Barleygarden Kitchen and Craft Bar - Alpharetta (Avalon)

I had been meaning to come up to barleygarden for a while i just kept getting ads about it on instagram, i was finally able to go and see what it was all about. I live in powder springs so the drive was long but it was all good i knew that from the start. My wife and i got there and it was pretty busy but were able to find a table outside. I ordered a hot dog (cant remember the name) and she got a chicken sandwich i think and they were both delicious. We got sprouts as appetizers and holy that portion was massive but boy were they delicious. Overall i thought the place was great but i wouldn't go again and thats only because of the drive i can go to Atlanta or closer to get something thats similar but i i lived closer i would definitely frequent this restaurant.

Hadn’t been in a while and was just passing by. Came in to a seat yourself sign so we sat outside away from everything and our server had come out to us in a minute. He had great beer suggestions when we told him what we like. The apps came out perfectly spaced with our food and there was no long wait. Huge shout out to David for making our experience pleasant given we had been traveling back from Montreal all day!!

My husband and I live in the area and we come here frequently and always have a great time! We love to try new beers so we can tag them on untapped and the staff is always great giving their recommendations. Tonight we came in for some pitchers to watch football and Chris and Cage were excellent! An amazing spot that is always a go to at Avalon!

My first time here visiting Barleys since staying at the Avalon. We sat at the bar and were greeted by the bartender. We asked, what are your recommendations for drinks and food as first timers here? He had no clue, wasn’t helpful and acted disinterested. So, we proceeded to look over the menu for drink options. It’s a craft beer bar so they had more beer options and no alcohol suggestions on the menu. I ordered a vodka and cranberry to keep my drink simple. My wife asked if they had a beer equivalent to Red Stripe. The bartender said no in a nice nasty way but also didn’t even try to help with any suggestions. Again acted uninterested. This guy was not a people person at all. Matter of fact there were 2 bartenders and both acted the same. We proceeded to order food or what we thought sounded good and again kept it simple. I ordered chicken sliders and my wife ordered wings. The wings were terrible and the chicken sliders were fried extremely hard. On several occasions there were people at the bar trying to order and before they could even get finished talking the bartender was already walking off. One gentleman and his wife came in and tried to order but they sat at a table. I guess they were not greeted so the gentleman tried to order pretzel bites at the bar. The bartender got nasty with him and said you’re at a table man, you have a waiter but still proceeds to take his order reluctantly. All I can say is that my experience wasn’t the best and the bartenders seem unhappy, uninterested and had no knowledge about their menu items. If they did they weren’t interested in the customer service aspect of the food industry. Just order and move on. We will never return but try your luck if you like craft beers 🤷🏽‍♀️

First, when we got in there, we waited 15 minutes Till someone And give us our menus and then the lady said hi to us and walked right past us. When the one of the staff members FINALLY came to my table he was ok but better than the other staff members.the man that served us was really fast with bringing out our drinks. The glass that our beverages were in was kinda dirty. When we asked the guy for more ranch and silverware he had an attitud.the bartender was flirting with girls two of the staff were on their phones and the lady in the second picture her customer service was awesome and she was so nice

Favorite place to grab a drink at Avalon - not a beer drinker, they have great wine options. Chris and Kevin are great bartenders.

Great Food, Great Beer, Great Time This place is perfect for a quick bite and a refreshing drink. The beer is delicious, and the food is equally tasty, making it a fantastic spot to relax and enjoy some great flavors. We had an amazing time and would definitely return!

Im staying at Avalon here as of late. And so far if I just want a beer while walking around I'll stop in and grab one. I've eaten some of the food and it's been very good, and so has the bartenders service. Tons of beer and alcohol choices. I may never try all of them 😅.

Happy Wednesday, Everyone. If you're looking for a quick bite head down to Barleygarden at the Avalon. The buffalo mac & cheese is on the menu for today and it is delicious. Everyone loves mac & cheese but when you add the buffalo chicken on top, it is a great companion and brings out so many flavors. I can honestly say this is one of my favorite dishes on the menu. So make sure you stop by for lunch or dinner. Don't miss out. The service is always amazing and you can always ask for Chris, he is an awesome bartender here at Barleygarden. The ambience is great. There is a patio and a rooftop deck if you want to sit outside. Barleygarden is my favorite places to have lunch or dinner, especially when there is a sports game on.

