Recently got Pizza there, which was amazing better than in your place house around the area. must say the fried chicken is outstanding service was good. They made great drinks even cocktails were outstanding good atmosphere plenty of parking. Fast service great prices good specials overall experiences fantastic compared to a lot of places in the area.. the Peter guy was having fun and have cheese was very good. A little bit small for a medium, but did the trick would highly recommend this place for the food and takeout. Haven’t signed in there yet but plan to in the near future.

Google
I ordered medium for my NY strip steak, but it’s like medium-well close to well done.. The balsamic vinegar salad dressing wasn’t fresh. The drink didn’t surprise me either. There were too many flies in the restaurant that made the dinning experience poor. The plastic plates make the dish look cheap and unappetising.. The only good thing is affordable price, but I’d rather spend the money somewhere else. Overall: Overcooked steak, flies in the restaurant, boring and bland salad, cheap dinnerware

Google
Good/ decent American restaurant with affordable prices. Staff was nice, food tasted fresh and both their fries options (sweet potato and regular) tasted homemade.

I remember this place when I was a kid it was a Dairy Queen! We popped in today passing through town and we enjoyed our dinner friendly staff and good fresh food!

Google
Just happened to see the restaurant during a Sunday drive from Middleburg to Catskill and decided to give it a try. Very good place. Good vibe and great food. There were 3 of us and we had the fried chicken meal, cod sandwich meal and the BBQ on a hard roll meal. Oh… the sweet corn nugget which I had never heard of were very tasty! All in all the food was outstanding. Highly recommend Barnwood.

Google
Was driving through the Catskills and stopped here for a quick bite to eat. Food was delicious and service was great. I’ve been going here for years and they don’t disappoint!

Whenever my wife and I are anywhere near this place, we make sure that we work it into our schedule. The Roadhouse Wings are a must. They are smoked then they fry them. What a combo. You can get them dry or sauced. I recommend getting them dry so you can really taste the smoke flavor and then dip them in the sauce on the side. Fried Calamari was tender, a nice size portion and reasonably priced. No visit is complete without an order of the Fried Chicken. Incredible. The only negative is actually a positive. You don't know what sides they have because since they are all made fresh every day, they run out sometimes.

Google
Great home made food. Great accommodating staff we were traveling and they made us fresh coffee to go.

Yelp
After a Catskill high peak absolutely nothing hits the spot better. Great prices, friendly staff, a sunny natural wood dining area and well-cooked food. Not the fanciest place, but solid fair for hungry hikers. Hi top tables are available if you prefer not to sit in a booth.

Yelp
Come here a lot. It's a def great spot to grab a good meal. We usually choose here when we are headed home. Great friendly staff. Good choice of food Large portions and cold drinks help round it all up. Stop in and enjoy it.

Yelp
Stopped by at Barnwood restaurant for a quick bite in the Catskills, and it wasn't bad. The service was prompt and friendly. The calamari appetizer was good. And I had the fried chicken; it was one of the best fried chicken! Tender, juicy, and flavorful. BF had the pizza; although the flavor was good, the pizza was floppy and not crispy, quite disappointing to be honest. But other than that, it's a good family restaurant, and it was busy.

Yelp
Barnwood serves exceptional burgers and good fried chicken. Staff is attentive and prices are reasonable given the inflation jump in the past few years. Menu is limited in the vegetarian department.

Yelp
The Good: Barnwood is a fine restaurant. They seem to know how to fry things, and fry them well. It's also pretty kid friendly, with a lot of options that would work for children, and someone was nice enough to bring us coloring books and crayons. I had the namesake burger, which was solid and tasty, if overcooked (I never got asked how I wanted it, to be fair). Two folks at our table had fried chicken, and thoroughly enjoyed it. My kids had chicken tenders and fries (shocker there), and enjoyed them. And we also got a couple of salads (one special with fried shrimp), which were just fine. This place is spacious, brightly lit, and one of the most accessible and affordable menus in the area. It's a huge selection of food, and there's something for everyone here. The Bad: It's not as enjoyable to visit, because they are criminally understaffed. From the moment we arrived, the waitstaff was noticeably harried, and in the weeds. The hostess ran us to our table, threw menus down and ran away. Our waitress would disappear for long periods of time, and would be unable to get us simple things (like water, a drink, or a check) because she was just running around too much. To be clear, I don't blame the staff a bit, they were simply overwhelmed by the number of customers they had, and from what I've been told, that's pretty much a regular occurence. If only management would help their staff out and put a couple more people on the floor. The Ugly: We got charged for two extra glasses of wine on the check. Normally I would've said something, but (1) we couldn't wait to leave any longer and (2) the meal was still super affordable, so we just let it go.

