Cambridge’s Naco Taco Parks a Truck on Newbury Street | Eater Boston

"A national bookseller has been trying an in-store restaurant strategy as a last-ditch business move, outfitting those dining spaces with decorative fake books as part of the concept." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

Very nice and organized location. Coffee at the stand tasted on the stale side but the staff was friendly and attentive. Nice children's area. Plenty of Harry Potter and additional items that make for great gifts any time of year. Well kept bathrooms. Very helpful Customer Service counter! Love that Barnes & Noble has kept true to who they are over the years!

Sierra H.

Google
The staff are so kind and patient. The store is organized really well. I love the board games as well as the selection near the cashiers with lots of great gift items. I also liked seeing an author there selling kids' books and offering to sign! Edit: one of the staff members recommended Water Moon to me on 11/1/25 and it's truly That Book so shoutout 2 you!! I didn't catch your name but you ARE a legend. W book, the most acceptable het romance I've read. I'm almost finished with it 🤙

During our visit to Barnes & Noble, we found that the specific book we needed wasn’t in stock. The staff, however, were eager and willing to help. They offered several options to obtain the book, which we appreciated. If you’re in a similar situation, you can expect friendly service and proactive assistance from the team.

Lady in Info Booth (pink hair) was awesome. Very helpful and not judgy despite my rookie questions. Very patient & kind

Google
Still a hopping business and it warms my heart to see all ages coming into a book store!! Real books, hardcover, paperbacks, mysteries and the latest Michael Connelly (the reason behind our visit😉). Delightfully organized as per your reading taste, B & N remains the top in our book 📖 😀

Google
Great book collection, and always some good sales on some good reads! 📚☕ You can even grab some coffee and preview a book if you like. Such a contemporary place with an awesome chill vibe! ✨ #books #coffee #sales #vibe #reading

I truly hope that this Barnes & Noble never goes anywhere or out of business. I’ve never walked in here and had a bad experience let alone ever come across an employee that wasn’t an exceptionally delightful person to talk to and get help from. I went in today to buy Harlan Coben’s new book and ended up buying a Topps Series 1 Baseball egg as well.

There's nothing like walking into a bookstore and smelling all the new books and seeing the thousands of books on display. Please support book stores since so many of them have closed over the past few decades. Barnes & Nobles has been around for quite a long time. Many of it's large competitors are gone. The store has a wonderful, huge children's area and so many neat little nooks and crannies that fulfill different types of genres. They have a tiny coffee shop inside. They still have bargained discounted books. It's easy to spend a few hours here. I took my children recently as we had not been in quite a few years and they enjoyed walking around looking at all the different books, toys, gifts, stuffed animals, LEGO sets, magazines, etc.

Yelp
It sure felt GREAT to walk into a book store as I have been doing the audiobooks thing for the past two years. This bookstore is a good size, very well organized and employees were very friendly. Prices in the discounted books section and a result, I purchased books and magazines to do what I enjoy doing and that is to read anything I can get my hands on.

Yelp
Visited this place while on vacation and I was extremely happy. It was clean with a cozy inviting atmosphere. My husband and daughter spent a good amount of time browsing and they ended up walking out with several books because of their great pricing. Overall it was a great relaxing afternoon that allowed my daughter to explore in one of her favorite places.

Yelp
This is the smaller of a lot of barns and noble I've been to but it just makes the environment more cozy haha. The ceiling is not high but it actually makes good lighting for when you wanna read a few pages. Staff is friendly and help whenever I need assistance or help. Everything is clean and well organized. The selection is pretty good. All the best sellers and lots of genres. I see a vast variety of books in different sections but personally I only go to a few corners. For the genres I like, I think they have a good selection of everything. They have more than books. At the front and in the back, there are cute items that you can buy and it would make good gifts. They also have lots of pop culture things, such as Harry Potter merch, Sanrio things, or funkopops. When I'm in the area I love wandering in and look at things and perhaps get a book or two. The prices are gonna be a little bit more than online stores. But the experience of picking out a book makes the book even more enjoyable.