Solid, Solid food and beer. If you have never been you should go to here. So much beer to choose from. So much GREAT beer to choose from. Food is on point with the beverages. We used to go to the spot 2-3 times a month. We went last month and it reminded me how excellent it is. We need to make a point to go more often. See you there.

Great staff, great food, great time! Kevin and Chris took care of us on Thursday evening and it was a wonderful experience. Can't wait to come back!

If you like brussel sprouts, you've got to try the kung pao brussel sprouts here at Barley Garden! They are spicy, sweet, and crispy. It's a big portion, so share with friends! We also got the wings which were spicy and delicious. Our son got a kids burger with fries, which he enjoyed. The patio is pet friendly, which we appreciate. We brought our puppy and they gave him a bowl of water. It was peaceful and breezy. They also have a rooftop, but we didn't venture up there. The staff was pleasant, not too chatty, and quick to take our order.

Barleygarden Kitchen is a solid option with plenty of seating, even on a busy day, thanks to their bar, patio, and second-floor setup. The service left something to be desired, as we had to flag down the staff for help multiple times. As for the food, it was just okay--nothing particularly exciting. My husband enjoyed his dry-aged burger with Tillamook cheese, though, and they do have a nice selection of beer, including Hefeweizen, which was a highlight! Overall, it's a decent spot but could improve on service and food.

My husband and I were out shopping and decided to try Barley-garden for lunch. I ordered the Butchers bun and he ordered the vagabond. Mine was shaved ribeye with Swiss, arugula, onion straws, garlic sage aioli. When it arrived the onion straws were cold and not crispy. I quickly told the waiter and he said he would let the cook know. A few minutes later, he came back with a bunch of almost burnt fried onions. You could smell the char coming off the bowl. The little silver bowl was smoking, it was so hot. Needless to say, I ate the sandwich without them. I couldn't believe they brought those. The sandwich was really tasty, but it would have tasted better with the fried onion's. My husband said his sandwich was really good. It's the attention to details to me that make a great restaurant. This one has great potential.

I had the best experience at Barley Garden. Chris is my absolute favorite bartender. You need a good chat or a good beer reference he's your guy. I will be back often!

My husband selected Barleygarden for a lunch spot when we were running errands at the Avalon. He had seen their tap list on Untappd, and wanted to check it out. They have a pretty good selection of craft, beers, as well as a full bar. I saw a lot of people get their frozen margaritas, and they looked really good. Also, I found out that it's open container at the Avalon, which is cool. We shared a burger and fries, and we really liked both. The fries are very salty and crunchy. The staff that were working were really chill and friendly. They were playing great music, like it was from an early 2000s emo playlist. And it was a beautiful day, so their doors were all open. It's a solid spot, and we will definitely be back when we are in the area!

I've been to Barleygarden a few times. The first time was with my family for lunch. I had a burger. It was good. But the reason to to come barlergarden is because it's a beer bar. They've got 61 beers on tap and a few wines on tap as well. What's great is that you can get your Barleygarden beer to go and walk around Avalon with your beer in hand. Avalon is private property and they allow you to walk around with an open container of alcohol. So, depending upon what's going on, you will see people with different libations walking around the property simply enjoying a nice day or evening.

The food and service was really good. I loved the 'open' seating style and they are pet friendly which is what we were looking for.

I'll have to say that Barleygarden in Avalon(Alpharetta) is a great place to hang out, as they have awesome tasting food, tv's to watch the games, and a beer lovers' dream considering the 60+ beers the have on tap and additional options in the bottle. You can also dine outside on the patio or upstairs at the outside bar they have, which is my favorite place to eat at this location. This wasn't my 1st time at BG, but it was my 1st not so good experience. So, the beers I chose on this visit were very good and boosy and I usuallly try to get something different every time I go because they have so many options. They will let you sample any of the beers you may want to order before you actually order. And because some ABV's are higher than others, you may get a smaller pour than lower ABV beers. The Kung PAO Brussel sprouts were very good and spicy and a really nice portion for a side dish however, they didn't come out from the kitchen hot; just warm. It seemed like they sat in the window a little while before they actually got to my table. I also had the Hop City meatloaf, which is their House vegan meatloaf, tomato conserva, garlic mashed potatoes, arugula salad. This dish came out COLD. Again, the food was good when I tasted it but cold, which is why I could only give them 3 stars on this visit. I noticed that my waitress was holding long conversations with people at the bar which may be the reason why I didn't get my food from the kitchen when it was actually hot.

