Barnacle Billy's

Got chance to dine-in before they are close for the season. Very beautiful place on the side of the gulf. Friendly staff and full of history. The manager told us if you were lucky you will meet the former president of the US here. We ordered lobster pie which is very similar to lazy lobster that I used to have it before and it was delicious. The streamed calm is a must. The lobster meat on lobster roll is not generous as I expected. Overall, great experience.

Even on a cool, drizzly October day, this spot was a wonderful dining experience for some Maine experience. The waves were crashing nearby, boats rocking on the water outside the window. Inside were comfortable tables and good service. The drinks were tasty, followed by super fresh salads and incredibly buttery, tender mussels. The chowder had loads of class and potatoes. Lobster rolls were packed with whole lumps of claw meat in a perfectly toasted bun, and the fried clams were lightly battered and full of flavor. There are many dining options in this little coastal town, but I'm glad we opted for this one. Highly recommend!

The view was amazing and so was the food. I ordered the baked stuffed lobster with baked potato, garden salad, scallops for appetizer, caramel cheesecake for dessert and a smashed blueberry lemonade vodka. Sooo delicious. My faves were the stuffed lobster and the cheesecake was the best I've ever had. It is very expensive but due to where its located in Ogunquit, Me its understandable . The area and views are upscale. I'd like to see an update inside, remove carpeting add hardwood, make it look better. 8/10

Just came back from lobstering, and wanted a big, hot meal, which is exactly what we got. I got the Buffalo chicken Mac and cheese, which was incredibly good. The clam chowder was also delicious, with just the right amount of clam. Excellent view, and I would definitely recommend this place.

***IGNORE THE LOW STAR REVIEWS*** This place is the place to go, don’t even hesitate. The vibe the entrance, the way to order, the view, the rum punches and the steamers/food. Why would you even think twice? Staff is fantastic and the nostalgia of ordering, then paying at another station, and they’ll announce your number over the PA speaker to pick up. The servers are fantastic - we had “Leah,” literally the best! Just sit back and enjoy your time! I even bought a hat and wore it mid way through our meal and basked in the full experience and ambiance of this place. Classic place and is a must-go every-time you’re in the neighborhood. You’re a fool to listen to the rest of the clowns complaining about parking, strollers and lights!!! 🦞🍹 ***BEST PLACE EVER***

I loved the 1.5 oz boiled lobster ( with 2 sides: baked potatoes and coleslaw) and the white wine & garlic sauced mussels. Very fresh. The complimentary rolls with salted butter was good too. Table with view of the sea and we were served by lovely waitress Jen.

We drove up from Boston to Barnacle Billy's on recommendation from a friend. We ordered the Lobster roll which comes cold with chips on the side (no fries offered but we which they did), clam chowder, and cheeseburger. We enjoyed the lobster roll and the clam chowder was perfect ratio of potato and clam. There was a line out the door for both the restaurant and the restroom. I would recommend outdoor seating because of the view, but it was jam packed while we were there. Definitely worth the drive.

My first time in Maine and this was the restaurant we chose to eat at. I must say that the view is absolutely wonderful if you can be seated out on the patio. The lobster roll was extremely good along with the whole lobster. It is a little bit expensive but it's worth it.

Have been coming to Barnacle Billy's for years and it holds up. The clam chowder is a must - one of the few places that still makes it themselves instead of selling the bland version from Sysco. You can see the butter on top of the soup and taste the seafood. There is a counter inside the main entrance that is best if you want to sit inside or on the porch looking at Perkins Cover. There is another counter that is better for to go or if you want to sit on the patio on the east side. I recommend that you go in and find a seat first to get a good table, then have someone go up to the counter to order. If you wait in line to order you may miss out on a great seat, especially if you want one overlooking the cove. Be aware there are several brick stairs down into the main dining area, so go carefully if your mobility is impaired. Classic ambiance with basic furniture and Maine themed decor. Bathrooms are small and right across from the main ordering counter. As they make money on cocktails, and the cocktail waitresses make tips from it as well, there is a constant stream of being asked if you want a drink. the table next to ours got asked if they wanted refills of theirs every 5 minutes, which is understandable. Water is available inside near the bar ordering window. If you ask nicely one of the waitresses will give you a lemon or lime slice if you want to add it to your water. Lobster roll, corn and clam chowder were all great and even though it was busy we didn't have to wait too long, plus we got our non-alcoholic drinks when we ordered. A classic place to get seafood in Ogunquit.

