Barnyard Chicken Now Open in Park Circle | Eater Carolinas

"Chef Eric Hara’s brick chicken is the standout offering, but the menu is a deep dive into poultry with Korean-fried nuggets, bacon-wrapped chicken, wine-braised chicken, chicken sandwiches, wings, and other chicken-forward options. The kitchen aims to give diners many ways to explore chicken preparations, and the spot is open for both lunch and dinner." - Erin Perkins

Google
We stopped by Barnyard Chicken on Spruill Ave and were seriously impressed! The Chicken Parm subs were absolutely delicious—crispy chicken, flavorful sauce, and melted cheese on a perfectly toasted sub roll. The fries were hot, golden, and seasoned just right. We also grabbed a kids’ chicken nugget meal and our little one loved it—great portion and super tender bites. Everything was fresh, made to order, and served up fast. The staff was friendly and the place had a nice, laid-back vibe. Definitely a hidden gem in North Charleston. We’ll be back for sure!

One of the best fried checken and dipping chiecken sandwich I have ever had. The fried checken is very crispy, but the meat is still juicy. The sandwich has plentifull complex flavors. The garlic noodle is also very interesting. I never imaged that asian style fried noodle and Parmesan cheese can be combined together.

So I came into this restaurant for the first time yesterday and decided that I needed to come back today for lunch. Yesterday I tried the BFC chicken sandwich with a side of garlic noodles and the chicken fat fries. Today I had 1/2 brick chicken with the Peruvian sauce. The garlic noodles and fries were so good I ordered them again. The atmosphere was so chilled and laid back it was just a relaxing environment to enjoy a great meal. And for the price, you definitely get your money worth. I have found a new favorite place for lunch. I get a full belly and don't feel sluggish afterwards and I love that! If you are in the area, stop by, you will not be disappointed! And it is worth traveling to experience!

From the moment we walked in the door, we felt like we were at home. Jeff, our waiter, was incredible! He gave us some great recommendations and knew the menu and how each dish was made. My daughter devoured the BRC Nuggets, garlic noodles and fries! My favorite was the Chicken Milanese. I can’t get over how tender this chicken is. Wait, how could I forget their Caesar Salad! It’s served with fresh sourdough croutons that are simply perfect. If there’s a Caesar salad on the menu I have to have it and this one is easily in my top 5! We tried both desserts! I LOVED the Banana & Brioche Bread pudding and my daughter could not get enough of the Buttertart Pie with Oatmeal cookie crust! We love the location of this restaurant too! Perfect for a post Park Circle Playground visit with the whole family!

Google
What an amazing find! My dad wanted to go here for his birthday lunch as a family, and said he found this place during one of his foodie searches (lol). Our server was Sara, and she was so patient with us the entire time! The menu is pretty limited in options, & they had a chalkboard listing the specials/what they were out of at the moment (which we appreciated). We were recommended the garlic noodles, and every person on the family HAD to try it. Very delicious, reminds us of garlic toast! Kinda wished the portion for the sides were a little bigger for the price. But the whole experience was worth it.

Google
Everything we had was pretty food. The Korean chicken nuggets with kimchi sauce was AMAZING. My husband really liked the sticky wings. The garlic noodles were good but a little bit salty. We pretty much ordered everything that we wanted to try and we were not disappointed. We will definitely eat here again. I'm glad we finally tried this place.

Google
I was pleasantly surprised by the quaint atmosphere, super friendly service, and great food. All the tables offer a card game that encourages conversation and laughs. A wonderful lunch that was needed after a hard morning!

Google
This restaurant is now one of my top go-to spots for quality chicken dishes. Chicken, sides, and specials were absolutely fantastic. I cannot say how impressed we were with the taste and quality of food. The atmosphere is a blend of "homey" and rustic feel. It's a quiet space, super friendly and knowledgeable servers, and very cute decor. If you are in or around the Charleston area, I highly recommend you make a stop here. We will definitely be visiting again soon!

