Baroo’s LA Space Returns With Korean BBQ Rice Bowls and a Familiar Face | Eater LA

"Once an impossibly famous spot, Baroo is the former occupant of the Santa Monica Boulevard space where Matthew Kim largely ran the restaurant almost entirely alone when Kwang Uh returned to Korea to spend time at a monastery in 2016; Kim still works the same stove and dining room now as he did in those solo days." - Farley Elliott

Google
Great food! Great price! Great service! Had the Spicy Pork Bento Box, which was just spicy enough and very tasty. The teen kids had fish cake kimbap & spicy rice cakes. Everyone loved their food and the people were very friendly! Price for the 3 of us was less than $30 & I have enough Spicy pork leftover for a second meal!

Carla A.

Google
Delicious! The menu is not really big, but the few plates they have are great! The bowl was big, so I would recommend sharing with somebody. Everything was really tasty. I think the bowl had too much rice, so maybe other vegetables to fill out with less rice! I would definitely go back.

Google
My favorite gimbap place with flavorful and authentic taste all the time. Thank you agassi and omma here for being kind and warm to us all the time. I used to think that gimbap needs no skills until I tried this and compare it to others' sold at normal market place. I love this place it's my secret spot!

Google
Great Taste. We tried Rice cake, kimchi sushi and reserve sushi box. Fresh, tasty and flavorful. very nice owner, Warm helpful. Tiny place but great place.

Google
Loved everything about this place! Had the spicy pork bento, it came loaded with spicy pork, fresh rice, broccoli, & pickled radish. The Korean toast is also delicious. Spicy rice cakes were perfect and nice on a chilly night. They have a full fridge of Korean drinks, lots of fresh light options to choose from. All of the staff was super nice and the restaurant was very clean. Will definitely come back for another toast!

Google
I had this meal delivered so no interaction from the establishment, but the food that I ordered was delicious and well presented. Not much to go into but very good food (bulgogi kimbap and tuna kimbap. I would definitely recommend and will also be a return customer.

Google
I had the spam kimbap and it was so good. Very fresh you could tell it was made there. Very affordable too! Authentic and tasty!! Can't wait to try other flavors

Google
Pretty cool little stop'n'go place for lunch. Even the bento boxes didn't take them long to prepare and the food was on point. Loved the yubuchobap and definitely recommend it. Prices weren't so bad so make sure you try it!

Yelp
My go to kimbap spot in DFW! Amazing selection and flavors every time. My favorites are the classic spam or tuna! The staff is always so nice and the flavors are spot on. I wish I lived closer because I am always craving Baro Baro!

Yelp
I usually stop by this place when I'm in the area and am looking for something quick and light to munch on. The workers are usually friendly and accommodate my special requests. I love Kimbap, but I don't like it with eggs, so I usually ask them to make it without the eggs and they never give me any trouble when I ask them to make the rolls for me. There are rolls that they make and put out for quick and easy access, however, if you want a fresh roll they usually will make them fresh for you. I usually get the kimchi Kimbap, tuna Kimbap, fish cake Kimbap, spicy pork Kimbap and the fish cake soup. I like how the Kimbap here isn't overly stuffed with rice. Each roll has a generous amount of fillings and a small ring of rice to round out the roll. The flavors are pretty good and the rice always has the right texture. The interior is clean and the staff seem to take pride in the quality of their food and the cleanliness of their establishment.

Yelp
Best kimbaps ever! My favorite is the spicy squid kimbap. I had my friends and family try it and they all love it as well. The rice to filling ratio is perfect and the squid is just the right balance of spicy and sweet. There is limited seating inside but the place is always tidy and neat every time I go.