I'm shocked this place doesn't have better reviews. The lobster roll was absolutely delicious! You could tell the lobster meat was super fresh and had just the right flavor. My only complaint is I wish it came with fries instead of chips. I liked the chill vibes at Barnacle Billy's, but you could also go to the restaurant next door if you wanted the sit down experience. Despite the place being busy, my food was ready pretty quickly. I'd come back, especially for the location and views!

I just came here for the rum punch, which was super Duper good I highly recommend the rum punch! The service was super good and the place was super Duper cool as it was on the Seaport

Ok we are here with Mom with probably her last visit to Maine. We always came here on family vacations and this was one of our "go to" spots. So glad we came. Got the lobster rolls. I got the cold and sisters got it hot. 5 stars all the way. Mom got the fish and chips. Haddock nice portion and fish so white and flaky. I tasted a piece and again 5 stars all the way. Sweet potato fries so good. Nice seasoning and crunchy on the outside and juicy in the middle. Lastly our servicer, Charity, was so kind and efficient. Brought it home for us and thanks so much for another family memory we won't forget. Probably not the same owners but so glad you didn't change the quality of food or service. Inside nice and clean with great views. Highly recommend! Everything perfect!

An ICONIC place to visit while in Ogunquit Maine! Note that they have 2 locations of barnacle Billy. One as the OG and the other one is ECT. I'd describe the OG one as a quick order and go. You order at the counter and find an outdoor seat right here view of the pier. They offer more easy to eat meals like sandwiches...VS this one which is an actually sit down place and they have a wider selection of menus items including their fried seafood section. Same restaurant but slight difference. Locations and views are great. Service was attentive. They have a lot of seafood items most known for their lobster, lobster rolls, and fried clams. Prices are on the higher point but that what you get for wanting seafood. Make sure ask for extra tartar sauce packets. They do accept Apple Pay and restroom is located inside and upstairs. Seems like they can host large parties/events here.

There are two Barnacle Billy's, the regular one and then etc. They are right next to each other so those os the review of the etc. one. I liked that they had a veggie burger option here. The best part about this restaurant isn't the food though, it's the view. Dining inside you can see the water but the best seating (which was full when we went) is in the outside garden. Eve if you aren't lucky to Dine in the garden, you can walk around ir. It also overlooks the boats and the water..very picturesque. I.got theor signature rum punch, which was strong for me but I'm a lightweight. My mom got the lobster roll. She said she's had better, it didn't have much flavor it was just lobster meat on a bun with bi sauce/dressing. The veggie burger was alright. Our waitress was great.

Was a little skeptical based on the 3 star average on Yelp, but went inside a tried anyway. Sat at the window overlooking the boats. Waitress was extremely attentive and pleasant. My wife and I ordered the Hot Buttered Lobster Roll, excellent. Very cozy atmosphere and super fast, friendly service. I highly recommend.

Great waterside place to have a lobster roll or a steamed lobster. We did the whole steamed lobster for our last night in Maine. We have had many others while on our trip and this one didn't disappoint. Friendly service and beautiful surroundings. The steamed lobster comes with two sides and the claws have been pre-cracked to give you an jump on getting to the meat. Simply served with your sides - plastic bib, cracker, mini fork for the tight places. This is not a fancy restaurant. It simply serves you steamed lobster at your table or next door at a pickup window to eat on their patio.

Okay good service depending on timing / day. The views are stunning no matter the time of year, sitting inside or outside. Run punches are always delicious. Clam chowder is also a must.

Amazing lobster rolls, great fish chowder, nice local beer selection. The service was quick and friendly, and the vibe was casual with great views. Will definitely be back, hopefully when the weather is warmer so we can take advantage of the outdoor seating. After our boat ride to see the famous Nubble Lighthouse, we stopped at Barnacle Billy's for a cocktail and we did try their onion rings as suggested by our bartender, Claire. They were very good. This is a huge restaurant with a casual atmosophere.

Barnacle Billy's was our first stop on our trip to Ogunquit, ME, and it did not disappoint. This laid-back, casual spot offers excellent whole lobster and scenic views. As it operates in a "cafeteria style," there is little to comment on regarding the service. The only disappointment was the clam chowder, but this was easily outweighed by the many positives.

