Barnacles is one of those spots you end up at way longer than planned—and I’m not mad about it. It’s just steps from the beach, super casual and definitely has that divey local vibe… but the food is actually really good. Like, I love their pho, the teriyaki bowl and of course dive bar staples, chicken strips, tacos etc—and everything hits. But the real reason I keep coming back? The bartenders. Both Alexis’, Rachael, Alex, and of course Rainey—they always take care of you, heavy pours and great energy. It’s giving lowkey beach bar with hot bartender energy. You know the type. It’s not fancy, it’s not trying to be—it’s just a fun, chill spot with good food and even better drinks. I’ll definitely be back… probably in flip flops and ordering pho with a tequila soda. Don’t judge me.

Try the Golden Road Tropical IPA. Totally not an IPA but full of tropical fruit and spicy undertones. Great place to watch a local team lose a playoff NBA game

Visiting from out of town. This was the only place open late. Comfortable atmosphere. No riff-raff.

Google
Excellent locals spot with good bar food and beers. The fried zucchini sticks are always a good choice for appetizers. So are the jalapeno poppers. The cheesesteak or chicken sandwich are good meal options. Get a beer.

They have coors banquets. Finally some regular beer around. Had some tacos and they were awesome. Other people had some pretty good looking food. Not your typical bar food.

Google
Definitely a dive bar. lol, but in a good way. Loud, rowdy and they have a pool table that’s 5 bucks for unlimited play. It’s not a great one, but not the worst I’ve seen either. Drinks are somewhat expensive for the type of bar it is, but it’s Hermosa Beach, so I guess that’s to be expected. I would go back.

Google
Great Staff! They do it right. Spent a week out in Hermosa and visited three times. One was in the afternoon to pick up my hoodie I left the night before. I didn't have hope it would be there but, it was! They were nice enough to bag it up and put it away. All in all, it's a great place to hang out. My drinks were made right and I was attended to the whole night even when it got busy. -Willys' Friend

Yelp
The pros, it's a divey bar and that good old vibe that can only happen in a dive bar. You know sticky floors and non bused tables! All the makings of a DIVE! The cons, I waited for 10 minutes for a drink while I watched the bartender, one of two brunette women, literally ignore me, and take orders from the men around me. What happened to customer service? As someone who has bartended in the hustle and bustle of a dive, it's not a good look to watch bartenders picking and choosing who to serve. Just when I was about fed up... Interestingly enough, a kind older lady who also had to switch positions to try and get the other brunette bartenders attention, and came in after me was finally able to order drinks-- and she ordered a drink for me with her orders - she ordered about five cocktails. Ok cool. I witnessed them serving ONE woman, who had a large check! Then I see my friend also waiting, a woman of course, and waiting and waiting and waiting.... She had to get her husband to go order. And finally, I met a sweet couple sitting at the bar, her boyfriend had to ask the "bartenders" if we wanted anything because again - they were not about serving the women folk! And he said this bar is known for that.. WELL YOU DON'T SAY?! Now, here is the thing, how slow do you have to be to not serve women, when on average women actually tip better, but more importantly, you never know WHO you are serving and what the impact of that will be. Well folks here we are! If you are looking for a place that's small, with "bartenders" that pick and choose who to serve, questionable music choices, stanky ass restrooms... this is your spot! As for meeee, I'll never return unless my friends force me.

Yelp
$12 cocktails right off the boardwalk. Dog friendly outdoor patio. TV on the patio to watch sports and games. Friendly dive right at the end of the boardwalk

Yelp
Great atmosphere, great food, and the people are amazing. My first visit to Hermosa Beach, and came across this bar and stopped by for a drink and a bite. The executive owner, Taytay, greeting myself and the group, and gave us the greatest hospitality of the day.