Yelp
The service is so nice and the owner is so friendly. They have so many different kimbap types and other Korean "snack" food items such as spicy rice cakes, ramen, and Korean street toast. Super casual place to eat lunch/dinner. I would recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely delicious kimbap! Super fresh ingredients, perfectly seasoned rice, and generous fillings. Friendly service and quick turnaround. My go-to spot for a healthy, satisfying bite. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Quick and fast service! It's more of a togo or grab and go spot, but they do have some seating inside and outside. It's a small shop but it's very clean and organized inside. It can get busy, but the line moves fast. I really like their tteokbokki spicy rice cake there. It tastes quite similar to the food snack stands in korea. Although sometimes their tteokbokki can be inconsistent because they add water into their big batch a few times during the day and if you end up getting it right after they add the water, it's a bit watery and doesn't taste as good. Their kimbab is pretty good, too. It's usually not warm if you get the ones sitting out, but you can ask them to make some fresh, esp if there isn't the type you want out. I like that they add a lot of filling to the kimbab and it looks uniform and pretty. It seems like a great place to go buy some and take to a picnic or do a quick lunch with friends or family!

Yelp
FOOD Fish Cake Spicy Rice Cake (Large) Spam Kimbap Tuna Kimbap Bulgogi Kimbap Spicy Dried Squid Kimbap The fish cake comes in a pair and is in hot water. I've never actually had fish cake in the water just like that but it was pretty good. The texture was nice, chewy and not too soft. The spicy rice cake was actually pretty spicy. Overtime the hotness builds which can definitely punch a kick. Overall the sauce is a mixture between thicker and runny which make it good for coating the rice and fish cakes. Rice cakes were soft and the fish cakes were also great texture. All the kimbap was really yummy. Some of them were fresh and the meat was still hot, but even if it wasn't it was good. The vegetables that they use (pickled radish, spinach, and carrot) all taste so good together. The egg is also well made. Overall just the flavors are so good together. Spam is definitely more of a guilty pleasure preference type of order. Tuna was better than I expected and not super fishy which was nice. I really liked the spicy dried squid and the bulgogi comes in a nice second. VIBES Pretty casual vibes. There are only a couple of tables and most of the people that come in grab to-go. I will also note that their boxes are pretty nice for grab and go so I was able to grab a box to-go before rushing to class. Great place to grab a quick bite and the prices are pretty fair so no complaints! Really enjoyed coming here to this little cute place! SERVICE The people who work here are really sweet. When I walked in, they could definitely tell that it was my first time coming so the staff walked me through the process. Basically you just grab any kimbap that you want and then you can order additional food. They will prepare it right there for you. They also replenish kimbap freshly as the day goes on.
google avatar

Mary T.

Yelp
Pretty good! Plenty of different kimbap to try. I wish they had a mix box though so you could try a piece of every different type! Only way I could try multiple in one setting is if I had several people with me to share. If I'm alone, one box would fill me up! Restroom needs an update though.

Yelp
Kimbap specialist place! If you are craving for some Korean Kimbap (which is like Korean sushi, but everything is cooked), this should definitely be one of your stops. They specialize in Kimbap and everything was reasonably price. The service was good and definitely felt like I was in Korea, along with the decorations. It adds to the ambience.

Yelp
CARROLTON, TX 75007 / KOREAN SNACK BAR / SAT 11-25-23 / DINNER +They offer many different menu options, ranging from Korean street food items to small bento boxes. -The kimbap rolls were ok. -The proteins on the stuffed tofu skin (yubuchobap) were pretty dry.
google avatar

Nicole E.

Yelp
Patio seating. Small place inside, a few tables and some counter seats too. Our usual go to Kimbap. Spicy fish cake, kimchi and tuna Kimbap. The spicy fish cake and the kimchi Kimbaps were both just okay. The tuna Kimbap was the better of all of the rolls, the tuna salad had a bit of flavor too. The Tteokbokki is okay, the rice cakes are a bit soft for me.
google avatar