Good location with beautiful views. The main (no pun intended) issue with Ogunquit is finding parking because lots fill up during peak visit season. But if you come to get lunch, you can park. Tried the lobster mac and ordered an appetizer sized fried clam basket. Portion was large for an appetizer for the seafood basket so it was a good choice. Lobster mac was heavy and had good texture with the panko topping but was lacking salt and was not super generous on the lobster. The dish was okay. Both dishes were able to feed two well and the prices were fair for the seafood baskets. Staff was nice and the parking is valet/tip-based. We were able to enter the lot as part of the restaurant and were then able to explore the Marginal way and take our time without worrying about returning to metered parking.

We paid for parking at the lot, and walked around to see which resto's were open. We were looking for fried seafood. So we stopped by and stood by the take out window of this restaurant. The lady opened up the window and greeted us. We gave her our order, thinking it would be two baskets of whole belly clams. She gave us our total, and to clarify I asked if it came with French fries. I know it's sound like a minutiae, but I want to know what I'm getting. The lady then said that they don't do fried food there. So then we asked, "So no fried clams?". To where she replied no. So we left. Then we came back home to read reviews of people getting fried foods from there. At that time we were both hungry and were willing to splurge, but I'm glad we got more money out of our buck from another resto somewhere else.

The lobsters were amazing, must stop when you are in Ogunquit. We walked the marginal way and then stopped for lobster and drinks. Leah Cocktails was an awesome and fun waitress!! Will be back.

This restaurant is a must to attend the flavors will melt in your tongue, and the drinks will leave you satisfied. This place has Pepsi products so don't make the foolish decision of asking the waiter for a purple Fanta. The service was flawless with speed that cannot be topped. Tonight I attended the BOUGIE Barnicle Billy's instead of the OG one and it left me speechless. I ordered my 3rd chicken sandwich of the week and this one topped them all. The overall vibe of this place was comforting but almost caused me to fall asleep. Overall this place was very fun to experience and you need to visit ASAP

Wonderful food super service from the bar. The views were stunning but I will return on a less warm day to enjoy the deck. The chowder was tender and perfectly seasoned. The lobster roll was decadent and indulgent.

Cafeteria style dining, main selling point is location (for those visiting Perkins Cove, and after walking Marginal Way); pricey, foods only average. Clam chowder was probably best part of lunch, with lots of clams.

Food was decent, fried clam portion was small for the price. Clam chowder was very thin and not very flavorful, read previous reviews and expectations were higher. Our experience was overall ok but when we brought the piece of hair the was fried into our onion rings we expected a little more, they didn't offer to bring us a fresh order. Only an apology let me take that for you.

Excellent lobster rolls. Came here for lunch after visiting the Marginal Way. The food was delicious and the service very good.

Driving through Maine and needed a bite to fuel the way. Thank you Barnacle Billy's for saving the day. The view overlooking the inlet was gorgeous. And we weren't aware that there were even better views on the rooftop. Up there, you could even watch the ocean currents. There are two different locations next door to each other. One offering a full service experience, and the other providing a seat yourself, pick up atmosphere. We elected for the latter, and enjoyed a tasty lobster roll and easy going cheeseburger. Ice cream from their outdoor window made the perfect ending.

Really 3 1/2 stars: My expectations for a great large lobster roll were only partially met. Don't get me wrong - it was good, but not great. At $32 with a bag of Ruffles Potato Chips it was unremarkable. Perhaps the 1 1/4 whole lobster with butter might give your lobster loving habit more of a kick. The staff were very friendly, the ordering easy and the purchase of beer easy. The outside deck overlooking Perkins Cove is very picturesque and relaxing. My suggestion is make your own natural cut hot/warm potato chips and look at your lobster roll recipe and compare it against the competition in a blind taste test. Great cold beer served on the deck were very good.

The most disappointing lobster ever.. ordered 1.5 pound lobster.. the lobster inners were so small.. this lobster hasn't been fed for a long time.. My wife's $26 tuna salad was so sad.. iceberg lettuce and plain Jane canned tuna-a true wrip-off. Our first And last visit to this tourist trap. NOT worth the $$