Yelp
I am so impressed with Barnyard Chicken. The food is EXCELLENT. As is the service. It is a cute small storefront in an older building. They play country/rock on the radio and each table has a deck of conversation cards. And the check comes inside the pages of an antique book. So the food. I had the Bacon Wrapped Chicken Breast with a side of Collard Greens and Rutabaga, and and order of toast with the tomato jam (that's not on the menu, but I really wanted to try the jam so they worked that out). The chicken was perfectly cooked and very tender and juicy. The bacon was crispy and paired well with the chicken. It has fontina cheese and herbs wrapped inside and on top although I only got a hint of the herbs (for my taste I would like a bit more herbal flavor, but I tend toward flavor explosions) but on the whole it was very pleasing. The collards and rutabagas reminded me of my grandmother's cooking. They had so much flavor and a nice texture (some might say overcooked but I don't like my greens or rutabagas to crunch). My favorite was the sourdough toast with the tomato jam. The toast was excellent and crunchy. But my favorite of all was the tomato jam. Normally that comes with the chicken liver toast (they didn't have the liver today, which is fine with me, I'm not a fan of liver). My grandmother used to make a tomato jam so I was curious to see how this one was. The tomato flavor came through very well, it was sweet and tangy and you could see the pieces of tomato that held its structure. I definitely recommend that and if they canned and sold this by the jar I would definitely buy this (it's not exactly like grandma's - that's a high bar to reach and hers had pieces of lemon and orange peel and cinnamon sticks). But I think this would make a nice addition to the menu as an appetizer (maybe with cream cheese). The service was amazing. I appreciated the willingness to let me try something that wasn't on the menu. They were very accommodating (above and beyond). I will definitely recommend and send friends here.

Yelp
Barnyard chicken is a to go place for chicken sandwich and chicken fingers. The crunchiness, flavors, and juiciness on their chicken were on point! We also ordered the collard greens but it was cooked with squash and garlic noodle were okay but the service was pretty good. The restaurant was clean and plenty of seating inside and out.

Yelp
Craving Southern comfort food? Look no further than Barnyard Chicken! Last month, a friend invited me to check out this hidden gem in Park Circle, and let me tell you--it did NOT disappoint! This cozy, rustic spot was the perfect setting for a relaxed Saturday evening, with friendly service and mouthwatering food that hit the spot. Here's what we indulged in: Sticky Wings - the perfect balance of sweet and savory Chicken Milanese - crispy, tender, and full of flavor Bacon-Wrapped Chicken - because everything's better with bacon! Garlic Noodles - a garlicky, buttery dream Collard Greens with Rutabaga - a soulful, hearty side Whipped Potatoes - creamy, smooth, and comforting And of course, we couldn't skip dessert! Banana Bread Pudding - warm, rich, and perfectly spiced Butter Tart Pie - sweet, gooey perfection We kept it light on drinks this time, but trust me, the food alone was an experience! If you're in the mood for Southern flavors done right, @barnyard.chicken is a must-visit. Who's coming with me next time?

Yelp
Food was fantastic, service was on point. Moroccon chicken was to die four. Garlic noodles were delicious

Yasmeen A.

Yelp
Food was delicious and the sauced were very good! The food preparation was quick and efficient! Packaged well except for the sticky wings. They were packed in a styrofoam container while very hot and melted the packaging. Some were inedible due to that. I haven't not been to the actual establishment but I've heard great things about dining in the restaurant. 1/2 chicken with the green sauce was my favorite part! Very delicious
google avatar

Matthew M.

Yelp
Amazing spot and highly recommend! BFC sandwich was delicious. Chicken was cooked perfectly, the sauce and the bun and the pickles were all excellent. I wish it was a little spicier but it was delicious nonetheless. The garlic noodles were also very tasty. Friendly staff with easy on-site ordering or take out online. Parking in the back. I wish I'd gotten the french fries, but I was full enough, next time. Definitely check this place out!