Stopped here for a casual lunch while shopping and was underwhelmed. Service was a little slow and inconsistent - for example, we were seated outside and after being greeted by our server and nearly ten minutes, I still had to go inside to find someone to ask for water for my table before we ordered. Also, our food was only okay and my salad was overwhelmed with cheese so I think I've personally had enough of an experience here.

Horrible bar service. It's hard to understand the rudeness of the bartenders vs the high quality of service from the surrounding restaurants. Can't comment on the food. Won't go back.

Got the ham and cheese lunch special with fries. It hit the spot! Very good. Beer selection was great also. Bar attendant was polite and made sure I was good to go. Perfect spot to grab a few drinks and some chow. Outdoor seating was available which I usually prefer.

We sat at the bar to eat, there were 2 bartenders for the 6 of us. One was very friendly and accommodating, the other was gruff and short. We ordered appetizers, meals and drinks. It was packed, so the drinks and food should have been excellent, but we thought it was pretty standard bar food.

Tasty push in a cool and casual environment---great location within Avalon. Good place to stop for a beverage or two while hitting the shops.

We Stopped by for a quick drink and app. The pretzel was basic, but the cheese was good. The kettle chips were a little too salty and just ok (nothing I'd probably order again). I'm not fond of beer, so I asked what fruity cocktails they have. I got the Bandersnatch. It wasn't fruity at all, but it was ok. They have an outdoor patio upstairs and seating outside downstairs. Lots of beer selections and excellent service. We would give them another drive (with different cocktail and food options)

I don't have a complaint so much for the beer because they have many on tap to choose from. Food is decent, what can you say about bar food. However, the bartenders are a bit full of themselves. Never been to a bar where they didn't try to change a tv to what a customer asked. Someone next to me asked to watch a playoff basketball game. Bartender said, "We're watching Braves tonight" then walked away. Seemed rude to me since it's May and baseball means nothing nothing now. Doesn't look like they care much as long as they want to watch what they want

Food was really lacking this time. It took a long time to get our food on a not so busy Sunday afternoon so I was expecting it to be fresh and hot, but it was not.. everything seemed like it had been sitting out awhile before it got to us. The high prices they want to charge does not match the poor food quality- especially since everything is "a la carte" and all sides are an extra charge?? I'm happy to pay more for a meal I enjoy, but with so many better options this place is not worth the gamble. It used to be good but something has changed and we won't be back..

It's the most mid experience I've ever had. If your looking for random bar food in Avalon, sure try it. But there's so many other good restaurants near by. The water glass wasnt clean, so it tastes like soda. When I did order soda it was really flat. My wife had chicken tenders that were flavorful, but the breading fell off like sand, was not crispy. Burger tasted like it was frozen and dry with no seasoning. Toppings were tasty, but I bearly had any because it immediately fell off my sandwich. Again if your just hungry and want to hang out outside, the patio, or rooftop bar, it's a good hang. Aside from that, don't order the food you'll be thoroughly disappointed. Waitress was nice I guess

Barleygarden we wanted to love you! We really did. But this was such a miss for us. Barleygarden is the cutest spot nestled right in the Avalon. Tons of outdoor seating for those perfect sunny days. Unfortunately when we visited we were underwhelmed with the food, service, and the drinks. The beer from the tap was fine, but my margarita was awful. Neon green from a bottled mix and it had no flavor. I am not normally a beer drinker so I always opt for an alternative if there is one available. Needless to say - stick with beer here or get a soda. The service was really slow and we felt really ignored. I know staff shortages which we could have excused. But she was also a bit rude and so uninterested in serving us. This did not make for a nice experience and we were out on a sunny afternoon to celebrate. This visit actually killed our mood. For the food we tried the following: Chicken Wings ($12) Butcher's Bun ($14) The Vagabond ($13) The sandwiches were both served on stale buns and were dry and lacked flavor. The wings were so soggy and came cold. They tasted of nothing besides grease. The photos here were always so great so I had really high hopes for the food. Perhaps it was an off day or maybe this is just one of those places where the food photographs better than it tastes. With so many amazing choices in the Avalon and surrounding area, I am not sure we will be back anytime soon. I imagine if we do return, it would be just for some beers on a nice day.