Everything I expected from a place known for authentic Maine seafood. Started off lunch with a Bloody Mary, extra spicy, on the back porch under a pleasantly cool Maine sky. I was distracted while browsing the menu as the ships in the harbor demanded my attention, but after a few minutes of intermittently browsing I decided to go for the full New England experience and ordered a 2 lb lobster with a bowl of clam chowda to dampen my appetite while I waited. My wife chose the grilled cheese with a loaf of garlic bread to start and within minutes we were both taking our first bites. The chowda was rich and chunky; not the best I've had up here in the Northeast peak of the US, but definitely one to write about. Creamy, hot, and full of flavor, this bowl of Yankee delight really hit the spot. The wife loved the garlic bread as well, "Just so damn good!" she commented after every other bite, butter dripping down her fingers. Eventually we heard "Owrdah Fifty Fouwr" and I went to claim our tray. What I found waiting on me at the counter was one of the biggest lobsters my hillbilly eyes had ever seen. Let me tell ya, once you've experienced true Maine cuisine, Red Lobster ends up looking like a convenience store knockoff. Bright red and staring me dead in the eyes, this behemoth of a crustacean made my heart flutter. I started cracking the shell and the meat I pulled out looked like something from a movie. Dipped in butter and devoured hot, this meaty red ocean bug tasted as pure and clean as a baby's daydreams. Nothing else mattered at that moment and it's one I'll never forget. Worth mentioning, Billy's offers free valet parking for their diners. A tip isn't required, but any decent human would be called upon to do so. From the valet to the cashier to the server to the busboy, Barnacle Billy's was an overly pleasant experience: authentic, delicious, comfortable, and very memorable.

Nice place for a quick bite and drinks between lunch and dinner, but I didn't go for a meal due to the mediocre reviews I had seen on here. I also don't appreciate the giant expensive parking lot they own which makes it hard for patrons of other businesses to park in Perkins Cove

Lobster roll was a great disappointment. $30 for 4oz. Honestly being a cape codder, this roll overpriced for what you get, not worth the hype. I've gotten bigger lobster rolls at market basket. Chowder was good, lots of clam chunk. Steamers we're very good and not sandy.

Great fried food the best calamari I have ever had so tender ! The service could be a little better I would have gotten more to Drink but the server was amazingly nice maybe she was just busy

A classic that still delivers! I had a delicious lobster roll- fresh and a nice / not huge portion. The steamers were also very fresh. Consistently yummy!

The view from the dining room and location is the draw here! Nestled in Perkins Cove, this nugget is one of Ogunquit's gems. Good food and nice variety. Even if just for drinks on a rainy day, the view is worth it.

Food was bland and/or overcooked. With the choices in this resort town, pick another who knows what condiments are and how to cook seafood correctly. Overpriced and inferior to expectations.

One of my favorite seafood/lobster joints in Southern Maine. The lobster is amazing, being in Perkins Cove , home to many lobstermen, it's no wonder it was a favorite of President George and Barbara Bush. The atmosphere is no nonsense and at times especially in the summer, the service can be somewhat rushed. Known not only for delicious lobster but they make a stellar rum punch. Parking is sometimes rough at peak times, there is a lot across the road for patrons.

This past summer, this was our last stop for our last bite of lobster roll before leaving Maine. It was delicious and my friend really liked the dusting of paprika on top.  It was pricey as the other lobster rolls we have had, but it was a perfect, delicious ending to our Maine trip. ***In a rush? Skip to the end for my tips.*** We got it Maine style, which was the cold version with mayo. It came with a side of pickles and chips. You also get a nice view while you eat if you sit outside. We also had blueberry pie ice cream and it was amazing. The ice cream base was super creamy and had a unique richness to it. I wish I could have tried the other flavors. I suggest that you definitely try the ice cream here! Tips: -Luckily, they offer valet parking. Yay! -You order as soon as you walk in and then they will call your number, signaling you to come back to where you ordered to pick up your food. -From what I saw, there were 2 places to order, one inside and one outdoors (if you go to the left of the main entrance). -There were servers but they were only taking orders for alcoholic beverages. -There are plenty of seating, indoors and outdoors. Everyone was sitting outdoors and there was even outdoor seating on the roof. -If you are in the Ogunquit area, this place is worth coming to, but if you are looking to make a quick stop to eat, it's not a quick drive. Timewise, it wasn't very far from the highway, but it's a bit of a drive. We were in no rush, so we were glad to stop by for the food and the gorgeous views. Bathroom Tip: The ones I saw were right by the indoor ordering area.

Stopped by for a quick Rum Punch on outside deck. Eek I could not drink it, after 20 + years of enjoying their signature punch, I took one sip & eek. I politely asked for it to be remade. My waitress, was busy scratching, literally scratch tickets at a table with, what appeared to be a family member. She was not happy with my request. The new rum punch arrived & eek, it tasted rancid. I paid my tab & was about to leave & 4 middle age woman, 3 tables away were also sending their Rum Punches back. Mgr arrived, basically said it was us, & left in a huff. I paid the $14.00 for my two sips, but just have to say there is some type of glitch. So, so many other places to enjoy a beverage:)

What has happened to Barnacle Billy's? We have frequented Bernacle Billy's annually or more since the late 1970s and, early on, we even chatted with the man himself as he cleared our table. A stop in Ogunquit always meant a bowl of chowder at this steady place. Alas, we were there this past Friday, 10/18/24 and found the chowder a severe disappointment. Watery. Potatoes mushy. Served with a patina of paprika, perhaps to hide what was to be found. We will have to think long and hard before we return to what was a beloved place.