Yelp
Stopped on way to Columbia and needed a good place so using Yelp I found this gem, chicken was awesome and so was collard greens. Our server was awesome def a gem of a place

Yelp
I was a little confused when I walked into the restaurant as there's no hostess stand or any indication where you should go, just a bunch of tables and a couple waitstaff walking around helping customers. When a waitress saw me looking bewildered she said I could sit at either the end of a high top or wait for a booth, so I chose the high top. It is a very tiny interior. Not that it matters but just be aware I'm sure it fills up quick (I went on a weekday at 1, so it was probably the end of the rush). The menu offered some intriguing options but I went with the "BFC" sandwich: fried chicken thigh with kimchi mayo, pickles, and a potato bun. I asked for two sides and they were both potatoes (I'm a glutton), whipped potatoes and fries. In all honesty the sides were the best part. The whipped potatoes had tons of butter and cream, and were silky smooth. The fries were cooked in chicken fat and had a delicious taste and a good crisp on them. The chicken sandwich itself...surprisingly mid? Not much flavor to it. It was fried perfectly and the bun was exceptional, but the chicken itself lacked flavor (i mean it IS just chicken but I want spices) and the kimchi mayo was kinda flat. It was as if they used Codfathers (right next door) frier and batter but that's where the flavor stopped. Honestly this could have just been a one-off as I've heard good things about this place, and toy should give it a shot, but I am not sure I'd go here again. My bill with tip ended up being over $30 and it was just me with a soda, sandwich, and two sides. I'd recommend either going next door or trying out someplace else in Park Circle if I'm being completely honest.

Yelp
We had a fantastic dinner experience at Barnyard Chicken tonight. The offerings were impressive: they had all types of chicken dishes, the tastiest sides, and fabulous desserts! We started our dinner with the soy and garlic sticky chicken wings (WOW)! I spurlged and went with the (Special) Chicken n Waffles. We also got to try the BFC Chicken Sandwich; it was a lovely portion served with awesome kimchi mayo on a potato bun! You cannot eat at Barnyard and not order Fixins; they have a fantastic assortment of sides. You MUST get the garlic noodles, the super-tasty collards, the cheddar grits, and the baked beans! Ensure you also leave room for their dessert; the Banana & Brioche Bread Pudding and Buttertart Pie were so decadent and great for sharing. I wanted to mention that the staff was SO nice and helpful with the menu. They took very good care of us and were very attentive. If you're looking for an excellent local chicken spot in North Charleston, Barnyard is your spot!

Yelp
I am going to brutally honest. The restaurant itself is cute. The staff is very friendly and very attentive. The food has a lot to be desired. The Red Wine Braised chicken (a chicken thigh) with mushrooms was very dry. The sauce had very little taste. The mushrooms were good. The garlic noodles were tasty but nothing to write home about. To me the tastiest thing was the water. In my humble opinion the price are high. A piece of chicken for $14.00 and nothing else. Then if you want something other than an entree aka a piece of chicken then you have to pay another $6.00. For the 30.00 including tip I could have gotten a decent steak dinner. I believe in giving honest reviews. The menu is very small. Not a lot of choices. I don't think I would recommend this restaurant to my friends. Must better choices to eat and spend your hard earned money. I will give this restaurant 2 Stars only because of its staff. Sorry but you can do better Barnyard Chicken

Brad G.

Yelp
First time eating here. Looking for something different. Small place and not much to look at from the outside, but go on in side. Food was incredible, service was outstanding. Love finding non chain restaurants and supporting small businesses. Head to Barnyard Chicken and you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
I'm not a huge chicken fan, so knowing everything was chicken based, I was hesitant, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked every dish that was on the menu. The food Chef Eric Hara served up was egg-cellent! I don't think I would've ordered some of these based on their descriptions but I'm so glad I tried them without knowing because they were so good - even my kids would eat it! It's a laidback atmosphere with fun artwork to check out. There's also a patio area that's dog friendly. The service was great, and the waiter was attentive. There's street parking and a gravel parking lot in the back as well.
google avatar

Leslie J.

Yelp
Tried this place when it was fairly new before a work event in the area. My son had chicken nuggets and wasn't a huge fan, but I thought they were very good. I really enjoyed my salad. Service was friendly and great - very nice experience. My only issue was it seemed kind of overpriced as a whole. My meal for a salad with chicken (water to drink) plus my son's nugget plate was like $46. Wish it was more budget friendly and I'd probably go more, but overall service and food were great!
google avatar

Nuke N.