Cage and Chris are the best! Love coming here! Their service is amazing. They suggest the best beer!

Insanely good burgers and wings. We got the Charleston style burger (really good bacon onion jam) with a Skinny Minnie patty. Love the options to customize burgers here. I would probably skip on the pimento cheese next time, though. The wings were extra crispy and lemon pepper-y. Also: their honey mustard is bomb- appreciate the whole grain seeds in there. Would definitely come back for these burgers and eyeing the GOAT sandwich next!

If you're looking for casual dining in Avalon, this is your spot! Avalon doesn't seem to have strict mask mandates so nobody here wears masks but they do offer outdoor seating! i ordered the create your own burger with the BG smash burger patty + frisco (bacon, swiss, garlic aioli, sourdough bread) plus, i added avocado on mine! for my side i got the kimchi grits! burger was super delicious and the grits were just OK a little on the bland side but tasted better with some Tabasco.... also got a shareable plate of the loaded fries, pretty good appetizer! food was good and service was as well, i'd come back here for a quick meal!

Nice place to eat indoor/ outdoor, The food was delightful, very lively place. Food and drinks were awesome and they had a very large beer list to choose from. Anything from IPAs, Stouts, Lagers, and Sours. If you are a beer lover this is a place to check out. The restaurant has two bars, one downstairs (main bar) and one on their upstairs deck. Like I said earlier the food was very good, but it took us 15min to be seen by a server after I went up to the bar to ask if someone could take our order. Otherwise, cool place, good food, and great drinks. A bit understaffed (as all restaurants are right now) so be a bit patient if you aren't helped immediately. They don't have enough people for the upstairs bar except on weekends right now. I recommend this place and will be coming again when back in town! Visited this place the other night as we were in the area on a whim and it was just awesome. We were between this and another restaurant and I sure am glad we chose this one. The server was so kind, he immediately came over, gave us the spiel, let us try some beer prior to choosing and gave us the perfect amount of time to enjoy prior to ordering. When we ordered, we chose to split the salad and burger and they split everything out for us which was just above and beyond and the burger was SO DELICIOUS. It was juicy and had great flavor, one of the best I've had in a while. The beer was good with lots of variety, the atmosphere was calm yet vibrant and the servers were truly welcoming and friendly. Cant wait to come back!

Fast service. Good food. Great location. Beer selection is on point. Always a good experience. The french fries are literally the best! Their chicken tenders are delicious although slightly on the small side. Also don't sleep on the chicken tender sliders! They are excellent especially with their sauce! The brussel sprouts are ridiculous as well!! I've heard incredible things about their burgers but haven't tried them yet. Salads are also a good choice. Fresh and delicious. Try it you won't be disappointed!

Lo is the greatest bartender/server I've ever had serve me in Georgia!! I just moved here from California and she's the sweetest, smartest, kindest bartender I've had in a hot minute. She has a vast knowledge of spirits and beers, and she has a crazy great personality to boot! If you make the wise decision to come to Barley Garden, ask for Lo because she'll make your day/evening. #bestbartenderinavalon

I've had great meals and drinks here several times but this evening, the staff went above and beyond for us. We were originally told that the roof top would be open but unfortunately it wasn't due to staff shortage. The staff allowed us to sit up there as long as we fetched our drinks and food. NO WORRIES! We knew going into it that it was a busy, nice Saturday night so we were fine helping ourselves. We had a couple people in our group getting drinks and we ordered food through the app and picked it up. We were fortunate enough that they chained off the rooftop and we got a private venue! We had a fantastic time! We made sure to clean up after ourselves so the staff didn't need to come up and do it. The manager, Zack, was great and very nice! Thank you so much Barley Garden!

Our favorite spot at Avalon! They have a ton of beer options and they are always rotating so you can always try something new. There is an outdoor patio that is perfect for warm weather, or if you want to bring your dog. There is also a roof top bar upstairs. We love getting drinks here but we enjoy the food just as much. I somehow have been so excited to eat that I always forget to take a picture of the food. I love their burgers and they have the best fries. My husband has gotten the fried chicken sliders and the chicken was 10/10. The servers are always friendly and open for tips on beers or food items! Love Barleygarden!