Best rum punches ever! Staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Super quick service and incredibly scenery. You must stop at Barnacle Billy's anytime you're in the area.

Been going to BB since 1979. Now with the price of lobster , due to overfishing and shipments to China. its over. The entire lobster excitement is long gone. These places will soon be gone. Lobster rolls at 32-35 dollars is a joke. Prime NY strip steak is cheaper. forget this Maine postcard view thing... its over. save your money. The USA fisheries need to cease Lobster fishing for two years, just like cod back years ago. Only way to save Tourism and domestic business. Wake up America we have been had.

Food was high priced and bery mediocre. Staff was friendly. The view was great and facility clean. But overall da disappointing experience as far as the food goes.

Clam chowder was below average, the rest of the food was ok. Nothing special except location.

Ah, Barnacle Billy's...an Ogunquit staple! We visited here years ago on our first trip to Ogunquit (I'm talking like 2014) and it's great to be back! Perhaps the best cold lobster roll I have ever had. This section of BB's is more fast casual. You seat yourselves inside or out, and order from either the outdoor window or inside counter. They call your number and you pick up your food. Simple! Very "New England seafood shack" vibe with a very limited menu of rolls (lobster, crab, tuna) chowder, and burgers. When you're seated, servers come around and can take your drink order from the bar. Dogs are also allowed outside on the patio! We all ordered lobster rolls and my mom got a bowl of clam chowder. She said it was phenomenal and has never had clam chowder with such big pieces of clam! Wish I got a picture of her spoonful. The lobster was incredibly fresh and SO TASTY. Seriously, this is definitely the best cold lobster roll I've tried thus far. I don't typically like cold lobster rolls and always opt for the hot "Connecticut style", but in Maine it's cold all the way. And it was good. The only downside is you get potato chips as a side. I was really craving fries that day, so definitely a bummer. But I think they're going for quick service and not doing the fryer thing. There is the more "fine dining" Barnacle Billy's next door that has all your fried seafood favorites and more at Barnacle Billy's etc.

Was visiting Maine and this restaurant was on our short list. Yeah, perhaps it used to be great, but not any more!! First, the order process is horrible. Apparently they segregate the bar from the restaurant or something. The gal at the register was rude and so confusing to order. I was paying and ended up having two tickets. There was no chance to tip when I charged, they had a cash tip jar on the counter but people were piling up behind me so I told her I would come by with the tip on my way out (which I did). She got all defensive like, "you don't have to tip" and gave me a bit of an attitude. Whatever. We ordered a lobster roll and steamed clams. Luckily we also ordered their garlic bread because that was really the best thing on our table. I had never had a lobster roll, but my sister who lives in Maine said it didn't look "right", something off about the color or sauce or something. It came with some Ruffles chips and sweet pickles. It was sprinkled with paprika (I think). I didn't think it was bad, but it was my first so who knows. I ate it and left the pickles behind. My sisters ate their clams but were a bit confused. Perhaps it is an East coast thing but what the heck are we supposed to do with the broth? One sister thought to pour it over the dry clams, which made the paper tray leak the broth all over the table. So, apparently not that. It came in a cup so it would have been awkward to dip, but a quick search of the Internet turned up nothing helpful. They had a tough time cutting the clams out of their shells, but seemed happy enough dipping them in the butter. The star of the show was the amazing garlic bread!! That and the atmosphere are the only reasons this review even has 2 stars. I will not return to this restaurant again, unless it is to get some of their garlic bread as an appetizer to going to another restaurant!! Sorry.

Food was decent, parking is atrocious Waitstaff was lovely. They need to clean the tables after one party leaves- sticky and filthy. The rum punch is mediocre. The clams were grimy and the oil needs to be changed/clean. Total tourist trap.

Awesome food, no fishery smells to the haddock. Great view, right on the water. Service was excellent, staff was very friendly and very attentive to their guest.

Good ambience, Luca was a good waiter, however, later that evening I suffered food poisoning.

It's been yrs since I was there & the lobster roll was skimpy on the lobster. I can't because that's all I had and it was quite a few years ago.