Yelp
Baro Baro offers a delicious selection of Korean to-go food that feels healthier than some of the other options in the area. The kimbap boxes are around $6-7 and contain a generous portion (12 pieces each). My favorite, however, were the yubu chobap (tofu "skins" filled with rice and a topping), which gets you 4 generously-stuffed yubu pockets for $7. Finally, there are 3 sizes offered for the ddeokbokki (cooked with veggie and fish cake), and even the smallest size ($4) is a decent size for a hearty snack. Warning - it's pretty spicy! The folks working behind the counter were nice, the space has 3 small round tables and bar-style seating - not for huge groups. Would highly recommend as a quick bite or takeout overall!
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
Casual quick and easy peasy. They have a variation to satisfy the whole family. Everyone leaves with happy tummies. Their food is always fresh and the staff is so pleasant. When in Carrolton they are our quick go to when running errands for the day.

Yelp
Quick lunch in the Carrollton plaza! This place so good if your looking for something quick and inexpensive! My favorite thing to get here is the Yubuchobab which has Fried Tofu, Kimchi, Tuna, Marinated Beef & Pork!! Also, it's only 7 dollars and it's huge! The rose tteokbokki is great to share. It's creamy and comes with fish cakes

Xx G.

Yelp
Very cute and quaint. Such a good variation of Kimbap! I came here to try the Rose Tteokbokki, which was perfect!! I also tried the Spicy Squid Kimbap that was so fresh. Worth the drive. I will be back very soon!

Yelp
Just a quick review - I LOVE BBK. :D When I first discovered this place, I would make the trek from Richardson to Carrollton weekly bc I wanted some fish cake kimbap. Also their rose tteokkbeokki is LOVE (and I'm not even typically a fan of spicy food). Their kimbap is made fresh daily, and they also offer other made-to-order items. My fav is their fish cake (with kimchi being 2nd); husband loves their spicy pork one. They offer two types of tteokkbeokki - rose and regular. Rose is yummier to me, so I get that one, but both have fish cake, cabbage, and the occasional hotdog lol. Would def come back. Fav kimbap place!

Yen N.

Yelp
Good and fresh. We brought a lot of the rolls and also ordered sushi. Sushi is a good bang for your buck.
google avatar

David J.

Yelp
Very average to substandard food overall. Kimbap is not fresh, but rather pre-packaged (ironic considering the name of the restaurant). Tteokbokki is basic and underwhelming. The odeng soup was one of the worst I've ever tasted, just tasted like they boiled fish skin in water. Lady at the counter was also very unpleasant.
google avatar

Juli C.

Yelp
Everything from food to service to ambiance reminded me of being a student in Korea, walking home from school with my friends and getting afternoon snack. Food is excellent - highly recommend the tuna gimbap. The gimbap is well made - lots of fillings and large portions. The rice cake is also great - the rose one was an unexpected hit (not too spicy, not too creamy, just right). The fish cake is very juicy, and comes with soup that is warm and hearty. It's lightly seasoned without losing flavor. The service is also very kind - the lady at the counter was sweet, thoughtful, and patient.
google avatar

Kenya R.

Yelp
The kimbap is always good. I especially like the Kimchi and fish cake versions. It's a bright airy establishment with a few tables, and the employees are nice.
google avatar

Raymond C.

Yelp
Best value meal I've seen in a long time! I know Kimbap isn't usually the most expensive food but it's so well priced and I can see why they are always so busy! The Kimbap is honestly really good and I can tell they put their best into each roll! My favorite is by far the spicy pork Kimbap but you can't really go wrong with any. The shop is small but there is enough seating for a few groups (tables fit 4 each so probably not a big party). But it's really meant to be eaten takeout style. Service is awesome but they seemed understaffed when it's starts getting really busy. The lady taking our order was super nice and even came by to make sure we got everything.
google avatar

Sandra K.

