The Florida Key’s 14 Best Restaurants - Eater Miami

"This cozy, family friendly restaurant filled with art and decor from local artists is a favorite among locals and Keys regulars. For more than a decade the restaurant has been a reliable destination for seafood like shrimp scampi, sweet and spicy snapper, and scallops large enough to share, plus entrees like seared duck and cooked-just-right racks of lamb. Unlike most Keys restaurants, reservations are strongly encouraged but take out options are also available." - Mary Jo Almeida Shore, Olee Fowler

Google
Absolutely love this place. The tomato soup is flavorful with chunks of fresh tomato. The generous size bowl is enough for two. There are so many flavor packed appetizers. The yellow curry brussel sprouts could easily be shared with 3-4 people. My husband went for a meal and I opted for the Thai chili shrimp appetizer bursting with freshness and flavors. A big plus was not being rushed so that we could enjoy a bottle of wine along with our meal. Can’t wait to return.

Google
Avoid this overpriced tourist trap. Awful service, took over an hour for our food to arrive. The shrimp in the scampi tasted old and rubbery and I got food poisoning from the few I did eat 🤢

Google
I can't believe it's taken so long try this place. WoW..! The food, service and white table dining were excellent. The Yellow Tail Snapper is a must try. Tell them you want the mashed potatoes with it :)

Dustin Walker

Google
Took around 15 minutes to be greeted for drink orders. Took an additional 20 minutes to get silverware for our appetizer. Took one hour and twenty minutes from arrival to receive entrees. Shrimp comes out of the freezer. At a $37 price point this is unacceptable. Staff were inattentive and food was okay to good.

Google
My sweetie and I came in for dinner, and were very happy with our experience. The steak and seafood entrees were very tempting, but we opted to get a handful of appetizers to share. The yellow curry Brussel sprouts were great. We also enjoyed the cranny tomato soup, warm brie, and spicy calamari and shrimp. The wine and beer list had plenty to choose from. We were also given a basket of warm bread and butter. The atmosphere was very clean and comfortable, and the walls displayed a good collection of barracuda themed artwork. There is a covered outdoor dining area too. We'll be back!

Google
Very clean! Major plus quaint little place. People were friendly. Really had low expectations from the road and high expectations after walking in. Neither were correct. Prices were higher than expected and well described by menu. Presentation of food was really nice. I got the rib-eye which was a real letdown! My sone got shrimp fettuccine and my wife had a bowl of tomato soup and pork potstickers. She loved her soup and potstickers and my son said his plate was mediocre at best. Not quite sure how I missed the picture of the ribeye.

Google
Been here a couple of times now and I’ll start with the good. The Shrimp Scampi is probably the best I’ve ever had. Full of flavor, brimming with plenty of garlic and a touch of tomato sauce that creates a nicely balanced scampi. They load it with shrimp and serve it on perfectly prepared Al Dente linguine. The Jumbo Scallops and Pesto Pasta is also very good with a rich nuttiness that is full of garlic and textures that make it stand out amongst Pesto’s I’ve tasted. The dish comes with 4 monster scallops that are pan seared to perfection. The kids cheeseburger is quite large and absolutely delicious, prepared medium and very well portioned with homemade fries that look like chubby corkscrews. Now for the bad - the 14oz Ribeye was not very good. For $37 I expected the steak to be of better quality. The meat was not tender. It tasted like it had been frozen and possibly a little freezer burned. So this is definitely a place that is worth checking out, but I would stick to the seafood dishes which they have a few options to select from and their menu seems to change periodically which is great for variety. The service is good, complete with white linens and candlelight that gives it a nice ambiance. They don’t take reservations so Olán accordingly as they can get busy on popular nights.

Google
Food was good not great. Service was slow. Had to ask for water 3 times. In my own opionion the prices are very high. My son had spaghetti with meat balls. $25.00 i had grouper $37.00 Ok food at very high prices.

