Barrel 33 Review - Big Bear - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Barrel 33 is a wine and beer bar in the Village that looks like you're drinking cab sauv inside a literal barrel. It's also the place to go when you don't want to drink at a loud dive bar or need to kill some time before dinner perusing a carefully curated wine flight. The wine selection is long (the bartenders are real wine people and help you pick the right bottle), and the craft beer selection frequently rotates. There are also snacky things to eat, like flatbreads topped with prosciutto and giant Bavarian pretzels if you want to ditch dinner and keep drinking until 8pm. Yes, they close early for a bar." - Sylvio Martins

Absolutely obsessed—Barrel 33 is a must-visit! From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was relaxed but elevated—the perfect mix of cozy and cool. The service was friendly, fast, and genuinely welcoming. I ordered the Blueberry Lemon Drop Martini, and it was hands down one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had. Just the right balance of sweet and tart, and so refreshing. The Hangover Burger was everything you want in comfort food—juicy, flavorful, and stacked with all the good stuff. Total perfection. Barrel 33 knows how to do it right—amazing food, incredible drinks, and a vibe that makes you want to stay all night. I’ll absolutely be back!

Quite a nice place! The hot peppers were realllllllly good! We all liked our dishes. The service was super nice and he was very attentive. Definitely would come back for a laid-back dinner!

Great Find in the Warren area. Best Onion Rings, soft on inside and not too heavily battered. Chicken Philly was absolutely delicious!! I would recommend.

Google
Great food and great service. The seating is good, but not super comfortable. Can get pretty loud with live music.

Google
We love barrel! Cory S took such great care of us and made sure all of the staff were aware of my gluten intolerance. It is not easy eating out but this restaurant made it possible. Thank you for being so kind and caring. We will be back again!

Google
This was our first ever visit! Not a single person at our table had a complaint. The food was absolutely delicious, the service was awesome and the live music was incredible! If I could give more stars, I would. We will definitely be back!!!!

Google
Visited for the first time last night. The food was delicious, all served hot and fresh. There was live music that sounded great. Our waitress was on it with refills, and making sure we were taken care of. Very good experience, definitely will be back!

Google
First time visiting, so I can’t compare the old vs new ownership, but I definitely enjoyed myself. Mike and the other gentleman bartender made me feel welcome, both were super attentive and they crafted great cocktails. My food was pretty tasty and the vibe was nice inside. John the owner came out and introduced himself and made sure I was enjoying myself. Very nice guy. I live in Boardman, but will definitely be back soon!

Yelp
Great service delicious brunch. If you're looking for a great place for brunch this is your stop. They have a happy hour menu daily as well till 6. We will definitely return. Bottomless mimosa 8.99 for your first one and 1.95 for each additional mimosa.

Yelp
I forgot to get pictures. Dined in for brunch in Jan 2025. We both ordered the same thing, a Bloody Mary and an egg sandwhich and shared some cauliflower bites as an appetizer. Bloody Mary's were very vinegary? Service was poor from our server Carson. Didn't inform us of Bloody Mary bar build your own options until after we got the house one he recommended. But we were asking if anything came on the drink like celery or anything before and he never told us of the custom options, just seemed annoyed that we were asking about our choices. There was a whole form you could fill out to get anything you wanted including choosing a vodka. We ended up adding celery only because he wasn't telling us our options. We told him it tasted strong like pickle/vinegar and wanted to know the liquor or mix they used, couldn't give us an answer, and never gave us one. From the moment we sat down he made us feel like we were a bother to him, either he was having a real bad day or shouldn't work in customer service. Ended up getting our food to go because we didn't even want to be there anymore. Cauliflower bites were very sweet but good and got a decent portion. Egg sandwhichs were good but they were taken back home to eat so maybe would have been better fresh. I don't want to judge the whole place on that first experience but I'm not rushing back to give it another try either.

Yelp
The crispy chicken and mac & cheese are spectacular. Best mac & cheese ever. Their chili is out of this world life-changing. I can't get enough of either. I've had several things from here and love their food.