Yelp
Kimbap made to order! Thank you so much! We were able to order bulgogi kimbaps with no eggs since my kids are allergic. We ordered: Bulgogi kimbap: loaded with goodies with little rice! Meat was well seasoned. The proportion of the whole roll was well done and presentation was beautiful. Tofu skin: we ordered a set of 4 with only bulgogi. Yum! Sweet flavor, with a seasoned rice and bulgogi. Enjoyed this. Fish cake: first time trying this. Fish cake was good. We weren't sure if you were suppose to drink the soup. We saw someone else did, so we tried it. Full of umami. Tastes like a wonton noodle soup.

Yelp
Located across the plaza from H-Mart! Interior is quite small, just 3 tables and some barstools along the walls/windows. When you walk in, there are packages kimbap along the front counter with a variety of fillings reading from veggies, spicy fish cakes, bulgolgi, anchovies, etc. the price ranges from $4.50 - $7.00 per container. Super affordable in my opinion! These are the perfect on the go snacks or grab two and make it a meal! They also offer other items such a ramen, poke bowls, and rice cakes! I personally did not try these items, but I'll definitely come back next time with a bigger appetite! The spicy fish cake kimbap was sooo yummy! It was also j the lower end of cost ($4.50). You literally cannot beat that anywhere. It was super fresh, great flavor and texture. Lastly, the service was awesome! The girl at the register was so helpful in answering all my questions & it was a quick transaction. Definitely check this place out if you're in the area!
google avatar

Yelp
Large selection of kimbab. You can order ahead of time or just pick from the line up. Good quality at reasonable prices. Will be back soon.
google avatar

Yelp
After trying out a good amount of items, here is my opinion: Spam and squid kimbap are my go to and are always delicious. Kimchi kimbap is a hit or miss because it can be super salty. Egg kimbap can be too dry. Sandwich is yummy but can be too oily - THOUGH I recommend this one more than the ones sold at k-dog. I wouldn't recommend the bibimbap-like bowls, better buy it elsewhere. Musubi and tteokbokki are delicious. Service is always friendly and quick. If you get the boss man to check you out, you know it's a good day. Same with the young lady with glasses. Fantastic people. Overall, please check this place out at least once!

Yelp
As I walked in I was greeted by the workers there. They were all so kind and sweet. I got the spicy pork and squid Kimbap. They were soooooo flavorful and delicious! My fiancé got the sashimi bento and he said it was decent. He did agree that the kimbaps were the best ones we tried so far around here. The place is casual and there's a water station and silverware on the side. I definitely recommend you guys give these nice people a visit and taste the food they have to offer.

Yelp
Found this gem after getting my hair done at the salon down the street. This is a cozy mom & pop Kimbap shop. They have their kimbap packed in go-to containers along the counter. I picked up the fish cake Kimbap and the spam Kimbap and ordered fish cake soup. Everything was so delicious and surprisingly filled me up.I will have to try their spicy rice cake next time! The establishment is very clean and friendly. It was nice seeing their beautiful wall art with a bible verse wonderfully painted, and listening to the Christian music . Definitely felt like the Korean/Kimbap version of Chick fil a. The decor was very nice too and the tables were very well kept and clean. I have already recommended this to my friends and they have enjoyed it here too.
google avatar

Melanie T.

Yelp
If you're looking for a variety of kimbap, this is the place to go. There are several options. I got the tuna kimbap and tteokbokki. This was enough food to be a meal or share between people as a snack. When you first enter, it feels very family operated so food made with mom's touch and care. There are seats where you can eat at the place but because everything is already packed in a container, you can pick the food and then bring it to go. Kimbap is a great option for long road trips as well.
google avatar

Neema S.

Yelp
Was craving kimbap and picked the perfect place to satisfy my craving! When you walk in, they have an assortment of kimbap prepackaged to pick from, along with a full menu to order from including noodles and ramen. I opted for the vegetarian kimbap and my fiancé got the bulgogi. Both extremely reasonably priced around $5.50 each. The staff was friendly and there was an outdoor sitting area in the parking lot, perfect for us to eat with our dog. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Jeff K.