Yelp
WOMEN PLEASE BEWARE! barnacles staff is not safe for women. on January 18th, I went to barnacles with a group of friends. they have two single use restrooms which required by law (AB 1732) are all gender restrooms. the women's restroom was occupied. so i went to the other single use restroom available which was a men's room. a member of the staff @ barnacles-- (he was hispanic and roughly around 5'5 in height) came into the restroom I was in while I was unbuttoning my pants and pulling them down. he pulled me out by the back of my jacket, and out of the restroom because I was using a men's restroom-- that isn't compliant with code signage, and is in fact gender neutral. this is illegal in california (AB 1782) which barnacles is NOT compliant with, and has staff members that will quite literally follow women like myself into a single use restroom.. that legally is GENDER NEUTRAL and physically pull you out and not allow you to use. I felt violated, I felt embarrassed. when he came in and pulled me out, he said "NO" "you cannot be in here" "you know that" "you are not allowed". every women should be aware of this danger when entering barnacles-- that they have staff that will not stop at anything and enter into restrooms that are in use, to physically enforce this illegal practice.

Yelp
Various daily food specials, divey bar food YUM metered parking, walking distance to beach. Small town friendly service. Fun local hangout.

Yelp
I went to Barnacles Bar and Grill today for lunch. I was intrigued to find a Chicago Dog on their menu. I was met at the bar by Courtney who was delightful and highly recommended the Chicago Dog and Fries. They were both fantastic!! I even ordered a 2nd dog! So good.

Yelp
Barnacles Bar & Grill is a lively spot known for its great seafood and vibrant atmosphere. The wings, fish and chips and clam chowder are must-tries. The bar offers a good selection of beers and cocktails. The outdoor seating area is perfect for enjoying a meal with a view. The friendly service and fun ambiance make it a great place for a casual meal or drinks with friends. fun fun fun

Yelp
I love my dive bars and this one is great. However the prices for a glass of wine is an absolute joke!! It's not good wine and they charge more then a concert, football game festival etc.... there are alot of wine drinkers in the South Bay and this is definitely not the place to come for that.

Yelp
Had Thanksgiving dinner there since we went there last year and it had been so good. This year was not so good due to the poor service. C.M. seems to be ok as a bartender but when it comes to waiting on customers her attitude and service is improper. Her friend that brought in the continually barking little dog was really annoying and loud. At least I know it can be good here, like anyplace it can vary a lot depending on who's working. Also I need to mention that the food was plentiful and pretty good.

Yelp
Dive Bar Review #2 - I've only been here twice. Once with a friend and we were inside pre-quarantine. I wasn't even aware of an outdoor patio. Crowded restaurants with an hour wait necessitated a drive to my neighboring Hermosa and my buddy and I ended up here. It fit our criteria, an outdoor patio and voila, one parking spot on the street. It's a sign. Sign of good times! There was literally one table for two and we snagged it. Ordered a few drinks, served in plastic cups but cheap! What more could I ask?! No food, no frills and no weirdos...at least we didn't encounter any that night. Great conversation and company. I'll be back but I prefer the patio versus sitting inside anyway.

Yelp
An awesome neighborhood joint in Hermosa Beach. Just a bit south of the pier, there is indoor and outdoor seating. It is basically a casual dive bar. But, expect a super friendly crowd and friendly server. We came for food and not booze, but we really enjoyed it. We had street tacos and fried zucchini, both of which were awesome. I think that they fresh batter the zucchini, which was delicious. They should do the same for their onion rings, rather than pouring them out of a bag. The onion rings were just meh. But, the street tacos were greasy and wonderful - absolutely delicious. I wouldn't drive out of my way, but it is a great place to grab an inexpensive bite (under $25 for 3 street tacos and 2 big fried side dishes) by the beach.

Yelp
This was my favorite bar to stop at when I went to Hermosa. Their patio is amazing, and it's always a fun time!

Yelp
One of the best places to hang out in Hermosa Beach. We were here 2 weeks ago. I love the fish tacos here and some of there hamburger sliders. Nice drink specials and margueritas. Great bartenders and customer service. I wish i could come here more often.

Yelp
Awesome chill local spot with reasonable prices and a great sound system on the jukebox! Shoutout to Alex for being a gem of a host.

