Oh, Barracuda. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I was always a fan of Barracuda, but their location in Algiers point is simply perfect. The large patio setup in this quiet neighborhood nook is prime for enjoying a nice day with a delicious taco and a pitcher of margarita (or two).
It's a little different than the Tchoup location as your entire experience is outdoor. You order from a window instead of inside (which I think is better for line flow) and they give you number and you can choose your preferred spot on their lovely garden like patio. They have an assortment of bistro style tables and benches to choose from depending on your preference or party size. Most seating options have an umbrella or are situated under a large tent so even on warm days it's not miserable. They also have fans with misters which is awesome, though I wish they were more strategically placed so that you could actually feel the mist, but still a big help. There's also usually some cool music playing which only adds to the chill ambiance. The restrooms are gender neutral and have A/C in them.
I typically always get a crispy fish and a pork taco, but on my most recent visit I opted for a chicken deluxe and a broccoli taco. Listen--I'm not usually one to go up for vegan dishes, but everything about that broccoli taco just works. I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would; even the blue corn tortilla tasted better than any other I've had. I also made my chicken taco deluxe (grilled cheese, beans, and guac) for the first time on this visit and it was banging. That taco was so heavy, I could barely finish it all. For sure worth it if you're looking for more of a meal than a light snack.
I especially love the drinks at Barracuda. They have one of my favorite margaritas in the city. I love how they incorporate local, fresh, seasonal fruit into their blends. The blood orange and watermelon are my favorites that I've tried. Not too sweet, refreshing, and just boozy enough. Also their mangonada is absolutely perfect for a hot day. I could wax poetic about this spot all day, but I'll wrap it up here. Wonderful addition to the Westbank scene for sure.