Yelp
Great selection of food with generous portions. Service is always efficient. Their specials are great as well

Yelp
Barnwood has been our favorite place for years. The last two times have been so disappointing. The portions are noticeably smaller. Not worth driving from Kingston anymore! What a shame!

Yelp
Can't believe I haven't reviewed Barnwood yet! I've been eating here for years and I can't think of one bad dish in all that time. Pizza and wings are just what you want. Sandwiches are large, tasty, and well priced. Fried chicken...my favorite thing on the menu! Entrees, sides, BBQ, it's all great! Dining in is a country diner vibe, nothing fancy, but just a nice spot to go and enjoy a meal. It's usually pretty packed so don't anticipate intimate conversation, it can get loud in there! Love this place as a local and if you're headed to the mountains for the weekend this should be your number one meal stop on the way! Can't say enough good things!
google avatar

Lisa T.

Yelp
Went for dinner and enjoyed the menu options and service. It's a bit tight with seating if you're more than 4 as we were. With the entrees you get side choices which is cool. I enjoyed my burger and macaroni salad as they tasted homemade and had nice flavor. Salads were fresh and had varied dressing choices. They have pizza on the menu but the 2 in our group that ordered that didn't really like it. So I would recommend not getting that.

Yelp
After a day of antiquing, we were just looking for a place with good comfort food. Let's just say we found it! Portions are ridiculously large and the price is on the sweet spot! We settled on pasta dishes. Thought we might have a few garlic knots to tired us over until dinner was served. Well, we did not expect ten or 12 garlic knots with a large sauce that tasted homemade. WE knewthat if this was the size of the appetizer, we were not going to finish everything. I ordered spaghetti and meatballs. My husband and my bestie both got the mushroom ravioli in a vodka cream sauce. Omg!!! It was so good!! The meatballs were tender and spiced just right. The ravioli were heavenly. The service was fast and they were nice. They are ridiculously busy. However we did not have a long wait. Poor waitress was walking and talking fast. It was ok. I could see she had quite a few tables. But she was attentive and didn't forget a thing. We will definitely be back! Ps. Across the table, the gentleman had wings. Must have been two dozen on his plate. It looked so good. I will need to try that next!

Yelp
Food was disturbingly gross. All of the meat was so overcooked and/or reheated that it was jerky-like. The ribs and beans honestly tasted as if the meat might have spoiled a bit. I ended up sending my whole meal back and my husband was tempted to do the same with his quesadilla but we felt bad for the server who was a sweetheart. Sadly have to recommend you steer clear of Barnwood.

Yelp
Lovely dinner for two. We had enough food to bring home as leftovers. Drinks were fruity and light - can't remember the names of our cocktails. We got a lot of weird stares from the other customers. We're visitors from out of town. Service was great! Food was good but nothing special. Steak was surprisingly great. I liked my baked beans. Ribs were dry and I had to add a lot extra bbq sauce but I still enjoyed it. Food - 4/5 Service - 5/5 Ambiance - 3/5 Value - 5/5

Yelp
The pizza was delicious! The atmosphere, the waitresses, and the style of the restaurant was just what made it a perfect dive in restaurant for a quick bite. It reminded me of a cabin that you see in a Hallmark autumn love story.