Yelp
Went here on a Friday morning and met Courtney who was working at the bar. She was delightful. Very attentive, learned my name and provided exceptional customer service. This dive layout is great. Bathrooms were moderately gross. Nothing unacceptable by any means of how you'd expect a dive bar to look. Definitely enjoyed myself here talking with Courtney. This is definitely a Trump-Train bar. But nobody was rude to me or said anything out of pocket to me while I was here. I even asked the bartender (Courtney) if Rainey the manager (who is legendary on yelp and gmaps for being hostile, PA and Racist to Black and Brown people) was still employed here. She definitely is. I told Courtney about how bad this place stinks on yelp and online (in regards to the racism that radiates from the negative reviews here) she handled it with class and tact. The only reason why this place gets 3 stars is carried off of her great service. May or may not come back, but I'll definitely look to do so if she is here.

Yelp
This bar is awesome. I met Courtney the bartender yesterday. She's super cool. The patrons absolutely awesome. It's easy to find a pool player in this bar.

Yelp
Love this local bar. Been coming here for decades. Great location away from the hustle and bustle of the promenade. Saw a $5 Jalisco beer on the board and ordered it. Bartender told me the beer was $7.66. I pointed out the sign and she said that was for bottles. I looked at her 'like really' and she said she couldn't read my mind. Instead of me saying 'You don't have to read minds if you ask bottle or draft?' or 'how long have you worked as a bartender?' but instead, I giggled and paid $9 for the cheapest beer around with a dollar tip. I was going to get a hot dog but lost my appetite. She didn't give me coin change either which I could have used in the meter. Anyway, these jobs are tough, and I give much leeway for bad attitudes or noncaring vibes. And, I'm a local with an American Junkie hat and a Sharkeez shirt. I wonder how the tourists are treated.

Yelp
Great food and drinks, always a good crown and good music. Being a local to hermosa still my favorite locals bar not in the center of that madness of pier.

H H.

Yelp
Try the Hermosa Cheese Steak sandwich. Fantastic. Seriously how is the food in this place this good?

Alexis S.

Yelp
Went in to this local bar on Christmas Day. Family tradition. Not sure what's happened to it. Bartender (blonde) was so rude. Treated us as if we were crashing her family Xmas party. She obviously didn't want to be working and was only there to hang out with friends. Hopeful it was just a Christmas glitch. Bring back Danny! He was the life of this place!

Yelp
Great dive bar drinks are cheap service was awesome the food is very good great location as well.

Yelp
This is a Dive, in the best way possible. Bartenders and cooks are great! They definitely take care of you!

Misti T.

Yelp
Love this place. Chill beach bar vibe, drinks are on average $5 cheaper than on the pier just two blocks over. The bar food is great. Simple classic bar food. The fish tacos and the jalapeño poppers are my go to. Great walkable area. Drinks are great, really good cocktails. Everyone I've met there that bartenders or kitchen staff has been super friendly. Shout out to Alexis! She makes great margaritas!
google avatar

Rashonna T.

Yelp
Service is excellent! I stopped in early scouting for a fun night and Alexes Was great, friendly and informative Came back in for dinner with my husband Erin was tending the bar and all, we shared grilled wings and steamed artichoke with a bonus of live music! Great experience all around!

Yelp
I love Barnacles. The bar food is surprisingly good and the beer tasty cold! A Hermosa must.
google avatar

Erica E.

Yelp
Cool divey bar and restaurant! I order the Carne Asada fries and was delighted. The plate was definitely fulfilling and flavorful. Came on a Saturday and service was in-between due to the Football Game and 1 waitress... it worked out some how. DEFINITELY PET FRIENDLY! There is a patio for Dog-owners to bring there pet. Of course I had mine, and they mingled. Just keep in mind dogs will be dogs so some barking may occur.
google avatar

Yelp
Terrible service. Owner or manager confronted some guys that pulled up on motorcycles. Told them they were too loud. The guys STILL came inside but she refused to serve them. Don't understand her attitude. Just regular guys on beautiful bikes. They left. I paid for my drink and followed them.

Yelp
Barnacles Bar & Grill is a local's favorite, no doubt. It always seems to be poppin' here. Definitely a strong option if looking for drinks in Hermosa Beach outside of the pier. Barnacles is the definition of a beach dive bar, and the vibes cannot be denied. Been here a handful of times now and always seem to have a great time. My most recent visit was a couple weeks ago on a Saturday afternoon. The place was crowded as always and hosting a very lively crew. Not overly crowded though, we were able to score a decent sized table for our group. They have an outdoor patio, as well, if you're looking to enjoy the sunshine. Located a minute walk from the beach, definitely give this place a try next time you find yourself in Hermosa Beach. It won't blow you away, but it's a pretty cool establishment to stop in and grab some drinks at. They do serve food, so order yourself some tacos and enjoy the vibes! The ambiance is great.