Yelp
Absolutely great food and service! Decor was cool to see with wall full of variations of art of barracudas. A lot of food for the money too! Cannot beat this place and I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Very good, but not outstanding food served in large quantities. Great value in comparison to other sit down restaurants on Marathon. The fish here is better than anything I get back at home. But, after a week of eating yellowtail snapper at different places, I found this dinner credible and not the best. If I came here first, I may have given a fifth star. In the other hand, there was so much snapper that I couldn't finish it. Ship the shrimp shumai appetizer. Never had deep fried shumai before. And the dinner is so big, you don't need the appetizer.
google avatar

Giga S.

Yelp
Only beer and wine? No problem! The best appetizer was the escargot and mushrooms- I never expected it to be prepared that way- outstanding! The seafood pasta with vodka sauce was perfection. Just keep asking for warm, succulent bread and dip away!

Celia C.

Yelp
What an Awesome experience. Our server was Yani and she was fantastic. Sweet, funny, attentive and had great recommendations. We tried all of the fish dishes. They were fresh, cooked well and paired with fresh, crisp veggies. It's a small local spot with family owned vibes. The edamame was also delicious! Definitely going back. Check out this local staple that's been around over 30 years!
google avatar

Cara T.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious. Went here twice while in Marathon FL for a week. Had fish both times and the fish was cooked perfectly. Garlic mashed potatoes were great and the side veggies were good. Go for the food as the ambiance and understand you are not going for the ambiance, though the did have cloth tablecloth, covered in paper.

Thomas B.

Yelp
Very nice return visit. For apps Had the fish spread and it was excellent as were the potstickers! Entrees were lamb chops for me and short rib for my wife, both exceeded expectations. Our server was very nice and efficient. We had a memorable anniversary dinner. We both had leftovers which were great again.

Yelp
A quiet little gem. If you seek a quality experience all round, you seek Barricuda Grill. Service is solid, & a nice menu as well.

Tom G.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. Our dinner was well prepared and presented. The menu is not huge but the quality is high. Prices were reasonable. We found good gluten-free options. The interior was pleasant for conversation, and there is outdoor seating as well. It is right on US 1. Friendly and helpful servers too.

Dean B.

Yelp
The food was good. The service was ok. The problem was an about 3 year old little girl that talked the whole time in a high shrill voice. She seemed to belong to one of the cooks that came out and played with her and unfortunately he was louder than she was. Very annoying when you are at a white tablecloth restaurant.

Yelp

What a tasty food .i can't recommend this Barracuda restaurant enough.I had ribs and hubby had Surf and turf .I can truly say this was the best portions we had in 6 months ...both yummy and for the ribs I didnt even need a knife ,oh so tender . Stake in the surf and turf was medium rear and absolutely brilliant and my 2 years old loved the lobster. We ordered kids spaghetti with meatballs ,so tasty . All the Staff was friendly .Received Exceptional service by Yani.keep it up guys .Great place!

Yelp
Best pesto we've had in years! Huge piece of grouper and veggies were cooked perfectly. Got there right after 6 and they were packed. Got the last table. They don't answer their phone so no reservations. Delicious meal!

Beau R.

Yelp
(20M) Downloaded this app just for the review.. Appetizers were okay. Service wasn't great but woman was very nice. But way too expensive for what it is, dinner plates were not good. Duck was dry and crust on top was barely cut-able. Steamed Vegetables completely unseasoned. Spaghetti and meatballs were bland, their special with seafood pasta was okay though. Nothing special. Music was all over the place and was decorated pretty uninviting despite the outside seating. Free bread is always nice, but I wouldn't waste your time here, no wonder nobody was here. Online the menu and reviews are great! Maybe this was a bad night or this is just a lunch place but it's got some serious work to do. I want to leave 1 star but at least the food was edible and waitress was kind. Very sorry!!

Jeroen S.