Yelp
Anyone else plot their vacation a bit like this... "A" is the starting point (home), "C" is the destination and "B" is halfway between the two - the place you'll stop for a bite, stretch your legs, etc.? Google is great for giving you the exact distance/town in-between and Yelp will do the rest of the legwork. (Ideally this is for when you're driving somewhere... on a plane would be a logistical nightmare.) That's how we found Barnwood and I gotta say: it turned out to be a great precursor for our vaca. "Italian sandwich" - overlooking that it was served on a Kaiser roll (try that at one of the countless Italian delis in North Jersey where I live and you'll be excommunicated) - it was well-stacked, balanced and could hold its own with the likes of Jersey Mike's. Fried shrimp basket - definitely not healthy but did what it needed to. Fish 'n chips - a massive slab of fish (that was entirely too long for the plate) - the Mrs. dug it but was even more impressed with the side of baked beans that came with it. (Upstate New York sure does seem to love their baked beans and hunting knives, huh?!) I went out on a limb and tried their Meatloaf Sandwich (not something I'd ever get) and when it arrived I had second-thoughts (I won't lie). But one bite and... whoa. Yeah, I thought they skimped on the sautéed mushrooms but the actual slab of loaf? So damn tasty. A solid, varied menu. Plenty of interesting adult drinks and beers. Good pricing. Very cool staff. Two major dings against the joint: the "complimentary Wi-Fi" did not exist. (Yelpers unable to actually check-in is pure torture!) And the houseflies. Sheesh. It wasn't just one or two but a small regiment that really tested our patience... from dining to the bathroom.

Yelp
My husband and I go to Barnwood Restaurant often , we sit at the bar, because we like it there. The rest of the restaurant is very nice. Today we went I had a horseradish burger it was a special. It was delicious one of the best burgers I ever had. My husband had 4 pieces of fried chicken he really enjoys it, he has that often they also have drink specials and they have 26 beers on tap.. If you have never been there you should give them a try.

Yelp
My go to for steak when I'm in the area , always cooked perfectly with great flavor . Staff is very friendly and good prices
google avatar

Vern A.

Yelp
Pleasant surprise. Everything I ate there was well-prepared. Service was friendly and prompt. Atmosphere is relaxed, casual. In particular: salad not fancy but fresh and very good. I had a steak and it was properly made and a nice cut. I have long been dubious at ordering steak at less expensive places as it can be a fail, but this was prepared by someone who knew what they were doing. We found this a very comfortable place to have a good meal and I'd happily go back!

Yelp
This place has the best fried chicken in NY state hands down. The Big Bird sandwich special that they have occasionally is amazing. It is like their version of the "chicken sandwich" that Popeyes and KFC brag about, the Big Bird is better. But they do have a lot of other offerings that are great as well, the roadhouse wings are great, nice smoke flavor and grill marks. Great place for a meal either lunch or dinner, a favorite lunch spot of mine.

Yelp
Mediocre food, at best. Exceptionally rude service. Heaven forbid you ask them to read back your takeout order to you to make sure it's correct. Too many flies in there. Exceptionally loud.
google avatar

Melissa P.

Yelp
The employees were all friendly and the waitress was very helpful. The pricing is good and the food is okay. It's definitely more of that comfort food feel as they have all the classic American dishes. The place itself is comforting and they had good dessert options.

Yelp
While visiting the Getaway East cabins (5 minute drive away) , we seen this place close by. We decided to try it. Twice . We were not disappointed! A vast number of beers on draft caught my eye. And a fabulous array of choices at that . The price was great for beer flight and the beer is served at the epitome of a cold draft temperature. The meatloaf here is the one that hooks you. It's homemade taste and the gravy was exactly how it supposed to taste . Finally a meatloaf worthy of being compared to an authentic home cooked meal . I also had a nice steak for an excellent price . The fried chicken , double battered was scrumptious. The Barnyard marinate the chicken for basically half a day . You can hell by the fact the breast pice was plump and juicy. Amazing good , amazing price , amazing service . AAA all the way .

Yelp
Food was excellent! Calamari was cooked to perfection and the pizza was so good!!! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was that we were pretty much ignored once our food arrived, however, a bus full came in and our waiter had way too many tables...typical these days.

Yelp
We came here during our GetAway stay in the Catskills as the camp site for GetAway is not too far from here. I wasn't expecting too much because it was late at night when we went and near closing time. However, they were very nice and friendly and immediately sat us down. They didn't even rush us through dinner or dessert even though we were the last ones there. The food was good. They had a decent number of vegetarian options and it wasn't bland. We got their chocolate dessert and that was delicious! I was very impressed with the service and would definitely stop by if we end up camping in the area again.