Yelp
Came here twice. Pho & comedy dive.....yep. **THEY SERVE PHO HERE** First time I ordered it to go with a friend of mine that lives in Hermosa Beach. He swears their pho is good and authentic. When we got back to his house, I had a first bite of their pho and it was pretty good (considering non-Vietnamese people made it lol). It was not the most authentic pho I've tasted BUT not bad at all. It was about $8 and they do give you plenty of it with all the trimmings. Second we went to see a local comedian Briana Hansen http://www.brianahansen.com/, no cover (free free free). It was on a Thursday night and not crowded at all. We ordered chicken wings and fries....both pretty standard but good. I had my usual Blue Moon and a couple of other friends ordered Coronas. The crowd was very different from the typical weekend crowd. Nevertheless we had a good time. A good place for locals to hang out....esp if you live walking distance like my friend.

Yelp
One of the best bar food spots in South Bay... please, please, please bring back the mac n cheese!!! Danny and the Alexis's are my ppl

Liana S.

Yelp
Had the rudest most disrespectful bartender last night!! If he was having a bad day he should NOT be taking it out on customers. Even the cook that was there said that he is so rude and disrespectful. Had a horrible experience. He needs to GO. I would like to give 0 stars if I could.

Steve T.

Yelp
First time here. I rented a beach cruiser and stopped in here for lunch. The bartender/waitress was Courtney. She is very passionate about her occupation. Very engaging and friendly. She made me feel very welcome. She explained the family history of the restaurant and spoke about the menu. The food was better than expected and the restaurant had a great vibe. The bartender has an incredible memory and greeted nearly every guest by name. The bar music was on point. It's a 5 star "dive bar" but it was actually an above average joint in most areas of the US. I'll stop back for lunch every time I'm in town.
google avatar

Joe C.

Yelp
Great Bar Clearly the best bar in Hermosa Beach. Dive bar for sure. And that's what makes this place such a gem. The beers are good, the menu is good, the bartenders are nice - you really can't lose. The only negative is it can get crowded and seats are hard to come by. The hidden secret about Barnacles: Sunday mornings: $1 beers and amazing breakfast menu for a GREAT price. We love coming in on Sundays and watching the games while enjoying a cheap and delicious breakfast. Tip: 4 dollar 20oz PBR drafts Thanks
google avatar

Teresa R.

Yelp
Great local place. This place is old school Hermosa. Bartenders are super sweet, efficient and it's free pour. Score!! My husband and I shared the club sandwich. Yum yum delicious.

Megan T.

Yelp
IYKYK. Get the Adios drink. You know you have the right one of it is blue and tastes like pineapple cotton candy. Don't worry, in two sips you won't remember anything...
google avatar

Cat N.

Yelp
Sorry Barnacles, when you stop serving alcohol at 1:15 then I'm going to have to give you no stars. California requires that you stop serving at 2am, but most places stop serving at 1:30am for crowd control. 1:15am is not cool in my book and as much as I like the dive bar vibe I don't like it enough to come back. Btw I feel like I should say, I ordered one drink and second would have been nice. I wasn't intoxicated so I shouldn't be cut off. I'm going elsewhere for drinks and fun times with friends. Baiiiiii
google avatar

Mark P.

Yelp
Danny is one of the best bar managers we've ever seen. He kept a chaotic situation very organized. He made this bar fun and a place to visit again.
google avatar

Alex W.

Yelp
One of the most popular locals spots in Hermosa. However, for me it's a little too dark, crowded and expensive for a dive bar. But as I said, very popular amongst locals.
google avatar

Chris I.

Yelp
Total Dive Bar in Hermosa! Service- Friendly Food- Who would have thought the Chicken Piccata at a dive bar would be good but it was really good. I will be back for more.
google avatar

Joe S.