Yelp
Great food great service . I was reading some of the reviews about the food being expensive or not good , not accurate! This is a gem, waitress was a sweetheart (Yoni) and the food was excellent. Nice a relaxed place, can highly recommend.

Yelp
Food wasnt very good....weird sauce...calamari was like rubber...think it was way over priced for what it was....probably won't return....

David P.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, not crazy which we liked. Waitress was spot on, courteous, funny, and had several tables. Had the scallops and salad here which were amazing. Also had the snapper which was cooked perfectly, and flavorful. Service and food were prompt. Ambience was quiet, reserved. Would recommend highly.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised! Been to Marathon a few times over years and always drove by this place. Always looked empty. Stopped in Labor Day night as they were one of the few open. There were a few people there. We sat outside. One of the specials was a 18oz cowboy steak..went for it. Little over cooked. Ordered medium. I suggest medium rare. But damn it was good. Wife had short ribs. Fall w apart delicious. Definitely a keeper and must try in the area. Don't let the outside fool you. Place is legit!
google avatar

Nilka G.

Yelp
By far the best restaurant in Marathon as far as top notch service and food ! I haven't experienced service like yani in my lifetime of dining . She knew exactly what we would love and picked the best dishes for us to enjoy ! We will be returning weekly to this GEM !!!!!!!!
google avatar

Brenna F.

Yelp
Love that they really cater to families. They have a drawing 'contest' for kids and they win a cup of ice cream for dessert. Yellowtail snapper was delicious. Huge portions. Seafood pasta with lobster tail, shrimp, and scallop was very tasty.

Marcia M.

Yelp
The food was amazing and decently priced. The service was excellent. I was in town for two days, ate lunch there one day and returned the next evening for dinner. We are fisher people from Alaska and self admitted seafood snobs. The fish we were served was very fresh and cooked with skill.
google avatar

Kevin S.

Yelp
good food , nice find we had an appetizer and the bowl of soup which was one of the better tomatoe soups i've had anywhere good main course as well

Yelp
Pleasant surprise. We stumbled upon this one. The menu was incredibly inventive and the food was fantastic. Unusual flavors. We loved it.

Yelp
WOW i have been coming to Marathon for 25 years and we are from Naples Fl! Hands down BEST food in Marathon!!! We started with the Fried Lobster- perfectly cooked- next Fried calamari and shrimp so delicious and NOT chewy yummy then we had the portobello, mushrooms, and escargot OMG melted in our mouth!! Desert was amazing- Flan, crème brûlée, best Keylime pie!!! Everything was BEYOND GOOD! Don't let the outside fool uou This place is the place to be

Debbie C.

Yelp
We were not impressed with this highly over priced restaurant. He ordered shrimp scampi with was lukewarm and tasted and smelled like sewer water. I ordered the yellowtail snapper which also was lukewarm- also cold mixed vegetables and mashed potatoes that were waay over mashed and reminded me of glue. We could only eat a few bites before we pd the $90 bill and just left. Never ever again.

Patricia O.

Yelp
Amazing food! We were so happy with our stop at this restaurant. It was the first time we had ever been here. From the moment we entered, we were greeted by the friendly hostess. Eli was our server and she went out of her way to make sure to answer all our questions and also make suggestions. We sat at a table in a quiet area and had just a wonderful time. The ambiance was just right. Our party of six felt very well taken care of and this is definitely a place we will be back to. We can't say enough about the food, service and fun we had.
google avatar

Brenda W.

Yelp
Amazing food and service! Had the lobster bites and shrimp dumplings to start and ordered their pork shank (feel off the bone) tender and delicious! Others ordered the Mahi-Mahi, Grouper, and the seafood pasta. Absolutely the best meal we had all week!!! Try their homemade desserts flan or cream brûlée. Fabulous ending to a great

Anita D.