Yelp
If someone were to ask me to name an activity that personifies relaxation I would reply "reading." Since childhood, I have always found peace (before I really knew what it was) in reading. I can vividly remember the feeling of pure excitement when the Scholastic book fair when come to my school and I would have the opportunity to purchase literature by some of my favorite authors (i.e., R.L. Stine, Carolyn Keene). As an adult, I find similar joy in browsing the latest offerings at this Barnes & Noble location. I'm not aware of the screening process for Barnes and Noble employees, but I can say that it definitely works! I'm generally always warmly greeted by an employee who is eager to help me find a book off of my Goodreads list (I highly recommend this app for avid readers). Not only do they help me locate a book(s) of my desire, they also suggest book of similar themes. Therefore, I often end up purchasing more books than intended (now I know how Target shoppers feel). Whether you're on the hunt for a specific book or simply want to get away from the bustle of the nearby Arden Mall, I recommend visiting this Barnes and Noble location!

Yelp
Great local bookstore. Had frequented this Barnes and Nobles a number of times over the years, for everything from personal reads for myself to books signings, to personal reads for my children. Large selection of books in a number of adult, teen and children genres. Most recently I was at B&A for a new book for my son. Thought he might be interested in the Science Fiction novels so we made our way over there first, but he said he was more interested in World History and War. So we looked in that area and he found some books of interest but they were some pretty big reads for his age. And I wanted something more easily graspable for him so I asked one of the employees, what section might be best based on his interest. She told me the "Teen Nonfiction" was probably his best bet, but it wasn't a big selection of books. We ended up going through that section and we ended up finding a book, that I thought he'd be interested in, and would be an good read.

Yelp
Friendly, professional, and quick cashiers. Excellent register jockeys. Additionally the Starbucks barista was fantastic. Great positive friendly energy. 06/26/2025 @ 1543

Yelp
A bit shocked over the few negatives I've read here. The selection is vast, good service. Good prices. Friendly people. I'd recommend coming here. I like the coffee they have here. They had a good selection of cooking books I was looking for.

Yelp
This is by far my wife's happy place. They have the best Romantasy section possible, amazing buy one get one 1/2 off deals, and are super knowledgeable. Staff is friendly and eager to help.
google avatar

Yelp
Since moving to small town Northern CA, this has become my "local" Barnes, albeit 25 ish minutes away. I really love the selection they offer, they always have tons of indie published romance and fantasy books available which is really nice! The employees here are always so kind and helpful, on my most recent visit two separate individuals recommended Swordheart so it was obviously coming home with me. Not only are they friendly but obviously very book passionate and happy to share recommendations or help find a specific title!

Valerie M.

Yelp
My daughter and I went in today. I got a coffee and my daughter had a cake pop. Our service was AMAZING!!! Her name is Sophie and we are both in love. The kindest soul I've interacted with who went above and beyond for my daughter. This person is a gem. Thank you Sophie for making this experience better than ever.

Yelp
Walking into a Barnes & Noble always gives me early 2000s (pre-Amazon) book lovers' nostalgia. They are getting harder and harder to find nowadays. This location is in the Arden mall complex. The employees are friendly and helpful!
google avatar

Erich L.

Yelp
Nice large bookstore near the mall. They have a nice selection and it's organized with good service. They have a coffee stand that's different than most Barnes and noble cafes with nowhere to sit.
google avatar

Ji V.

Yelp
The organization of everything is neat. From department section of books and toys and all. Worth for money is alright. Staffs were helpful.

Yelp
Very busy place and very interactive cashier on Saturday night. Easy location easy to park next to big Mall. It's huge inside. Restroom was big butt the napkin machine motion sensor was not working. It was relatively clean but not as you expected could be because of Saturday night fever. They sell Godiva chocolate. As I'm writing this review I kept seeing young people walking in or parents bringing their children. Makes me feel good about this place.

C D.