Yelp
Service at the bar is excellent. We got fire cracker Shrimp, peppers and oil with pita, the bourbon burger pulled pork nachos. All was excellent. Portion was sort of small portions with the peppers bit tasty. Nice relaxed atmosphere with the reopening and it's great. The drinks are made well. We will be back

Yelp
Had the happy hour nachos and Pilsner. Wish I'd taken it before I was done (sorry). Will definitely be back. the bartender, Breanna. She was very friendly & knowledgeable of her craft.

Yelp
My family and I have eaten BARREL33 as both dine in and takeout customers. We're NEVER disappointed. The food is fresh and flavorful, the options are vast, the portions are generous, the servers, bartenders and management are kind...and we 100% recommend you try this gem in Howland Twp. Ohio. I don't believe you'll be disappointed.

Howard L.

Yelp
Bartender straight up ignored me. Looked right at me and checked in? with his already served customers. A couple came in and sat by me and he goes and serves them first and walks away! How about a "I'll be right with you" ?? Better things to do in life than be ignored at a beer store.

Yelp
Wonderful place! Today we had the flatbread and the sweet honey cauliflower and it was fantastic! The owner served us personally; he welcomed us outside on this beautiful day with my little doggy on the porch. The beer selection is amazing. Great service and great food!! I highly recommend!

Yelp
We've given this local place in the Howland GE plaza several chances but each time we've gone it's been one let down after another. One time it was the food that was not right, then the wait service was long and not very attentive, and lastly when we spoke with Bryan, the owner, he did nothing to compensate us which was fine but his attitude was even worse. He seemed annoyed and just walked away. You would think honest feedback from your customers would be welcome to help better the place. We will not be returning. Sad coz it's a local place with a nice layout but after several visits and bad exps there is really nothing to return to. Sad but true.

Yelp
Took my son there last weekend and the food was very good but the service outstanding! Kendall was so sweet and charming. She made us both feel very welcomed and made some great suggestions.

Eric B.

Yelp
I've tried several times to like this place but can't get by an average rating. I never feel like they care whether I'm there or not. They clearly do not clear their beer tap lines when putting on a new keg so that's pot luck. Food is usually decent to good.

Matt F.

Yelp
Had heard good things about this place. Tried on Saturday April 30. Menu was small but good variety. Listed were a few specialty drinks. Asked staff what was in one of them and she didn't know. I get that everyone is not a bar tender but if they are pushing specialty drinks a a bar that sells food.. thought it would have been reviewed with the staff. Ordered a meatloaf dinner... completely raw. Not medium rare, raw inside. Sent it back paid for drinks and went to the Chop House

Kelly S.

Yelp
They do have nice wine and beer selection but gluten free options are sparse. They carried one seltzer but staff clueless on if it was gluten free. This place used to have good food and staff. Once Covid hit, both are now poor. The menu has changed and there is little gluten free. And don't ask the server! I asked if the bbq sauce was gluten free? Once he went back to kitchen to inquire, the answer was "there may be a little bit of gluten in it"!!

Yelp
This review is purely based on the food, and unfortunately the food was extremely bland and lacking flavor. Even the guacamole was watered down and plain. BUT The atmosphere: 5 stars The service: 5 stars The drink selection: 5 stars Cleanliness: 5 stars EVERYTHING other than our food was awesome. People I have asked about this place really enjoyed their food, so maybe we went on an off day. I'd definitely be open to going here again and giving it another shot.