Yelp
wow, i'm surprised i don't have a review for this place. Typically when we come to Carrollton, we try to stop here to bring kimbap home. We typically get a few kimbaps (Spicy Pork, fish cake, bulgogi) and i always get the spicy rice cakes. if you dip the kimbap into the spicy rice cake sauce, it tastes like heaven. on cold days, you can get the fish cake snack that they serve in a cup with warm broth. they also have a small seating area outside, which is nice. they also have a water machine inside. lastly, they have a online website, if you want to order ahead and pick up. However, service is fairly quick if you get the snacks... the kimbap is already premade, so you can just go into the store and pick it up.
google avatar

Winnie C.

Yelp
Cute mom and pop kimbap shop with Korean street eats. Love this place so much! Affordable prices. Be careful though because they're not kidding with the spice Kimbap ranges from $4.5-6.5. Pretty good deal and really everything I've tried has been tasty. My favorite is the bulgolgi. Also have some slushy drinks I haven't tried yet。
google avatar

Phyllis C.

Yelp
Great for dine-in or takeout! It's a smaller place on the corner of a building part of the little K-Town square, by Yoon BBQ. Baro Baro is clean, friendly, and affordable! They have plenty kimbap options as well as some other dishes on the menu. This place will definitely become one of my frequent go-tos. I ordered the Bulgogi Kimbap and Korean Toast for takeout. I got there 20 min after the notification that the order was ready, but it was still warm when I picked it up. The kimbap was perfectly seasoned and had plenty of meat, it was 50% beef and 50% the other fillings. It also held up as next-day leftovers. The toast sandwich did not disappoint either! While simpler, it really hit the spot and is now one of my all-time favorite breakfast sandwiches. I was surprised that with it sitting there for a bit with all the sauce, it wasn't soggy at all. Based on this high quality, I don't think you could go wrong with anything on the menu!

Donita O.

Yelp
This is my go-to kimbop spot. Every single roll tastes absolutely delicious and the customer service is top tier. Regarding seating, there is very little seating. It's more of a grab and go place.

Ling L.

Yelp
Food was fresh. Reasonable amount of options. Friendly staff and on weekend, it was pretty busy in there.
google avatar

Lara C.

Yelp
Very good and convenient for a pocket friendly savory meal. Lots of good options for both kids and adults - my favorite is the tuna and spicy pork kimbap. The fish cake and spicy rice cakes tteok boki is really tasty - loved the broth and the texture of rice cakes/ sauce. If you're craving Korean street food this is great - try dipping your kimbap in the tteokboki!
google avatar

Yelp
GET THE TUNA GIMBAP!!!! This spot has so many selections of gimbap, but my favorite has to be their tuna gimbap. I was skeptical at first but dang they proved me wrong. Pair your gimbap with the fish cake soup and dukbokki for the full experience. The girl at the register was so nice. The gimbaps were made and ready to go so you don't have to wait. It's a small shop. They have a few tables inside and a cute patio outside.

Yelp
I absolutely love Baro Baro Kimbap! I first heard of this place online and my first visit there got me immediately addicted! They have a wide variety of Kimbap, along with other options, such as spicy rice cake! My favorite flavors at the moment are the bulgogi and the spicy squid, but I have yet to try all they offer so Im sure they are all good! The service was wonderful and fast. The shop owner s/ Workers were constantly restocking the kimbap and almost all the flavors were available. The shop is small, but they have lots of seating and even offer free hot and cold water! I am a big fan of Baro Baro Kimbap and definitely recommend this place!
google avatar

Jenny W.

Yelp
Jumbo sized kimbap, reasonably priced and quality ingredients! Really good tteoboki as well. Got the medium spicy rose one and I was sweating. Got it delivered so can't speak to service but food was packaged well and was fresh and hot!
google avatar

Victoria R.

Yelp
They have a variety of gran and go Kimbap at the front. Very convenient if you need a quick bite to eat for lunch!!!