Yelp
So this bookstore is top notch-huge variety of books, puzzles, toys, seasonal items displayed in a way that's so easy to stroll through! Nicely organized sections and special displays too. There's something for everyone here, and it's a relaxing vibe to take your time -as all bookstores should be - really enjoyed our visit! We found too many things to buy and had to edit a bit. Customer service is great here too, plus they have well kept bathrooms. We drive out of our way sometimes to come here!!
google avatar

Yelp
Definitely one of the better barnes and nobles I've been to, specifically for their classics section. I love the fact that it's part of the mall so you can make a fun day trip out of it if you're in the area. I'm forgetting If there's a Starbucks inside this one since I spent so much time in the classics haha but if not there's always onit coffee nearby if you need some caffeine while browsing!

Derrick G.

Yelp
Tons of options, I can spend all day here browsing and still have more to see. Great customer service too!
google avatar

Corey N.

Yelp
Love a bookstore always but really appreciate that this place is has not given all its book space to games and puzzles. There IS some so it is a well rounded bookstore overall. But I always find a ton of great kids books for my grandkids as well as for myself. New releases are always in stock. There is a small Starbucks inside. Not sure what things are normally like (non-covid times) but there was no inside seating. I haven't tried ordering here as there are other similar places within a two to three block range, but that may add to why the Starbucks within is not a large one. I'll check back as things open up even more. This location is within the Arden Mall. It's super convenient with outdoor (parking side) and indoor (into the mall itself) entrances. As a result, one can do more shopping as well as the books here and the parking is extensive.

The amazing world of J.

Yelp
I love the service and the different selection of books likes mangas and comics and then the value is such a great steal

Yelp
It is a blessing nowadays if you still can smell, touch, browse and purchase the physical books from a complete bookstore. I love this feeling and always love to visit bookstore. The time seems to freeze inside and it calms your mind when you are surrounded by books. The staffers are knowledgeable and helpful. Seeing so many books brings me back to my college time when I used to being a stack of books or magazines and have a cup of Starbucks to spend the whole Saturday afternoon here just to read or browse through the books and bring home the best ones. Books stores are part of my life and memories. I am glad to see this one standing still and continue to bring warmth to people's hearts.
google avatar

Yelp
Plenty of parking spaces in the shared lot for the mall, though you may need to drive around to find a spot on weekends. Very busy in the afternoon on a weekday, due to Christmas approaching fast. Super long lines at both checkout areas of the store. Normally, it wouldn't be so crowded on a weekday. Clean interior. The cashier that served us wore a mask. Didn't see any hand sanitizer around. The customer service was okay. It would have been helpful to be given a bag to carry our purchases, but they might have run out since the cashier didn't ask at all. For any otaku out there, this location carries anime merchandise from mainstream franchises.

Michael W.

Yelp
Well if u take something back there u and get an in store credit card check it I took my kids books back to that store and get a in store credit only to find out the card is no good they canceled the payment and when calling the store and asking them to fix the issue they ask me a shit ton of questions and tell me they will email me in two days you guys need to really check out your return policy cuz your making it to where I wanna boycott your wsses all together
google avatar

Trevor G.

Yelp
I have been coming to this book store for well over 15 years. My mother used to bring me in here and let me run around their vast selection. They have always carried quality reads and critically acclaimed works. As a child, it was always a safe bet picking up a book and getting hooked; what parent will say no to getting their son a $12 book? I'll wait. Please, stop by and give them a look when you can. They offer much more than just books and every trip in there likely has something for everyone. Just be sure to not run around and scream because people are trying to enjoy their reading and also close decisions between two killer options can be difficult. Be sure to check out their board and card game selections too. Good times!!

Yelp
I thought this Barnes and Noble was quite large compared to the one I'm used to in Natomas. It felt like a bookstore one could get lost in. The best kinds! The back area had shelves and shelves of puzzles and games. I thought it was a large selection for a bookstore! I was very disappointed because there is no sit down are for the cafe. They have a Starbucks, so I just assumed there would be tables too. I specifically went to do work there. Great bookstore! But not a great cafe area.

Mallory C.