Yelp
Was running late getting off work so I made a Grubhub order for dinner. I ordered 2 Mac n cheese topped with crab cakes. What a good decision the Mac and cheese was very good the crab cake was packed with crab. I ordered at 510 and the food was delivered via Grubhub by 545 very fast service. I think Barrel33 is a hidden gem right here in howland plaza. I definitely recommend this place. The price is a little high but so is the quality. They have the most extensive wine selection in the valley. LOVED IT

Yelp
Terrible service.. like wow.. you would think they were new or something.. granted it was seven fifteen when we got there.. on a Friday night .. still didn't look that busy ..ordered by 730@ the latest with an appetizer. ..................finally we got the appetizer at 8 at the same time as the damn food smh.. then I ordered a burger their only signature thing was bourbon barbecue and they put like a brush of the barbecue sauce on there and she dropped my bun on the floor, when she came back with a new one it wasn't even grilled/toasted like the bottom was & I've been a cook since 1993... The food was bland... And if it had been on bar rescue, that shit would've got shut down‍ knowing my experience I asked if there was only one cook back there? Thinking maybe that is what it was because they were understaffed, and the cook was overwhelmed... And she said no there's two, but we handed them eight orders at once!... Still, they are still clearly unexperienced because I could've done it with one other person as a wingman... But that still comes down to they need to control the wait and how often they ring in tickets and check on the kitchen... wow just a disaster of a place lol with nothing that stood out except for the fact that they sell bottles of wine... So maybe go there and find that and a snack but don't order dinner especially with kids because my son was waiting all that time begging for food and he's five smh.. so with an hours time, she may be came and checked on the table 2 or three times .. my step daughters ordered Shirley Temple's, which is basically sprite and cherry grenadine possibly strawberry? But the weird bartender took it upon himself to add orange juice and orange slices or some thing and they were like... No so I had to go up there and get those remade the normal way.... Like damn I ended up just getting a Togo box, so I can take it home and make it the right way lol ... Thank God I'm a cook

Yelp
I must say we are a little late to the game on this one and it is def our loss! We had the most wonderful birthday dinner for Rhyan at Barrel33 last night! For starters it impressed me that when we walked in they had reserved us a table even though I didn't technically make a reservation! I had called to see the wait time on a table for 4 and they told me they had several! So they held me one just Incase! That's totally cool! We were greeted so warmly and our waitress not only greeted us immediately but greeted us with water - a huge plus in my book! (It's little things for me. You used to always receive water when you sat down places these days not so much) so then we started looking at the menu and there are so many things to choose from!!! We ended up with three appetizers. Jason and Rhyan had been wanting a place to try a Scotch Egg so they were very happy to get to order one. I ordered the Brie with warm fig jam and Chara tried the deviled egg. I am so in love with the Brie and Fig Jam I am already wanting it again! I did not care for all the green garnish on the toast points but other than that it was perfect! Great flavor combination! Jason and Rhyan were just as happy with the scotch egg! They said. Was everything they had hoped it would be! The deviled eggs were the only item not a real big hit. But I think that's because the Scotch egg was such a big hit! For dinner I had the crab cakes (2), Rhyan had the Brown Sugar Bourbon Burger, Jason had a cheeseburger and Chara had a salad with fries. Everything was excellent!! My crab cakes were FULL of crab not just a bunch of fillers and the red pepper béchamel dipping sauce was the best accompaniment I have ever had for crab cakes. Chara loved her salad! It was fresh and beautiful. We loved the fact we could watch the college playoff game on tv but there was no sound so it wasn't loud and over powering - so we were able to hold a conversation and enjoy each other. We plan to keep this spot as a regular for our family for sure!

Yelp
Surprisingly good steak Barrel 33! All the food was good. Had to skip the drinks tonight bc I'm on emergency call. Hope to get a good Bloody Mary next visit

Yelp
Came back multiple times and I must say, new owner, new staff, better food and service! Drinks are strong and get you in the mood to eat. Their current menu despite being limited due to covid is still very delicious.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our lunch, especially the candied bacon and the bruschetta appetizers, however I would suggest thinner slices of bread for the bruschetta. The restaurant was struggling to keep up

Todd D.

Yelp
First, the layout of this place is weird. One door (if it's unlocked) opens directly into the middle of the restaurant area. The other door is to the wine shop half of the place, and you have to walk through that to get to the restaurant/bar. But whatever. The beer selection is good - a variety of craft beers on tap. The food I've had - burgers, sandwiches, etc. has been good. I mean it's fine. Nothing amazing. But the kitchen is only open certain hours, not all hours they are open - so check the website for those hours if you want food. Overall, it's fine.
google avatar

Scott M.