Yelp
This place ruined my perception of a cool Beach bar. The bar tender had a bad attitude, very rude, and seemed annoyed that we were there asking for food and drinks. They told us they were out of chicken and had to get the more expensive steak quesadilla. The food was good, but the drinks were flat. Not carbonated and tasted funny. I would never return to this place.

Kathy G.

Yelp
It's hard to give a review to a place where we didn't eat, or even order anything for that matter. But here it is. The bartender cheerfully invited us to sit anywhere, and we chose a table. Then she ignored us, while glancing in our direction every so often, in between serving and entertaining her friends at the bar. She chatted, looked at pictures on people's phones, petted a customer's cat who stood on the bar restrained by a leash. The people sitting at the table behind us, who had sat down before us, were getting the same treatment, and they didn't seem to mind being ignored. But after 15 minutes, when we still had not so much as gotten a menu, the bartender moved to the other end of the bar and took out her own phone to show her pics around, and we left. Bye bye.

Yelp
The best locals only dive bar!! Amazing food regardless of what you might think from the decor. Killer housemate chips, fried pickles, the shrimp enchiladas!

Yelp
I've got a soft spot for Barnacles since it is an easy walk from my house, although admittedly I don't get there often. The staff here has always been nice, attentive, and the girl bartenders are pretty. Whether you're on the patio of inside they always take good care of you, even when it gets busy. The food here is surprisingly good for a dive bar, especially since the 'kitchen' is so small. I've had the following: 1) Cheese burger - cooked to order and came out as ordered, medium rare. 2) Steak sandwich - a higher cut of meat than most places for the price. 3) Chili - perfect spice level to warm you up on a chilly (no pun) day when the fog rolls in. 4) Turkey club - large portion with a little of everything in each bite. 5) Fries - crispy and well salted. Let's be honest though, you come here for the beer and drinks and they have a great selection of beers on tap. I've never had a skunky beer here, which leads me to believe they do correct maintenance on the taps. Prices are good as well!
google avatar

Tawny V.

Yelp
The server was great but I'm very unimpressed by the cleanliness of the place. I really wanted to enjoy this place but it was happy hour and our drinks were crazy how do we order 5 drinks and pay $50+ compared to going down the pier/bar area and paying no more than $20? Also, it was kinda awkward that a manager would speak to an employee about drama in the kitchen in front of other customers. I mean I'm all for figuring stuff out but lower your voice. Ughh so sad maybe I'll give you guys another shot with the food.
google avatar

Peter F.

Yelp
Been thinking about trying this place a couple times. A friend works there (Tiffany). gave me a little push to come visit. Best decision I made in a long time. First time was on Easter. Had breakfast and was happy with the quality of the food. What makes it more satisfying is that I can order breakfast or dinner at anytime. The atmosphere is just what you would expect from a local beach bar friendly and kick back. The French dip sandwich is slamming. We'll this is now my Sunday breakfast spot. I'm telling ya the eggs are good here and I watched the cooks doing everything from scratch. Highly recommended.

Yelp
LOCAL FLAVOUR bar, interesting eclectic mix, not so much off the beaten path (as it down from multi million dollar homes) but just not your usual trendy chain bars. It does attract a few strangling tourists, but age range can be from 21 to much, much older. The wait staff is non existent and it is tough to track down a server or get the bartenders attention oftentimes. The food IS pretty good for a dive bar, I must say. I only had the STEAMED ARTICHOKE, but it was served up nicely and came with a sauce. I was meeting a gf, otherwise, this is not the type of place I generally frequent, but it fun once in a while to live on the edge....sort of! lol
google avatar

Connie M.

Yelp
Barnacles is a great place for a beer. Play pool or relax with friends. Try some deep fried pickles. Bar welcomes you , any time of The day.
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
Try the food, everything is great (steak, soups, sandwiches) Don't be shy, put quarter on the pool table and get yourself in that game! Drink Pabst, it's the cheapest in town. Bloody Mary's good. Jukebox is good. Divey and old gives the place character. If the pier is packed try Barnacles, it's usually not. Don't feel like you have to 'dress up' like some other bars in Hermosa. (flip flops OK) Parking totally sucks but what do you expect for Hermosa?