Yelp
Shanna literally made the midnight release happen! She was very attentive to every little detail. I can't image that dealing with a bunch of fandom craze 20 something year olds is easy. She was interactive and insanely helpful the whole time. She allowed us to have the night out teenage hearts would have loved. Brought us back to our childhood with organizing all the bracelet and bookmark stations(thank you to the people that planned and worked those stations). I want to say thank you Barnes and Noble ARDEN! I drove from up the hill because they took one for the team to live out our little fantasy fandom. So worth staying up til 1am. Give Shanna a vacation after all her hard work last night
google avatar

Scott H.

Yelp
I don't get the company policy to require the cashier at the front door to yell welcome in to everyone that walks in the door and greet everyone that walks out the door. It's just not a service that adds the quality of the shopping experience. Not the best Barnes & Noble. To start with their coffee shop is barely a coffee shop. There's no seating. Then there are the mysteriously locked doors. the entrance from the little mall that they're connected to is locked with a sign saying due to covid-19 you have to walk all the way around the store to the front door.

Yelp
I love BN. Hope it will not go away like Borders. Get your books here, and not on Amazon.
google avatar

Taylor M.

Yelp
I've been coming to this book store for years, but less often in recent times. They can be pricey, even with sales. Amazon is much cheaper, but nothing beats coming into a book store and physically finding that book. The American Girl books used to be all on one place and have the newer books. Now the books are a bit scattered around the children's area and only have the condensed versions. I was able to find a couple books on my list, including one book that I did not think they would have. The staff is hit or miss. They are either really helpful or don't have any answers. For one book I couldn't find, the staff member was really helpful in giving me ideas for where to find the book online. (It wasn't available on the website or Amazon.)
google avatar

Melly S.

Yelp
Service here is amazing especially in the mornings! I had some special requests and they worked hard to answer my questions and figure it all out that way the premium membership was all worth it! The front desk this morning was so helpful and knowledgeable and kind on top of that. They're happy to help they do not begrudge customers like some places. They actually enjoy life at B&N thank you for making my day special I've had a very hard week this week and you made my day!
google avatar

Hattie S.

Yelp
It's been awhile since I've visited this location. It's nice enough and I like the layout but they've got a portion of the entrance & one of their checkouts closed. It looks like it's going out of business. Stuff stacked everywhere and signs piled up. Staff is nice enough but the Roseville location is much better.
google avatar

Wanda G.

Yelp
This is my least favorite BN location. No Starbucks and no seats to hang out in. The people who work at this one are very cranky and not helpful at all. Plus it always seems really dirty in there - like a train station or something. I come here when I need my magazine fix or a quick gift. I found a book on the shelf and there was NO price on it anywhere. I checked all the usual places, the jacket, the back, the cover page.... It was a big book so I knew it would be a lot - not something I could just 'wing it' at the register. I went to the information desk and the man working there was SO RUDE. He gave me this total condescending look like - 'you're so dumb you can't even find the price'. Well, guess what? He couldn't find it either and then he couldn't find it on the computer either???!!!! What the heck? I left without buying anything. He never could figure out what the cost was. If you're going to BN in Sactown I would recommend both the Citrus Heights and Roseville locations over this one.
google avatar

Rayna D.

Yelp
I really believe that one of their employees were following me around the store (older yt lady). I don't know, maybe she thought I was going to slip a book under my wig. Who knows. I'm use to this type of treatment, so I just bought my books and left. Maybe i should have showed her that I'm an author and that i actually have a book that's published and being sold in their store. Thankfully the young lady working the register was nice. Definitely not my favorite B&N location.
google avatar

Alex L.

Yelp
I could be critical of B&N. Ironically, what I once criticized for being the behemoth bookseller is now the corporate symbol keeping bookstores alive, and for that I couldn't be more grateful. Walking the aisles of an actual, physical bookstore is a pastime that must never die. I came in recently, after a considerable absence, to look for Christmas gifts. I wasn't looking for anything in particular, which in my opinion is the best way to approach a bookstore. If you go in looking for one obscure title out of millions of books you'll likely be let down. Nevertheless, I was in the travel section and wondered about a couple titles they didn't have. A very nice employee led me to a neighboring section where those titles were hidden. I lucked out, and spent a good amount of time loitering the aisles and reading my way into new areas of discovery as a result. I can understand the overarching criticisms. "I can find something cheaper online." "The selection isn't there." "I can never find the book I want." All that may be true. But it's also true that there is a world of literary discovery that must be kept alive in storefronts like these so future readers can share and explore the wonders of reading.