Yelp
Good ribs, good salad, tasty wings. This place is a nice family friendly place. People rave about their fried chicken but that's not my jam. Casual dining with a bit of a loud atmosphere. Food is good but not amazing but no complaints. They do have an amazing beer list with some tasty local IPAs and other beverages. Place was jumping tonight and service was a bit scattered but it's the age of Covid so everyone gets a pass. Easy access from state highway with plenty of parking. Reasonable pricing. Note: this building was a Dairy Queen when I was growing up so I wanted a peanut buster parfait but left full anyway. Nostalgia note: the Felice Brothers immortalized this location in their song "Nowhere New York" with the lyric "I see signs for Route 23... I see falling down Dairy Queens"

Yelp
I have been here many of times. I have never had a bad and uninvited experience until today. The staff was rude about not having reservations and sitting near the bar with a 16 month old wear there is a dining area as well. The bartender was rude as well when she was asking what we wanted to drink as if she didn't have time or wanted to wait on us. There were no other people waiting at the bar. She rudely told my family they couldn't have the baby at the bar to go sit at the bench and wait.

Chad W.

Yelp
Great for fried chicken but literally everything else isn't good at all .. tonight had meatloaf with no flavor gravey tasted canned a baked potato that was burned and a piece of corn that seemed to be boiled for longer then most stocks .. skip this place

Guttersnipe H.

Yelp
Great food and service. The staff really hustles and the chefs prepare everything right. Lots of great regional draft beers on tap
google avatar

Yelp
Always read more than one review! I'm not a fried food person but I occasionally indulge.. If you can Imagine the cook with a hair net and a cigarette hanging out of their mouth and you like that kind of place then this is the place for you. If you're looking for anything other than quick kitchen slop then go elsewhere. Service was great. Place is pretty nice. Real country feel. Food needs to catch up to the rest. Even the coffee was as watery as tea. If you have nowhere else to go then try it.

Yelp
A very low key no frills barbecue and comfort foods restaurant pretty close to the area skiing and hiking. I've always noticed that the parking lot is packed, so it's a clearly popular eatery. Having visiting in person? I understand why. The menu is fairly extensive food is good to above average and prices are eminently reasonable. I had the 2 piece thought and drumstick fried chicken (brined for many many hours apparently platter which came with seasoned fries and side (I chose coleslaw). The seasoning was good, the coating was crispy, and the chicken was tender. All of this was around $7. I found this to be an amazing deal. Enjoyed my cold brown ale as well. Definitely a solid choice in the northern Catskills. Keep in mind they close relatively early (8pm) and plan accordingly.

Reagan W.

Yelp
I've never seen fruit flies this size before! In droves literally taking turns bombarding our beers at the bar. The bartender definitely saw us swatting them repeatedly with zero interest in rectifying the situation. God only knows what the kitchen flies look like... insert disgust The smoked wings weren't bad but over smoked & pretty dry. They do offer chilled glasses for those beer drinkers. Sadly we won't return. Hopefully the owners notice this review & the major fruit fly problem.

Yelp
Partner and I stopped here, which was only a few minutes off of 87...a perfect place to stop for a bite to eat. The fish fry came with a huge piece of cod and delicious fries that were crispy yet soft on the inside. We also shared a 4 piece fried chicken platter, which comes with 2 sides...got the cole slaw and mac salad. The service was fast despite it being busy during lunch. Will stop by there again!

Yelp
Really great, nice local place, good food and can deliver and take out. They are all really people and a family friendly environment.

David E.

Yelp
Best family restaurant at better prices. NEVER had a bad meal here. Favorite is haddock and fries. You get a REAL piece of fish! Service excellent!

James T.

Yelp
Very good food the burger was cooked perfect. My wife's black bean burger was excellent. But the bucket of onion rings stole the show. Can't beat it for the price. Service was excellent. Not much of atmosphere family friendly.
google avatar

Tami D.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, the waitresses are always friendly and the food is consistently good, plus the prices are very reasonable

Susanna O.