Yelp
I heard they fry the fries in chicken tallow. The waiter said beef tallow and rendered in chicken tallow. I don't know. I love garlic noodles these were cheap I didn't care for them in fact I threw them away. The fries were good the best thing I had. The chicken really didn't have any flavor. They did tried to season the batter with something bland and dull. Service was great. I want be back

Yelp
Ventured out and tried Barnyard Chicken off Park Circle. The restaurant is pretty small so not a lot of seating. There are a few tables outside so that is nice. As far as the food. I had the sticky wings and they were fabulous. They came out so nice and hot I had to let them cool off for a minute. The flavor is everything I needed it to be. I also tried the mustard greens with rutabaga. This is not something you find on a lot of menus so I had to try it. The flavor was exceptional. I just wish they weren't cooked down so much. They also had cute conversation cards on the table so you have something to do while you wait for your food. Better than everyone being on their phones. When they bring the check it's inside a little book. I thought that was a unique touch. I can't wait to go back and try more items
google avatar

Della L.

Yelp
Whole Visiting Charleston we decided to try dinner here and we were pleasantly surprised! Customer service was immaculate. We chose to sit outside and the seating was beautiful. We got the chicken, garlic noodles, turnips, saladand wings. Everything was a 10 out of 10 the only thing, that wasn't what we expected was the salad. It had a completely different dressing on it than what was advertised. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed it and we will definitely be back for more chicken. We will try a fried chicken sandwich next time!
google avatar

Ashby D.

Yelp
The service was amazing the food was off the chain I would 10 out 10 would come back and recommend it to the freind and it's super friendly with amazing ambiance

Shawn K.

Yelp
Got the chicken parm sandwich and fries for a lunch. Service was good. price was a little high (about $20) but i don't mind for a small local restaurant. Portions were great, it was a full sized sub and a whole bag of fries. Hate to say it but honestly the chicken was bland, sauce was bland, and fries weren't good. I think the fries were the biggest disappointment, they advertise they are fried in chicken fat but to me they taste like they are fried in cheap, overused oil. Had that "old grease" taste to them. I think they should focus on quality over quantity.
google avatar

Andrew J.

Yelp
Yes, the prices are high, yes that is a drawback. However, the portions were nice, service was friendly, and overall everything tasted good. Limited to beer and wine, small space but cute. I'd go back, but doubt I'd make it a regular stop.
google avatar

Scher S.

Yelp
Saw this and had to stop in because I love fried chicken! This was a nice surprise! I tried the Korean fried chicken nuggets which were delicious & real chicken off the bone and not some processed chicken meat product! I really appreciated that! I also got an order of the brick chicken which was the wild card for me but I loved it. Subtle but flavorful at the same time with a side of "jush" That what I'll call it but it was good and complimented the chicken really well. This is on my way home so I will definitely try more of their menu options.

Yelp
Barnyard Chicken in Park Circle just had their grand opening today, and wow, what a debut! This small, rustic spot oozes country charm, and their food is nothing short of phenomenal. They sold out of everything this morning, so we had to come back after they reopened at 5 PM--and it was well worth the wait! I tried the Korean Fried Chicken Nuggets with Kimchi Mayo, the Brick Chicken Dip Sando, a side of fries, and the garlic noodles. Everything was PHENOMENAL. The fried chicken nuggets were hand-battered to perfection, and the flavors were simply incredible. The fries were great, but the surprise star was the garlic noodles, which I wouldn't have ordered if it weren't for our incredibly friendly server, Sandy, who also happens to be the owner's wife! Her recommendation was spot-on--these noodles are like a garlicky twist on Chinese Lo Mein, and they were absolutely delicious. They sold out of everything again during dinner, and I can see why--this place is amazing. Barnyard Chicken also offers online ordering for takeout, and they have a convenient to-go window for easy pickups. I will definitely be back--10/10!!