Yelp
Friendly service and great food. Mahi mahi wrap was very fresh. Husband had lobster sandwich. There was plenty of lobster and it came with homemade, spiral steak fries. I'm picky when it comes to eating seafood. If it seems even a bit off I won't eat. This seafood was all fresh and good.
google avatar

Mike C.

Yelp
Had a wonderful meal !!! Will return !! The best meal we had in the keys in a long time!!

Dan V.

Yelp
A lovely experience overall! We stumbled across the Barracuda looking for a nice dinner place before going to marathon community theater. Wow..we got lucky for sure. Laid back atmosphere...great food and drinks. We had the fried lobster bites and side salad for apps. The small filet and mahi for entrees. Best dinner place on marathon!
google avatar

Bruce B.

Yelp
A little pricey on appetizers 2022 but was pretty tasty food you can see the menu i have posted we had baby filet that was tasty and tender you will find service and food is good

William F.

Yelp
Stopped by because our first choice place was closed on New Years Day. I had the Shrimp scampi that was very tasty and large quantity with plenty of shrimp. My fiancé had the special, seafood pasta with lobster, shrimp and scallops, the sauce was phenomenal. More than we could eat. They also had a scallop with pesto that we want to try and will go back for. Like most places here, very rustic and you know that you are near the water. Not much to look at but the food was fantastic.
google avatar

Andy D.

Yelp
Great price! Great food! We've been in Marathon for 3 days and this place finally "hit the "spot ." Their twisty fries are something different and very good.
google avatar

Rick B.

Yelp
Easy stop on the Hwy to Key West; our lunch was relaxed and good! We enjoyed the excellent Seafood Quesadillas with a daily special of Raspberry Salad (fresh greens) with Blackened Hogfish. Both choices were tasty, and the Seafood Quesadilla could've been paired with Shrimp Tacos for a tapas-style cornucopia of seafood for two! They have good wine and Sangria offerings, but the Sweet Teas were spot-on for our TX taste-buds! Lunch for two was $35 plus tip, not bad for seafood on a tourist highway.
google avatar

Danny M.

Yelp
Food was pretty good! My wife got the Baby Steak and raved on how it melted in her mouth. My daughter in law got the Yellowtail Snapper and it was so much she couldn't finish it all. There were two huge filets on the plate. My son got the Rockhind Grouper and said it was good but he felt it lacked a little in the seasoning department. I had the Curried Brussel Sprouts, the tallow sauce was a bit sweet but definitely had the aroma and taste of Indian Curry. I added salt and pepper and a dollop of their butter and I felt it really changed the flavor for the better! The mashed potatoes everyone enjoyed! The steamed vegetables were under seasoned but then we like a lot of spice and seasoning so we're probably biased. I wish we took pictures but I forgot! Go though the food is well worth it!
google avatar

Jeff R.

Yelp
The Grilled Grouper is the best white fish I have ever eaten. Prepared to perfection. Pam grilled with a butter sauce. The Thai curry shrimp for a starter that was spicy and Devine. Better than any Thai restaurant and a very generous amount of shrimp. The size of an entree Topped the meal off with Key Lime Pie! Just the best in the keys. Bravo!!
google avatar

Jeremy S.

Yelp
A gem in a touristy area with a lot of mediocre restaurants. Fresh seafood here. Owner operator that clearly knew his patrons personally. It was like watching a family reunion all evening as more people piled in. Food was very good.
google avatar

Julia S.

Yelp
Amazing in every way. Loved it. Julia's Tomato Soup and the Baby Steak with Lobster were so delicious. Salad was fresh. Bread pudding was to die for. Yum!

Yelp
We visited Barracuda Grill during our vacation to the Keys. We decided to go at the last minute and luckily there was not a terrible wait. They took us in about 20-30 minutes. The food was delicious! I ordered the yellowtail and loved it. Extremely fresh. The service was good, not outstanding. I thought the prices were very high for the place and that's why I gave 4 stars instead of 5.
google avatar

Javier C.