Yelp
Baro Baro Kimbap has quickly became a local favorite among many Koreans for their kimbap. Because this place gets busy, their kimbaps are made fresh even by the hour. They have a decent array of options of kimbaps, and most of them are already made and in display in neatly packaged containers to be grabbed. If you prefer it to be made fresh in front of your eyes or you don't see a pre-made kimbap of your choice, you can always ask the staff. Unique kimbap choice that they offer is the egg bomb kimbap, which is kimbap without rice and instead has lots of eggs, spinach, pickled radish, and carrots. Good choice for low-carb. My favorite item out of all things is their spicy rice cake. Their rice cake is spicier than most, and has deep rich flavor that is not too sweet. It is the flavor that is most reminiscent of spicy rice cake in Korea. It's the most tasty spicy rice cake I've had in the states for sure. Highly recommend you order them and dip your kimbap in it. I'm not a big kimbap person, but one thing that would make me come back more often is if they added more modern flavor options to their kimbap such as cheese kimbap!
google avatar

Yelp
I ordered online for pickup and it was ready when I got there. I wanted to try a variety and for the most part, i loved all of them, some were just too strong for me personally. * spicy anchovy kimbap: flavorful and I loved it but it was too fishy for me to eat more than 3. The spice was spot on, it helped the fishiness a little. But I do suggest trying it if you like anchovies * bulgogi kimbap: tasty but very basic so this is good for beginners or someone who doesn't like spice * spicy pork kimbap: my favorite kimbap! Is like spicy pork bulgogi in a refreshing roll *Yubuchobab: these were my FAVORITE! It's like a fried tofu boat with filled with rice and the toppings. It comes with 4 different toppings: kimchi, tuna, beef, pork. And surprisingly I loved all of them, even the tuna which I didn't even want to try.
google avatar

Natalie P.

Yelp
Simple and delicious kimbap spot in the busy H-mart plaza. There is a variety of fresh ready-to-eat kimbap flavors that you could choose from but also a small selection of hot kitchen items that you could order too! The staff/owner were all friendly and although the small storefront is catered more towards grab & go, there are some sea†s available to enjoy your food there as well.
google avatar

Ingrid I.

Yelp
The food here is amazing. My favorites are the bulgogi kimbap and the spicy pork kimbap. The flavors are rich and authentic. I've come here multiple times, and the service has always been exceptional and fast. If you want something quick to grab and eat, I totally recommend this place. It's also a good place to dine in, though it is small. Despite its size, it's well-kept and clean. The cozy atmosphere and friendly staff make it a pleasant spot for a quick meal.

Linda B.

Yelp
This hidden place is a gem! Their food is so good and fresh! It's one of our go to places for kimbap!

Yelp
Best tasting tteokbokki so far in dfw :) Not too spicy, not too sweet, just perfection!!!

Yelp
Fresh and so delicious ! Generous portion size! I will be back! Excellent customer service !

Yelp
I was a little nervous to try this place due to almost everything on the menu having eggs and knowing that I sometimes have a weird texture thing with them that unfairly hurts my opinion of a dish. I'm really glad I pushed through that mental block because this place is really great! Baro Baro Kimbap had a small supply of their menu items ready to grab on the counter but happily took my custom order to hold the eggs and make me a fresh order in under 5 minutes. The staff was super friendly and accommodating which made me regret putting off trying this place for so long. I ordered the Bulgogi Kimbap without eggs ($7) and the tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes $4) and it like an absolutely massive amount of food for under $15 with tip. The kimbap itself is 12 pieces and likely enough for a meal itself or to share as a snack. The tteokbokki was maybe slightly spicier than I'm used to but very good as well. All of the ingredients felt fresh and high quality and left me really satisfied with my meal. Fast, tasty, and good value. It's hard to beat a triple threat like that. I'd highly recommend people to try Baro Baro Kimbap if they are kimbap lovers or people just curious to try it due to the recent viral Trader Joe's kimbap craze.