This is one of my favorite places to eat at the Avalon- they are relatively affordable in comparison to the other places. They have several vegetarian entree options (salad, grilled cheese, and veggie burger) and lots of beer on tap starting from 7+ $. Good place to pop in for a drink and fries to snack on too! They have a rooftop area where you can hangout as well as lower level outdoor and indoor seating. Good vibes always

Pandemic wise, Barley didn't to that great, but considering it's Avalon and I see a lot of people go free on the whole mask thing it's something that needs to be considered when coming to any businesses here. It didn't help the fact that going inside I don't think you would have noticed that there was a pandemic going on. Seeing the bartender pulling down the mask when talking to patrons and not wearing the mask properly (mask not covering the nose), just rubbed me the wrong way. This was several weeks back (I'm slow on writing reviews!) I wanted to try out their burgers, after perusing their menu and several menus that had burgers that was close by. So that's what I got. I got their "Butcher's Bun" and for sides we ordered the fried pretzel and their hand cut fries. I wanted to have it loaded, but somehow it got lost in translation when I was ordering even though he was there listening to everything I was ordering. I ordered it take out, as it was pretty crowded in there and I didn't feel comfortable eating there. They had outdoor seating, but let's just say the social distance wasn't really a worry it seems like. So, did the food redeem everything? I wouldn't say so. The burger was okay, the pretzel had no flavor (it's a pretzel I didn't expect anything crazy) and well even dipped into their mustard sauce I wasn't a fan of it. Their fries weren't too bad, I just wished that it was loaded so I could've tried their chili! Overall, I would say this was a normal place for mediocre food. If you're here to drink, it's a different story. I did have a beer to walk around and drink, which was nice. Otherwise, I would probably skip and find better food options.

The food here is really a cut above the rest! The GOAT (greatest of all turkey) sandwich is off the charts good. Buttery turkey, crisp thick cut bacon on a brioche bun -- hard to beat! The Bougie Grilled cheese is also a winner here. Huge beer tap selection and friendly bar staff. Great spot!

This is a great place for a casual lunch or dinner after shopping at Avalon. They have rooftop and street level seating as well as a few tables inside. You can also walk up and get food or drinks to go. Awesome place to people watch while having your drinks / meal. Had several appetizers and can recommend the chicken little sliders or soft baked pretzel. The food was also very good. There is a huge beer menu that changes often. Our server was not very attentive, but did get everything correct for 6 of us except said the incorrect soup if the day, which was a disappointment to those that ordered it and got something else. My mushroom & Swiss whirlybird was good, but needed a condiment, but the server didn't check so I just ate it. I will go back and try something else

Checked this place out for a late lunch. Service was friendly but they didn't check on us during our meal. Food came out in good time and then they next brought our check to us and didn't ask how the food was. There's a a little covered outdoor seating area with heaters as well fyi. Tried the smash burgers $11+ and the butchers bun $14. For the butchers bun, the sauce was only in the middle of the burger so the edges were all dry and plainer until I got to the middle. The fried onions were also hard and hard to chew. The smash burgers are simple and the flavors were there but all on the salty side between two different smash burgers. We got the fries to share and unfortunately, they were over fried. I've never had over fried fries before so that was a little confusing. It gets very hard and chewy.

On the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving, we wanted to walk around Avalon and bring our pups. One of the few places open that allowed us to check those boxes. Located close to the Marriott so the parking garage on that end is ideal. We sat on the patio with the heaters turned on next to us. Hubby's salad was mostly croutons, fries were ok...not housemade as touted. My fish sandwich barely had any fish on it. Service was very friendly and responsive. Come for the beer , just eat before you arrive!

They have the best and juiciest smash burger. The servers were very attentive. Great space for you to enjoy the sites of Avalon.

We stopped here for the beer on tap and intriguing menu items. The sweet potato fries were awesome- such a lightly crisp outside with soft inside, and perfectly salted. We also got the loaded tot-chos (this was enough food by itself lol) which had melty cheese, ground beef (Taco Bell style), guac, sour cream, and pico. Also had the butchers bun and bougie grilled cheese. All thumbs up! The outdoor heated covered seating is nice but can get a bit loud with big groups. Enjoyed and IPA and brown ale on tap- there were a ton of choices, as expected, and they allow 4 oz pours for the indecisive

The food was solid and the service was ok. It wasn't busy yet we felt like we were waiting forever for refills, the bill and our food. Cool spot in one of our favorite areas of Alpharetta but didn't hit the mark for me completely.