Yelp
File into the category of wine shop/restaurant. Barrel33 is a wonderful mid-day option offering small plates and tapas style dining. There are some great menu items here you won't find anywhere else. The menu is dappled with treasures that include various devlied eggs, the breakfast bread pudding-esque Strata, and Barrel33's very own Toffle - a sort of hash brown/waffle combination that is a savory delight on the tongue. Enjoy with a mimosa and/or a bellini to finish an excellent brunch date.

Yelp
My husband and I are new to town. We popped into barrell33. We're so glad we did. The food was delicious and full of flavor. The beer selection was great as well. The bartender (I don't remember his name) was very knowledgeable on the beer selection. Will be back! This area needs more places like this.

Yelp
Fantastic charming spot. Staff was friendly and I almost tried to take the puppy waiter home!!!! Excellent vegan options and non meat eaters alike. Will visit again next time I travel!

Yelp
I'm really glad we had the opportunity to stop here during our afternoon adventures. The food and service were exceptional. I couldn't have had a better lunch break. The shining stars of our meal with the loaded deviled eggs, and my beet salad. Amazing!!
google avatar

Yelp
When we pulled up, there was a big banner that said "Under New Management" - that made me nervous. My intuition was right. I usually like this place, but I'm giving it two stars for this particular visit. They way overbooked on Mother's Day, our reservation didn't matter, we had to sit around and wait, and then it took forever to get the food, and when we got it, half of it was cold. Also, our waitress did something that I really hate, she started complaining about not being scheduled for that day and coming in anyway, because she too is a mother. I'll probably go back, and maybe then I'll review it if the service has improved.
google avatar

Adam M.

Yelp
New owner = WAY better!!! The previous owner was literally the WORST. Always made us feel uncomfortable and awkward. Never remembered us even though we were there pretty often. Now, Brian, the new owner, is fantastic and the place is like night and day. Great beer selections and amazing cocktails. So happy that he's there!!
google avatar

Kitwanna B.

Yelp
This place has a great selection of beer and drinks. You can walk over and grab whatever you want of the shelf. However, you have to allow your waitress to open it, so they can charge you $1.50 corking fee, and that's for each beer you get. To avoid the fee, you can just get your beer to go, but that kinda defeats the purpose of dining in. The menu is massive. They hand you a clipboard with like 8 sheets of paper clipped to it. The papers are filled from front to back with words. I thought I was about to file my taxes or something. (Initial here, here and here, now sign here.) It was a bit overwhelming. I had to watch my wife swim in the sea of indecision for a long time. Part of the problem is they include their daily specials, regular food items and complete drink list. I would recommend that they create separate menus. The waitress had to give us a crash course on how to understand their menu. The cost of the food was pretty high. When they say small plate- believe them. They are super stingy with portions. The food is good, but not worth the cost. They are selling samples as an appetizers. Perhaps, they can get away this in Howland, but it wouldn't fly anywhere else. How about the staff? The staff was very warm and friendly. They greeting us as soon as we came in and the waitress constantly checked on is. No complaints here. Decent customer service. How about the atmosphere? They have a lovely set up. It matches the name of the business. They have wooden tables and a beautiful bar. (See pictures). Also, they had a live jazz band. It really set a good mood. Lastly, I would probably return, but it would be to buy my beer to go. The food isn't worth the cost. Either lower the cost or increase the serving size. Lastly, I enjoyed the fact that t

Yelp
Started going to the Barrell last year, loved the staff, location and food. But with new owner comes change and not all change is good. This past Friday my husband and I stopped in for a drink and dinner, we sat at the bar, after 15 minutes the bartender acknowledged us. She has busy trying to find a bottle a scotch that finally she and Brian determined they were out of. After ordering our wine, we got glasses, dirty.... ugggg Loved this place, Miss old staff that was prompt and friendly....please get some trainees bartenders and teach them to check their glasses and know their bar!!!
google avatar

James D.

