"Originally built as an Italianate villa, this off-the-beaten-path resort in the Blue Ridge Mountains now has a cluster of country cottages and is laid out to resemble an English country village, with ten acres of heirloom gardens. Cottages are beautifully and uniquely decorated, with claw-foot tubs and handpicked reproduction furnishings, and have porches with rocking chairs or swings. Rice House serves prime beef, fresh fish, and wild game in an 1854 farmhouse with bullet holes from the Civil War—the food is first-class, and it has a certain Barnsley flair to it. Activities include the awesome golf course, designed by Jim Fazio, and two 14-station clay shooting courses. Staff are fabulous and the environment lends itself to a true escape from the daily grind." - CNT Editors

Too expensive for the experience. Staff was friendly but with 20% gratuity included they had no incentive to go above and beyond. Food was average and needs to be much more elevated for the price. Elevator wasn’t working. We were given a handy-cap room. They couldn’t find our reservation. The fried chicken at Woodlands was not good. They forgot about our rose and deserved us dirty glass and then a dusty glass. There needs to be more food options and affordable activities. Needs a coffee shop. If you are going to spend $500 a night on a room, my expectations are much higher than the experience we received. It has potential but the staff needs to be more passionate.

We had an amazing time at the Barnsley Resort. The cottages are very spacious and homey! You have privacy, yet very close to all amenities. Loved the evening fire pits and complimentary s’mores. The food at Beer Garden and Woodlands Grill was excellent! We enjoyed hiking the grounds, touring the manor house and gardens and just relaxing!

What a fantastic resort! The Barnsley is a wonderful place to relax and unwind. The property is beautiful, fresh and clean. The staff was unbelievably nice and polite. Super nice and interesting Fazio design golf course. Great restaurants and food. Fun adventures such as skeet shooting and axe throwing. A surprisingly fun sport! Do not miss visiting the Mansion ruins and learn the history of the property.

Very nice resort and true to its 4 stars! Room was clean, atmosphere fun and vibrant, plenty of activities. The golf course was stunningly beautiful. Fun to end the night with s’mores by a fire. Service was great, very attentive and friendly. My only “complaint” is that the food options are limited- Woodlands Grill is the primary hub that serves food all day. The four of us agreed that the food wasn’t warm enough and didn’t feel like a good value. I ordered a $72 “prime ribeye” from Woodland to-go and it was not good at all. Dry, tough, I’ve had steaks for $25 that were as good and I’ve had other $70+ steaks that were miles better. Rice House, the upscale option, was closed during our stay. I’m a big foodie, so the whole food situation was a bit of a damper. But again, everything else was fantastic! I’d return. If better food, I’d give 5 stars when overall value considered.

Visited the resort this weekend on a day pass. The cost was $15 per person. The pass was supposed to give us access to the museum and farm but turned out to be totally unnecessary as no one asked for our receipt at any point. In fact I don’t think anyone else purchased one as we saw no one touring the grounds other than guests who don’t need a pass. However, for the fun we had it was worth it. We walked about three miles seeing the cottages, the inn, the gardens, the ruins and the farm. It is a beautiful place that has over 40 cottages in a village like setting along with a spa and inn. They were hosting a corporate event while we were there. You need to google the resort to see all the accommodations and activities as there are too many to list in this review. We found that every employee we met was friendly and helpful from the outpost to the inn to the golf cart driver to girl at the drink trailer in the town center. Definitely recommend this place. We look forward to an opportunity to stay for a couple of days…especially when the weather is cooler as it was 93 degrees when we were there.

We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary here and it was the perfect place to rest and reconnect as a couple. Staying in the cottage added to the unique experience and it was nice to arrive, park, and not have to get in the car until it was time to leave. Food was quality and there was plenty to do even on the rainy days. Thank you for an enjoyable experience!

Would have loved to booked a week here, some spa treatments… but they never responded regarding the intricacies that can arise when traveling with a cat and wanting to make sure it fits into the pet policy. It does appear extremely dog friendly.. but after a week of waiting for a response… I’ll not risk making a reservation, if a simple question derives such a lack of attention……..