My husband and I were excited to try Barleygarden after seeing so many raving reviews. We were sorely disappointed. The restaurant is conveniently located at the Avalon near the hotel. They have a nice outdoor seating area that we enjoyed. My husband ordered the margarita and was not a fan. We started with the pretzel appetizer. The pretzel had way too much salt; we had to scrape most of it off. The cheese sauce was... odd. It had the texture of runny mashed potatoes and was gloppy (best word I can think of to describe it). My husband ordered the fish and chips, a regular meal for him. He enjoyed the fries but said the fish was not great. The portion sizes were good. There were several areas in the batter that were lumpy like it wasn't fully cooked. I had a burger with roasted potatoes. The burger was tasty, but the potatoes were bland and tasteless apart from salt. The service left much to be desired. Our waiter was not very attentive. We did not get a single drink refill during our visit and had to wait over 10 minutes for our check after requesting it. Very disappointed in this experience.

This will be a day long remembered. Came here with the bestie on a Sunday night and were pleasantly surprised; the staff: awesome! Kevin and Jason (I'm so sorry if it's not Jason, I tried to commit your name to memory, but on a Sunday night my brain can only remember one name, it seems), awesome guys. Chill vibe, great music, the banter between them was great. the food: I ordered the brussels sprouts and sweet potato fries both were phenomenal, the Korean Fire sauce is the perfect amount of spice and a hint of sweet. The Brussel sprouts are served with a black garlic purée that is ridiculously good. My friend ordered the fish and chips and she loved all of it. the drinks: we both had a passion fruit mimosa kombucha that I'm still craving two days later. Huge portions, great staff, good vibes; you won't be disappointed.

Awesome place! 60 taps, kitchen with snacks and entrees and beer to go so you can stroll with a cup of suds. The food is decent, not incredible but good enough for an indoor/outdoor pub. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was the food - the wings were the smallest I've ever been served, and while the flavor was excellent, they were so salty I almost couldn't eat them (and I love salt). Dog friendly which is awesome. Not much of a view, but it's hard to complain when sitting in the open air with a beer. I will definitely be returning here.

The issue with their staff remains the same nearly 9 months later. Who would listen to me, right? I'm just a dumb customer blindly throwing money around. Came here at 3:30pm on July 4th for an afternoon beer. Sign on the door said "We're closing early at 4pm to celebrate the holiday". Went to the bar to order a beer and was told that they were closed. I asked if they would sell a beer to go, since their sign said 4pm, and he simply said "no". I feel like I keep kicking myself in the crotch by coming here. Why do I give them my money? I love the product, but the service has always been, and may always be...awful.

Great food and service. Prices are reasonable and the location is great! The loaded pork skins are huge and come to the table crackling.

Had a busy weekend at Avalon for a wedding so was only able to stop in for like an hour or so for one day, but the beer was awesome. Staff was great was cool trying some new types of beers I'd never had

If you care about Covid precautions, skip this place. In no way were parties socially distanced on a Friday evening. The area around the bar is too small for that. Also, except for one, all staff members were either wearing their mask incorrectly or blatantly removed them to have full conversations with customers. I'm glad that this was in Avalon so we were able to walk around with our drinks while waiting for our to-go order. If you don't care about Covid, then this would be a good place for beer. The food was average for bar food. The butcher burger was just fine, and the garlic aioli that comes with the fries didn't have garlic flavor. I do think that the soft pretzel suffered due to not being eaten immediately so I can't make a fair assessment on that. I wasn't a fan of the mustard sauce, but the cheese one was pretty decent. Conclusion: get a beer or two and walk around Avalon, responsibly of course.

Ignored by multiple servers when my husband and I had our service dog with us. Won't go back. Food dry and bland.

I'm moving and I'm going to miss this place. This was a great hang out spot after work. I always liked the food and the staff are always friendly. Edit* I forgot to say! I always asked for lemon pepper wings a hot sauce mixed. Little off menu but soooo good.