Yelp
We had the tiny steak - 5 oz filet mignon and two sides. It was delicious and larger than we expecting. Having said that, this place is a bit pricey given there's not a ton of ambiance.
google avatar

Monika S.

Yelp
Not nearly as good as they charged. We don't mind paying top dollar for a nice meal out, but this wasn't it. My husband and I pulled in for an 8pm-ish dinner. There were plenty of open tables. Others arriving later ordered before us. The menu seemed limited/expensive for what was offered. We spent $65 on spaghetti and meatballs (he said it was good), and "shrimp scampi" that had tomato SAUCE mixed in (the menu gave the impression that perhaps there were *some* diced tomatoes). Never seen tom sauce in ANY scampi recipe. I basically had linguini w tom sauce and plenty of garlic, topped with (agreeably) plenty of shrimp. Canned Parmesan cheese came with the dishes to sprinkle as desired. Side salads with the meal were standard (I think mine had smushed tomatoes in it, but his Caesar was ok). We got 3 small rolls with our salads and were never offered more when our meal came. The server was polite, when she stopped by (we were right by the door to the kitchen). The wine was as expected ($10 for a glass of sauv blanc, again, not asked if I wanted another), and my husband had water. Overall, the food was edible, but my dish was NOT worth $31. His was a bit pricey ($19) for what he got. Skipped the dessert. Wish we had chosen better for our last night in town.

Yelp
Sometimes I wonder about the reviews I read or worse yet what standards of comparisons other reviewers have on Yelp when offering their reviews. I had stopped going to this restaurant's several years ago because of the non-socialable customer service, pricey food and mediocre food preparation. After observing changes in the ratings recently I decided to give it another try with friends from out of town. Boy what an embarrassment. For appetizers we had the tuna tetaki and warm brie. Given the prices we thought there would be enough to share. The tetaki was barely enough for an appetizer for one person. The Brie was not warm at all and to add insult to injury we had to ask for it a 2nd time because they forgot to bring it out. Once at the table it was not worth the wait or the 2nd request. I had read about the tomato soup and ordered it. It was good and recommended. For main entree's, we had the scallops over pesto pasta. The pesto pasta was good, but the scallops didn't seem fresh and didn't have a great taste. Also ordered the duck which really tasted like chicken thigh and drumsticks. The shrimp scampi was really good. No one liked the mahi entree, lacked taste all around. For a place where every plate we ordered was over $30 you expect culinary wow. The nail on the coffin was really the wait staff, no interest on interacting with the customer, no attention to detail and could care less about the experience. They brought the bill without event asking how our meal was. You be the judge.

Yelp
We give this restaurant 10 stars. Too bad Yelp! Aroma of sautéed garlic -the scents of a great Italian restaurant as we entered. So you just know that you are in for a great meal. The food, service, and atmosphere are what I look for. This is top notch in all of my criteria. Our waitress Mallory was so personable, efficient, helpful. The post pandemic service issues have miraculously passed this fine establishment! All around great service from here! Appetizers: we had the edamame & white truffle oil. Devoured! Spot on!!The escargot & portobello in THAT CREAM SAUCE! Why did you not give us bread to dunk into that scrumptious sauce?! So so good! The salad and dressing (ranch & Caesar). So tasty. But HOLY TASTEBUDS- those SWEET DROP PEPPERS?! Where have they been my whole life?! Now entrees. The beef short ribs were delicious. The yellowtail snapper was so so tasty. Now, my entree of the key lime grouper. Should be illegal!! Off the charts ~~~~WOW!! We were all so full! Yet the amazing server Ms Mallory mentioned how she loves key lime pie & how good theirs is. Somehow she convinced us! Well. Of course my husband had to have it to go! While he did allow me a bite, I have to say that it was epic pie! BRAVO TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT!! Now every other meal we enjoy during our keys vacation will be ranked by this one....

