Barnes & Noble Looks to In-Store Restaurants for a Boost | Eater

"A long-established bookseller that opened its first store in New York City in the late 19th century has faced years of declining sales and intense competition from online retailers, reporting consecutive quarters of falling revenue; the company is experimenting with in-store full-service Kitchens and a fast-casual variant as part of a strategy to drive experiential retail and lure customers back from convenience-focused competitors and booming indie bookstores, but analysts question whether the restaurant offerings create a compelling or uniquely synergistic reason for shoppers to choose in-person visits over online ordering." - Whitney Filloon

I ordered a matcha, but they initially got my order wrong and gave me a cappuccino instead. After a long wait and having to ask about my drink again, they finally prepared the matcha—but it wasn’t mixed at all, making it impossible to drink. When I requested a new one, the barista was far from polite and simply told me, “You can mix it yourself! This place is terrible, and I wouldn’t recommend ordering anything from here.

The matcha tasted like the word green…in the worst way possible. this… ain’t right. fam the cashiers were spooky. i… am scared. do not come here. but also on the real note, the matcha wasn’t made right & there was bits of it as you can see…the ring of fire and despair…also it was 6.60 for a small matcha which is fine but it’s not even…good…stay safe barbies💔

Always come here before work service is usually great but recently they have been slacking off with breakfast sandwiches always forgetting/not hearing that I ordered one and would be waiting 8-15min even though its not busy. And they served it cold

Not only do the baristas not know how to make basic lattes (my matcha came back clumpy) but they also serve it with an attitude. Much better cafes elsewhere.

I just went to Starbucks in it. Did not find the shop very interesting any more

Ideal to sit and read that great book you've just bought

It is great to have Barnes & Noble in the City. I am a HUGE AND DEVOTED BOOK STORE FAN. However, during this visit the experience and service wasn't great. The server didn't look my face, she forgot to ask if I was a BN Member, and she didn't say "thank you" for the cash tip I put in the jar right in front of her. Disappointing! I also didn't like how you have to purchase first, to use the rest room. I saw a little girl almost wet her pants as poor Mom pleaded with the Mgr to use the rest room before buying the books in her hand. I know rules are important to keep rest rooms clean and safe in big cities but.... there has to be a better way.:(

Its a typical NYC Barnes and Noble with a Starbucks Cafe on the second floor. To sit at a table or counter you must purchase something from the cafe. These are all cookie cutter formatted stores nothing special , although I noticed a Rissolli Art book section, though hardly compares to that lost gem now missing from our midst. Didn't warrant photos.