Yelp
Wow I miss the Barnes in Natomas so bad. The cafe here is truly terrible always out of everything. The employees have THE WORST attitudes. i just used the restroom and it is disgusting. Clearly not getting cleaned often. Can we have the other location back? The next best one is Roseville but its so far to drive.
google avatar

Elena A.

Yelp
Such a privilege to have a full flushed bookstore! Cozy feel inside and they have a Starbucks inside. The books were nicely displayed and organized with their sales right towards the front. I could get lost for days in all their aisles.
google avatar

Tiffany B.

Yelp
Barnes & Nobles is keeping bookstores alive. This day in age, a lot of people are veering towards digital books & audiobooks. But I still prefer a physical copy. Even with that, one could probably get books for cheaper thru Amazon or other places. But I just love the feeling of going to a giant bookstore to look around for books to read. The store is well kept & maintained. It's organized & clean. The staff are helpful. I never have issues here. They require masks, but also provide masks to customers if they don't have it. I hope they can stay around for years to come.
google avatar

Joshua N.

Yelp
Barnes and Noble has a great selection of books and if you can't find it, they can probably hunt it down for you. Parking is relatively easy as they're in the Arden Fair Mall but be prepared to park further away during the holiday madness. The staff is hit and miss. Some are extraordinarily friendly and helpful while a few are rude and stuck up and not particularly helpful. I've gotten into collecting signed books the past couple of years and they carry a fair amount of signed books in store and online. They offer a membership program for $25 a year that offers good discounts on bestsellers. It's nearly always cheaper to buy online and pick up in store but sometimes you roll the dice and they're sold out if your item before they grab it. I'll definitely be back and hope to continue to find some great additions to my collection.
google avatar

Dina V.

Yelp
Had to kill time while waiting for some friends at Arden. Different set up from the other Barnes and Noble locations we've been to. It seemed a bit crowded to us. Nice thing was that there was lots of chairs to sit on. Ample parking in and around Arden Mall.
google avatar

Andrew S.

Yelp
I love bookstores. I was recently in here and it was so refreshing to see how one of their employees felt about books! At first I thought it was a super loud customer, but I look to discover that it was a staff member. He was ecstatic when discussing Sci-Fi books with the customers. Great location too. In case you have a long wait at a restaurant, you can come browse in here. There's always something to look at or buy.

Caroline D.

Yelp
i needed a bathroom. it was 25 minutes before closed. the bathrooms were locked. i talked to the manager. he told me he already locked the bathrooms? horrible.
google avatar

Moses H.

Yelp
I totally get that you don't price match - it's a store policy. Totally fine! Even though most other B&Ns do, and B&N online customer service tells me it's a chain-wide policy, OK, this one doesn't, whatever. BUT TO NOT PRICE MATCH YOUR OWN WEBSITE? SERIOUSLY? That's right. They would not honor prices on four different books - all of which were verified real prices, not misprints or anything like that - on THEIR OWN WEBSITE. And one of them was a pretty big difference. The staffer refused to let me talk to a manager. "I am the manager on duty," she said, while another employee snickered behind her back. Her namebadge said nothing about her being a manager, and I later saw another staffer telling her what to do, so this sudden elevation in title seems somewhat suspicious. This place is shady as heck. Still, I prefer even a shady chain bookstore like this one to Amazon just taking over everything :/
google avatar

Melissa S.

Yelp
We went in to talk to the Nook people. We talked to two different people and both were great. They explained the difference between each unit and the kindle. We walked away with so much understanding of the different devices. We loved that they give hands on customer service. I like the old school one that gives you the easy to read background of just back and white and no shine. That's the model we have now and we think we'll keep it. I love the selection of books in this store and that is why I don't visit often. Every time I come in I walk out with an arm load of books. This time I was able to escape with just one book as the other one was out of stock. I love reading. The back register near the food court had a huge line. We walked up front and there was no wait. That was perfect.
google avatar

Ron S.