Yelp
Incredible food!! The garlic noodles, bfc, wings, and bread pudding are a must order.
google avatar

Grace P.

Yelp
The garlic noodles changed my life. Order them!!! We also got an appetizer that I think was called "Korean Nuggets" or something like that....they were incredible! The brick chicken sandwich was also really filling and left us excited to come back. Definitely recommend! Great for takeout.
google avatar

Becca P.

Yelp
Learned about this spot through IG and drooled over the garlic noodles and they were just as amazing as I expected. Was not the biggest fan of the chicken sandwich. There was more batter than there was chicken, leaving the chicken with a slimy texture I couldn't choke down. Would maybe helpful to know it's beer battered and not just regular fried chicken. Definitely would like to try more menu items.
google avatar

Jim W.

Yelp
Small local business with nice casual ambiance. Our waitress was great and helped us with directions before we left. We had the bacon wrapped. Chicken bites and half a chicken with fries and grits. And a local IPA. Next door I believe. Worth the stop.

TJ M.

Yelp
Got the Brick Chicken Sando to go.... 18 minute drive home and she was STILL DELICIOUS!! Awesome sandwich combo + the local butter beans and ham were delectable. 10/10 recommend!!

Brad C.

Yelp
Service: Not only top-notch, everyone is so friendly and welcoming! Ambiance: simple, adorable, hilarious sexy chicken portraits on the wall! Food: oooooo baby. It speaks for itself. 3 Must Haves: BFC Chicken Sando Garlic Noodles (Large, duh) And finish it off with a slice of Milk Pie! No pics - we inhaled it too fast. Come try this place out (or don't; more for me!)

Yelp
First off let me start by saying the people that work here are super nice. My husband and I went tonight and we are huge foodies, and love trying new spots in town. We were so excited about this place, but sadly this missed the mark with us. I'm going to be honest with my review, but please go see for yourself and make your own judgment. I don't wish bad on any business. For the app we ordered Korean nuggets. These didn't have a lot of flavor and nothing seemed Korean about it. The kimchi sauce was ok, but I didn't taste any kimchi flavor in it. For mains my husband ordered the chicken sandwich with jus and it was lacking flavor. It was shredded chicken with a piece of cheese on top. And the dip didn't help sadly. I ordered the bacon wrapped breast and it was ok, but still not a lot of flavor, the mains were definitely missing something, but we couldn't put our finger on it. They both were not great but not horrible. I usually eat my left overs later and I didn't even want to touch it. But I ate my leftovers of the sides. Now to the sides!! NOODLES! These were great, if I'm in the mood for noodles I will go here and get those. Nothing fancy but really delicious! Next, we got the cream corn. This was really good, but it was missing salt or some sort of acidity. This would be great with some hot sauce! I would order this again. The ambiance is very small. And when we were eating the server was literally two to three feet behind me, it kinda felt weird and kinda hovering. I did love the dancer chick photos on the wall. Those were great! Like I said give it a go, and see for yourself. I don't wish any bad business on any, this just wasn't good for us. Charleston is a culinary mecca and this place might struggle here.
google avatar

Shania S.

Yelp
went here for a quick bite and got the sticky wings 12pc. the wings were smokin hot when they came out and soooo good, i'm still thinking about them. our server was also super sweet and they came out and gave every table some free homemade fries at one point too. would def recommend. laid back casual vibes.
google avatar

CJ G.

Yelp
The chicken was good but what really stood out was the garlic noodles! I didn't expect much from a side dish but we were amazed, the banana bread pudding was great too

Dee M.

Yelp
The service was great but the salad was disappointing. This is the Green Ceasar Salad and it is green. However, nothing was seasoned, not even the chicken nuggets and never mind that they gave me crouton dust. I paid $24.76 for this salad and it wasn't worth half that amount. I'm good on this place.
google avatar

Stephen S.

Yelp
Service was fantastic. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time and it was fresh. We ordered the chicken sandwich and garlic noodles. The fried chicken was bland, the kimchi mayo saved the sandwich. The garlic noodles were good and would order again.

Celeste B.