Yelp
Great service, great fried chicken. I ordered a martini from the bar and it was warm and a "half pour". I brought it to the bartender and she argued with me over the recipe for a martini. Why would she do that? I walked away. The manager was outstanding and made me a wonderful drink. Food, 4 stars, bartender, a zero. Sorry, not sorry .

Michael M.

Yelp
This cute little local favorite is nothing fancy, but I do love their fried chicken (and I think nothing fancy is the point). I dine in at the restaurant or (more often) order takeout for parties and large gatherings. It's an especially kid friendly place when you have out-of-town guests with children. The staff is always friendly, and the kitchen seems very efficient getting one's food served quickly.
google avatar

Will M.

Yelp
There are flies flying all over the place in this restaurant and they don't care about the problem. I will never go back to this place again.
google avatar

J S.

Yelp
I will never visit this place again. Upon entering the hostess said the wait for a table was 15 minutes even though there were open booths ready. Then she told my party to wait outside and come back while there was an open seats in the waiting area. So we left and went somewhere else. The next family after us went in and quickly exited moments later. Terrible service.
google avatar

Myra C.

Yelp
Stopped in while vacation in Catskill NY. It's very casual. All of the food came out piping hot. The FRIED CHICKEN is superb!!! Five stars on that alone- really the best fried chicken I've had in a long time.
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
If you're on an upstate getaway and in need of solid bar food, this place hits the spot. Portions are on point, pickup process is seamless, and the food is flavorful. The burger was cooked to perfection with generous toppings but still manageable to scarf down. The fries were underrated. The San Fran salad dressing was terrific. Can't go wrong with this place.
google avatar

JP H.

Yelp
FAST DELIVERY! Great burgers! Quesadillas are delicious! Have not eaten in the restaurant, but get delivery often!
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
What a bunch of snotty assholes. Waitress brought out part of four two glasses of water, leaving the kids screaming. Then when the kids asked if there were nuggets, she said no. Nuggets are on the menu 3 separate times. Don't waste your time.
google avatar

Marco S.

Yelp
Good food, decent service. Fairly priced. Will recommend and will return. It's exactly what I would expect of a place like this to be . Perfect fit for a country style bar grill. Family friendly...
google avatar

Kate K.

Yelp
This place has been renovated since the last time I was here and it's a bit more lounge feel versus barn feel. Brought the crew for the first time and they all loved the food and affordable prices. Only gripe was that the service was beyond friggin slow. To the point where I asked for a box as soon as we got our food bc we had to drive home. But other than that I still love barnwood

Tom S.

Yelp
Best fried chicken in the north. Service was excellent. Well worth the stop prices post covid good as well
google avatar

Yelp
On a busy Friday evening we decided to take 5 grandchildren ( all under 13) along with their Mom For dinner. Wonderful service food was really delicious... it's kinda off the beaten track, but easy enough to get to! Make the effort! Dinners ranged from Strip Steak Meals to 1 yes only 1 child's meal of grilled cheese sandwich / which was pretty dang good ( 4 yr old) I had Penne pasta with vodka sauce with Shrimp Pasta was cooked perfectly and vodka sauce light an flavorful! Shrimp were quite large, and delicious! 6 year old Loved his taco salad / couldn't finish it all but missed a great effort !!!
google avatar

Greg W.

Yelp
If you like beer seek no further they had two brown ales on tap! Say no more right? But you probably want to talk food too no? Let's start with the pecan smoked then deep fried Buffalo wings. I know I know not traditional but heck they are good. Especially when washed down with the third brown ale. I can only comment on what I have had. I am not a regular and I am not local. Let's start with the fried chicken. Dam that is good fried chicken and can people come here just for that? Yes! The pizza is ok. I would not make this a pizza destination like Néw Haven ct. the large pie is large and fairly priced. Might have been an off night the burger was not all that. I will try again when I'm the area.

Yelp
We needed a dinner break coming down the NYS Thruway. We found the Barnwood. They had a nice beer and cider list including one of my favorite, Awestruck. We started with the Greek salad which was refreshing. I had the ribs that were fall off the bone tender with a really tasty sauce. My husband got the fried chicken, tender, tasty and not greasy. We'll definitely stop on our next drive through the area.
