spot that's partially covered, so we'll be back with a small group of friends the next time we're in the area.

Good location. The frozen marg I really liked (and I usually don't like regular margaritas) I wouldn't come here for the food though it's not terrible but not good enough to be worth the price.

"BARLEY & ME" .... So Barley on the Hudson is a really special waterfront bar in Tarrytown. Unlike the fancier pretentious spots in Westchester (of which there are plenty!), Barley has a much more casual vibe. There are no reservations, there's open seating for the tables, and there are TVs behind the bar playing the Yankees game. This is definitely going to become a nice place to grab a drink with a friend or grab something from the grill while watching sports or the sunset. The views are gorgeous, especially in the evening. There are over a dozen beers on tap available. We hear from the staff that their liquor license is pending but until then they can only serve beer. The menu is posted on the side of the kitchen and the grill is really great! We ordered the calamari, the chicken sandwich, the grilled tuna sandwich, and a Barley Burger. To apologize for the wait, our waitress brought over a complimentary plate of guac and chips. Honestly, we didn't feel there even was a delay as we were only halfway through our first round of beers while chatting and taking in the sunset from the pier. Still, that was a very nice touch from the wait staff. Food was great! Calamari was crisp, the sandwiches were made fresh to order and were well put together. By the end of the night, we noticed the dinner crowd had died down and about half the tables just had locals hanging out and finishing their drinks. Barley's has a great casual atmosphere, which is PERFECT for any time of day you feel like taking a mini-vacation!

The shrimp and avocado salad had 1 slice of avocado and 4 shrimp with maybe (the most) two stale chips and some corn and beans thrown on top... not good, not worth the $19

Disclaimer: 2 stars ONLY for the view. My friends and I came here just to grab drinks and apps by the waterfront. It's really beautiful around sunset and I would definitely recommend this place for that! We ordered the fish and chips and were so disappointed! There was only one piece of fish in the order and it was so soggy/bland. Definitely not a dish worth $20! Overall, nice location and has potential but our experience was not the best.

Casual spot for some delicious food and beautiful atmosphere!!! The lobster roll is small but good. The fish and chips only came with one piece of fish but it was delicious. Food is self serve (think ordering at the food stand then get to a table) ordering at the bar is separate from ordering food (2 different lines but they move fast). This is a nice casual date spot to watch the sunset together over cocktails and see the Tappan Zee bridge light up at night. Nice marina vibe in the summer. When you get there secure your table first then go order and enjoy!

The bar is the real appeal here, which is super friendly and very cool vibe. Dog friendly place, though the food lacks a lot to be desired. Tuna sandwich was dry, over cooked, and really on the wrong bread if one is to be picky. The service lacks also, with no attention to detail. Our order was missed, and when we spoke to the receptionist, it was largely overlooked. The restaurant needs to up their game and this place good really be a great place to hangout. Bar- keep up the good work, we will likely be back for a drink but will pass on the subpar food.

Came here for happy hour. Casual bar, outside was open only, no restaurant. The outside is decent, not too big but not cramped. The seating is first come first serve and the menu is typical bar food. There are no waiters/ waitresses, so you have to get your own food/ drinks. Good for quick drinks and a bite as well as spectacular views!!!

This place is right on the water and across the street from the train station. Their food is petty basic bar food but the best thing here is the seating near the water. You go up to a window and order. The bag is separate (right when you walk in) and has its own seating area too.

Location on the water is great, and a good place to hang out during the afternoon / evening. If you're going to charge $14 for a basic andouille sausage on a bun, it should at least come with fries or something. Beer selection was average. I've been to the Thornwood location many times and it's quite a bit better overall.

Love this place. It's almost a dream really...on the water with great views, ample outdoor seating, priced accessibly, and next the train station. I just wish the weather was always fabulous to enjoy this place all the time. Good beer selection, self service food (burgers $9, hot dogs $4). Will be back...often.

This place is awful. Calamari is mostly peppers which they don't tell you is in it. My mouth was on fire. Lobster and fish were tasteless. You couldn't pay me to comeback.

We went the other night everything was great! New manager knows how to make drinks better then the coked up frat boy! A little know how hose a long way behind the bar. Having issues with the local cops? Notice a number of them following cars out of your lot. Not a the welcome a new bar needs.

Had a nice night overlooking the Hudson and amazing view of Mario Cuomo Bridge. Just had an appetizer and a beer but Enjoyed that both. I'll will come back to try other items.