Yelp
It's pouring rain and they have closed the rear entrance to the store and you don't know that until you are inside the mall. Absurd. Had to walk in an uncovered walkway around to get to the front. Picked out several items only to find out when I try to buy them that they have no bags. So I'm supposed to walk through the pouring rain with books in no bag. Dumped everything. Clearly they just don't care. I will shop where customers are valued.
google avatar

Leia S.

Yelp
Worst Barnes and Noble location in Sacramento. The customer service is terrible. I recently went to this location to find a book and apparently they don't carry books that are considered "controversial". The lady I spoke to was rude and her manager, some young inexperienced guy who didn't know why they didn't carry these books that were just released, was passive aggressive. I felt like they had biases based on the books I mentioned. He kept lecturing me about my mask falling down when I was talking to him, and another worker was walking around checking peoples faces for masks. I felt like I was in a doctors office. I did inform her that the restrictions were more relaxed at the crowded mall next door, and since there were only a few people in the entire store (probably about 4 or 5) maybe they should let people read and shop rather than confronting them as they were drinking their coffee. Also, there was a homeless person yelling outside at customers as they walked in. The employees did not seem to be bothered by this. I was sure they would consider me a Karen for complaining and did not feel it would do any good anyway, so I just left and chose a better location nearby in Roseville. I like to read books from all walks of life and differing opinions, even unpopular ones, and drink coffee while I shop.

Yelp
Wanted to come by and learn Russian and get the kit, but "no we don't sell it due to not liking Russia" what's it has to do with politics? It's language jesus. Japanese, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, German, and more, but no RUSSIAN.
google avatar

Yelp
I have a Nook that would not connect to WiFi- tried at home and at the B&N store per support webpage. Internet stated that there were Nook experts at the store. I asked the customer service desk for a Nook person. The young lady asked for a Nook pro over her radio. I waited. She called again. Waited some more. Called again. Manager person comes over and tells me that there isn't anyone there that can help. I asked if any other store had someone- she said that she'd check. (I thought that she should have offered this before I asked). By this time I'm way unhappy. I told her what the webpage indicated; she tells me that there aren't any listed hours or days when the Nook pros will be available. Excuses, not problem resolution. I'll list the rest on the next store I visited... This is why people shop online. This is why retail is dying. This is why I'll probably get a Kindle.

B L.

Yelp
How do they try to charge you $9.00 for a $5.00 book? Is it wrong to assume that just because it is a bookstore the cashier can read? Is it wrong to assume that the cashier can see the big sticker on the book that clearly states the price of the book is $5.00? And when you say wait that's supposed to be $5.00 they look at you like YOU'RE the one trying to pull one over? Like they didn't just watch you/see you pick up the book from $5.00 table and walk directly over to the register???

Yelp
I had to report a Barns and Noble employee to Customer Service for the second time in a year. A year ago I reported him to his manager for making inappropriate comments about the reading materials I expressed interest in. His comments were racial and personal. His manager insured me he would be spoken to. I mostly purchase hard copy books online, I bought a Kendal recently as well, but I just so happened to be passing Barns and Noble at Arden Fair. It was just my luck that the man whose behavior I had to report was the only Barns and Nobles associate available. He is about 6 foot 3, slender, White American male, about 45 years old or 50. This time he was sarcastic, rude, and abusive in the matter of minutes while he was showing me where to find the book I requested. I have no idea why he thought I would not report him to management again. I do not stand for abuse, and when an associate is abusive, I will speak with their manager immediately. The employee I am referring to kind of discriminates immediately. He just looks at you and decides you are a problem and treats you accordingly. It doesn't work, I am polite and I usually have very unsophisticated needs when I come to Barns and Noble, just help finding a book. He is not able to execute this type of task without sarcasm, and abusivenesss, I am going to management correct his behavior. He is also significantly taller than me, which made his attitude and disposition intimidating.

Yelp
Family and I come here at least once a month to reload on our books and toy needs. It's always calm and quiet, which is great. The staff is helpful and very knowledgeable. Love coming here!