Yelp
Great spot as you're headed to Key West. So good we came back for dinner - nyc style shrimp was pretty banging. Fresh fish and they don't overkill on the seasoning

Evan M.

Yelp
My Google Review, reposted: Is there a microwave in their kitchen? Maybe a better question; how many microwaves are in their kitchen? They might have a few half-working, because the food was half-warm. I believe they thought that chewing the vegetables before microwaving them was a good idea, but it didn't pan out. (I wish I took a picture of their "sautéed" vegetables). If the owner had a gun to his head, he couldn't tell me what sautéed means. A personal note to the owner: Having good reviews means that lots of people don't have taste, it doesn't mean your food is mostly good. Furthermore, the food isn't even mostly bad, it's all bad. The owner recommends McDonald's if you don't like their food. I highly recommend McDonald's because the culinary skill and service far exceeds this "restaurant." I considered calling in a bomb threat so I didn't have to pay.

Yelp
What an incredible mixture of flavors.. when down in the keys you know very much what you are going to get... at Barracuda the taste of these dishes were an explosion of flavors.. totally recommend and would go back. Also the pace is very nice and the waiters were very professional and best table manners.
google avatar

Ysela H.

Yelp
ALWAYS have amazing food and fantastic service! One of our faves in Marathon, and we will be back soon.
google avatar

Ashley R.

Yelp
This place is a joke! We ordered take out and the food is absolute trash! 60$ for a plain cheeseburger with no condiments, lettuce, tomato, onion...nothing! They didn't include my salad that came with my 20$ spaghetti (which is actually linguini) and frozen meatballs they reheated from a bag! The brownie Sunday looks like it came out of a frozen TV dinner from 1950! So disappointing! Eat somewhere else if you want a decent meal because this place sucks!!!!!! My mind is blown that it has 4 stars... Yelp usually is on point, but this time it completely missed the mark!
google avatar

Scott S.

Yelp
So I am super picky when it comes to service normally but in the keys you have to expect it to be a little more island time. Not here our server Robinson was awesome. He was super attentive even while handling multiple tables. Great service in the keys is hard to fine! This restaurant is run the right way! Ok the food. We had the Tipsy olives! Amazing! The fish dip with the sweet pickles is strongly recommended ! Best I have had in a very long time. There were 4 of us and not one single complaint for taste, temp or portion size! Amazing Barracudas now our favorite restaurant in the marathon area! I had the 4 scallops over pesto linguine!! It's gone and it's so so good! Strongly recommend it!
google avatar

Yelp
It was getting a bit late and a couple of places turned us back despite still being open but closed their kitchens early. I get that, having owned a restaurant in a previous life, but turning business away is never a good thing. Popped into Barracuda Grill and even though they were winding down we were welcomed with enthusiasm. Had the special, ribeye and lobster tail, absolutely cooked to perfection and was delicious. The mashed potatoes were excellent. Took home leftovers and had 2 more meals. Steak and lobster tacos. My wife had the fish special and it too was delish. Made fish tacos from her leftovers. If the grand-baby would wake up we'll head there tonight. Otherwise it will be to go or tomorrow night. Definitely worth the time and money. Excellent service. Barracuda Grill is now at the top of our dining options when we're staying in our Marathon house.
google avatar

Tyler M.

Yelp
If you pull in and think you're at the wrong place or maybe you should pick another place, DON'T. If you come to Marathon, you have to eat here. Best Italian seafood I've ever eaten. Service was on point and food was amazing. Yani our server was killer. She basically picked our meal for us. Knew the menu forwards and backwards. Will be my first stop next time I'm in town.
google avatar

Yelp
Looks a hole in the wall and those are the best places!!! Fresh catch Yellowtail tacos with rice and beans, shrimp enchiladas delicious, Yellow sandwich with yummy steak fries, and lastly Raspberry walnut Salad!! Stop in YUMMY ..