Yelp
Nice wine selection with bottles that you won't find next door at Giant Eagle. There is new ownership (I had never been here during the old ownership), but the old owner was there too. The bar next door looks nice and all bottles have pricing for drinking there as well as taking home.
google avatar

Casey A.

Yelp
Unfortunately due to menu changes I no longer enjoy this dining experience. When I first discovered Barrel33 I loved going for the impossible burger, a vegan option that is so hard to find anywhere else in the area. The impossible burger mimicked the taste and consistently that I miss from a real burger. Recently the switch to the 'B' burger which more closely resembles a thin, cheap, frozen patty. The quality of product is lost and the taste doesn't come close to meeting satisfaction. I understand menu changes but I am very disappointed. It feels like they were interested in cutting costs over maintaining quality. Probably won't return as this was the only item I really went for.

Yelp
I am from Houston and we visit the area to see my husband's family. This is a little gem that keeps up with the big city life I am used to yet in a small hometown kind of way. I will be back.. likely often. This is the best of Warren... the food, drinks and service is great.

Yelp
The bistro is new. I've been coming here for great beer and wine for a while. The beer , wine, and now liquor are as awesome as ever but now the food joins the club. I had caprese salad - great, and the lobster and asparagus risotto. The prices , portions, service, and ambience were all excellent The cocktails and beer are top drawer and the servers are knowledgeable. The brunch is excellent, dinner menu good as well. Watching early NYE football while enjoying a late lunch. Servers a bit understaffed for the attendance- bustling and keeping people satisfied - orders flowing. Godfather sandwich is a treat, had bourbon barbecue Bloody Mary and a beer. Still one of my favorites

Yelp
This is my second visit to this wine/craft beer store & restaurant/bar. The bartender was very knowledgable about the craft beer that was on tap and I decided on a flight of IPA's. The menu consists primarily of small plates of which I ordered the Mediterranean Flatbread, it was served fresh, hot and very tasty, perfect for chasing away the hunger pangs brought on by drinking! An interesting fact is that the store stocks approximately 400 single beers in the cooler which are available for take-out or to drink at the bar. The prices are very reasonable and the bar service was top-notch. Overall, a very cozy atmosphere perfect for meeting friends, I would highly recommend a visit to anyone in the Warren, Ohio vicinity...cheers!

Emily B.

Yelp
Wonderful service, fantastic drinks, and great food!! More beer options than you would ever need. Enjoyed an old fashioned and an Aviation. Truffle fries, swordfish, greens, and burger were all great! Paul made our leisurely afternoon so worth it! Definitely will return.

Yelp
So disappointed, thought I would try brunch again. We were greeted with enthusiasm, given a glass of water and then...... nothing. Only maybe 3-4 tables of guests and yet we sat for 10 minutes. Decided to leave and the bartenders response was "oh, are you sure?" On our way to the car we watched our waitress come out of Subway with her lunch! The concept and the owner are great, just wish the staff was as interested

Kathy R.

Yelp
We had a great visit here today! Amanda was an awesome server, the beer was great and the food was wonderful. We had the baked Brie, beet salad and filet trio and ate every bite. The berry cider and crime brûlée stout were awesome!

Yelp
Update 2/3/18: I specifically wanted to come back to this yelp review to let everyone know that this place has new ownership effective 9 days ago! Music atmosphere was better, new owner is friendly and personable, brunch (food and cocktails) was great, service was a tad slow for a saturday but it seemed they were a bit understaffed for how busy they were. definitely going back and happy to do so now that old management is out of there! 7/16/16: Food is overpriced for the portion size and not always even good. The live music caters to an older crowd - it's never hip or exciting. However, I continued to frequent this joint because their cocktails (although pricy) are very good. Unfortunately, I had a recent incident with one of the owners of this establishment when he publicly belittled me for sitting at a table that was reserved although it wasn't labeled as such. The rudeness of the ownership has been part of ongoing discussions between my friends and I but I had never experienced it firsthand until this happened. It's unfortunate that this area can finally have a place that seems to be set up for success that houses a management staff that treats you like a peon as soon as you walk inside.