Yelp
This was some of the best country cookin'. Literally everything was delicious. We had a large party so got to try every side dish and dessert. The brick chicken and wings were so good. This is our new go-to place for lunch and dinner. Highly recommend this new restaurant. Service was excellent and so attentive. Our server was able to give a full description of each dish. I wish this app allowed us to give more than 5 stars.
google avatar

Lisa F.

Yelp
Food was mind blowing! And the service and atmosphere was perfect! And be sure to save some room for dessert!!!
google avatar

Leslie Rae A.

Yelp
our waitress was so kind and amazing in sharing the backstage of some of their food processes! I had the dip sando, creamed corn, and the sweet tea - as a southerner, it could've been sweeter *today*, but it tasted like GOOD tea under the sweet which is what I love the most. we will absolutely be adding Barnyard to our rotations
google avatar

Ryan H.

Yelp
Unique and pretty tasty. I got the chicken sandwich that works like a french dip with chicken with an order of fries. We also got the garlic noodles. Our service was fantastic with our waitress being very thorough on letting us know the story of the place works. The ambiance was also very cool. I thought the place was in Park Circle but it is next to CodFather which I think now has become part of PC even though not really there. The fries were good, the sandwich was good but really did not work well. Just a mess and not worth those issues. It fell apart as you dipped it. I think I ordered wrong. The garlic noodles were fantastic and have lots of flavor. I am going to go back and try again with either those sticky wings or something not such a mess that includes the brick chicken. Everyone should try this place and make their own decision. I suggest you skip the sandwich or just plan on using a knife and fork and plenty of napkins.

Sean T.

Yelp
Great, great spot, with a surprisingly diverse menu for A chicken spot. It's chicken prepped in a number of ways, served with interesting sides and great service. The brick chicken is deeply flavorful--not sure how they get that depth of flavor, but it's presumably a nice, lengthy brine? Just enough seating on a busy day--and outside spots, too, for good weather.

Elizabeth C.

Yelp
Barnyard chicken is brand new in park circle and already a staple for us! Great for kids and adults alike, everything we've had has been absolutely delicious and those chicken fat fries are dangerous (in the best way!) great for takeout or a chill dinner off the main strip, you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The brick chicken is so moist and flavorful, the kids loved the sticky wings and chicken tenders and we've also loved the chicken milanese and any specials are sure to be fire!! Would love to post some pics but we gobbled the food down before anyone could get a snap! Service was great and loved the indoor and outdoor dining options

Sharron B.

Yelp
Food is terribly bland. The only good thing we had was the garlic noodles and sweet tea. Don't waste your time or money. Too many other great places to eat!!

Cynthia S.

Yelp
First time dining at Barnyard Chicken. What a wonderful experience. The best chicken I've tasted by far. Ordered Moroccan sauce with it but it was delicious on its own. Loved the greens with bacon & rutabaga. So many delicious menu choices. It was hard to make a choice. Staff is super. Friendly & great describing the menu. Will come back earlier so don't miss out on the specials. Also, will save room for dessert. So happy to have such a great place in Old North Chas to get unique & delicious food. Most all of serve ware is compostable too.

Breezy S.

Yelp
We went here and sat outside and ordered just about everything off the menu and everything was out of this world. These might just be my favorite wet wings in all of Charleston! Everything from the sandwiches to the slaw salad and mashed potatoes were on point. The gravy's and even the French fries are amazing! The service was amazing and timely. And it was all around an amazing atmosphere. Thank you barnyard for some good eats! You definitely have fans!

Madra R.

Yelp
I have heard nothing but great things about this restaurant. They just opened a week or so ago and they did not disappoint. Service was great and the food was amazing! The server was on point and very attentive. The artwork was so cute. We had the 1/4 brick chicken, braised chicken, mashed potatoes, cream corn, and the amazing bread pudding. 10/10 experience for food and service. We will definitely be back soon. Great new addition to Park Circle! You guys rock!!!!!

Ryan W.

Yelp
Unique and very tasty offerings at a reasonable price. Service was perfect as well. I will definitely be back. You won't find food like this anywhere else in Charleston.
