"Steve Wilson and Laura Lee Brown of 21C Museum Hotels bought up Hermitage Farm, about 20 minutes outside of town, to prevent the land from being developed. The couple have kept all 683 acres open as a place to celebrate champion thoroughbreds, distinctive bourbon, and with Barn8 — the on-site restaurant set inside a gorgeously restored barn — fresh, farm-to-table Kentucky cuisine.  The seasonal menu is filled with dishes crafted from produce grown right on the farm and sourced from friends nearby. The eatery also highlights all things Kentucky on the drinks side, including a fully stocked bourbon bar and Southern-themed cocktails such as the vodka-based Bless Your Heart and the Hissy Fit made with tequila, lime, acacia honey syrup, grapefruit liqueur, pink Himalayan sea salt, and cinnamon bitters." - Lennie Omalza

What a wonderful place! The setting on a working thoroughbred farm was beautiful. Eat dinner, walk around, see the horses and gardens. They grow a lot of the veggies/herbs/etc. right there at the farm. Food prepared perfectly with a small but well crafted menu. Cocktail menu had some unique offerings. Photos are the cucumber appetizer (amazing), trout (this was only half the serving since we split), and homemade shrimp pasta (also half serving; also amazing). Oh and we sat in a horse stall for dinner!

Discovered Barn8 during the pandemic when I'd often stop to eat and buy extra to take home. Discovered the Art Walk then, too, and was eager this trip to test low-light capabilities of a new phone camera. And treat a friend to dinner. We told the hostess our Art Walk plans and she reserved a high top for our return. But she upgraded us to a delightful table in a "stall" with a kitchen view. Loved it. Waitress Lindsey had all the knowledge and paid us just the right amount of attention. Food was mouth-watering. Made a second meal from leftover glazed carrots and a nicely seasoned cauliflower side. It's a little pricey, but worth it to me to support local farmers. And don't miss the funky bathroom, a hallmark of Barn8's eccentric owner. Bok!

Wonderful setting. Dining room was set inside old stables. Classy and calm without being ostentatious. Menu consisted of the best of seasonal produce procured from the area. Well prepared and presented. Fresh and flavoursome. Highly recommend.

Great place for a culinary delight. Bourbon manager is very knowledgeable and polite. Make sure to visit the greenhouse & art walk. We've done carry out several times but the atmospheric experience is a must. A must see, feel, & smell kind of place.

Heading east on Highway 42 on an early Friday evening my wife and I made our way out to Hermitage Farm to check out Barn8 for our first visit. The one-lane ride along the long entrance driveway points directly towards the old farmhouse overseeing the scenic landscape on the approach. The directional signs easily guide visitors to Barn8 located to the right and down to a parking area. The old barn converted to a restaurant is very tastefully decorated with white painted ceilings and beams and a bourbon theme throughout including bourbon barrels stored in racks. Dining tables are lined up along the length of the gangway with smaller dining rooms off to the side in old stalls. Our table was situated in a room off to the side where it was a bit chilly on a cold winter's evening. Our server was very courteous and attentive and recommended that we start off with an appetizer of grilled carrots. They were surprisingly tasty and highly recommended. The menu is somewhat limited, but it features a vegetarian and gluten-free option. Being a lover of fish and looking to conserve on calories we both opted for the Red Ruby Trout. It is an impressive size fillet with skin-on and is complimented with Borracho Beans (picture kidney beans), a Mexican sauce - Guajillo Chile Rojo, Arugula, and Pickled Red Onions and fortunately for me with no cilantro. My wife, who enjoys fish like me, found the skin-on feature somewhat displeasing to the eye. Disappointingly, the fish was rather bland and absent of rich flavor. The combination of the beans and fish for me helped enrich the taste, but my wife was somewhat less impressed. Overall, the experience was a good one, and next time we will pick another selection on the menu. It's worth a trip out 42 for a dining excursion that is intended for more than just a tasty meal.

My wife and I absolutely love it here. From the restaurant, to the property tour, and the art walk it’s a wonderful experience. Food is always top notch, service is phenomenal, and the atmosphere is amazing.

A unique taste of the bluegrass. Seated back off the mainfare of east Louisville, KY, this little treat is positioned on a horse farm surrounded by quite, green and ever so slightly sloping. The food was locally grown and fed, the meal was delicious and the cocktails were creative and stout. As far as the seating is concerned you could take the traditional small or large table setup or opt for a horse stall of your own with a half-round table suitable for about 6 or 7. There is a small gift shop as you enter in with horse farm, burbon and other Kentucky themed items. The only thing they missed that night was not having an outdoor seeting area for enjoying that lovely sunsetting over the tiny pond out front. A magical night indeed. - Thank you friends,