Yelp
First time here. I had The Godfather sandwich & my hubs had crab cakes. They were both really good. Waitress was pleasant with a good atmosphere. With lunch an iced tea & Bloody Mary our bill was $25. Large beer select along with their wines.

Yelp
The best beet salad in our area..always fast friendly service. I tried the hot peppers in oil appetizer too this time. It was fantastic. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Grayson A.

Yelp
They've done a good job at the decor in here, but the vibe is a little weird. Barrel33 is not really sure of what they're trying to be yet. Are they trying to be a Tapas restaurant? Then they need to have tables that actually work for sharing. Are they a neighborhood bar? It's just unfriendly enough that I don't think I could see myself becoming a regular. Pricing is strange for the area, as you don't get a lot of food for the money. But, the tap list is good for Warren. It's ok. I could probably do without the music as it makes it impossible to hold a conversation.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
We have been here three times and each time our experience improved. The first time we just popped in for a beer and the bartender who was starving for attention was using a wooden mallet to break ice. He thought he was a young Tom Cruise because he wanted everyone to know that he was the best "ice breaker" there. The second time we stopped in for more beer and some light food. The trash can behind the bar was overflowing. The bar back changed it and struggled with the container so much that he just grabbed the entire container. While it was gone, other staff members tossed trash in the spot where it was supposed to be! When he returned, he put the container on top of the trash.... My wife commented and just shrugged it off. The last time we were was much better. We stopped in for dinner. I had the beet salad (which was fantastic) and fish tacos. The tacos were great, although for the price, I expected three and only got two. My wife had the roasted pork dinner and she was happy. We will stop in again.
google avatar

Omar B.

Yelp
Beautiful building. Great layout inside. Lots of great wine choices. Pretty good selections of beers as a bottle shop. The issue with me was the service. I was given the tap list and ordered the #8which was an IPA from sibling brewery but was served the Hopping Frog Shandy that was $4 more. When I mentioned it. She just stated that they changed the #8 and did not offer to replace it for another IPA. Just not happy that nothing was done about it. Ordered the Scottish Eggs that were pretty good. Just do not think that I will be back.

Yelp
Was so pleased with the food that I ate there twice in one week. Had the crab cake Mac n cheese, fish tacos, scotch egg, and peppers and oil. Not a fan of the cane sugar soda they serve and my daughter was less than thrilled about her kids meal Mac and cheese (tasted very sharp, not the Kraft garbage that typical kids like) So I ended up eating hers as well. Not a huge beer fan, but if you're the pretentious craft beer snobby type, this is your jive...but you've probably already been there, done that.

Yelp
Great experience at Barrel33. I went here on a Saturday night when they had live music entertainment in their new bistro section, which is attached to their wine store. Our small group tried a few different items on their menu and were pleasantly surprised with the dishes. I had the Blackened Cod Tacos, that came in a pair, and were cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The wife had the Pulled Pork Toffle, which is like tater totes flattened together with pulled pork on top; which was filling and good but a little dry because of the excess potatoes compared to tasty pulled pork. We also had the side of grilled asparagus and flat bread entrées which were both great. Lastly, we tried the recommended Banrock Station Moscato that was pretty tasty. All in all, a great atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable staff, good small entrées, with a wide variety of wines and beers to tickle your fancy.

Yelp
HORRIBLE BARTENDING! It's a Friday night at 9:30 and it's empty, maybe 7 people. Wait 15 minutes to be greeted, and after we finish our first drink wait another 30 to ask if we need anything! Check pleas. No wonder it's empty!

Yelp
Great food and Jazz music. This was the second time we've gone to Barrel 33 when they've had Jazz and it was excellent. Both bands were great!! The food on both visits was excellent. The staff was very knowledgeable, helpful and attentive.

Heather K.

Yelp
We only visited this restaurant once and will never go back again. When we walked in, we had to ask where to go for dinner as you enter through the store. There was approximately 6 people there for dinner but the service was extremely slow. The food was very bland and not a good value for the price.
